The wheels have shifted in Algar. Once Colonar Shore, a beacon of pride and glory.
Speaker A
Now its towns grow beneath the weight of despair. Its people whisper of shadows moving in the rain.
Speaker A
Of oaths long broken beneath the thunder's roar. Four souls drawn together, bound by threads unseen.
Speaker A
An investigator, chasing truth through a city drowning in secrets. A thief. Mercenary by name, but fierce of heart, determined to save the whole that scorns them.
Speaker A
A fabric cloaked in falsehood, shaping light and metal, seeking to forge a better tomorrow before the storm consumes the present.
Speaker A
The Voron wolf staring defiance into the eyes of destiny, striving to become more than her world dares to allow.
Speaker A
The city trembles. Cults old and forgotten whisper beneath the weeping stone. And from the tempest comes a call for those who would speak the last eye to you.
Speaker A
Hi everyone. Welcome in to our first interlude for The Last Ideal, our Cosmir RPG story.
Speaker A
As [music] you can probably notice, we are Sans, uh, one of our players this evening. The wonderful Craig of Inspiration is, uh, not going to be joining us this evening, but in lieu of having him present, we are going to look
Speaker A
into the past. Each of our characters have [music] a breadth of experiences, a collection of key moments in their lives that have shaped who they are in the current day.
Speaker A
We are taking a step into those pasts in order to find out why they are the way that they are. Find out who and what has created the people that they are. So the very first person that we are going
Speaker A
to take a look at is Faniel. Veronial, you are a few years younger, a few years less experienced, but you are still, uh, an individual serving within the military of Colinar.
Speaker A
You are committing to the same tasks. You are still an administrative, uh, officer within the military structures. You're still writing for lieutenants and subalterns and other, uh, important figures within the Colinar military structure. It's been such a long journey to get where
Speaker A
you are and one. [laughter] It has been such a long journey to get to where you are and you haven't done this alone.
Speaker A
You have an incredible, uh, tutelage underneath a mentor of some renown, a one Captain Barin.
Speaker A
We join Feranial, I would say, on a kind of muggy summer's morning. You're in a small community just outside of Colonar.
Speaker A
You have been stationed, uh, to the small town of Winterjan, uh, for some time now and it's here that you've sort of cut your teeth, uh, finally been allowed to take on tasks for yourself. You aren't
Speaker A
just delivering span reads. You aren't just writing down the words and thoughts of some, uh, of some high mucky-muck. You've finally been given the proper mentorship of this Captain Bakarin and you've started to really become close with them. This, this mentor
Speaker A
mentee relationship has blossomed into something that you feel could actually launch you into a position of authority in the world. A place where you can make change, a place where through the, the, the sweat of your own brow become more than the sum of
Speaker A
your parts. And it is this day that you are to meet Captain Barin, uh, actually for the very first time out on the field of battle. [snorts] In a command tent just outside of Winterjan. You know that Captain Barin
Speaker A
is waiting for you. They are to meet with you, go over some plans, discuss your mentorship, and it would seem they are getting prepared to leave for a battlefield that is further afield. It's a place where, uh,
Speaker A
the Allethy military-industrial complex has, has plans. So it's a few years prior to current day Fennial. So I will ask, are your routines the same? Has anything changed when you awaken within the barracks of Winterjan? Is there anything
Speaker A
that you do? Is there anyone that you try to go and speak to? What has or hasn't changed in your daily regimen?
Speaker A
Yeah. So, she's still waking up before dawn. Uh, she's gotten into the habit of that. Um, she likes to wake up early because it's quiet and it's easy to sneak away. And so, she's going to sneak away. Um, first
Speaker A
thing in the morning, she runs through some stretches. Um, since it's barracks and it's still like a kind of public area, she has just started, I think, to test and try out new areas to try to practice. Um, she's been watching the
Speaker A
soldiers going through their drills. She's been watching her officers, um, going through the forms, the fighting different fighting forms. And so, she just wants to practice them herself.
Speaker A
She's really itching to do it. You stretch tired limbs. You work out any stiffness in the morning. You have a morning that is very likely far more unique than many would think.
Speaker A
As a woman within the country of Alithkar, especially so close to the heart, the capital of Colonar, it is so very unbecoming of a woman to get up and practice physical pursuits in such a way to, to, to
Speaker A
find joy and inspiration within the kata and the exercises of military pursuits.
Speaker A
So, you work out, you make, uh, you, you, you have a bite to eat, you go through all of these motions. And I think what I'm going to ask is before you go and you meet Barin, what is it that Feraniel is dreaming of?
Speaker A
What is your inspiration? And what is her goal? Her goal in chatting with, like, Barin or her goal in what she's practicing, what she's doing right now. I think that whatever would be on Fananiel's mind a few years back before the
Speaker A
shattered plains have been, have been sort of dominated, before the discovery of Earthu, before the, the, the radiance have come back, before any of this, what in this moment would Faniel be thinking of? Is it the meeting with Captain Barin
Speaker A
and how he can help you? Is it something more grand would be on her mind?
Speaker A
She has this really like delusional dream, uh, that she's, she's entering the battlefield standing side by side, light eyes and side by side men and she is directing a, a platoon or a squadron somewhere and they're listening to her and she just
Speaker A
she's so excited right now with this most recent, um, deployment because she just thinks this is it. This is the next step. I've really, everything, everything I've been working for. Uh, so in her head she's just like as she's
Speaker A
going through the motions and imagining this, she's imagining herself actually fighting the Parendi, uh, in the shattered plains, uh, just in, in a beautiful uniform, um, totally in her head in her own zone.
Speaker A
Perfect. Perfect. So truly, you're, you're dreaming of things that would be accessible to, to light eyes, accessible to men, accessible to, to people that, that aren't you.
Speaker A
And you're looking into a future of potential, of you're, you're really looking to a world of equality.
Speaker A
In this, in this moment. And I think that you're broken out of your reverie by a short bark, uh, of a command coming from a very recognizable voice. Uh, equal parts, uh, commanding but also friendly.
Speaker A
And you just hear, "Hey, soldier, standing around," and you whip around and whirl to see Barin.
Speaker A
He has come from the command tent to fetch you. Uh, whether or not you were late or not, you probably am.
Speaker A
You thought [laughter] you thought you weren't late. You thought you were going to be on time. Hell, you're probably, you're probably not. But Barin is, he's a, he's a prompt man. He's definitely a prompt man. Like to the tea. If you're
Speaker A
gonna be, if you're, if you're going to be on time, then you're going to be 15 minutes early.
