02:20
Speaker A
Hello everyone. Welcome back. It's good to see you. It's been a minute. We took our season break, and now we are back for season 2 of The Last Ideal, our Cosmere RPG actual play set in the wondrous wind-bladed city of Kholinar.
02:46
Speaker A
We join our freshly minted Radiants as they have now made themselves busy being given a little bit of downtime between the prior conflict with that agent of Amaram.
03:17
Speaker A
They were given a 10-day break before needing to go and attend this ball at the palace where, apparently, the Lady Azure will be present, where she will be making her appearance.
03:42
Speaker A
This led to a few going out and starting to focus on preparation for this task, you know, information gathering, etc., etc.
03:53
Speaker A
Working on compartmentalizing some of the issues that had come up after that incredibly strenuous few weeks after first meeting, robbing the devotary of insight, meeting with the alleged Ghostblood's contact Tonovir.
04:18
Speaker A
And each person coming to their personal revelation and realization of the ideals of becoming Radiants, that being the Windrunner, Navali, the Elscaller, Feraniel, the Truthwatcher, Berdalar, and of course, the Lightweaver, Alstrom.
04:42
Speaker A
So tonight, to kick off our return to the game, we are going to zoom in.
04:57
Speaker A
We're going to take a look at exactly what our heroes have been up to in the past 10 days leading up to the ball.
05:06
Speaker A
First, we are going to be joining Alstrom. Now, Alstrom, where would we find you?
05:29
Speaker A
Hunched over a workbench downstairs in my workshop with that glove that Navali gave me half taken apart, trying to figure out how this thing works and what each part does.
05:48
Speaker A
Okay. Now, that will be a craft check. And I will ask you to roll that with raised stakes.
06:06
Speaker A
Okay. Oh, 21 with the plot die blank. Oh, okay.
06:26
Speaker A
The amount of times that you guys have rolled a blank on the plot die does definitely disappoint my storyteller heart. I don't care if it's a complication or an opportunity, I just want one.
06:36
Speaker A
So a 21, you're competent. Alstrom is, I mean to be blunt, a genius when it comes to the art of Abjuration arts.
06:50
Speaker A
You start taking apart and tinkering with this glove, this gem-inset glove device, the one that has the struts that lead up. The color of the actual gauntlet itself is silvery gray. The steel supports that are layered over the leather glove itself sort of all terminate at the palm where the actual gem is.
07:14
Speaker A
That seems to fuel this contraption. The struts go up either side of the forearm and lead up to a clamping supporting brace at the elbow, actually cupping the elbow.
07:24
Speaker A
And you're working on it. You try to see exactly what kind of spren is in it, and it seems like it's very reminiscent of the same sort of spren that are captured inside of spren reeds.
07:44
Speaker A
But there's something pretty drastically different here. You're taking it apart very delicately, examining the gemstone more than anything else.
07:57
Speaker A
And you notice that the sort of not intensely dim glow, but the dim glow of this gem has not faded over the several days that you have had it,
08:14
Speaker A
which is very strange to you. You've heard of, very, very well-cut gemstones holding on to their stormlight for long periods of time, but this one must be a make and design that is above and beyond what you've seen in the past.
08:28
Speaker A
It's lost none of its stormlight in the time that you have held on to it.
08:41
Speaker A
You've looked for activating mechanisms throughout it, switches, etc., etc.
08:49
Speaker A
And it comes right down to one of the most simple mechanisms that you can possibly think of. When you make a fist with this gauntlet and the gemstone is there, when you cover it with the metallic components of the actual glove itself,
08:57
Speaker A
there's a rather hysterical mishap that happens in the basement of your shop.
09:13
Speaker A
As you place the gauntlet, you're not so silly as to wear it yourself while you're activating it.
09:24
Speaker A
You simply curl the fingers down while it sits on top of like a tripod. And you curl one finger down, then another, then another, then another, and then eventually you curl the thumb and create almost a cocoon of metal around this gemstone.
09:34
Speaker A
And you hear a very distinct click and then almost a whir as the gem rattles inside of the housing of the palm of the gem of the glove.
09:47
Speaker A
And then the glove shoots across the room. And it is a bit of crumpled metal at the side of the room along the struts that, you know, the non-necessary metallic components that make up the contraption are pretty bent out of shape, a little crumpled.
10:02
Speaker A
They're looking worse for wear.
10:23
Speaker A
This glove has something to do with gravity, with suspension, with force. You're not entirely sure, but you know at least one thing: when you clamp your hand down over the gemstone and activate this glove, it'll shoot itself at least backwards.
10:33
Speaker A
With the amount of force that you perceive this glove producing, it's very likely that this could lift a man.
10:50
Speaker A
I go over and pick it up and I'm like, Nav is not going to be happy. I'm going to have to put this back together.
11:07
Speaker A
But wow, that was Wave. Did you see that? That was pretty crazy. I was not expecting that, but what kind of brand would do something like that?
11:18
Speaker A
Wind's brand. Really? Strong one.
11:30
Speaker A
And before I try to repair it, I want to copy down, like make a schematic of the housing part where the gem is.
12:00
Speaker A
Yeah, for sure. So I can try and recreate it.
12:05
Speaker A
You get down a rough schematic.
12:20
Speaker A
You think that you could recreate it. The problem that you're going to run into is fabricating the parts that are going to be necessary for this contraption.
12:33
Speaker A
A bunch of very delicate parts and incredibly strong and light metals.
12:46
Speaker A
The steel of the design is of a consistency, a strength, and a lightness that you aren't super familiar with.
13:02
Speaker A
The delicate parts that actually lock the hands into place when all of the fingers are together are insanely articulate and very, very well machined.
13:14
Speaker A
You're not totally sure how to get there yet. You think that you could, like, you're looking at all the prerequisite parts. You're like, "Yeah, absolutely. I could have all of these things made. This all makes perfect sense."
13:36
Speaker A
In your head, looking at it, it's very much like any other fabrial. It's just the requisite components are intricate on a level that you aren't sure that you could recreate yet.
13:56
Speaker A
Well, that's a good thing we have a bunch of time, huh, Wave?
14:11
Speaker A
Let's get cracking. Why not try it? You want me to try this? You could wear it.
14:27
Speaker A
Are you playing a joke on me, Navali? Now you can fly. You're going to need to keep up.
14:34
Speaker A
Yeah, you have a point.
14:55
Speaker A
And I'll stir. Can I put the glove on and try and use it?
15:04
Speaker A
It's rather beat up at the moment. You know, the supports might not be as good as they would be after a quick fix, but like, yeah, you could put it on and try it. Sure.
15:14
Speaker A
Yeah, let me try it now.
15:26
Speaker A
Uh walks down uh sees the glove. So, what's this? What am I looking at?
15:34
Speaker A
And what was that noise? Um Here, let let me show you and I try to do it really slowly and with low pressure so I only move a little bit and do not fly across the room.
15:50
Speaker A
Sure. So, uh you start bringing your fingers in very slowly. Very, very slowly. And there is a very distinct gut-wrenching moment where you realize rather starkly that this is not a oh, a dial, you know, that goes from 1 to 10.
16:18
Speaker A
This is an on switch and an off switch. [laughter] And you you you definitely shoot backwards across the room slamming into the slamming into the wall. Were this a combat or a dangerous situation, I would I would ask you to
16:40
Speaker A
take a bit of damage. You feel Absolutely. that your ribs are likely going to be bruised, your you know, your you're going to have a little bit of a headache where your head cracked against the the the the door.
16:55
Speaker A
You know, you left a crack down the center of the door. There's an Alstrom shaped dent in it.
