Intraday Bias Simplified - ICT Concepts

ICT intraday bias walkthrough: using previous candle highs and lows as draws on liquidity and reversal points, with 4-hour chart examples and trade framing.

Key Takeaways

  • Previous candle highs and lows act as draws on liquidity and as reversal levels
  • Failure to displace or close beyond a level suggests a reversal or return into the range
  • Inside bars signal no clear direction and call for patience
  • Higher-timeframe draws on liquidity should guide lower-timeframe entries

What the video covers

  • Video is a follow-up to a daily bias video, recommended to watch first
  • Creator announces a free Discord community and credits the MMXM Trader for teaching many of the concepts
  • Previous candle high and low can frame a draw on liquidity: price tends to reach for the previous candle's high in an uptrend or low in a downtrend
  • If price cannot displace out of a range or close beyond the previous candle level, a reversal can be framed
  • Price may take a previous high or low and then fall back into the range, targeting the opposite side
  • Inside bars give no directional bias; the trader waits for a continuation or further sweep
  • Worked examples on the 4-hour chart walk through sequences of sweeps, closes inside or outside prior candles, and bias changes
  • Lower timeframes such as 1-hour, 30-minute, and 15-minute are noisier but usable with higher-timeframe bias
  • Fair value gaps and order blocks on lower timeframes are identified as potential entries when price returns to them
  • Trade example uses a 4-hour draw on liquidity, a 15-minute entry, and a stated target of roughly 2.3R

Questions about this video

What is the main concept this video teaches?

It teaches using the previous candle's high and low to frame intraday bias, identifying them as draws on liquidity when price is likely to reach them, or as reversal points when price fails to displace beyond them.

How does the creator interpret an inside bar?

An inside bar gives no directional bias, so the creator waits for a continuation of the trend or a further sweep of a previous high or low before taking a view.

Which timeframes are used in the examples?

The main examples use the 4-hour chart for bias, with lower timeframes such as the 15-minute used for entries. The creator notes lower timeframes like the 1-hour, 30-minute, and 15-minute become noisier.

how's it going everyone. This video is going to be over intraday bias. If you haven't seen my daily bias video, I will link that in the top right corner, and I suggest watching that prior to this video.

this range forever is going to have to reach for the previous candles high or the previous candles low considering price is moving up here it's more likely to take previous candles high so this can be used as a draw on liquidity
01:02
Speaker A
So let's get into it. The first thing we're going to take a look at is the previous candle's high and low. This can be used to frame a draw on liquidity or a reversal. For example, here, unless price is going to consolidate in this range forever, it's going to have to reach for the previous candle's high or the previous candle's low. Considering price is moving up here, it's more likely to take the previous candle's high, so this can be used as a draw on liquidity.
01:17