Speaker A
And you see him standing there with these very pale silver eyes. Uh, the lush head of hair that he has even given his age. Uh, you see, you see it's, it's high officer, uh, non-barren pale. Uh, he's square of shoulder, broad. Uh, he has
Speaker A
the body and the demeanor of, of [music] a high-ranking soldier and a man who's lived a life of regimen and he asks you really quick, what does the Almighty value above all else?
Speaker A
Feraniel is totally caught off guard. She's like, the devotion, the no structure. The Almighty values structure above all else. A steady hand. A steady hand helps to maintain the order and keep what chaos at bay.
Speaker A
Bay. Yes. Yes. So you ready for the day? Yes, sir. Uh, sorry.
Speaker A
Well, let's try to see that that doesn't happen again. But we're going to make tracks. It is uh it's a special day and Barn is a man that sort of expects certain things. Uh there is a there has
Speaker A
forever in a day been an expectation for you to read his mind uh as he uh uh as as he has tried to drill into you. that being able to predict the wants and the needs of those who are in a position of
Speaker A
authority above you is uh uh tantamount to the most important quality that an administrator could have. So he turns on a heel and he starts marching away from the barracks in the direction of that command tent that you were supposed to
Speaker A
meet him at. Going to grab my pouch where I already had all my stuff ready in my pouch so I had that at least good to go. uh and run to catch up with him.
Speaker A
So you two walk in tandem. It seems as if he has left behind any sort of uh uh entourage. Um high officer Barin usually uh would have a few attendees uh some folks that would be able to uh you know tend to whatever his
Speaker A
his needs would be at the in in the moment. People to write down his words to to do whatever. And it seems as if he has uh left those those individuals behind. And you walk for about 15 minutes and and
Speaker A
you've made this trot before out to the command tent. And it's about it's it's probably about a 30-minute walk.
Speaker A
You stand on the side of a hill and as he comes to a stop and the grasses that surround this uh hillic recede and pull back into their holes as he walks by. He looks down into the valley that uh is to
Speaker A
be the place where the troops are to uh to uh form up. And he says, "Sit with me for a little while." and he takes off a uh uh takes off a little bed roll uh blanket kind of
Speaker A
situation off of his uh off of his the the bottom of his rucks sack and he places it on the ground. Take a seat.
Speaker A
Do do we have the time, sir? I thought the military runs on my clock. Fra, that's how this works. Sure.
Speaker A
All right. So he takes a seat, he crosses his legs and he sits sort of tandem to you.
Speaker A
Do you know why we are at war with the parendi? Do you understand? To get the gem hearts, sir. Right.
Speaker A
You you have read the [music] reports. I see. Yes. On on paper, uh yes, it uh it would seem as if we are after the gem hearts.
Speaker A
Speaking of which, uh I was doing some research last night and she's going to pull out her notebook and be like, I think if we just rotate the western patrol slightly, I think then those supply lines, they they'll write they'll
Speaker A
write themselves. I know they were having trouble last time. He thinks for a second.
Speaker A
He He's like, "Do you have glyphs of this and map positions? Have you written these things down?" I I could I have I have notes. I could though.
Speaker A
Make notes for me. I think that's actually western. Let's rotate it. Rotate them slightly and the supply leaves it clear for the supply line to come through. Um Okay. I was just I was just reviewing the the reports from last
Speaker A
last reviewing the reports. Really? Where'd you get access? Did you take this on yourself? Did someone give them to you? Was this tasked to you?
Speaker A
No, I just thought it would be helpful. You're a very clever girl. I will take this into consideration and we'll see if it works. It it works. I'll speak to my adviserss. Thank you.
Speaker A
But Alfithar has been at war with itself, with the West for longer than I've been alive.
Speaker A
And now we seem to have this focus. And it's not an enemy that's within.
Speaker A
It's an enemy that's without. Yeah. It's not our fellow man. It is this seemingly very surmountable, wondrous, all-consuming, very enriching foe.
Speaker A
And the more that I think about it, the more that I don't understand it. You You understand that the world is not shades of gray.
Speaker A
Some things are very black and white. So, I want you to be very candid with me.
Speaker A
Forget your roles. I want you to forget that you are a dark eyes. I want you to forget [music] that you are a woman. I want you to forget that you are in the military.
Speaker A
Okay? It's very important that you do these things. Okay? Do you think our war against the Parendi is just?
Speaker A
See, you've asked me to forget these things, but these things shape my perception. They shape who I am. And justice information is justice is justice is justice.
Speaker A
That is the way that this world works. Some things are not as complicated as many people think. When you search in your heart, your soul, the very spirit of who you are, letting everything else fall away.
Speaker A
Does Feranial, the person think that our war is just? They killed our king. They killed many of our men, but we went to war with them.
Speaker A
We let the death of one man consume us. And now we send young people to die on alien landscapes in search of riches.
Speaker A
Many people think that this is just. Many people do not. I want to know what you think.
Speaker A
She's going to take a moment. Um, her cheek her cheeks are going to flush a little bit um with kind of like embarrassment. Um, and her breath is going to catch in the back of her throat before she speaks.
Speaker A
Are are you are you sure that that you want my opinion? I I just I just want to officer Tavesh I have asked for your opinion. I am surrounded nearly 24 hours a day with sickopantic tea totling tallymaking
Speaker A
bureaucrats. I am constantly watched and hawkked by Ardans and by bright lord generals that think that they understand how [music] the world works.
Speaker A
I value your opinion. Not just as an administrator, not as an officer, as a person.
Speaker A
So yes. Well, I would love to know how the world works, but I don't think they know it either. Um, I think that the war started justly. I do [music] think that retaliation was due for their actions. However, we've been
Speaker A
fighting this for so long, and now it just seems like it's more of a contest [music] than than anything else. I I think we've we've lost that justice [music] there.
Speaker A
She's going to look like really hesitantly like making sure that like was this a trap?
Speaker A
There should be repercussions when death is doowled out. Order. That's order. I've seen the Parendi fight.
Speaker A
I have seen us move against them. I have seen my contemporaries. High Lord Sadius Amaram, Bright Lord Dallinar Colon.
Speaker A
They all fight very differently, but they do keep true one thing. that you fight until your enemy is destroyed. That is the alith car way, the parendi fight for what I believe is their home.