17:01
Speaker A
Wave Wave looks at you and says [laughter] You did it. You did it. I knew you were messing with me, but besides the point Alstrom, can you help me Alshire walks over with a gape and just says, "I don't I shouldn't Why am I
17:23
Speaker A
surprised? Why am I surprised by anything anymore? None of this should shock me." Grabs your hand, pulls you up to your feet.
17:31
Speaker A
What is this? Um uh my friend uh Nev gave it to me. She She um uh acquired it from her uncle.
17:47
Speaker A
Um and I was just trying to figure out what it does. Um Nev has an uncle?
17:53
Speaker A
And Yeah. She seems like more more incredulous to that than like the giving of the glove.
18:05
Speaker A
Yeah. Do you seen all the Why would she not have family? If that urchin has a loving family, I am a troll cart.
18:17
Speaker A
What Why who said anything about a loving family? Uncles can be I'm not going to try to read into this.
18:29
Speaker A
I'm just fairly certain that you're uh full of crap right now, Alstrom. So, Nev gave you this glove and it flings things across the room. That's what it does. That's the whole purpose of it.
18:40
Speaker A
Yeah. Okay. Mhm. Yeah. Yeah, but like you could maybe go upwards and like fly or something.
18:49
Speaker A
That'd be good. Sure. Or uh She's looking at you like you are insane. So, you want to fly? You want to use a glove to fly?
18:58
Speaker A
Yeah. I mean, not me. I mean, maybe, but like I could copy this. Do you know how much money this would go for?
19:06
Speaker A
How much would you pay for somebody like something like this? think that we're poor?
19:13
Speaker A
N- No. No. No. We don't need you to have these a million dollar schemes, Alstrom. If this is something that you think can help Colonar, then fantastic. I'm all for it. We came here to create. That's fine.
19:35
Speaker A
Every time you invent something new and fantastic and these wonderful things and you learn these deep amazing secrets about yourself and you make friends with geometry. I you just you do it in the craziest ways possible. You decide to shoot off at
19:59
Speaker A
my basement is made out of the most precious metal on the planet and now there's a hole in my door and you're inviting thieves to the house and all of these things. It's just the way you're doing it, not what you're doing.
20:17
Speaker A
Do you understand? Yeah. Yeah. I see where you're coming from. Is there not like a Is there not like a like a testing ground that you could go to? Like doesn't Nav have a big cave somewhere that they live in?
20:36
Speaker A
A big thief cave somewhere they thieves live in caves, pirates live in caves. You know?
20:41
Speaker A
What? They do. It's I've read about it. Oh, so because it was in one of the one of your fantasy books then it's means that's true?
20:52
Speaker A
Uh, it was historical fiction and yes. That's not Where do you think there are where Okay, you go read the radical rapscallions of the Rusty Isles and tell me to my face that that's not an actual event that could have happened. You tell
21:19
Speaker A
me. Okay, I will. I will, but in the meantime, I do not know what A cave? Okay.
21:32
Speaker A
Um, but you do have a point. Maybe I shouldn't be testing things like this in a small room.
21:44
Speaker A
Just telling you. You know. Do you Do you have a minute? I need to talk to you about something.
22:00
Speaker A
Yeah. Of course. You're going to want to sit down. I Yeah, all right. I'll sit in your aluminum chair. Uh, okay, yeah, for sure.
22:19
Speaker A
He starts like pacing back and forth for a moment. I didn't tell you the whole truth about what happened at the Devoterie.
22:42
Speaker A
At the what? The the robbery that happened a couple weeks ago. Ah. Okay. I was a part of it.
23:16
Speaker A
[gasps] And I wanted to keep you out of it until I knew we were safe.
23:25
Speaker A
And I believe now that we're safe. Because you have magic powers. No, because I dealt with that buffoon guard captain that was trying to With your magic powers, yes. I'm aware.
23:46
Speaker A
Yes. No, I didn't use I just yelled at him actually. Okay, well, regardless. I'm glad you're coming clean about the very obvious inclusion of you in the events that happened at the robbery at the Depository of Insight. Um, you What
24:04
Speaker A
did you What did you take? Um, we took an old book. Um A book?
24:15
Speaker A
Mhm. Like a It was really just to like prove that we can No, no, no, no, no. That's not the right thing.
24:24
Speaker A
I never found We found a buyer for the creme real that I made, but they wanted proof that it worked.
24:42
Speaker A
And I was stupid and said, "I bet I could break into the building without anybody knowing." Okay.
24:57
Speaker A
So, looking at the camera, roll for deception. Once again. Do we raise the stakes for this one?
25:21
Speaker A
Do you want to? I wasn't going to. It's always up to you. Well, it's not always up to you, but you can always at your of your own accord raise the stakes.
25:30
Speaker A
Yeah, I think so. I think so. Okay. Oh, is that What is that? No. Okay.
25:41
Speaker A
It's a 21 with um a complication. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It would be a Yes.
25:54
Speaker A
Yeah, cuz it's a four. So, That's a complication. Yep. Yeah. You also add the four.
25:59
Speaker A
Yeah, yeah. So, it's a Perfect. Perfect. Yeah. a 21 total with with a complication.
26:03
Speaker A
Tremendous. Tremendous. [gasps] [sighs] Alshire looks at you and just exhausted. Just just exhausted. Okay.
26:18
Speaker A
Alstrom okay. You were going to sell the cremreal. And it's it it was and you had to prove it and Nev wasn't involved in that at whatsoever and And you read this look on your sister's face of it's passing from
26:50
Speaker A
her very much like wanting to be invested and like trying to pry for the truth to like accepting the fact that you may or may not be lying to her.
27:01
Speaker A
And that she may or may not be able to trust you. I I just want you to know I don't hate Neve.
27:16
Speaker A
And it seems like every time that you bring them up that you try to deflect the conversation.
27:24
Speaker A
I don't like Bardolar. But that's more because he's Well, he has that way about him, you know?
27:38
Speaker A
No, I don't know. What? It's It's a He She like thinks for a second and like scratches at her nose and He has He tries to act intense and he just he's not. He's just not as as deep and
27:57
Speaker A
intense as he likes to think that he is. Uh Why are you paying attention to him so much?
28:04
Speaker A
Because he came into my house. And he's a light-eyed detective. Mhm. Don't mhm. Do not mhm. Don't do that.
28:19
Speaker A
Don't do that. I will certainly mhm. I'm I'm getting I'm sick and tired of your accusations when you're the one that robbed the religious order that operates this city.
28:30
Speaker A
And then as if in the most perfect timing in the world, you hear that knock knock knock knock knock on the door upstairs.
28:39
Speaker A
Oh, You going to go get the door? Yeah. Yeah. I'll go get the door. Take off the glove or with the gloves off first. Yeah, yeah.
28:50
Speaker A
Yeah, yeah, for sure. [snorts] You walk upstairs, you open up the door, and inside that door, you see three children.
29:02
Speaker A
Well, two Well, one child, two teens. Uh there's one fam. Uh there's a a very young lad uh and another uh sort of wavy- fish um young man. Each of them in various states of uh of sort of like, you know,
29:22
Speaker A
dirty uh grubby ragamuffin uh attire as well as, you know, demeanor. Um And they're looking at you. Uh the oldest one uh steps forward uh and sort of, you know, the the the the young one is sort of like, you know, looking out
29:39
Speaker A
from behind the the the oldest's uh coat. You're Alstrom, right? Uh yeah. Um Did somebody send you?
30:00
Speaker A
Yes. Okay. What What's your name? Uh my name is your new employee. Oh, yes, yes, yes. Okay, come on in.
30:18
Speaker A
Come on in. Come on in. Why didn't you just say that right away? Because you were standing in the door.
30:25
Speaker A
Oh. I I I needed to be a lot from Nev, huh? Good. Don't say that name out loud.
