We've prayed and believed. No sense said today I want to preach a sermon entitled "Maturing the Ear That Hears God."

Maturing the ear that hears God. This should have been almost like a part three of hearing the voice of God. I did two parts recently. So those of you who are following that sermon series will love this.

It goes deeper into some aspects I've always wanted to, and I'm making right on the sermon. I think I promised about a year or two back. If you remember, Pastor Brian, he writes those sermons for me. Always

promised to preach a sermon on when God says yes and yet he means no, or God's yes does not necessarily mean yes.

I promised a conversation there, and today is the day that God gives us the grace to hear what he says.

Hallelujah. And I pray that you will not miss what he's saying in Jesus' name. Now, when you read this portion of scripture, it sincerely looks like a contradiction.

No, think about it. God comes to Balaam at night and says to him, "If the men come to call you, rise and go with them, but only the word which I speak to you that you shall do." And then he says, "Okay,

I've heard God." So he rises up early in the morning, saddles his donkey, and goes to the princess of Moab. And verses 22, "And the anger of the Lord was aroused because he went to the end that the angel of the Lord

took his stand in the way as an adversary against him while he was riding on his donkey." In fact, at one point, we realize that as the scripture tells us in the New Testament that the speaking donkey had to stop or

restrain the madness of a prophet. "Why are you angry? Yet you're the one who told me to go.

What have I done wrong?" Are you getting the point? And I'll emphasize this. This kind of conversation can mostly be understood by men who pray. Because this is the kind of tragedy that befalls many praying people.

People who don't pray, you know, they wander into ruin anyway. It's not a surprise when a man who doesn't have a prayerful life lands into trouble.

But it's disturbing when you know a person who has been fasting, praying, sowing, doing everything. They are so committed in the church.

They gave a seed. They waited on the Lord for confirmation, and the confirmation came, but it took them into some ruin or destruction.

They have the evidence in their hands. They recall the date the prophecy was given. They even have the specific scripture that God gave them when they dropped the Bible down. They can even name the prophet who gave them the word

from God and agreed with them. They have many proofs that show that they tried to seek God's will, but now they're standing in wreck and they're confused. If God spoke, why is this business dying? If God said,

"Yes," why is my marriage in trouble or shambles? And sometimes we even minister sermons to sort of shield or mask their indifference and sort of bring comfort to their blindness. We're not helping them because even we ministers sometimes

don't even know how to help them. We do not know or have a revelation of this that God wants to reveal to us today.

So I pray in the name of Jesus that especially for those of you who seek God, that you will not miss him.

Say amen. I have learned through this text that God will sometimes grant you what he does not want for you.
Speaker A
And that granting will feel exactly like God's leading. You will be convinced that he's guiding.

And so maturity is not the ability to hear God. Maturity is not the ability to hear God.

It's the ability to know what he means. That's maturity. So in the first two sessions when I taught about hearing the voice of God, which was expedient because we even have Christians who are on the level of

not being able to hear God because their foundations were fractured. But hearing God does not mean that you're going to become an effective minister. And I give the example of a child.

You can get a two-day-old child and speak to them. But while you're speaking to them, everything you're speaking, they can hear. Isn't it?

But they don't understand what you're speaking. Why? Because they are not yet mature. 1 Corinthians 13:11.

When I was a child, Paul says, "I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, and I thought as a child." You see, you understand. So, imagine you are explaining the internet to a two-year-old.

I know a two, a yes, a one-year-old. What will they understand? Are they hearing you?

Are they hearing you? Yes. But does that mean that they understand what you're saying? No.

So we peel off the layer of understanding God and connect men into the God frequency. It is expedient to mature them to the ability to tell what he means, to understand what he means. 1 Corinthians 14:10 tells us there are

many voices in the world, but there's none without signification or meaning. Therefore, if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.

Barbarian there means foreigner. If I know not the meaning of a voice, New King James would say or language, I shall be a foreigner to him that speaks and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me. Meaning of the voice. Interestingly,

the Greek word there for meaning is dunamis. If I know not the power of the voice. That means to know the meaning lies the power.

Knowing the meaning of the voice comes with the power to execute the purposes of God.