Speaker A
And yet they still will they will retreat and they will try to save their people.
Speaker A
And there is one thing that they do that was the catalyst for me considering anything other than their entire eradication.
Speaker A
You see, I have a very big respect for the dead. I think that death is something that is honorable and it is sacred and to utilize the death of others is a sin. And I know that that is
Speaker A
sort of anathema to the vorin concept of death leading to the tranquil halls. But I do think if we go to death too early, it can be a discredit to our lives.
Speaker A
They don't touch their dead. They let them rest. True rest. And that gave me pause.
Speaker A
So, I have had scouts watch and track, take note of their movements, of their techniques, of how they speak. They speak in these strange rhythms, but they fight in pairs. They seem to be connected and they just This is all a very long-winded way to
Speaker A
say they are people. and to say anything otherwise and to treat them as just something to be destroyed in pursuit of financial gain, grabbing of land.
Speaker A
It doesn't feel just. It doesn't feel like order. feels like we are sewing chaos and distress in an entire people.
Speaker A
So when I ask you does it seem just after stripping away everything I stripped away everything that I have my status as a bright lord a bright lord sends his men to fight the parendi I stripped away the fact that I was a man
Speaker A
a man fights when he is told to fight and I stripped away the fact that I am human I'm just a person and I think they are do.
Speaker A
I brought you here for one real reason. I can see that you have a brilliant mind and that you want to use it. That you yearn to do more with it and that you are like me.
Speaker A
You don't relish death or strife, even if it's for the enemy. So, I have I have a request for you.
Speaker A
I am going to do what I can to elevate you as much as I can. You and I are going to do great things together for as long as I can stay present with you.
Speaker A
I need you to work as hard as you can to end this war quickly.
Speaker A
I fear that something horrible is going to happen if it keeps going on. What power do do I have to help with that?
Speaker A
There are people in this world that work in secret. I don't think that you will be showered with accolades, that you will be used as a figure head, and that you will be recognized for what you do.
Speaker A
You need to be heard. And it's moments like you saying that oh you just if you if you put men on the western side and you just move their rot if you rotate their forces.
Speaker A
I would like to know if I move my forces and I rotate them just so to the western side, is that going to cause the least amount of death or is it actually the most tactically sound thing to do?
Speaker A
Because sometimes and then he starts drawing something in the sand just aside grass receding around his hand.
Speaker A
You see here I would move them north because if I move them north absolutely I will be sending young men to their death.
Speaker A
I will suffer casualties. But I am going to obliterate the enemy forces. My archers will take advantage of them. They will pinser them on both sides. And I will win the day knowing that it was a decisive victory
Speaker A
that completely destroyed the opposition. If I move them to the west, and then he starts drawing. If I move them to the west, he's going to trace it.
Speaker A
Um, his drawing with her finger like as she's calculating it in her head. Now, if I move them to the west, I'll prevent casualties on my end. We'll route their cavalry.
Speaker A
I'm sure that we'll win a decisive uh victory that day, but we aren't going to obliterate the enemy. I will not completely destroy their battalion.
Speaker A
But it allows us to move another day and it prevents the most death. That is why people like you need to be heard.
Speaker A
Because before you spoke to me today, I was about to send a hundred young men to their death.
Speaker A
And those are the decisions that I have to make. I don't envy you. Good.
Speaker A
Do you think this war will will ever end? He looks lost in thought for a second and it's like he wants to tell you something.
Speaker A
I think this war is going to get worse before it gets better. That is that is what I think.
Speaker A
Then we'll have to do our best then to what she said to try to influence saving lives.
Speaker A
That's all we can do. Well, I think we've kept everybody waiting just long enough. I'm sure that they are spinning in their seats and drawing up plans to come and rescue me or whatever it is that they've decided
Speaker A
to to focus on in the moment. I think and he stands up and offers a hand to help you up.
Speaker A
I think that it's time that you finally have one of your plans enacted. I'm sending the men to the west today.
Speaker A
And if this plan fails and young men die, you have to understand that it was your choice.
Speaker A
And if you save lives, you have to consider the weight of needing to commit to this level of tactical expertise every time you bring an idea to the table.
Speaker A
There's a lot that weighs on these choices. A leader doesn't crumble. A leader has a steady hand.
Speaker A
A leader is decisive. Have I ever told you about my favorite wartime general? Not sure about your favorite. You've told me about a few.
Speaker A
let's walk. And then he gets up and he or sorry and then he starts walking and he goes into a uh a very long- winded story on the way to the uh command tent.
Speaker A
uh very much detailing this wonderful general that always went against the uh the cultural norms and always had uh a a divisive uh word for the people that are in their circle. And then at the very end um he says and that woman's name was
Speaker A
Yasnolen. You'll never find any of her writings and you will never find any trace of her actually influencing Elar.
Speaker A
But I can tell you with absolute guarantee that she was for many years via span read.
Speaker A
A large reason why Gavlar was as successful as he was before he passed. So, and then you reach the command tent and you finally understand being late does suck and there is a whirlwind of individuals that just circle around and around and around and
Speaker A
they're and they're browbeating him and they're they're making a huge deal of the fact that he was late and all of these different things. They're getting his opinion on stuff. They say that they were waiting for uh his order on troop
Speaker A
movements. Uh you hear him give out the command that you explicitly gave. Um and then you uh it seems as if he's uh in quite a quite a state. This is a very uh a very big faux paw, but they're rushing him.
Speaker A
They're rushing him. And you see something that you hadn't seen him go through before, which is they start stripping him down and they reveal lines and scars and his body is covered in all of these nicks and old wounds. Uh it seems as if
Speaker A
he's fought a hundred battles and came out a hundred times with, you know, a horrifying injury or or something worse. A large scar across the chest from a from a uh sword blade. Uh there's a spear wound in his upper
Speaker A
thigh. You you notice that uh his back is covered in small cuts. Uh, and then all of his attendants start, as you're ushered out of the tent, all of his attendants start putting shard plate on him.
Speaker A
And you see materializing in his hand a shard blade a stark blue wavy blade with the crossuard being composed of these dual crystal structures. One pink a brilliant almost uh fierce garnet and the other side like a spanel. Uh a far
Speaker A
more adorned and cut and a spiral gold striation going from the base of the hilt all the way to the very tip of this blade.
Speaker A
Mist falling off of it. And then you are ushered out. And I'm going to ask with all of this information and the what you've seen, what is it that Feronial is thinking?
