TurboScribe does one thing well: you upload audio or video in a browser and get a transcript back, with no cap on minutes once you pay. People look elsewhere for four reasons. The free plan stops at three 30-minute files a day. There is no phone or desktop app on its site to record with. Nothing happens to the transcript after it’s made; it stays a block of text. And some want to know where the files go before they upload a client interview.
Is TurboScribe free? Where the free plan stops
Yes, with a daily cap. This is what TurboScribe’s pricing page said on 2026-10-25, next to SozAI’s plans:

Read the two free plans differently. TurboScribe’s renews every day, so a student with one 25-minute recording a day never needs to pay. SozAI’s 30 minutes are a one-time trial. If you transcribe short files often and need nothing but the text, TurboScribe’s free plan is the better deal and we would not tell you otherwise.
Is TurboScribe safe?
Going by its own security and privacy FAQ (checked 2026-10-25), TurboScribe says: files and transcripts are encrypted at rest; connections use HTTPS; its “primary data infrastructure is located in the United States”; it runs all transcription in-house and uses no third-party transcription APIs; it does not train AI models on your files; and you can delete any file, or your account, at any time. That is a clear policy, and on two points it promises more than we do.
What SozAI says, for comparison. Recordings travel over HTTPS and are stored on our servers in Germany (Hetzner). Speech recognition and the AI features are run by outside partners, each named on our sub-processors page, so unlike TurboScribe we do send your audio to a third party. We don’t sell recordings and our code never uses them to train models. Deleting a recording or your account removes the recording and everything made from it from our servers; encrypted database backups are kept for up to 12 months. More on the security page.

- Volume. $120 a year with no minute cap beats any plan with a ceiling once you transcribe hundreds of hours.
- Long, heavy files: up to 10 hours or 5 GB each, 50 at a time. Our limit is 500 MB per file.
- Exports: TurboScribe lists Word and CSV files alongside PDF, TXT, SRT and VTT. We have no Word export.
- In-house transcription, as described above.

Where SozAI fits better
When the recording starts on your phone: SozAI has apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android plus a web app, one account across them, and a YouTube link can be transcribed without downloading the video. When the transcript is the start rather than the end: each one can become a summary, structured notes, flashcards and a quiz. TurboScribe sells TurboScribe for Teams: several Unlimited licenses under one account and one yearly bill, $120 per user per year, users added or removed at any time. SozAI sells Team and Education seats at web.sozai.app, $99.99 per seat a year or $12.99 a month, paid by card with an invoice in the organization’s name; seats can be added at any time.