of this range or above previous candles high and then we can anticipate price falling back into the range or to reach for the other side of the range previous candles low similarly with the bearish example here price cannot displace or
01:31
Speaker A
Similarly, over here with a bearish example, price is more likely to reach for the previous candle's low than the previous candle's high.
01:46
Speaker A
reversal can be framed off of this previous candles level or we can anticipate price drawing lower in the next candle on this next candle price reaches below the previous candle's low however cannot displace out of this range and closes back in a reversal
02:02
Speaker A
Reversals can also be framed off of previous candle highs and lows. For example, here price cannot displace out of this range or above the previous candle's high, and then we can anticipate price falling back into the range or reaching for the other side of the range, the previous candle's low.
02:15
Speaker A
few examples of this so for this first example we're going to be on the four hour chart here and we're just going to focus on the previous candles high and low so if you notice here what did this
02:26
Speaker A
Similarly, with the bearish example here, price cannot displace or close below the previous candle's low. It is likely to come back into the range, and a reversal can be framed.
02:42
Speaker A
this previous low to be taken right here we just about take the previous low we do not so I can still hold the bias there since we're inside here we take the previous low but do we close out no so I can anticipate a reach
03:00
Speaker A
So in this example right here, we have a previous candle's high. Price cannot displace out of this range, closes back in. So a reversal can be framed off of this previous candle's level. Or we can anticipate price drawing lower in the next candle. On this next candle, price reaches below the previous candle's low, however cannot displace out of this range and closes back in. A reversal could be framed here, or on the next candle we can anticipate price drawing higher to this previous candle's high, and then can anticipate the next candle also reaching for the previous candle's high as well.
03:16
Speaker A
other side and close out here I would want to see this previous High right here you can see we get a lot of displacement out of this range and the close outside from here either consolidation or this previous High
03:34
Speaker A
So let's take a look at a few examples of this. For this first example, we're going to be on the four-hour chart, and we're just going to focus on the previous candle's high and low. If you notice here, what did this candle do? We took out the previous candle's high, so I could anticipate this current high being taken as well. When we go forward one candle, can we displace out of this range or close outside? No. So now I can expect this previous low to be taken. Right here we just about take the previous low, we do not. So I can still hold the bias there, since we're inside. Here we take the previous low, but do we close out? No. So I can anticipate a reach for this previous candle's high here. We take the previous candle's high, we can't close out. So then I can look for this previous candle's low here. We take the previous candle's low, we frame a reversal, and then reach to the other side and close out here.
03:52
Speaker A
have an inside bar so no direction from here I'd want to see just a continuation of this trend up so reach for this previous High here we get a close over our previous candle so I'd want to see this previous
04:08
Speaker A
I would want to see this previous high right here. You can see we get a lot of displacement out of this range and the close outside. From here, either consolidation or this previous high. Here we take this previous high, we can't close out from here. I'd want to see this previous low right here. We take the previous low, we can't close outside. So I want to see this previous high. Let me zoom in here a little. Here we have an inside bar, so no direction from here. I'd want to see just a continuation of this trend up, so reach for this previous high here. We get a close over our previous candle, so I'd want to see this previous candle's high right here. You can see we take that high right there, but also we can't close over our previous candle's high. So from here I'd want to see the previous candle's low. Here you can see we take the previous candle's low, but we also take its high. From here we kind of swept everything in the range, and I don't really have a lot of bias here. So then I let another candle play out. Right here we took this previous candle's high but couldn't close out, so I could be looking for the previous candle's low right here. We took the previous candle's low, we did close out, so I could be looking for the previous candle's low right here. We took the previous candle's low, we closed out. I can be looking for the previous candle's low right here, inside candle, so just a continuation of the trend. Let's see what happens, and there we are, wrong. We took this previous candle's high, so now I can't anticipate a reach for this previous high right here. We reach, close outside this previous high, so I could look for a previous high being taken right here, close outside. I could look for the previous high right here. We take the previous high, close inside. Now I'd want to be looking for this previous low right here. We take the previous low, we can't close out. Now I can be looking for this previous high, inside bar. We'd like to see a continuation of this trend. Let's see if we reach for this previous high here or this previous candle's high right here. We reach both of those, but we can't close outside. However, we already hit this previous candle's low, so right here I'm not super biased, but could be looking for the previous candle's low, and we do get that, but we take both sides of the range here. I don't have a lot of bias at all, so let's see what the next candle tells us.
04:25
Speaker A
low but we also take its high from here we kind of swept everything in the range and I don't really have a lot of bias here so then I let another candle play out right here we took this previous candle high but
04:39
Speaker A