30:35
Speaker A
Why? Cuz and that's Nev the knife to you. What? Who? Hero of the streets, all right? Put some respect on it.
30:49
Speaker A
Yes, I was there. I saw it. Yeah, a likely story. I you're some tinkerer right?
30:56
Speaker A
Yeah. Mhm. Okay. I'm a tinkerer who's going to throw you some skills and give you food and a bed to sleep in.
31:05
Speaker A
It's the least you can do. If I'm not mistaken, Nev Nev Nev saved you. I'm I'm an adult. I'm 16.
31:19
Speaker A
Uh yeah. The youngest one sits down at the table uh as well as the the the fam.
31:26
Speaker A
And the uh the kid says, "I'm 10." And why did Nev send the three of you?
31:45
Speaker A
Well Like what uh skills do you have that like will lend it yourself to us?
31:50
Speaker A
Well, I'm the smartest. And uh so Nev sent me. I'm also really uh I'm I'm actually pretty phenomenal at math.
32:03
Speaker A
Uh so Okay. you know, I learned my mathematics um you know, where I could.
32:12
Speaker A
And uh this one here, and he points, this is uh Tilav. Um Mhm. Tilav is a young uh Vaeden uh horn-eater blooded uh lass.
32:27
Speaker A
Um She pulls a pouch from in her side bag and puts it out on the table. and it's just a plethora of homemade tools, rough and sturdy blacksmithing implements, little cogwork tinkering tools, little little tiny screwdrivers, a plethora of of little
32:56
Speaker A
little wrenches and and gears, springs are sort of like tucked inside of this leather roll-out pouch.
33:04
Speaker A
Wait, you made this? Yeah, I'm a I'm a I'm a fabricator. I have a little I've got a little, you know, a little forge that I had down in the in the networks [music] cell, and um Yeah, I I I make my own tools. I make I
33:21
Speaker A
make my own tools. I fix I fix the weapons, you know, I I've I've crafted enough daggers to, you know, probably supply the entire underground of uh Kholinar sometime. I Yeah, that's that's me.
33:35
Speaker A
I'll say They're cool. So, you gave Nav the knives? That's awesome. I've made a few of the knives' knives.
33:41
Speaker A
Yes. I've knifed before. Um and Kirav uh says uh Well, my name's Kirav. Uh and I am usually the plan guy.
34:02
Speaker A
I come up with all the plans of where to go and how to get to places in Kholinar, all over Lighteyes and Darkeyes, and also the merchants, and we're talking about big-time movers and shakers in this big old city.
34:22
Speaker A
I I know all the spots. I I know all the places and how to get there.
34:28
Speaker A
I got maps. I've drawn a lot of my own maps. And And you're like a delivery service. This is amazing.
34:36
Speaker A
Uh Veneran looks to you and says, "We're not your delivery boys." Yeah, no. That's not happening. We're here to learn.
34:43
Speaker A
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Nev said that you are a piss-poor teacher. Uh but we we should be able to learn.
34:53
Speaker A
Yeah. Yeah. We're going to have lots of fun. Okay. You know how to fight?
35:01
Speaker A
like Do I know how to fight? Do you know how to fight? I What does that Yeah.
35:09
Speaker A
Yeah? What do you mean? Are you sure? Are you sure? Well, I know how to fight.
35:15
Speaker A
Yeah. I'm just making sure she didn't send us to, you know, some chill-brained, cream-sucking, lily-livered nobody. You know what I mean? Like, if you're going to be a part if Listen, if you're going to be a part of the network, if you're going to be
35:29
Speaker A
one of us, there's always a barrier to entry, big man. You're You might have to get jumped in.
35:40
Speaker A
That's all I'm saying. I hope you can fight. Um can I I want to light weave an illusion, but I'm not sure what I want to be.
36:23
Speaker A
Okay. just like a start make make a copy of myself? Yeah. oh my gosh, yeah, for sure.
36:30
Speaker A
And just just to like kind of intimidate him a little bit and says What?
36:44
Speaker A
You're going to jump me for an initiation in my own house? Uh Karov looks to the second one of you and just like big doe-eyed wonder.
36:58
Speaker A
Uh Talav looks and uh you see uh gears turning in their head, a little bit of wonder on their face. They're like "Oh." Okay.
37:12
Speaker A
Uh and then Van uh upon the questioning of whether or not he was going to attack you in his house, goes to punch you in the balls uh and misses completely striking the clone.
37:26
Speaker A
Um Mhm. Mhm. Mhm. Absolutely. Uh and he says, "Hm. Okay. I see. I see how it is.
37:37
Speaker A
Clever. Very clever. Can you teach me how to do that?" And you hear like a lot of like the grit come out of his voice and he like very clearly is super impressed.
38:07
Speaker A
When you're ready, I can show you, but this is not something anyone and everyone can just do.
38:16
Speaker A
Well, I'm the lead protege of Nev the Knife. I'm not anyone and I'm not everyone, okay? So, I'm ready now.
38:34
Speaker A
Put a hand on his shoulder. You are much too skinny. You need some meat on your bones. Come on, let us have lunch first. Sandwich time.
38:45
Speaker A
Says, he looks to you and he says, "Of course, I love a good sandwich. Please, for the love of the almighty, the tranquil tranquil halls above, wherever and whatever I need to pray to, wash your hands.
39:01
Speaker A
Those are disgusting." See, I knew you would learn quick. [laughter] Okay. Uh we're going to zoom out from Alstrom.
39:12
Speaker A
Uh and that felt canon. That [laughter] the nod felt canon. Uh okay. Um Oh okay.
39:26
Speaker A
So next. Here's the question. We are going to zoom in on Fira. So Firanial here's the question. You hit me with some some pretty some pretty deep down times. Uh my question is, because of the conduct of what is what
39:50
Speaker A
was within them, where are we going to find you uh throughout this this 10-day? Where would we where would we be we be able to to zoom in on you?
40:00
Speaker A
She's almost spending all of her time um in the barracks and quarters and outwork. So, and I think the first thing she wants to do is this this book has been feeling like it's burning a hole in her pocket. Um
40:15
Speaker A
that the sun maker book. So, Yeah. She She wants that gone. That's like a loose thread that she's not comfortable with.
40:26
Speaker A
So, we enter in at the barracks. Uh, specifically just outside of Captain Tiriel's uh office.
40:37
Speaker A
You have this book. It's burning a hole in your pocket. Uh, and [music] you see that closed door sitting ahead of you that sort of the the understanding that this is finally going to to be a weight off of your
40:50
Speaker A
shoulders. It feels like you haven't been able to take any [music] weight off of your shoulders for the better part of the month that you're you've all been together uh, at this point and Tiriel has has been, you know, if nothing else
41:03
Speaker A
consistent [music] uh, the whole time that you've known him. So, what do you do?
41:11
Speaker A
Yeah. Just Just going to knock for professionally. She's She's not nervous. She's not scared.
41:17
Speaker A
She's just She wants this gone. Out of her pocket. Okay. Uh, a few gentle knocks uh, [music] and you hear that gruff sort of coming.
41:33
Speaker A
I step in. Make sure she closes the door behind her and also like takes a peek to make sure there's nobody like within distance to like snoop on the door after she closes it behind her.
41:46
Speaker A
Uh, in a rather obvious fashion, Tiriel's daughter is sort of snooping around the outside. It seems that you can't really move around the barracks these days without this this this little Nardwell uh, following roughly your every move. She doesn't follow you
42:03
Speaker A
everywhere in the city. She doesn't go and and, you know, uh, trail you to the most inconvenient places. She you you gave her a pretty stern talking to that, you know things have to take time etc.
42:14
Speaker A
etc. But she does she does try to surreptitiously track you throughout the barracks. So she's sort of nearby.