Are you listening to me? Now before I go into the story to give context because I always love to give context,

I want to first lay the foundation of the three kinds of God's will. The three kinds of God's will you're writing down.
Speaker A
I want to lay the foundations that you keep this in the back of your head when we go to the context. I would have preferred to go to the context first,

but that is in lieu of the thought or expectation that you all understand the three kinds of will. Because we have people who have just joined the church recently. You've just been born again or some of you are still confused in

understanding the will of God. Please allow me to take us through those in a very quick or short time and then we get that clear. So when we go back to the context, you know where I'm coming

from. The first kind of God's will is called the decretive will. Some of you have heard me use it often with examples.
Speaker A
And in definition, it is what God has determined in his sovereignty to happen. That is the kind of will that cannot be changed. It cannot be stopped. It cannot be thwarted. It cannot be altered.

Neither can it be resisted. You can't resist it. It's there. Take for instance, it was the decretive will of God that Jesus Christ had to be crucified at the cross. Or was there any prayer to avert that? Could anybody alter

that? Huh? Like I gave the examples a couple of months ago, years ago of Judas, that it was the decretive will that a man would betray the Lord Jesus or else how will he go on the cross? Okay. But that

does not exonerate even the betrayer from the redemptive power of God. That's why I explained some of that revelation in one of those sermons, the lessons we can learn from Judas. You go look it up. You'll love it. It's what

God has said must be. He says, "Let there be light." That's decretive. You can't say the light won't come.
Speaker A
Genesis 1:3. Okay. Now the second is the preceptive will of God. And in the simplest definition, this is the will that reveals his commandments or desires.

His commandments or desires. "Thou shalt not kill." That's preceptive. Precept. Okay? Like decretive, decree.
Speaker A
You follow? So preceptive is what does he desire? What does he command you to do? It touches his commandments, his moral laws, his holy precepts as he gives them to man.

Just shows you what he delights in.
Speaker A
It's the one he says, "I want this." But then we find ourselves do opposite. If you're a Christian, it breaks your heart. If you do not know God, it's one and the same.

Okay? You love your neighbors, you love yourself. Do we all love our neighbors? We love ourselves. No. But that's perceptive.

Three is what we call the permissive wheel. It occurs when God chooses to allow intelligent creatures. So you have an intellect working to act contrary to his perceptive will without immediately stopping them. He doesn't stop you immediately. Consequently,

there's an end for it to to that. Permissive will always does not end well. It never ends well. But immediately God will say, "Yes, I love you." God says, "But you don't love me enough to do my preceptive will, what I desire.

However, in the spirit of love, grace, and mercy, not to lude you, lose you, sorry.

I would rather provide the permissive will at the expense of what I would have required you to do so I do not lose you.

Let me allow it. Let's go through a journey of learning and unlearning experiences. Perhaps when we get to the end, you'll mature next time to ask or yield to what is perceptive. But for now, I'll be patient with you.

navigating around that. Now, the story is very simple from numbers 22. Very quickly, Balac, the king of Moab, hears that the children of Israel have encamped near his territory. And he has heard before the wars that they've had

with the enemies they encountered through the way the Amorites and many of those people that they fought. He knows war is coming to him.

He knows Israel is more powerful than he is. So he says, okay, from verse 5, Numbers 22, he sent messengers to Balam, the son of Bor at Pth. Balam was a Syrian prophet. He wasn't Jew was one of

those prophets that were not Jewish or Israelite. So he tells him, "My people is come from Egypt. They they've covered the face of the earth and are settling next to me.

Therefore, please come at once, cast these people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall not be able to defeat them, drive them, or drive them out of the land. For I know he whom you bless. Oh, sorry, I read

true prophet because the spirit of the divine will always look for a pay to prophesy. And that's really the red light that you know goes on every time um we are trying to design between true prophets and prophets that are not of

God. The spirit of the prophet is no the spirit of prophecy the Bible says is no the spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet firstly the scripture says the spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet revelations

Sometimes it's not that these prophets are not of God. Sometimes there actually two prophets of God, but they yield to their lusts and allow to use their gift.

And the moment a prophet allows to use his gift for pay, they the eye shifts from divine inspiration to familiar or div familiar spiritual divination.

Now, because the prophet is a channel, God can speak to him easily as uh the devil can.

You get my point? Now, if you're living in a generation that approves a prophet by their accuracy, you I mean that would if that's a yard stick, then you would argue that no, this is a true man of

God. And Balam is the example of a man who could easily walk by the spirit of God and prophesy. Oh man, he even prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ.