Okay, large aggressive displacement out. So I could be looking for the previous candle's high right here, take the previous candle's high, close back in. Can be looking for the previous candle's low here. We take that, can't close out. Can be looking for the previous candle's high, inside candle, just want a continuation. So I reach for this high or this high. There we go, we take that, close lower. So I'd be looking for a reach of this previous candle as well, take this, close back inside. So from here I'd be looking for the previous candle's high, and right there, close back in. So I'd want to be looking for this low, and you can see we are wrong there. You can see that just by using the previous candle's high or low, I can frame a reversal or a draw on liquidity depending on the candle's closure.
04:59
Speaker A
previous candles low right here inside candle so just a continuation of the trend let's see what happens and there we are wrong so we took this previous candle's high so now I can't anticipate a reach for this previous
05:16
Speaker A
Now, I'm not always going to be correct, as you can see here and here. However, I do not expect to always be correct. I am just trying to find something that will give me a reliable draw on liquidity that I can confirm on the lower timeframes. I can also go through and do this on the lower timeframes, such as the one-hour, 30-minute, and even the 15-minute. It just becomes a little bit more noisy as you go lower. If you've watched my daily bias video, coming from that video and looking at this bias right here, you can see that the daily is a little bit clearer. But we will just drop down to the hour chart really quick, hop back into some price action, and see how it works out.
05:37
Speaker A
for this previous low right here we take the previous low we can't close out now I can be looking for this previous High inside bar we'd like to see a continuation of this trend let's see if we reach for this previous High here or
05:56
Speaker A
We take our previous low and close over our high here. From here I can expect a reach for this previous high, reach for our previous high, close out. I want to see another reach for a previous high, close out, reach for another previous high right here. We can't close outside, so I'd want to see it reach for a previous low right here. You can see we end up sweeping this high and then closing below this low. From here I can reach for this previous low once again, close out, reach for a previous low, closeout, see if it will reach for a previous low, reaches for a previous low. You can see we still did close outside. I reached for this previous low, we're stuck inside now. So now that we're range-bound, this is what I mean, it gets a little bit more messy on the lower timeframes. Here I just mark out the range high and range low, and then wait for price to reach one of those sides. So here we reach the range high, close outside. I'd want to see it reach for this previous high here. We reach for the previous high, close back in. Although we're outside the range, we want to see if it reaches for this previous low, and there we go. We reached for this previous low and the other side of the range. I could reach for this previous low, and you can see how that works still closi
06:15
Speaker A
sides of the range here don't have a lot of bias at all so let's see what the next candle tells us okay so large aggressive displacement out so I could be looking for previous candles High right here take previous candles High
06:33
Speaker A
close back in can be looking for previous candles flow here we take that can't close out can be looking for previous candles High inside candle just want a continuation so I reach for this high or this high there we go we take that close lower so
06:56
Speaker A
I'd be looking for a reach of this previous candle as well take this close back inside so from here I'd be looking for previous candles hi and right there close back in so I'd want to be looking for this low
07:19
Speaker A
and you can see we are wrong there you can see that just by using the previous candles high or low I can frame a reversal or a drawn liquidity depending on the candle's closure now I'm not always going to be correct as
07:33
Speaker A
you can see here and here however I do not expect to always be correct I am just trying to find something that will give me a reliable draw on liquidity that I can confirm on the lower time frames now I can also go through and do
07:46
Speaker A
this on the lower time frame such as the one hour 30 minute and even the 15 minute it just becomes a little bit more noisy as you go lower if you've watched my daily bias video coming from that
07:56
Speaker A
video and looking at this bias right here you can see that the daily is a little bit clearer but we will just drop down to the hour chart really quick we will hop back into some price action and
08:06
Speaker A
see how it works out we take our previous low and close over our high here from here I can expect a reach for this previous High reach for our previous High close out I want to see another reach for a previous
08:22
Speaker A
High close out reach for another previous High right here we can't close outside so I'd want to see it reach for a previous low right here you can see we end up sweeping this high and then closing below this low from here
08:42
Speaker A
I can reach for this previous low once again close out reach for a previous low closeout see if it will reach for a previous low reaches for a previous low you can see we still did close outside I reached for
09:01
Speaker A
this previous low we're stuck inside now so now that we're range bound this is what I mean it gets a little bit more messy on the lower time frames here I just Mark out the Range High and range
09:13
Speaker A
low and then wait for price to reach one of those sides so here we reach the Range High close outside would want to see it reach for this previous High here we reach for the previous High close back in although we're outside the
09:28
Speaker A
range we want to see if it reaches for this previous low and there we go we reached for this previous low and the other side of the range could reach for this previous low and you can see how that works still
09:42
Speaker A
closing outside can we reach for this previous low think it we just hit it but now we're closing back inside this candle from here reach for this previous High and we close outside reach for this previous High with that quick run through there on the
10:04
Speaker A
hour chart you can see it's a little bit more messy than the four hour chart which is expected but you can see that it still does work however there are times where it is going to fail let's get back to the PDF and look at a