42:27
Speaker A
I close the door and I see her. I'm just going to give her just like a glare.
42:32
Speaker A
Okay. For sure she she like looks at you she and then like [laughter] scuttles. You know like literally burning out a little bit of leather on the stonework and then just scoops the hell away.
42:45
Speaker A
Um It's a sort of comforting sight to see Tiriel there. He's got glasses on. He's looking at you know a lot of the different like glyph reports from the different lieutenants that you know serve underneath him. He's got a span read
43:09
Speaker A
and you know [music] there's an attendant within the room which he ushers out rather rather quickly and then says "Feronial It's it's good to see you.
43:21
Speaker A
Um I see you're in uniform. Is this formal? Yes, sir. Yes sir. Uh I'm just here to report.
43:31
Speaker A
She's going to reach in her bag. Covered intact, Captain. And pass over that book.
43:39
Speaker A
As requested and I took care to avoid any damage on it. Oh. Well, by by the almighty I thank I thank you.
43:49
Speaker A
Uh will they uh may not attack my throat next time that I go to the devildairy.
44:03
Speaker A
I trust no one else knew that this was mine. No. Though I do assume that you'll return it before they notice it's gone. Any any upcoming audits?
44:20
Speaker A
Well, it should be all right. I was actually able to have some rapport with uh the librarian.
44:34
Speaker A
Willeya? Uh Willeya. Mhm. Uh She might She might even be open to uh speaking with me a bit about some of the more religious beliefs.
44:51
Speaker A
Are you Are you really considering that I and her are on horrendous terms? Oh, I I did Sorry. I did hear that, sir. Um She's going to almost speak out of turn and then uh reel herself back in.
45:09
Speaker A
So, did she ask about me? She had some choice things to say. Um but I I was also at the same time inquiring some things that that I was wondering about, some contradictions in the texts. And so, although she started by
45:39
Speaker A
saying some not very nice things, um I think we ended up in a in a talk of philosophy, really.
45:49
Speaker A
Well, Willeya is deeply heretical. As the the keeper of texts at the uh you know, of the devotary of insight, it is her want to hold whatever beliefs she wishes. I I can't believe she's still mad at me.
46:14
Speaker A
Huh. She seems to really care about order and discipline and the things that fall under her control and her domain.
46:28
Speaker A
Right. Right. So, I I have a question a few questions for you. Yes, sir.
46:40
Speaker A
You've You've been rather absent lately. Yes, sir. What would be the cause for that?
46:53
Speaker A
I was worried a bit about my family. Um, I had heard reports of things happening back back home in Yakovad.
47:03
Speaker A
Um, so I took some time to reach out to them. And then honestly, I've been really focused uh on that conversation I had at the devotary and diving into my studies a bit more than usual.
47:22
Speaker A
All right. I understand. What is this that I hear that you've been seen with hm Well, uh Nav the Knife and that Naredwal Berdlar.
47:49
Speaker A
Hm. You've been seen at the Spark Flecker. Right? Nav Evally is a wayward soul.
48:01
Speaker A
I just I believe [music] that there's there's good in her. And just trying to help her find the right path.
48:12
Speaker A
And Ferdilar, I happened to run into uh on my [music] on your mission to the Devatary.
48:22
Speaker A
And I just found that his his line of questioning uh on things going on in the city was quite interesting.
48:34
Speaker A
He told me to keep my ears open. Can I get you to roll a deception, please?
48:41
Speaker A
Yeah, I was like this whole time, yeah. [laughter] So my family, yeah. To be fair, they're all based in like some truth.
48:49
Speaker A
Yeah, I'm glad that a half lie [laughter] is is being told. Yeah. 21. 21. Okay.
48:59
Speaker A
Yeah. You're all right. Uh so there's one [music] there's one last thing. Yes. Did Vakaren come and see you?
49:20
Speaker A
I [music] I just heard off guard. Can I get anything about the way he asked that?
49:31
Speaker A
Uh yeah, throw me an insight. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah, please. This is going to determine [music] if she tells the truth or not.
49:42
Speaker A
Seven. A seven. All right. Terrible. [laughter] What a What a range. He uh he seems to be asking out of genuine curiosity. And if he has an ulterior motive to it, you are uncertain.
49:57
Speaker A
Mhm. I think she realizes she's caught in the way that she hesitates. And so she decides to just go with the truth and be like, he [snorts] did make an appearance during the high storm and I frankly, I don't know still what he
50:16
Speaker A
wanted. I was not open to talking with him. I'm sorry. I should have reported that right away.
50:31
Speaker A
I I I understand that it's a sensitive topic. I I only ask because I know the two of you were close.
50:43
Speaker A
And he was allegedly spotted within the city. I just could not imagine him being here and not at least opening up a communication with you. I I was unsure that he was alive, if I'm honest.
51:04
Speaker A
As was I. What did he say? He said he wanted to talk and he said he was following a new path and I was not fully willing to hear him out after what he did and his betrayal.
51:34
Speaker A
Do you think that he's working with the Voidbringers? I don't think I can I don't think I I know.
51:46
Speaker A
He betrayed all of us. He went went missing. All right. I did ask uh but he was not willing to share Right. Right.
51:59
Speaker A
was working with. All right. All right. It's It's unfortunate. It's upsetting. I thought that we were rid of him.
52:11
Speaker A
Uh but it would appear not. Well, I suppose continue on. Thank you for bringing me this.
52:22
Speaker A
There is one more thing, sir. Um Please. You did You did mention [music] should I be successful on this private [music] mission uh that we would make have an arrangement for Tira.
52:41
Speaker A
Yes. Well, And you see that he like clearly was not expecting you to actually be able to pull this off.
52:52
Speaker A
Uh all right. Well, it's My daughter is capricious capricious. She is gregarious and she is likely the most chill headed young lady I have ever had the displeasure of having to [music] raise.
53:11
Speaker A
But she is my daughter and she is fiercely intelligent and she wishes And he like pauses and looks She wishes to learn the blade.
53:23
Speaker A
So, I said that I would give you a space. I The best I can do is make an arrangement so that you can stay somewhere off barracks.
53:39
Speaker A
I can call it a special assignment Considering the rise of danger with within the outskirts of Colinar, that your logistics skills cannot be tied to this barracks, and I can afford you an apartment.
53:56
Speaker A
And she can attend you there three times a week. And learn and hopefully temper herself.
54:08
Speaker A
Yeah. I'll be sure to prepare a structured regimen. It does take discipline, and if she's to learn, she will learn correctly.
54:24
Speaker A
How did you learn the blade? I watched. I observed. [snorts] I practiced. And how good are you?
54:42
Speaker A
Truly. Suppose I haven't really gotten a chance to test that. All too much. Sir.
54:54
Speaker A
Well, to ensure that my daughter is going to be in the right hands, and that the tutelage will be taken care of by someone who is truly skilled and ready to teach this craft, I will come to this apartment myself.
55:13
Speaker A
And I will test your skill in the blade, and then we will find out if you are ready.
55:23
Speaker A
Yes, sir. That that would be amenable. Right. Okay. Well, I am signing up my daughter for sword lessons, and [music] I will be returning this book that I have read.
55:39
Speaker A
Discipline lessons. Right, she'll see it a little different, but I appreciate the way that you're spinning it.
55:48
Speaker A
I'm sure she will come screaming back home each night trying to show me her cool sword moves.
55:56
Speaker A
So. All right. Is there anything else for Annel? I will have an attendant I will I will have someone come and give you the address and the keys and everything in short order.
56:17
Speaker A
No, sir. Other than I was wondering if there was any extra shifts or patrols I could pick up.
56:27
Speaker A
Patrols? I mean, I can give you further logistical duty you know, troop movements don't write themselves.