Speaker A
She's thinking about the weight of responsibility that they were talking about and how he's preparing right now and how much faith and confidence he had in her throughout that conversation. Um, and she's thinking about how her plan's going into action now. Um, and what
Speaker A
she's she's feeling really confident that she has made the right choice, but there's that voice in the back of her head that's like, is it correct?
Speaker A
What if I end up sending men to their death? How will I handle that response?
Speaker A
How will I handle that outcome? Um, and then she's her mind's drifting to thinking about the Parishandi and how he said they're people protecting their home and how she's like, I just don't know enough. I don't know. We we've been told
Speaker A
that these are dangerous enemies and they've killed our king, but where's the truth? Is that the full truth? and she's just questioning a little bit everything that she's been believing because this person she respects so much has put that seed
Speaker A
in her mind. There's a moment where as you stand lost in thought, shocked by the sort of scandalous uh dressing down of of your captain, uh the very intimate moment of of philosophical connection.
Speaker A
Can I please get a I think it's an insight. I think we're going to go an insight roll.
Speaker A
Yeah. All right. Dummy plane is loading. [laughter] Usually it is. Yeah. All right. Um that is 18.
Speaker A
18. Usually an insight is done to look outward to find meaning in someone's movements or words or their their their better actions uh over a longer period of time.
Speaker A
And this particular instance, you look inward. You're looking for insight on truth, on justice, on on morality, on what is what is good, what is what is evil.
Speaker A
And you stand outside of this command tent. Grasses blowing in the wind, retracting, flowing outwards. The fragrant smell of rock buds flowering.
Speaker A
And you see something very strange, something a little bit alien. You look up into this early morning sky, this sort of orange purple sky, and you feel like you see a sliver of starlight, like a slash from a blade has cut
Speaker A
an armlength hole in the cosmos. And you have this window into the night sky, into this infinite abyss beyond, like there was just a a grass blade of night above you.
Speaker A
And it seems so out of place. You're trying to think if it's a hallucination, if you're tired or something to that effect, but then it's gone in a flash.
Speaker A
Sort of disappears in the same vein as the blink of an eye. You try to think of all the other times that you've seen something as spectacular or fantastical as as something like this.
Speaker A
But you can't can't ever think of seeing something as alien as that. But there's many different phenomena on Roshar.
Speaker A
Stranges on top of stranges. High storms bleeding light into gems. like who's to say what is and isn't normal especially these days.
Speaker A
So we leave for Annaniel there looking into this sliver of starlight as it disappears thinking about good and evil, truth and justice, right and wrong.
Speaker A
Do you feel like that is an appropriate place to zoom out? Yeah, perfect. Okay.
Speaker A
All right. We stepped just a few years into the past of Feraniel. Just just a short while.
Speaker A
But we are now going to step uh a few years past that for our own Navali.
Speaker A
Now Navali, where would we find you as you are being attended by uh your former mentor?
Speaker A
Uh so if if I if I may actually this is this is quite this is quite a few years ago. Um it is the kind of rocky overgrown fields and mountains of Yakaved.
Speaker A
Um, and it is currently during the time after a high storm. So, the weeping, it's raining outside, it's dark, and the camera pans in on a small, slight, maybe a little borderline too skinny, uh, figure in patchwork, handme-down
Speaker A
clothing. um standing before uh essentially a funeral p. And you see a very young girl, maybe 10, 11, uh holding a scarf, a green scarf, and crying. though it's hard to tell because it's raining and there are ardents all around this tall uh
Speaker A
orphanage building that is run by the Ardentia in this town. And as the fire burns, her eyes look almost gold and you see memories flashing by. an elderly man standing over her while she's at a desk learning to read and write, reading books,
Speaker A
playing outside. And in every flash of memory and vision, this elderly man is present.
Speaker A
And then we're back to this funeral procession for Ardent Cure. Tithe for the doggo. Um, and You can see that she's conversing with the Ardent there, but eventually she goes inside um standing outside until pretty much everybody's gone until the last embers
Speaker A
burn out. Goes inside and Nali wakes up. in the hideout in Colonar and it's maybe four years ago and she doesn't have her scar yet.
Speaker A
So Navali awakes on this unfortunately very blustery day. Today is a day of illant.
Speaker A
You already know it. You were supposed to go out, collect tithes, protection money down in the theater ward on behalf ofQatar.
Speaker A
Well, a few bastards decided not to pay you. In fact, they embarrassed you, laughing you out of more than one place of business this week. Seems as if these little merchants got together and decided that they weren't going to be
Speaker A
toughed by the Dreer anymore. Not by this kids little band of They can storm off.
Speaker A
And when push came to shove, they wouldn't pay up. And now today specifically, Cutter was expecting his spheres and it's a high storm day.
Speaker A
So these merchants usually deliver Dunph spheres. Cutter would leave them out, get his storm light, and make a tidy little profit.
Speaker A
Now you need to go and face him with not a sphere to your name.
Speaker A
You've done this before and it doesn't go well. So, does Navali do anything to prepare for her chat with Cutter?
Speaker A
Uh, I think uh the important thing to note right now is Nev is a teenager at this point in time.
Speaker A
Uh, and I think I think prepare maybe in the same way she would to be sent out to collect the money anyway. So has her gear on her. Um, expecting to be sent out into the storm to figure it
Speaker A
out, [snorts] even though that's suicide practically. um especially for a small kid uh or a young teenager.
Speaker A
Um but she yeah just stays geared up just in case she has to leave or something else.
Speaker A
Uh and she'll go to the al cove where everybody meets and trains and all of those things. I actually think this is before even the network is recruited.
Speaker A
This is when you would be a a part of a network almost. You would have you're you you feel in in this day and age very much how some of those kids would feel like you're being taken in
Speaker A
and taken care of in, you know, maybe not a gentle way, but you're give you've been given something when no one's ever given you anything.
Speaker A
Nope. We haven't taken the chance to really flesh out and describe the the hideout.
Speaker A
The hideout is largely uh a very square cut central chamber with many smaller chambers leading off of it. for uh housing.
Speaker A
The central chamber contains pillars for structural security. Uh rounded very much uh looking almost like a if you think a sistern like a uh a sort of arched over central pillared huge area.
Speaker A
Tables have been set up in one section for lounging, planning. A training circle has been set up in another corner in order to practice things [music] like combat, acrobatics, etc.