10:15
Speaker A
few other ways to get intraday bias the next thing we are going to cover are swing points failure to displace and then the next day model or just the next candle model so swing points if you haven't seen my video on buy side and
10:29
Speaker A
sell side liquidity I'll link that in the top right however swing points are just turning points in the market we can use these to anticipate as a draw on liquidity or also frame a reversal off of them so for example if we have a
10:42
Speaker A
swing point where we fail to displace or close outside the range and come back in this can be used to frame a reversal higher similarly up here if we fail to displace out of this range we can frame a
10:54
Speaker A
reversal back into the range that brings me to the next candle model or the next day model from the mmxm trader what is happening here is when a candle fails to displace outside a swing point we can anticipate price moving higher back into
11:11
Speaker A
the range on the next candle so for example when this candle failed to displace out this range we get a move higher on the next candle and that continues to the next swing point in the market here we can't displace out of this range
11:26
Speaker A
so I could anticipate price moving back into the range on the next candle we fail to displace out this Range close back in I can't anticipate the next candle moving lower or when price respects a PD array I can
11:41
Speaker A
anticipate the next candle moving lower to our drawn liquidity so let's get into the charts so let's take a look at how we can use swing points as well as just using our previous candles high and low and putting it all together so for
11:54
Speaker A
example here we have a swing Point resting here and here if you notice this one came out of a fair value Gap we're likely to reach for this low so let's see what happens right here we reach for this low what do
12:08
Speaker A
we notice closes below the previous candle closes below the swing point from here I'd want to see a continuation lower here we get a continuation lower but what do we notice about the candle it closes back in the range so from here
12:24
Speaker A
I'd want to see a move Above This high or back into the range here we get a move Above This High it closes back in so what can we see happening a reach below this low right here we barely touch that low side I want to
12:44
Speaker A
see it still taken right here get a reach below this low and closes below so now I'd want to see another reach below this low right here we reach below this low as well as this swing point so I'd want to
12:59
Speaker A
see price reach lower and take this previous candles low here we get a move way lower however we close back into the range from here I'd want to see a reach above this high right here we get an aggressive move
13:17
Speaker A
higher closing over this previous high so where could we be reaching this previous candle's High however we can also look to our left what do we have we have swing points so let's see what happens inside candle let's see if we get a
13:36
Speaker A
continuation right here we close over this high and over the previous candles high so I don't want to see us reach higher to these highs right here you can see we reach these two swing points however we can't close
13:51
Speaker A
outside them so I'd want to see a reach to this low or what do we have lower a fair value Gap so there we reach towards this fair value Gap we do respect it so from here this is where I'd be looking for a next
14:06
Speaker A
day model because it respects a PD array I'd want to see it switch for this high or a swing point and we do sweep this low first but then we do end up taking both of those now let me clean up the chart a little
14:21
Speaker A
before we continue so if you notice we respected this fair value Gap close over previous kennels High and the swing Point High from here I'd want to move higher or this candle is high right here we get a move out of this
14:39
Speaker A
range let's see if we take this previous candle's high again we do however here is some conflict right we don't close outside of here so I'd want to say lower but we do have a fair value Gap right here so I would
14:55
Speaker A
probably say to reach for this low but there is some indecision here and we have an inside bar let's see what happens we do reach for this low now we close below the swing point and our previous candle so I'd want to see a
15:10
Speaker A
reach for this flow here we reach into here and this is when I start to look left right although we are closing out we're in an uptrend and now we're being supported by an order block we're closing outside of this so this is
15:28
Speaker A
where I'd be considering a next day model to reach where previous candles high or a swing High right there we get a move higher this is closing outside this previous candle's high so I'd want to see it reach higher
15:50
Speaker A
oh that is where we are at right now so this candle closed over the previous candles high so I'd be looking for this High to be taken which it was ultimately I have three points of interest here this previous candle is low because if
16:05
Speaker A
we close inside here likely to see this low this fair value Gap and then this swing Point here so let's run through some top-down analysis using intraday bias so for this example we'll use the four hour we were already
16:21
Speaker A
talking about for our bias here and we will drop down to the one minute time frame so let's just take a look here and we can Mark out our previous four hour high as our drawn liquidity right we can expect price to expand
16:35
Speaker A
higher however let's just stick with that as our drawn liquidity so here we are on the 15 minute chart and this is our new four hour candle open so we'll go ahead and Mark that out and from here
16:46
Speaker A
if we want to see price move higher we want to see price move down first right so we get our open low high close and let's just use what we learned earlier about our swing points right so let's
16:59
Speaker A
mark out this swing point and see what happens if price reaches into this area so if we're using what we learned earlier price took this swing point but closed back in the range so we can expect price to want to go to this
17:16
Speaker A
previous high or move higher from here we know that our next 15 minute candle open is at six so let's go down to the one minute so here we are on the one minute and if we want to see price move higher we want