Balam was deep. Numbers 24:17 he says, "I see him but not now. I behold him but not near. A star shall come out of Jacob. A scepter shall rise out of Israel and batter the brawl of Moab and

destroy all the sons of Tom." He's talking about Jesus Christ. He had a vision. He could see. But sometimes he would uh because of of the love of of money and things like that he sometimes would yield to familiar

spirits or spirits of divination. So wherever you see a person put a price or you buy milk or you buy water or buy rice some time ago I heard people say that there's a pen. The moment that you touch

that pen there's ministries that are now selling pens. If you if you got that pen and you write 1 million, that million comes. Woohoo. If you buy this oil and it's a prophet's oil, if you put it on a

So when they come to him, verse 8, he tells them, "Lord, here tonight I'll bring back the word to you as the Lord speaks to me." So the princes of Moab stayed with Balam. Then verse 9, God came to Balam and said, "Who are these

men?" Balam says, "It's Balac, the son of Zippor, the king of Moab, sent them." And then he says, "They've come out of Egypt." Renarated the story to God as though God doesn't know it. Verse 12, God said to Balam, "You shall not go

down with them. You shall not cast the people." Four, the Bible says there are what?

Very, very clear clauses. No ambiguity. Three, you shall not go with them. I've refused you. You shall not cast the people for they are this.

But Balam can't take it. So the scripture tells us in verses 15 that when they tell Balam before when they tell Balac that Balam won't come, Balac again sent princes. Now listen to this. More numerous and more honorable than the ones that

were sent earlier. Sometimes and I gave this disclaimer in the first service. I thought how many times people deal with us that way when you're not willing to give a prophetic word or a direction.

Someone is willing to pay even more to get something out of you. And what does that do to the man of God? Imagine Bala comes until he's sent more princes, more honorable than the ones before. And verse 16 tells us that they came to

Balam and said, "Thus says Balac, the son of Zippo, please let nothing hinder you from coming." They also came with gold and silver, right? For I will certainly honor you greatly. We had brought some money, but ignore the

You know some of us judge balam but blank check and you know that the devil has a way of setting you up in the time when you are in trouble challenges come and likeh seven guiding lights of the spirit

circumstantial evidence provision now if it is not the will of God why are they coming with this offer and by the way somebody prophesied to me one day that I see a promotion coming your way and the king from afar will look for you

They'll persecute you. No, we want a king. And verse 8, the Lord says to Samuel, "Heed to the voice of the people in all they said to you, don't leave out anything. Don't say this one, I've accepted the oil and I

haven't. Listen, this is the all sovereign, all powerful God. But he says, in spite of all the power that I have, whatever they ask for you, give them.

Yeah, God has allowed. But the next sign, for they have not rejected you, but they've rejected me that I should not reign over them.

Imagine they have not rejected you, they have rejected me. In Hosea 3:11, he says, "I gave them a king in my wrath.

as God even when I don't want it. Why are you clapping? You're not supposed to clap on this one because what I'm trying to say is that even in judgment, God can answer prayer simultaneously.

Imagine that was the first statement Moses made. They'll be like, "Yay, for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord and said, who will give us meat to eat?

For it was well with us in Egypt. Therefore the Lord will give you meat and you shall eat. Yay. Verse 19. You shall not eat only one day. Imagine you [clears throat] somebody is speaking this. You shall not eat only what?

No what? No 2 days nor 5 days nor 10 days nor 20 days but you shall have meat for the whole month.

Meat lovers would say until the next line came and it says until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathome to you.

Same sentence that says yes because you have despised the Lord who is among you and have wept before him saying why did he ever come why did we ever come out of Egypt? Now let me ask you the question

that shocks us all. And I want you to listen to this question. Now that the children of Israel have realized that God is going to give them meat and it's going to go through their nostrils until becomes becomes lost them

Moses at the the the story or account at Mibba. Now the people complained in numbers 20. They want water. They're thirsty. Again, like they complained over the food.

They gathered together against Moses and Aaron. Verse two. And verse three. And the people contended with Moses and spoke saying, "If you if ONLY WE HAD DIED, WE and our brethren died before the Lord." Can you imagine? Verse four,

WHY HAVE YOU BROUGHT UP up the assembly of the Lord into this world and that we and our animals should die here? Now they they are vent and aggressive against Moses. same people.

Verse 8, God tells, of course, Moses and Aaron go into the praise of God to pray.

cuz they felt they were in trouble. People would tear them. God tells Moses, and this is what hit me. There are things that hit me as a man of God. He tells Moses, "Take the road.

You and your brother Aaron, gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water. Thus, you shall bring water for them out of the rock, not a rock." So, you know who the rock

was. and give drink to the congregation and their animals. Now, in a way, this is interesting. Why?

Because he tells Moses, "Take the road." Now, if you've been reading before, this road was not unusual road.

That road has parted waters before. Take the road, not a rod. This there was this unique one. We've seen rods swallowing snakes.
