Guide to setting up head tracking and controls in War Dogs firing range before launch.
Key Takeaways
- War Dogs firing range allows early control and flight testing before official launch.
- Proper configuration of flight assists, sensitivities, and free look is essential for optimal gameplay.
- OpenTrack integration with mouse emulation enables effective head tracking for immersive experience.
- Re-centering controls are necessary to maintain accurate head tracking during gameplay.
- Settings are customizable and may evolve as the game develops.
What the video covers
- War Dogs is not launched yet, but players can access the firing range to test controls and flight mechanics.
- Adjust gameplay settings by increasing field of view and setting EDS to affected for armed helicopters.
- Disable all flight assists in controls and enable free look by default on the mouse.
- Set roll, pitch, and yaw sensitivity to 90, and collective sensitivity to 60, noting collective acts more like range of motion.
- Settings may change in the future and depend on individual button mappings and hotkeys.
- In OpenTrack, use your usual input method (e.g., SteamVR) and enable mouse emulation with X axis as yaw and Y axis as pitch.
- Adjust sensitivity slightly above middle based on personal preference and screen size.
- Assign start and stop tracking buttons to control head tracking activation.
- Head tracking allows natural looking around in the helicopter with free look enabled.
- A thumb stick is used to re-center head tracking if it drifts or hits movement edges.

War Dogs isn't launched yet, but you can get into the firing range to test out all your controls, get a little bit of flight time in before it launches. So, in gameplay, turn up all of your field of view. Turn
Speaker A
EDS to affected. This matters with the armed helicopters. In controls, go down, go to settings, and turn off all of your flight assists, and then do free look on by default on the mouse.
Speaker A
In here, do roll sensitivity 90, pitch sensitivity 90, yaw sensitivity 90. I did collective sensitivity at 60. This doesn't appear to be sensitivity. This seems to be range of motion.
Speaker A
And so, it's, uh, it's definitely a bit goofy. So, all these are going to change at some point. Everything else is very self-explanatory.
Speaker A
But, here's a quick breakdown. It's really also dependent on what button based on your hottest. So, a lot of those buttons won't matter to you anyways.
Speaker A
All right. Next thing, over here in OpenTrack, have your input be whatever you normally do. I do SteamVR. Go mouse emulation.
Speaker A
X axis, do yaw. Y axis, do pitch. Sensitivity, just slightly higher than middle. Um, but that will depend on what works for you. And it basically should be when you're looking at them looking left and right, you're looking at where the mouse
Speaker A
is going. That's about the sensitivity that I have, but that kind of depends on your screen size.
Speaker A
Um, other thing you need to do is do a start tracking and stop tracking button.
Speaker A
And then, you can do this. With all that going, when you look around, it should look around like this.
Speaker A
So, when you turn it off, it should be off. Nothing happens. Turn off on, and then you're looking around. So, what that looks like when you get into the helicopter is that automatically you will look around because you have free look on by
Speaker A
default. I've got a little stick here where I bound to the free look controls because if you hit the edge of where your head movement should be, it messes up the centering of the tracking.
Speaker A
So, I've got this little thumb stick, so if I ever get off, I can use this thumb stick to re-center where my center is, and then use head tracking like normal.
