Browser or phone: use the one at hand

The app records in your pocket. The browser does the work that is awkward on a small screen.

On a phone

The phone is the best place to record a lecture or a conversation in the room. Some jobs are slow there.

  • Calls in other apps cannot be recorded by a phone app
  • Dragging in many files from a computer takes extra steps
  • Transcript and notes share one small screen
  • Typing and searching are slower than on a keyboard

In the browser

A large screen and a keyboard make long recordings, many files and review sessions quicker.

  • Record a call from a browser tab, with or without your microphone
  • Add files by dragging them into the window
  • Read the text and the notes side by side
  • Search and review with shortcuts

What you can do in the web version

Five jobs that are easier on a computer.

Record a call from the next tab

In the recorder you choose a source: Microphone, Tab audio or Both. For a call that runs in the browser, such as Google Meet, Zoom or Teams on the web, pick Tab audio, select the tab with the call and tick the option to share its sound. The browser also offers the picture, but SozAI stops the video at once and keeps only the sound. With Both, your microphone and the tab are mixed into one recording.

Tab audio works in Chrome and Edge on Windows and Mac. In Safari and Firefox the source is switched off with a hint, and you can record from the microphone. Before you start you see how many minutes you have left, and the recording stops on its own when they run out, or after three hours.

Tell the other participants that you are recording, and check the rules of your meeting.

Upload files and links

Drop one or several audio or video files anywhere in the window. For each file you can set the recording type, and the page shows how many minutes the selected files will take. Files that are not audio or video are skipped, and files you do not have enough minutes for are not selected automatically, with an explanation.

A file can be up to 500 MB. Files go up in parts, and a small queue in the corner shows the progress of each one. You can also paste a YouTube link instead of a file, and choose a folder before you start. The language is detected automatically, and speakers are told apart in every recording.

If the connection drops, the upload continues from where it stopped. A recording made in the browser stays in its tab until it is uploaded, and if that fails there is a Save file button.

Text and notes side by side

A recording opens with the transcript on the left and the tabs Notes, Quiz, Cards, Chat and Translation on the right. The transcript shows speakers and chapters and highlights the phrase that is playing. Click a timecode to jump there, change the speed, and search inside the recording with Ctrl F.

For a meeting you get tasks with checkboxes, decisions, open questions and a follow-up email you can copy in one click. Name the speakers once and rename them for the whole recording.

Switch the text to another language from the Original menu, and use Export to copy it or download TXT, SRT or VTT. The same notes and quizzes are described for the phone on the quizzes and flashcards page.

A keyboard instead of a mouse

Ctrl K opens a search of your recordings by title and of commands such as Record, Upload files and Start a review. N opens the upload screen for a new recording, and a question mark lists every shortcut. In the recorder Space pauses, M marks an important moment and Enter finishes. In a recording Space plays, the arrows move 15 seconds and Ctrl Shift C copies the whole text.

Quizzes and review sessions run on the keyboard too: keys 1 to 4 pick an answer or a rating, Space shows the answer and Esc ends the session. Shortcuts stay quiet while you type in a field. On a Mac, Command replaces Ctrl.

Library tables support the arrow keys, Enter to open and Delete to remove, always with a confirmation before anything is deleted.

One account for the phone and the browser

Sign in with Google, Apple or a code sent to your email. Use the same method as in the app, and your recordings, notes, quizzes and minutes are on the screen. There are no guest accounts in the browser. If you use the app without signing in, first sign in there under Profile, and your recordings move into the account.

Premium and extra minutes are bought only in the app, through the App Store or Google Play. The browser shows your balance, explains the steps and has a Refresh status button, so a purchase appears right after you make it.

The interface is available in five languages: English, Russian, French, Portuguese and Spanish. A new account gets a sample recording to look at.

Answers

Questions about the web version

More answers are in the help center, in English and Russian.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Open the web version in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox and sign in. Recording a call with tab audio needs Chrome or Edge on Windows or Mac, because Safari and Firefox do not share the sound of a tab. In those browsers you can still record from the microphone, upload files and read everything else. The phone apps are still the better place for recording in the background.

I use the app. Will my recordings be here?

Yes, if you sign in the same way as in the app: with Google, Apple or an email code. Your recordings, notes, quizzes and minutes are tied to the account. If you use the app without signing in, open Profile in the app first and sign in there, so that your recordings move into the account. Without that step the browser would open a new account without your recordings.

How do I buy more minutes?

Minutes and Premium are bought in the SozAI app through the App Store or Google Play, not in the browser. After a purchase they appear in the browser too, and the Refresh status button updates the balance right away. If you bought as a guest and the browser still shows a free account, sign in in the app the same way as in the browser. Prices are on the pricing page, for example from $3.99 a week as an orientation price.

Can I record a call from the Zoom app?

The browser records the sound of a browser tab, not of another program. If your meeting runs in a tab, such as Meet or Zoom on the web, choose Tab audio. If it runs in the Zoom desktop app, open the meeting in the browser instead, or record with the microphone, or record in Zoom itself and upload the file. Phones cannot record calls from other apps at all, which is a limit of the system.

Does it work on a phone?

The pages adapt to a phone screen, with one column and tabs at the bottom, but recording in the background, widgets and sharing from other apps belong to the app. On iPhone, Safari stops a browser recording when the screen locks, so long recordings are safer in the app. You can find the apps on the download page.

Who can see my recordings?

We do not show your recordings to other users unless you share them yourself. You can delete a recording or the whole account at any time, with a confirmation before anything is removed. On your first sign-in the web version asks for consent to AI processing, as the app does, unless you already gave it in the app, and the Privacy Policy describes how recordings are handled. The pages of the web version are not indexed by search engines.

Do I pay extra for the browser?

No. The minutes and the plan are the same as in the app, because there is one account. The first 30 minutes of transcription are free once per account, and quizzes, flashcards and notes do not use minutes. Premium adds more minutes, and you buy it in the app. Nothing is billed by the web version itself.

Open your recordings on a bigger screen

Sign in the same way as in the app, and your recordings, notes, quizzes and minutes are already there. The first 30 minutes of transcription are free.