Speaker A
One of the corners has set up a small uh a small acrobatics uh training area, a place where you can practice things like free running and hand your hand holds and practicing grip. And then the other corner uh being a small bar, a place
Speaker A
where [music] you can drink wine and where food stuffs are are prepared. It has the very Spartan necessities of really a thieves guild. Uh and today you would definitely assume that there would that the common area, this large
Speaker A
central chamber would be filled Uh because the high storm was going to be raging at some point during the day.
Speaker A
Uh the storm wardens had predicted that it's coming. They're usually off by the hour, but not the day. So you see a collection of of other uh teens that are around your age. Uh you see them all in their in their different
Speaker A
regalia, dark tones, uh blades strapped legs, uh uh fingerless gloves, uh uh storm hoods on, you know, for the for the rains that come before the the high storm, and you see cutter sitting at the bar.
Speaker A
Uh seems to be having a glass of uh of orange, just something very mild.
Speaker A
Starting the day. How does his body language look? Relaxed. You've seen this before. It's payday.
Speaker A
There's a lot of people that come and pay him right before a high storm because that's when they can turn their dun spheres into bright spheres. And that means uh more pay. You can trade it in for a ton of dungees or or vice
Speaker A
versa. And it'll, you know, it'll earn you a little bit of extra coin. that means, you know, so many different things for the economics of the of of the dreer of the of this network. Um, you you know, it's a high storm usually
Speaker A
means uh you know, you hunker down, nobody can work. You get to counter your your earnings, uh, plan for the next nights ahead, recharge spheres, and, uh, you know, the guards aren't going to come and bother you on high storm day.
Speaker A
That's not going to happen. It's chaos for many people up above, but for your little band, it's actually the most peaceful time because the hideout works as a storm shelter. Uh, it has easy access points for tying spheres up and then bringing
Speaker A
them down via rope. It's, you know, it's it's usually a good day. So, Cutter is seemingly relaxed and in decent spirits.
Speaker A
Uh knowing that there's really nowhere I can go to avoid him. Uh I will also walk up to the bar.
Speaker A
You walk up to the bar. Uh one of the the the quote unquote children, one of the teens is sitting behind and is uh washing a collection of things and uh they slide you a a glass of yellow. um
Speaker A
just a a nigh non-alcoholic uh uh hue of wine and Cutter looks over to you. He pauses uh what he was doing, which [music] was counting a glowing bag of spheres.
Speaker A
Oh, okay. Not all the spheres that were returned to him were done. It's a good payday.
Speaker A
He looks to you. Well, oh, I above table. I thought he already knew that he wasn't getting money from her today. Um, he understood knew that he wasn't getting money from you yesterday.
Speaker A
He hoped it would seem that you showed up with something. Well, um I Well, she just kind of like sags in her seat a little bit like, "No, I I don't have anything. His relaxed demeanor sharpens.
Speaker A
His face drops. That inscrable mask that he always wears. Keeps his eyes mostly obfuscated, but it is enough that he looks to you and you see disappointment dripping off of him.
Speaker A
What do you think happens if you keep failing? I don't get work anymore. Oh, it gets worse than that. You signed up for this.
Speaker A
You're beholden to something now. And I know a little storming layabout like you, spineless with no real grit or fortitude in your bones might not understand it.
Speaker A
But when you take on a task, when you take on a job for me, that means that the spheres that you're going to bring in are going to feed or going to pay off, are going to afford us the ability to
Speaker A
work. So, no, it's not just me cutting out a couple of jobs from you. You're letting down [music] everyone in this organization, including me. Not just me, but including me.
Speaker A
Do you hate me? No. Do you think that I'm not serious when I ask you to do something?
Speaker A
No. It's just these storming shopkeeps got together and decided they didn't want to pay.
Speaker A
Why didn't you make them pay me against five people? No, you have a lot to learn. It's not you against five people.
Speaker A
It's you against the silk merchants's young niece. It's you against the grain stores. You go and you poison that man's lavvice.
Speaker A
It's you meeting that drunk, happy, confident merchant outside of the bar that night. and you cut his Achilles and then he doesn't walk right anymore and he remembers and everyone around him remembers that you do not get skint
Speaker A
cutter but if you must know how to fight five people at once get up.
Speaker A
Uh, she kind of hesitates like, "Wait, what do you mean?" Cutter stands and he grabs you by the back of the neck and hauls you out of your chair. Get in that ring.
Speaker A
I'm going to teach you how to fight. Nev will walk over to the ring and you will notice she doesn't have a lot of weaponry on her. Just one knife. That's it.
Speaker A
Cutter stalks over into the middle of the ring. this about 15 foot across circular uh slightly raised platform. It's about 6 in off of the ground piled up with uh with creme um hardened into a sort of arena. So when someone gets knocked out
Speaker A
of it, they get knocked out of it. He goes and he stands in the middle.
Speaker A
He looks at you and he waits for you to get into the ring. Yeah, I'll I'll get into the ring.
Speaker A
thing that you need to remember when you're fighting multiple opponents is that they are going to think that you are unprepared for something like this.
Speaker A
So, all right. You're going to be one of five people. Draw your knife. She will do so, but you can tell she doesn't want to stab me.
Speaker A
What? Try to stab me. She uh she will run at him and try to stab him. You want me to roll?
Speaker A
Uh I would like you to roll. Yes. Okay. So, this would be a light weaponry roll.
Speaker A
Uh wow, that's actually really good. Uh 21 total. 21 total. Mhm. Nev hits leather, then flesh.
Speaker A
Cutter is going to use a reaction. Oh no. Cutter's reaction is to grab Nev's arm in one hand, take the knife that is in his flesh in the other, throw it out of the ring. He's used a disarm.
Speaker A
Cutter then kicks Nev. We'll see. Let's see if he hits. We should make sure. Uh, Nev's defensive is what? He has rolled a 14.
Speaker A
Uh, physical defense is 15. Is 15. Mhm. You feel the hit land and you feel danger. He hasn't dealt any damage, but he hit you in the kidney.
Speaker A
It doesn't feel good. And your knife is now outside the ring. I kind of stumbled back. Uh but not far.
Speaker A
Uh he has blades on him, right? Sure does. Uh I want to see if I can steal one from him.
Speaker A
Sure. Yeah. Uh we're going to ask for I think that would be You want me to have it be a thievery role? I would say it would be a thievery roll. Yeah.