56:38
Speaker A
If you'd like to burn that candle at both ends, feel more than welcome. I can deliver to you as as many assignments as you wish. Truly, whatever you think you can handle. I don't want you burning yourself out
56:51
Speaker A
though. Mhm. I'm sure you were going to have your hands full. Looking to gain more experience.
57:04
Speaker A
Are you looking for field experience? You know, I can't really give that to you.
57:14
Speaker A
She pauses again. Um Yes. I know that, sir. Um but I do hope to get as much experience I can outside the field.
57:28
Speaker A
Right. Well, then yes, I'll give you as many assignments as I possibly can. He gives you like this very inscrutable gaze for a moment. Just kind of blanking and and and staring almost through you.
57:56
Speaker A
You know I heard you were present when the devotary was robbed. What do you know about that?
58:12
Speaker A
I read the report. I saw flames. Just so [music] happens to be the same day I was on our assignment.
58:26
Speaker A
Mhm. Rumor has it that Thailen man and Nev the knife and Beredelaur were all present that day.
58:46
Speaker A
At that place. I can account for for Beredelaur. I did Right. Run into him while I was there.
58:55
Speaker A
What does he know about it? I'm not sure, but he was speaking about some Sons of Honor and some robberies that have been happening.
59:12
Speaker A
That's what That's honestly what I was finding interesting in what he was talking about. Uh It's a little odd.
59:23
Speaker A
My uh my colleague an agent of uh uh General Amaram has gone missing within the city.
59:37
Speaker A
Past couple of days. Need an investigator? No. But, the rumor mill down in the market square has been circulating some strange things.
60:09
Speaker A
Truth, I haven't heard some of these rumors yet, sir. I'm sure you've been busy.
60:17
Speaker A
I would I would do exactly what you are doing. Young Froniel, I would I would bury your head in work and perhaps uh [snorts] improve your company going forward.
60:38
Speaker A
Do you not believe that the lost deserve to be found? Yeah, I believe that that is a a job for the Ardens.
60:47
Speaker A
I am not so headstrong as to say that my lot in life, that my grand design that will take me to the tranquil halls [music] is converting the unfaithful.
60:57
Speaker A
I believe that there are others. But, if you insist on trying to be cohorts with and confidants for these individuals, I would be careful.
61:23
Speaker A
I will be cautious about the company I keep moving forward, sir. Right. Well, you have my best. Thank you for bringing back the book.
61:43
Speaker A
Thank you, sir. Um she's going to bow and walk out, but I also want to roll and say it again on him if he was like insinuating that he knew I actually had a role in it.
62:01
Speaker A
Jeez, why? [laughter] Kind of That's a four. That's nothing. Yep. Okay. Oop. Woof. I think this is a great time to showcase something that that can be can be done within the rule set of the Cosmere RPG very specifically.
62:23
Speaker A
If you can imagine a skill or an expertise or [music] a grander reason why you would be granted advantage on a roll, you could absolutely uh advocate um for the use of those things.
62:41
Speaker A
Now, you have essentially scrutinized inscrutable guard captains [music] in the Kholinar military infrastructure for years at this point.
62:56
Speaker A
You've also specifically worked under Teir Il in the past. So, I would say that you should have had advantage on that roll.
63:07
Speaker A
I'll petition for it in this in this instance. That's a 14, so better. Okay.
63:23
Speaker A
Fura second-guessing herself is a bit of a pattern. It's too many coincidences. Tyrael is a rather well-connected individual within within the [music] city. He isn't the most well-connected, but when it comes to his own rank and file, you know him to keep a very close tabs
63:53
Speaker A
on those individuals and listen for rumors and hear the common people. He is not the high and mighty officer of the line that would simply, you know, stick to his business and and order around troops all day.
64:08
Speaker A
This man, he knows something. How much is hard to tell. He's [music] being rather cagey about it, but he knows something.
64:20
Speaker A
Yeah. She knew going in that this was a risky conversation to have, but she also knew that this he asked her to do something illegal, so she has some leverage on him the same time.
64:36
Speaker A
But I think right when she leaves though, uh like down the hall, she's going to like breathe for the first time like a full breath, not realizing she was holding her breath the whole time.
64:53
Speaker A
You hear a small voice coming from the back of your ear. That man. I do not like that man.
65:07
Speaker A
He is Mhm. dour. He's ugly in his own head. Not a bad person, but a person caught in something bad.
65:29
Speaker A
The way of this world is changed. It has. He does appear to have some secrets of his own, though I'm not sure if I want to know them.
65:50
Speaker A
He's He's dangerous because of the power he has. You know that he is a heretic in the eyes of this new silly tradition.
66:10
Speaker A
I did catch that he can read and had some interesting beliefs in our last conversation.
66:19
Speaker A
And so he is a Kremeling. Where did you learn that? I don't say that word.
66:29
Speaker A
I say that word. Kremelings are old, older than Okay. I likely. He hides himself.
66:40
Speaker A
He wants to live out and openly, but he can't because he is a Kremeling and the light scares him.
66:48
Speaker A
Fool, clawed man. Well, for now it seems like he is not an enemy of mine and I'd like it to stay that way.
67:07
Speaker A
You may keep it any way that you wish. But a man that stands in your way, someone that holds something above you, a shardblade dangling by a thread above your head, secrets that he could levy against you.
67:24
Speaker A
Do you feel like he would ever use them? That's the question, isn't it? Uh I think it depends on the severity of what he was threatening against me.
67:45
Speaker A
A man who reads speaks intelligence. A captain of the bare-bones military structure here in the city means that he must know people.
67:56
Speaker A
I'm a bit offended by that. You could be offended by that. You have never visited Urithiru during the heyday, before the recreants. You don't know what military looks like. You are but a babe. What What What I am telling
68:10
Speaker A
you is this man is more dangerous than he seems. And if he is going to hold these things above you, then dangerous it is.
68:22
Speaker A
Perhaps you and I mostly I could sneak and do skulduggery into his abode and find the things that he does not tell you.
68:41
Speaker A
For I know a Kremling to hide 10 things for everything that he reveals. This man is bad.
68:55
Speaker A
I'm not sure I get bad [music] when I read him. I feel like I get more troubled.
69:09
Speaker A
A churl that has been struck and caged and pushed to the very limits of its own control will still rampage if given a chance.
69:32
Speaker A
So, whether you do it or not is not up to me, but my suggestion is that he be watched.
69:42
Speaker A
Leverage against this man would not hurt. I'll consider it, but right now he's providing me with an apartment.
69:51
Speaker A
Not about to risk that. Not being able to provide it for yourself speaks volumes, but I would agree that a private abode is preferable.
70:07
Speaker A
I'm doing that thing again, Ara, am I not? Was that mean? [music] Did that come off mean?
70:17
Speaker A
A little. Perhaps well deserved, but I well, you're less disappointing these days. The past few days.
70:32
Speaker A
I will take what I can get. Right. Good. So, [laughter] so uh Lord. It's then that we, I think, shift to that apartment.
70:57
Speaker A
You move a lot of your possessions and you have for the first time in years a real place to live.
71:09
Speaker A
Two stories. Ooh. A split-level kind of loft situation. The top half of it has been cleared out for training purposes. Dummies and training weapons and uh gambesons, leather armors for for training and and practicing with the sword have all been set up on the first
71:32
Speaker A
level and on or on the second level and on the first level is a bedroom, a washroom with a bath.
71:42
Speaker A
Hot water runs through Kolinar. And you have wardrobe space and a full kitchen. You have amenities blankets pillows laundry etc. etc. etc. It is so beyond the Spartan environments that you have lived in for years. [snorts] And it's a little daunting because it's
72:09
Speaker A
all yours. Yeah. Just privacy for the first time, too. Like, what? Yeah, real privacy.
