Field notes
Most urban Hindi recordings switch into English several times a minute — for numbers, technical terms, and whole clauses. A system that forces the audio into one language either transliterates English into Devanagari or drops it. SozAI writes each fragment in its own script, in the order it was spoken, which is what makes the transcript searchable in both languages.
Devanagari stacks consonants into conjunct forms, and the inherent "a" vowel is written but not always pronounced — "kamal" is written with three vowel slots and spoken with two. Deciding where the schwa is deleted is a language-specific problem with no acoustic marker, and it is a common source of near-miss spellings.
In everyday speech the boundary between Hindi and Urdu is mostly vocabulary, not grammar, and the same sentence can be written in Devanagari or in the Perso-Arabic script. SozAI writes Hindi in Devanagari; if a recording leans heavily on Urdu vocabulary, expect the transcript to render it in Devanagari rather than switching scripts.
A large share of Hindi typing happens in Latin script, and some teams expect a transliterated transcript. SozAI produces Devanagari, which is the form that is searchable, quotable and correct in a document; converting to Roman afterwards is lossy and no standard spelling exists for it.