Speaker A
Okay. Okay. Um, dirty 20. 16 + 4. 16 + 4. You have taken his knife, one of his blades, and he looks at you and you see the most disturbing grin.
Speaker A
That's it. Absolutely. Use everything that you can. Come at me. And he doesn't take an action.
Speaker A
Come at me. No, really. Stab me. Mean it. Uh, can she see that he's bleeding? Is he bleeding a lot?
Speaker A
He's not bleeding a lot. Uh, he he has blood coming from a torso wound. uh and doesn't seem too terribly worried about it. The the very horrifying thing to Nev, you don't see a single painsprint.
Speaker A
Uh I think, hold on. I I want to roll for this. I want to roll to see.
Speaker A
Yeah, I think um I think Nev uh she got the blade, but now it's like now what? And she's staring at the wound she caused him because uh it probably has been few and far in between that she's ever hurt someone
Speaker A
like that. You wait and in a blur of motion, Cutter charges at Nev. He draws a blade and he makes his attack in a wild panic.
Speaker A
Can you describe how Nev gets out of the way of his strike? Uh, she I think kind of lost herself in in Revery for a second because she was freaked out that she cut him. Up until now, she's only stolen and threatened
Speaker A
people for money. Uh, she's never had to hurt anyone yet. and she I think like startles and kind of like sidesteps him uh when he charges at her and she realizes, okay, this is not over yet.
Speaker A
Um, and I'm going to take a swipe at him. Okay. With his knife, that's not going to cut it. It's a total of eight.
Speaker A
Total of eight. Your swing goes so very wild. [music] And Cutter takes a simple very live step backwards and then immediately moves inward and he is going to raise the stakes and he is also going to use a planned I
Speaker A
can't remember exactly what it's called but he's going to he's going to use a focus in order to give himself advantage on this attack. You see the jovility has drained out of his face. You see that the playful nature
Speaker A
has gone away. And for the very first time in Nev's life, you feel killing intent. You feel the predatory nature of someone who outclasses you in martial combat. You see someone who is prepared and has killed before.
Speaker A
And that is a 22. Yeah, that hits plus uh it is not a an opportunity nor is it a complication, but he does actually get that up to 25.
Speaker A
Nev, you take a savage cut to the face. Ragged, tearing into delicate flesh, painspring, bubbling up out of the floor. These small grasping hands seemingly looking for sucker. and you feel the heat of blood drawing down off of your face
Speaker A
and he is going to take a second action. He strikes again with a natural 20.
Speaker A
This is not a strike that would be something to disable. This is not a strike that would be to end a fight with a fully cocked back backhand.
Speaker A
A closed fist strikes against Nev's other cheek. Bruising flesh and potentially cracking jawbone or cheekbone. You don't know yet. More painspr around cutter.
Speaker A
They are anger friend. Nev, what do you do? Uh, I think I think holding holding her her face.
Speaker A
um fighting for consciousness because he hit her pretty hard. I think you know how like when you're starting to pass out and you get like the black little dots on the edges of your vision.
Speaker A
Um she she gets that uh she um she kind of scrambles up to um she kind of she I don't even think she gets up on her feet. I think she just tries to like scramble away on all
Speaker A
fours just to get away from him, get under furniture, something, anything. Uh, she's retreating.
Speaker A
Cutter pounces on Nev. At this point, a collection of the other individuals that are in the network, this the current iteration of the network, have started to look and watch.
Speaker A
cutter pounces on you. He straddles his weight completely at top you. You thrash. You struggle.
Speaker A
And then he grabs your arm that has the knife [music] in it and he presses it and he against liver, heart, vertebrae, throat. And he starts pressing the knife with this vicelike grip on your wrist against all of these vital points on his
Speaker A
body and then with the knife to his throat, pressing hard enough that it draws a thin line of blood.
Speaker A
When you fight for the dreer and you fight for me, you fight to win or you die.
Speaker A
Because if you don't die for my money, you're going to die for something else.
Speaker A
And he lets go of your wrist with that blade still pressed against his neck as if he is daring you to cut him.
Speaker A
He doesn't. I think she's fading. Uh, she's starting to lose consciousness. And I think all she can think is This is what the world is like.
Speaker A
You feel Cutter's weight come off of you and then as you fade into unconsciousness, you see him turn to one of the other kids, throw a rag, and say, "Clean them up.
Speaker A
Do you feel like that is an appropriate place to zoom out? Okay, folks. It's about time for a human break. Uh we're going to take a quick 10 minutes.
Speaker A
Uh compose yourselves. Uh I know that was uh I know that was a little heavy.
Speaker A
Uh and then uh um when we come back uh we are going to uh take a peek.
Speaker A
It's going to be very light. It's going to be very light and very easy. It's an easy watch.
Speaker A
It is Barelar and his loving family at Six Flags, everybody. Uh that's [laughter] that's that that's what that's what this one is. Uh and and Berlar gets a free churro uh because he's just a happy fella and the the the
Speaker A
kiosk liked his vibes. We'll be back in 10 minutes. Um we will uh I uh let me give my spiel really quick. Tell your mom, tell your dad, tell your sister, brother. Uh tell your uh local produce uh manager. Tell your uh tell your mail
Speaker A
delivery clerk. tell uh tell your dog that I love them. Um we will we'll see you in 10 minutes. Um don't go anywhere.
Speaker A
Uh spread the word. We will see you super soon. Hi everybody. We are back. Did you tell your dog that we love them? Did you? I sure hope so because I do. Uh so we left off Nev in that
Speaker A
uh rather tragic little flashback, a window into exactly why they react to the people and the circumstances of the world that they are presented with. And we uh we're now going to zoom in on our good detective beer.
Speaker A
So there I guess the real question is exactly what is it that you feel as your perceptions fade away? What is it that triggers this this sort of trance state? What is the what is the body sense? What is the the sort of
Speaker A
spiritual pull? What is the circumstances surrounding this shifting of perception? Well, I think this one is um it's it's as simple as lying in bed and thinking about the day's events, thinking about how I could have maybe been nicer to
Speaker A
that older gentleman who walked in front of me in the middle of the road. could have been um you know thinking about thinking about uh the pretty girl who waved at me when I stopped in to pick up
Speaker A
some some silks for my mom. Um and yeah, laying in bed and just kind of that that moment in between where you're not sure if it's the running thoughts or the start of a dream.
Speaker A
And I think that's kind of the moment where everything slides into something else, something more vivid and more immediate than just a memory.