72:17
Speaker A
Yeah. Yeah. Now, if I'm not mistaken, there was one other thing that you were going to try to do.
72:29
Speaker A
Yeah. Um Which part? Where and how do you start looking and practicing? Yeah. You are trying to peer into Shadesmar at different points within the city.
72:53
Speaker A
It can be here in your apartment. Give me uh actually, we can say that you're sort of peering in at different locations. Give me one point in the city that you very much wish to see the mirror of it within
73:07
Speaker A
Shadesmar. Oh, um She wants to go somewhere that she could [music] try and see a lot of emotions at once.
73:26
Speaker A
So, perhaps like a market a a dark corner of a market square or some place with a lot of activity where you there could be a variety of different feelings and and thoughts and things happening at the same time.
73:41
Speaker A
Okay. Okay. Takes a notebook with her. You feel that I think well, if you're yeah, we'll do the market square. We'll do we'll do the market square. That feels like a like a very decent place.
74:03
Speaker A
You breathe in that stormlight from the spheres in your pouch, from the little lamps that are nearby enough to to feel that infused essence, that thundering, raging, almost wind ready to to, you know, blow out of your body. It's You breathe out and you
74:23
Speaker A
feel that you see those tiny little wisps of light. And then you feel and you push it all into your eyes, into how you see, into those bonds behind your eyes and you look and you are surrounded by
74:47
Speaker A
an ocean of beads, glass beads. And you start feeling the souls of these things and it's overwhelming.
75:01
Speaker A
You don't fully delve into Shades, Mars. You aren't sinking into this ocean. You see a small platform of dark glass that used to be a water well in the physical realm.
75:18
Speaker A
You feel tables, chairs. You see for the first time what it looks like to see a person within the cognitive realm and it's little gout of flame dancing and bobbing around across this ocean.
75:38
Speaker A
And up above, can I actually get you to roll a lore? Mhm. Oh, it's better than my insight was.
75:55
Speaker A
Yeah. 23. 23. You see this wedge-shaped creature. It has a large wedged head, tendrils coming back off of its body, two bright eyes, and then sitting behind it, attached by these hooks, is what can really only be described as a
76:23
Speaker A
sailing vessel. And you note these things and there's people on this ship. There's actual people, not flames.
76:42
Speaker A
They look human. And this alien thing is towing a ship that they're standing upon, and it drifts lazily across a wave of these spheres as it sort of like crashes out across this endless ocean of them.
77:03
Speaker A
And you sense a little bit on that ship of [music] investiture, of true stormlight coming from what you feel is the center of this ship.
77:22
Speaker A
And as you sort of feel this, you get a little overwhelmed. What is this creature pulling this ship? What is this what all of these emotions, all these spheres, all these glass beads sending you thoughts and feelings. What is it like
77:37
Speaker A
to be a brick upon the marketplace that has been trodden upon for so many years?
77:43
Speaker A
What does it mean to be meat on a stick? It says to you in in your heart of of hearts. It says, "I am meat on a stick." And you don't know what to make of that.
77:56
Speaker A
And like it's talking in to your to your to your soul as you brush your hand against it, and you are very suddenly shunted fairly viscerally back into the [music] physical realm.
78:13
Speaker A
Yeah. Immediately, she's going to take notes on what she saw. Uh she's approaching this like a scholar. She purposely wanted to come to some place that was going to overwhelm her, so she could just do it and drill
78:25
Speaker A
it again and again and again as long as she has stormlight. You hit this as many times as you can throughout the 10-day, [music] over and over and over. You look for that ship again. You look for for
78:38
Speaker A
anything that you can, but nothing beats that time in the marketplace. No other period of time had that clarity, but you do see that same ocean of beads. You see little planes of of glass-like stone sitting where water points were, and
78:54
Speaker A
it's overwhelming, but you learn a lot. That Shadesmar is this realm that is just at the cusp of ours.
79:07
Speaker A
She's fascinated by it. She fills up a notebook in that 10 day. Oh, yeah, big time.
79:13
Speaker A
Okay. Well, we're going to zoom out from Feronial at that point. Now, while some are working in workshops and others are attending uh their new apartments and and looking into the other the other side of things, we are going to take a quick break.
79:41
Speaker A
Uh folks, thanks for coming by. It's been a lovely first half. It's uh it's going to be 10 minutes uh before we're back. Uh thanks for thanks for sticking around. Thanks for thanks for hanging out. We will catch you in just a
80:00
Speaker A
short period of time. Tell your mom, tell your uh dad, tell your sister, brother, cousin, uh local congressperson, your grocery clerk, your uh DoorDash driver, your Postmates driver. Uh tell your Uber Eats guy. Um give them a french fry. Let them know,
80:14
Speaker A
"Hey, I gave you a fry. Go watch another World Tabletop." Um tell your dog that we love them. We'll see you in 10 minutes. Catch you on the flip-flop.
80:24
Speaker A
bye. Hello, everyone. Once again, we are back. Did you tell your dog that we love them? I sure hope so, because I do.
80:37
Speaker A
Our daring thief Nev the knife a name that they have been given, not claimed.
80:54
Speaker A
My question to you is where oh where would we find you first? Uh I think the first place you would find Nev is uh I think she would be in the in the theater in the usual place where she tends to meet the cell, but
81:33
Speaker A
she's specifically meeting Faelan right now. Okay. Uh so I'm presuming like uh one of the one of the abandoned rooftop uh little alcoves. Um you know, one that's like had the the windows boarded and like slats pulled down, etc. etc.
81:52
Speaker A
Okay. Yep. Just Faelan? Uh Uh yeah, because I want to talk to him about my idea before I talk to the cell.
82:00
Speaker A
I'd like to have an aside with him first. Okay. This is probably before the meeting is supposed to take place. Like right before.
82:08
Speaker A
Uh Faelan shows up. Uh he hunches down into this into this little alcove having to like, you know, squeeze his shoulders in and duck down a good couple feet uh to scrunch his way into the window to actually like flop down into this uh
82:25
Speaker A
into the location. Um you're not certain, but it looks like he's almost gotten a little bigger uh in the past couple of weeks.
82:34
Speaker A
Uh he hasn't done growing, so but he looks down to you uh and he says, "You wanted to meet?" Uh yeah, you know, we're having that meeting later tonight or tomorrow night.
82:54
Speaker A
Uh and I wanted to run my ideas by you first before I put it in front of the group.
83:06
Speaker A
Okay. Yeah. Sure. So So, I have some leads on places for us to live.
83:16
Speaker A
Oh, we're having Okay, we're having this talk conversation. All right. I I mean I I just thought you were going to pick.
83:28
Speaker A
No, we should all get a say. Cutter never gave us a say in anything. We should all talk about this.
83:35
Speaker A
Okay, this is just a little new. You can understand. Yeah. Yeah, okay. Okay. I'd like to be better than how it was under Cutter anyhow.
83:47
Speaker A
Don't we all? Well, it couldn't have been worse. Nat doesn't say it out loud, but she's like, "Yes, it can." Um Uh yeah, I guess so. Uh so, okay.
84:08
Speaker A
There are buildings we could co-opt that are abandoned. There's warehouses, but I was also thinking we might be able to convince the theater owners to let us use the basement or or we already have a place.
84:34
Speaker A
Yeah. We could go back. Sweep it, make it ours, fill the tunnels with traps that no one can traverse but us.
84:52
Speaker A
And if Rave comes knocking, well, hopefully you know, something will knock him first. Yeah, okay.
85:05
Speaker A
What? I don't like the theater. Yeah, it feels too exposed and though we meet here, it's mainly because nobody expects us to meet here. Yeah, well, and it's just a meeting, right? Like we're not living here.
