the difficulties that we're having with it, because I've always been interested, or in my career I've always been interested in the idea of wonder. You see, once upon a time, individually and collectively, we wondered at the world, and when you're a little

and he would look at his snow crystals and then he would try to draw them but he himself recognized he was no great uh great artist and so they were still very rudimentary where we start to get more detailed um

ideas about the structure and also the incredible beauty of snow crystals is with this guy this is scorsby which many people may know as a one of the great explorers of the north and also one of the whalers of the north in his

notebooks from the 1920s and i know this is a bit it's hard to see but i wanted to give you some idea of well first off just how he covered the pages but a little bit of some of the drawings

that he would offer he did these remarkable etchings of snowflakes of snow crystals more specifically he took such great care here's a another image that you can take a look at where you see the detail that he gets into the

intricacies of the drawings as he tried to understand more about what the snow crystal was like and in many ways lay the groundwork for this person this is james glacier uh one of those people sort of lost to um the history of science

uh he was the first one of the original co-founders of the royal meteorological society he was involved in a lot of early studies of the weather and early findings early scientific findings concerning wind and rain and anyways here he is