Speaker A
It feels kind of like walking through a street on the most foggy of mornings like a you know how sometimes the world outside is so full of moisture and the fog from in the morning has pushed in on all of the buildings, but it's
Speaker A
it's nice and dry and warm inside, but you need to leave the house. You open a door and the mists don't really dare push inside.
Speaker A
It's almost like they're waiting for you to walk out into them. I would like you to tell me what the room looks like that you walk into as you transfer past that misty threshold.
Speaker A
Well I'm inside uh some kind of rundown shop some somewhere. Not pleasant, a little dingy, a lot of creme caked on the walls. Um you know, none of the drawers move right.
Speaker A
Everything's a little sticky. Um, and it's nighttime. It's just twilight right now as I look out uh through through like between slats in like a like a wooden slatted window.
Speaker A
Um, and I look into uh like an alley, a side street that I don't recognize.
Speaker A
Uh, but I know that I'm somewhere where my parents would tell me not to go.
Speaker A
That's for sure. Like this is this is this is the part of town where I I'm not supposed to go. Not that me and Clim don't go wherever we feel like whenever we feel like it, but this is one of the
Speaker A
places where even even we know even against our better, you know, our our worst natures, we don't go to places like this.
Speaker A
Yeah. Um Yeah. Yeah. And as I I look out into the street, I kind of peer back and forth. Not sure why I'm here.
Speaker A
You feel drawn like someone has pulled you here for a purpose. There's a ringing in your ear.
Speaker A
Not like the trauma from a lifelong exposure to noises too loud. more like a sort of gentle tone, like a last final note from a beautiful symphony that just continues on and on and on. And you can hear it in the background.
Speaker A
And if you listen hard enough, it seems like as you twist and turn to the wefts and waves of this street gets louder as you look in certain directions.
Speaker A
There's a little bit of an oddity to this place. You recognize it as colonar.
Speaker A
You know that. It's the only place I've ever been. It's the only place I would know.
Speaker A
The streets are a little different here. You look and No, you you know you're on East Street, but you're like, "Where's Vindelar's Taylor?
Speaker A
Whereas Brock's cobbler, the businesses are different. Something's a little strange here. You see people on the street and that wasn't supposed to be closed. And then your perception shifts and it comes back to the to the town of
Speaker A
the day. But you know that it's the fourth day of the week and Brock's cobbler, it should be Brock working. His his his wife doesn't work on the fourth day of the week. She goes and picks up the leather that day, but
Speaker A
you see her standing there. There's just a bunch of odd little bits. You are a man of deduction. You're a man of of routine of of of pattern recognition.
Speaker A
And it [music] is taking everything in you not to feel like you've been dropped into a timeline that's just adjacent to the one that you are supposed to be in. But here you are.
Speaker A
So, as you listen to these tones, where do you go? Um, I guess I uh I do my best to to follow them to the the the best resonance, you know?
Speaker A
If I if I turn and it like shifts and it changes whichever tambber seems to be the right frequency, I guess I'll I'll follow that.
Speaker A
You follow, you follow and you follow going through the streets. Now we we in the present we all know what happened to Berar.
Speaker A
So the question that I have for you is where was your father killed? Um there was um he was only a few like a few cross a few crossroads away from uh what business is that? Um from the
Speaker A
shard swap. It's a a local business that [gasps] uh swaps out uh done you know done spheres for for fresh spheres.
Speaker A
Yeah, it's about two streets down from that. Um, Boredin is walking down the street. Uh, Bear's father, Boridan, is walking down the street.
Speaker A
Um, and I think right now I think in this moment Bear sees him. Um, and it's really really strange cuz he shouldn't be here now. Um, I think he he goes to talk to him.
Speaker A
Um, but yeah, so they're in kind of like the again it's more of the uh Oh, what what part of the what part of town is this? Can never remember the parts of Colon are so bad at maps.
Speaker A
The different districts. Yeah. Uh, Sades Street. Sades Street. Yeah. This sphere exchange is sort of known to be a little bit more rough and tumble.
Speaker A
You know, there's been rumors that sort of surround that the spheres that are given back are, you know, always quality, but they will they'll take and flog fakes, you know.
Speaker A
And your father has been coming here for some time because they give him the best exchange on on dun and you feel anxiety.
Speaker A
You see a few Fear spread bubble up around your father's feet as if he's worried about something.
Speaker A
Just a few though, not enough to, you know, somebody could get spooked and a couple of fierce friend pop up. that you go to talk to him, you want to say something to your dad and he just keeps walking. He ignores
Speaker A
what you say and he walks into that exchange. [snorts] I guess I guess I'll I'll wait for him to come out and I'll I mean, if he doesn't want to talk to me, I I guess it's probably for a good reason, so I'll
Speaker A
just follow him whenever he's done. Yeah. Yeah. So you wait and you wait and you wait.
Speaker A
And eventually he walks out. He keeps walking and you see him keep trotting down the street.
Speaker A
A few more fierce friend bubbling up at his feet. And then you see a man A few moments afterwards, walk out after him.
Speaker A
You follow him, correct? Uh, yeah. And you follow for probably about five minutes. And then you notice that it's been about five minutes in your perception, but then it's night and it doesn't feel right.
Speaker A
You see her father. He's looking about nervously. He's holding a sack tight to his chest.
Speaker A
It's a very dangerous part of town that you're in. You look around and it's strange. Why? Why is your father here?
Speaker A
You can't understand. You want to ask him? Yeah. He's just in front of you.
Speaker A
Um, Dad, Dad, try to speak and no words come and you see a shadow fall over your father.
Speaker A
And pale moonlight casts a silhouette on a figure all in black standing up on a rooftop just above.
Speaker A
And you sense this gutwrenching panic in your father and you feel it echo in yourself.
Speaker A
You've tailed more than enough people to know the signs. No one stands on the edge of a rooftop without ill intent.
Speaker A
You move a little closer and then you see this shadowed figure fall through the air and land with a thump on top of your father.
Speaker A
Your father is not a man of violence. Not a man of He's not a man of of toughness or or endurance or vigor any more than an average person.
Speaker A
Then you hear as this figure straddles your father Boredan, their mask slips, and they say they wanted me to give you a message, Boredin Gerard. And you hear your father's panicked voice.
Speaker A
I won't say anything. I have a family. I'll leave Alithar and disappear. I can I can pay you.