85:23
Speaker A
Right. There's I know there's other levels. I know there's probably space, but the theater district would protect us.
85:34
Speaker A
They always have. Yeah. But abandoned buildings are going to be full of Kramlings and who knows who else is going to be living there and, you know, then we got to stake out a claim in the neighborhood and put the work in
85:47
Speaker A
and it's above ground. On top of all that, I don't like that. I don't like that at all.
85:52
Speaker A
I I also before all of these ideas considered just going legit and getting us some apartments or something. I don't know. I I want us to have better, but what if we can make what we already have better?
86:07
Speaker A
Well, yeah, we can't go legit. What are you going to put Never the knife on the housing guild authorities bureaucratic stamp? You can't do that. See, when the crew asked me about that, I said the same thing. Who's going to rent to me?
86:20
Speaker A
Nobody. Or if they did, it's going to be through coercion. And all of you are too young.
86:28
Speaker A
So I couldn't even ask one of the network to do it for me. Yeah. Yeah.
86:35
Speaker A
Okay. Well, all right. Yeah, okay. So So what we go we go take back our old stomping ground?
86:44
Speaker A
That's what I'm thinking, but if they all vote that we buy a warehouse and make it ours or take over something that's abandoned, I you know, I don't know. I I don't know how to do any of this.
87:00
Speaker A
Yeah, well, I think I do. I lived in the streets when I first got to Colonar. I didn't have a roof over my head.
87:10
Speaker A
Before that, I was on the road, and before that, she kind of trails off, you know, a lot of things.
87:15
Speaker A
Yeah, all right. Well, okay. Yeah, sure. Well, why don't I don't know. I I vote I vote whatever you think.
87:26
Speaker A
You're supposed to be the one. It's home turf we know it, which means if we all set the traps together, then we'll be safe moving in and out of there. Nobody else will.
87:38
Speaker A
Yeah. Yeah, we could do like tripwires and stuff. make me some some stuff for traps.
87:45
Speaker A
Allistair? Yeah. guy? that Yeah, he made that cram rail thing. We could make like pits and fill them with spikes and put the little thing over it, and anybody who comes down will fall in the, you know, like in the stories.
88:00
Speaker A
You're getting way excited Yeah, yeah, you're you're getting way excited about this. Okay. Well, you poison darts and we can have big falling rocks and I don't know. It would be cool.
88:10
Speaker A
Crossbows that shoot people and I mean, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Set up some traps. It'll be our own thieves guild, no one else's.
88:23
Speaker A
And when people come sniffing for Cutter, which they probably will because she like she like gets kind of mad.
88:32
Speaker A
She's like, "I'll get that man." Okay, yeah. death, I spit on his grave. Um Yeah.
88:41
Speaker A
Sure. I mean, I Yeah. We'll be able to defend ourselves is what I'm saying.
88:48
Speaker A
What the storms is a crem real? I don't know. That's what he calls the fabrial he made. It melts It melts mud.
88:56
Speaker A
It melts dirt. How do you think How do you think She like She like gets quiet and kind of leans in a little bit.
89:06
Speaker A
How do you think we got into that room? During the heist. I thought you killed someone.
89:16
Speaker A
Oh, I did that, too, but like Ah. We melted the floor and climbed in from the bottom. Nobody ever thinks of that.
89:25
Speaker A
Nobody ever thinks of the floor, huh? She's like really animated about this. That's so cool.
89:31
Speaker A
I If I If I could get one of my own the possibilities endless. I've been thinking about it a lot since then.
89:40
Speaker A
Okay. Okay, yeah. I Yeah. Um [laughter] I have a question. I have a I have a big question.
89:47
Speaker A
Whatever you want to know. Did you Did Did you find Cutter's soul caster? Wait. What?
90:01
Speaker A
Well, how was he getting Well, how was he getting all the grain? He always I always assumed he had like, you know, cuz that's how the That's how the hideout was carved, right?
90:12
Speaker A
That's how we always got the That's how we always had the field. I I didn't find anything like that.
90:19
Speaker A
Okay. You're right. Like, we can we can look again when we go down there, but I don't I I figured he would have hid it somewhere else.
90:30
Speaker A
I'm pretty sure you didn't see the room after I was done with it. I I looked everywhere. I tore that place apart literally.
90:39
Speaker A
It didn't make sense that he didn't that he didn't keep it there, yeah. Yeah.
90:45
Speaker A
Okay. If he had it at all or if someone else did, I don't know. We always had grain.
90:52
Speaker A
We always always always had grain. It was all we had, but yeah, we did.
91:00
Speaker A
We can work on the stores that are already there. And we'll figure it out.
91:10
Speaker A
If I keep doing these jobs, then money won't be an issue. Well, and if we don't have to kick up to Cutter to fuel his gambling habit, Yeah, I found his storming journal.
91:29
Speaker A
What was in it? A lot. He was a gambler, wasn't he? Yeah. I know he loved cards and he loved dice.
91:38
Speaker A
He was he was extremely in debt. I had a feeling. And I won't be surprised if the one who owns owned him comes looking for me.
91:55
Speaker A
Cuz despite how he treated me, I was apparently more like next of kin to him than others.
92:03
Speaker A
Yeah, I know that makes sense. Okay, so All right. So, we Rave, do you know the name Rave?
92:13
Speaker A
Like the the gambling hall guy? Yeah. Yeah. He runs like he runs like a like a little underground card shop kind of thing. Yeah.
92:23
Speaker A
Him. Him? Yeah. Is he like he's a little he's kind of a little gremling kind of guy? Like [music] he's a little he's kind of a weasely fellow. He's not Well, I keep hearing this I keep hearing his name and then I saw it in his papers
92:41
Speaker A
and his journal and Oh, okay. I think there's more to him than he appears.
92:49
Speaker A
Right. And that probably means he's next. Right. Right. He needs to be dealt with. He's connected to too many people.
93:00
Speaker A
Too many people that I care about. Makes him hard to deal with. Not if he doesn't see us coming.
93:11
Speaker A
Or if you have crazy magic powers that make you fly and stab people good.
93:17
Speaker A
I look around I cuz I'm waiting for for Jazz to start berating me for talking about killing people.
93:23
Speaker A
Jazz is is incorporeal at the moment. Mhm. You can feel the glares of disapproval from the cognitive realm, though.
93:34
Speaker A
I I know I know Jazz is listening, so uh I'm surprised he hasn't spoken up yet and insisted that we get like some kind of fortress with the money we don't have, but you know, uh You hear immediately and you should get
93:53
Speaker A
a fortress. It should have parapets and it should have buttresses and it should have walkways that you can guard at a high vantage point. You're talking about living underground. Heroes don't live underground.
94:09
Speaker A
I'm I never claimed to be one of those, and also we have no money. Not the money for a fortress anyway.
94:18
Speaker A
You could petition the powers that be and go and see if they could put you in the guard regiment in some way to to give you a station, a barracks, a a a a a a place a place with walls with stone
94:33
Speaker A
walls and and and that you could get up high. What are you supposed to I You connect to me, I give you the help on then then you you I give you the powers of flight, and you're like, I'm
94:43
Speaker A
going to live in the dirt and the mud. This is absolutely unacceptable. Safe? Safe?
94:50
Speaker A
Yeah. Mhm. Yes, the place with more corners than anywhere else can possibly have corners to get backed into.
95:02
Speaker A
Jez, I'm not a I'm not a I'm not a soldier. I'm not. Not not not yet. Yes, you can. Get you get I don't want to be.
95:11
Speaker A
You don't have to be a Well, you don't need to be A soldier is not It's a state of mind. You don't have to be the Oh.
95:18
Speaker A
Nave makes a face like Mhm. I don't Mhm. Meanwhile, Folarin gets to witness this one-sided conversation.