17:31
Speaker A
to see some sort of open low high close on this time frame as well however we won't really focus on that too much we'll just watch the price action so as we let this continue forward here is our
17:42
Speaker A
open right here marking out a swing point you can see we don't go below this swing point right we can't displace so I want to see price move back into the range here all right what do we get we don't get
18:00
Speaker A
any displacement back in we can't close over this previous candle so that makes me believe we want to make what a new low or reach for this previous loan nice full body candle into this level we get displacement out
18:20
Speaker A
and that displacement continues so what is this this is our order block and we have a fair value Gap resting right here so if we wanted to take a low risk buy we could look to enter right here and we could partial
18:39
Speaker A
on this high right here and then ideally we'd want to be targeting our previous four hour high right this is our drawn liquidity but let's see if price reacts here and then we will look for a later entry
19:02
Speaker A
so right here price comes down to this order Block in Fair Value Gap let's see if we get a reaction out of this right so good displacement out of this if you notice this bearish fair value Gap here
19:15
Speaker A
is disrespected we close over it so let's see what this next candle does and now we are left with a fair value Gap here so this would be a entry right here I stopped there I could look to partial or I can look to
19:31
Speaker A
draw towards our four hour drawn liquidity right so let's see what happens right ideally if price reaches below these this fair value Gap here we want to see this order block respect price here we get some consolidation start to move higher and let's go out to
20:02
Speaker A
a five minute chart to watch this play out start to get displacement up and there we go reach for that high right and so that's just a four hour open low high close but when does this four hour candle close
20:21
Speaker A
right here at nine so I can expect distribution throughout this time period before a high and then a close right so let's see how this plays out it reaches all the way up there before the close of that candle so if we pull
20:37
Speaker A
up an open low high close indicator you can see that for our open marked out and anything below that in a bullish candle here is at a discount so buying at a discount of multiple time ranges is ideal and although this is our drawn
20:53
Speaker A
liquidity just the previous four hour candle you can see we get the expansion much higher before the high and then the close of that candle all of this is based off of a higher time frame draw on liquidity in this next example we will
21:06
Speaker A
be going down from an hourly chart down to a 30 second chart I don't personally use this but I had a few people ask questions about it so hopefully this will answer their questions but with the hour right here you can see it would
21:20
Speaker A
take our previous hour low and close back inside and really easy draw is our previous hour high so let's drop down to a five minute here you can see we marked out our previous hours low that gets taken in move above another sweep but
21:35
Speaker A
most importantly from right here to right here it closes back into the range so if we get our next candle here this is our open of our new hour we have price respecting a fair value Gap here on the five minute chart so
21:51
Speaker A
ideally I'd want to see price draw from this fair value Gap to our previous hour high so let's drop down to the 30 second chart so here is the open of our new hour candle we get a move lower still
22:04
Speaker A
respecting this fair value Gap and then displacement up so with this displacement we have a fair value Gap I could look to enter on the 30 second chart right here targeting previous hours High there we go we get another fair value Gap here it
22:23
Speaker A
gets respected and there we go we reach our previous hours high now if I don't want to go down to the 30 second chart how can I do that let's go back to the one minute and replay it and take a look so right here
22:37
Speaker A
respecting the five minute fair value Gap we get displacement out right here so I would personally be looking at this order block right here if price was going to return to that however price is displacing towards the Target now my ad gets drawn to this fair
22:56
Speaker A
value Gap here and if I was going to enter on this fair value Gap I would at least need my stop on this low right here below the mean threshold of this order block that way price could come back to
23:09
Speaker A
this order block and I wouldn't be stopped out however with that I would not be able to put my target right at this High because I need at least two R personally so I would have to have my
23:19
Speaker A
target there but letting this play out on the one minute it looks something like that so in this last example it is actually price action we went over in the beginning of this video but ym could not close over this
23:32
Speaker A
previous four hour high and that gave us bias to this four hour low so let's go down to the 15 minute time frame so here we have the 15 minute time frame you can see the failure to displays over this
23:45
Speaker A
previous high and here is when our new four hour candle opens so let's see what happens or our candle opens and we start dropping we are in a fair value Gap array on this side and we just put in a fair value Gap
23:59
Speaker A
right here so just using the 15 minute as an execution time frame you can either enter this fair value Gap here or I can look for the consequent encroachment of it but we'll just leave it at the start of the fair value Gap I
24:13
Speaker A
stop on the high and my target on the previous four hour low that gives 2.3r so let's see how this works out and there we go using the four hour time frame for bias and a 15 minute time
24:29
Speaker A
frame for execution we took it from one side of the range to the other so you may have noticed the similarities in this video to my daily bias video and that is because these concepts are fractal if I was to use this on the
24:42
Speaker A
weekly chart I would use it the same way as I did on the five minute chart now with that being said I hope you did enjoy this video learned something and if you did please consider liking and subscribing and I'll see you guys next