Speaker A
You know, son of honor, you are an agent of damnation. For the salvation of Alithkar and for all of Roshar, you must perish.
Speaker A
You see him draw a long knife and then plunge it deep into your father.
Speaker A
And with a twist, you see it dip into his heart. And then you wake up.
Speaker A
No. No. Oh, Dad. Dad. I get out of bed. Uh, I I I grab my face and I am sweating and weeping and No no no no no no.
Speaker A
You see your door thrown open. Uh, I I grabbed for something. a stick, a a ball, a a a rock, anything. Is there a You grab a uh you grab a sack full of of spheres. Uh kind of like a kind of like a blackjack,
Speaker A
and you see three figures. They stand in your doorway menacing you. And then you hear Bolar and you truly come out of the fugue and your father standing next to you that I saw him. I saw him. You're alive.
Speaker A
But I saw him kill you. You all right? I don't think so. I don't know. I just I Was you drinking again?
Speaker A
No. No, I wasn't drinking. Not at all. Put the spheres down, son. You're all right. You're all right.
Speaker A
Okay. Okay. Are you fine? Come on now. Okay. It was a bad dream. I don't know. It It felt more than a dream. I Yeah.
Speaker A
What's wrong kill you? You saw who kill me? I don't know. Nobody can kill your dad. Come on.
Speaker A
Biggest tough as ever was. No, you're not. Where's Did you piss the bed? No, I didn't. It's all sweat. I just sweated it. It was I was freaking out. I don't know. I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD.
Speaker A
WHAT IF I PISSED THE BED? Who cares? I didn't. But if I did, it'd be fine.
Speaker A
Yeah, you're probably right. All right. All right. Listen. Listen. It's going to be all right. It's just you's fine. You You're You're safe. I'm safe. Yeah. A bad dream. That's all it was. Eh, are you sure you Yeah. You scream and bloody murder.
Speaker A
You woke up your mom. Yeah. Sorry. Yeah. Mom. Bologonia's pissed. Miala, you're all right, boy. You're all right.
Speaker A
I'm always going to be here for you. When you wake up, when you go to bed, when you come home drunk, when you bring home somebody you shouldn't, when you eat too much cheese, I'm here. You're going to be all right.
Speaker A
Okay. Okay. Do you eat some bad chill meat? No. No, I'm I'm all right. Cuz I've had some bad dreams off a ch meat. I'll tell you how much right now. I think a Kremling got in a pot and I got stewed
Speaker A
up with it and then I'm eating I I crunch down on something. I think it was a Kremling.
Speaker A
Maybe rice. That's not good. No, it's not good. No, you won't get up. Maybe maybe you know have a cup of something hot and and and relax for a second.
Speaker A
Yeah, it's a good idea. Your mom's making pancakes. Oh, good. Okay. C can I roll an insight on Boridan?
Speaker A
Yeah, absolutely you can. [snorts] Uh 14. He is very deeply afraid of something. You see so very much the man that is putting a mask on.
Speaker A
You don't really understand what it could be, but he is deeply afraid of something and you can't imagine that it has anything to do with what you're going through. It that doesn't make any sense. But you sit and you're you're
Speaker A
you're trying to to come down from this horrible, you know, dream. I mean, I guess I'll sit and have something warm and wait for things to calm down a little bit, but then I'm going to look at him. And
Speaker A
I mean, Barelari is not exactly I mean, he's he he knows people and more than people, he knows his dad.
Speaker A
And so I think he's just going to look at him and say, "Um, father, what are you afraid of?" Nothing. What do you mean? Nothing, son.
Speaker A
I don't I'm not afraid of nothing. You got You ain't got to be worrying about me. You got work to do today.
Speaker A
You're sitting here. You You're putting You're projecting your your worries from that dream on to me. And you's got work to do today. Don't you have something going on with Clim?
Speaker A
Yeah. No, we got a we got a job. It's a good one, too. I'm looking at making like a whole 10 spheres today. So, if things go right, if they don't go right, I'm going to make nothing. But that's
Speaker A
the job. All right. Well, if you if you don't get out that door real quick like, then you ain't going to be back in time for supper. And then you know that your sister's going to be pissed and she's
Speaker A
going to be worrying and you're going to be the storming scapegoat for the food getting cold because you know they ain't going to eat without you. So, you worry about you. I'll worry about me and we'll just, you know, we're going to
Speaker A
let what comes come. I I ain't free. I ain't afraid of nothing. You ain't got to worry about me.
Speaker A
Okay. All right. Okay. All right. Claps you on the shoulder and he looks you in the eyes and you see these deep light swirling pools that are your father's eyes and says, "Hey, I love you.
Speaker A
Bad dreams, good dreams, good jobs, bad jobs. I'm always going to be here. You ain't going to worry about me. You worry about you.
Speaker A
Okay. All right. And from the from grabbing him on the shoulder, uh, Beardar, he might be half Althy, but he's also half Herdzian. And he pulls his dad into a huge hug.
Speaker A
Um, and Bear is taller than Boredin, but a lot lankier than him. Uh, and so he just like wraps his long arms around uh around his dad and hugs him tight. He goes, "Okay, I love you, too. Anyways, I
Speaker A
got stuff to do, so whatever. Bye. You go out and you make the best of your day and you trust your [music] father.
Speaker A
You let his words which have comforted you for your entire childhood try to stick true and you come home with a bag of spheres.
Speaker A
You're home early. Job got done quick. Your father does not come home that night.
Speaker A
Um, I uh I guess uh Bear would go looking for him if he doesn't come home by dark. That's really unlike him.
Speaker A
The next few weeks are actual torture for you. There is hope that your father is alive, but you never find him.
Speaker A
There is that ever echoing phrase that he was a creature of damnation which were some of the final words before he died.
Speaker A
You look for his body. You look for hope of where he could be. You look for the sons of honor. You look to the sphere exchange.
Speaker A
It was the last place he was seen. And it's been weeks. And then those weeks vanish into months.
Speaker A
You are sitting at home in the early morning light trying to having a drink in the morning like the whiskey in the coffee.
Speaker A
Yeah. You're drowning a little bit of your sorrows in this moment when you hear a distinct knock upon the door.
Speaker A
There's three men at the door. Two of them carrying trenchons and the [music] one in the middle, a lighteyed man. You recognize this is Rave.
Speaker A
Rave is one of the richest and most dangerous men in Alithcar. He is a broker. He is a loan agent. He is the holder of debts.