95:30
Speaker A
Folarin [laughter] is Folarin's like out. Sorry. Don't you apologize to him for me. I'll tell him sorry if I feel sorry.
95:43
Speaker A
Well, then maybe you should show yourself to him for once. I feel like a crazy person.
95:49
Speaker A
You are a crazy person trying to live underground. And then he like disappears from your sight.
95:54
Speaker A
Just like, can I mentally shoot him out? Yeah, for sure, 100%. Well, you can, actually, but he he disappears from your sight.
96:04
Speaker A
Nav does the facepalm thing, like the Picard facepalm. Uh Yes. Uh all right. Um [music] all right, now now that that's now that that's done, she like calms down.
96:16
Speaker A
Your invisible friend? Yeah, he has some really grand ideas about me that I don't quite understand.
96:24
Speaker A
He says I'm a hero, and I shouldn't be living underground, and all of this stuff, and I'm I'm not a hero, Florin. I'm just trying to live.
96:35
Speaker A
Well, I mean, you are a hero. Oh, not you, too. She like throws her head back. And it's becoming abundantly clear that she talks louder now than she did before.
96:48
Speaker A
Oh, for sure, yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Well, I Nav, come on. What? Okay. What? You can fly.
97:02
Speaker A
You you Yeah. killed one of the worst people in Kholinar. You've saved a bunch of children. You feed them, and you take care of them, and I mean, you're trying your best to help save people. That's the hero.
97:21
Speaker A
More than any than any like looks around. More than any soldier. Yeah. I run an orphanage.
97:38
Speaker A
[laughter] Nav looks so uncomfortable. Steal from the rich, you give to the poor. I I mean, if somebody doesn't write a book about you one day, I'd be shocked.
97:48
Speaker A
[sighs and gasps] I guess I guess when you put it like that, I should be a little more conscious of what happens.
98:01
Speaker A
And what I say and what I do. Uh it's it's sort of yeah. I Listen, let's wait for the other kids to get here.
98:15
Speaker A
Shall we? All right. Yeah. Uh Florin pulls out a uh you know, um a little like lava screen sweet bar, like a little granola bar, passes one to you, shares a couple of drinks off of a uh uh uh
98:32
Speaker A
uh flask filled with, you know, orangey uh you know, he he took uh He takes a little bit of time to to himself to chew and think and he's clearly going through the the you know, the ramifications of whatever this
98:48
Speaker A
decision's going to be in his head in in the next little while. Um So, the kids start filtering in.
99:00
Speaker A
Trim. Uh Oh my god, I there's so many kid names. There's so many of them. Give me a second.
99:11
Speaker A
[laughter] You can just say you can just say the kids show up. It's okay.
99:15
Speaker A
Yeah, a bunch of the kids show up. Um Yeah. There's so many of them.
99:22
Speaker A
There is. There's about 20. About 20 children show up. Yes. Uh yeah, so when they all gather, Nev is going to do the thing that she does when she holds the meeting. She kind of like stands in the middle of like the
99:37
Speaker A
semi-circle of kids who are like waiting for her to speak and she looks at them and says, "All right.
99:45
Speaker A
So, long story short, I want everyone to have a say in this of where we live.
99:55
Speaker A
And there are some options. I have a feeling I know which one is best but I don't want to just make the decision because you will be living there, too, if you want to.
100:12
Speaker A
I'm not going to be upset if anybody finds another home or gets adopted or anything like that.
100:21
Speaker A
Okay? You get a lot of nods, a lot of like, you know, looks of understanding.
100:33
Speaker A
Okay, option number one. We either find or rent some kind of warehouse and convert it into our space.
100:44
Speaker A
Option number two. I bet the theater owners would let us live in the basement.
100:54
Speaker A
You get a lot of Not a great It's It's Listen, I'm I'm trying to think of easy things because I am who I am. It's not easy for me to rent like a normal person.
101:05
Speaker A
So, stick with me here. And finally, the one I'm sure you're all going to pick is we go back and forth to the hideout.
101:20
Speaker A
We clean that place out top to bottom and fill all of the passages around the hideout and beyond with traps.
101:35
Speaker A
We set them together so that only we can navigate it. Also saves us from having to pay rent.
101:44
Speaker A
But it'll be dangerous. Just like before. You see a lot of confused faces. A lot of like exchanged looks between one another. A lot of worry.
102:04
Speaker A
You know, a lot of like a lot of confusion. So much confusion. Like eventually, you know, there's a bit of murmuring among one another. And then you know Vitharr looks to you.
102:19
Speaker A
And he's like isn't this aren't you should you should be making this decision, right?
102:26
Speaker A
Isn't it kind of like we don't What do we know? All right. Well Trims like a 11-year-old.
102:35
Speaker A
option Yeah. All right. Don't is you need to do that you need to do this.
102:42
Speaker A
I think you got to I think you have to figure it out. Like we got to like I don't want to If if if nobody has any strong feelings about it, that's also an answer. That's okay.
102:55
Speaker A
Yeah. opposed to going back to the hideout? You don't get really any like opposition or agreeance.
103:04
Speaker A
Like you you're looking for direction and you're looking for this, you know, a say, so to speak, but these kids are so incredibly beaten down and accustomed to being told what to do and that their opinions don't matter, that they're just
103:22
Speaker A
at a loss now that you've actually presented them with any major decision. They They look to you and they're like You get a lot I don't know. What What do you Okay.
103:33
Speaker A
I don't know. That's fine. All right. This is how it's going to be when we make decisions moving forward.
103:44
Speaker A
Unless there's no other options and I have to make a decision right off the bat.
103:52
Speaker A
Your opinions matter. What you want matters. Like the Azish? You hear Dervan speak up.
104:03
Speaker A
Well, we don't have to vote about it, but you know, I I don't want to just I don't want to be like Cutter.
104:12
Speaker A
I don't want to make decisions and dictate what you should do. Direction is part of it, but I think we can all agree that he went quite a bit further than that, right?
104:26
Speaker A
You get a lot of nods. Yeah, some pretty like they know that. I don't want it to be like that with us.
104:33
Speaker A
It's just going to be us. And you'll see the crew around, too. But probably not at the hideout, I would expect.
104:42
Speaker A
Uh you You see You see Dervan and he he sort of speaks up. He's like, "And And And your your friend?" What? Which one?
104:54
Speaker A
The the uh officer lady. Oh. Yeah, she's part of the crew, I think. Okay.
105:06
Speaker A
So. And she [sighs and gasps] She's always bugging me anyway, so she'll show up at some point or another, I'm sure.
105:17
Speaker A
Uh You hear Vanaran uh Your your friend, Alstrom, he's a big nerd. He's a big old nerd, big nerd man.
105:26
Speaker A
I told I warned you. He also does not know how to fight. Yeah, I got to I got to teach him some stuff.
105:38
Speaker A
Yeah, okay. Um [music] Bear can't fight either. Bear can't fight? Nah. You hear uh you hear a couple of the kids are like, "I don't know about that. I've heard some stories about old Bearlar." Hey.
105:52
Speaker A
Hey, you know who can fight? Faramel. Dervin's like, "Yeah." She knows how to use a sword.
106:02
Speaker A
A lady sword? Yeah. It's cool, right? That's really cool. That's really super cool. Cooler than daggers.
106:17
Speaker A
Nev makes a face. [laughter] I sometimes I'm not all the time. Sometimes they could be cooler.
106:25
Speaker A
Yeah, okay. Um I'm I'm probably going to learn to use a sword here pretty soon anyway, so.
106:31
Speaker A
Daggers aren't really cutting it these days. Um So, there's a bit of a murmur throughout the throughout the kids.
106:40
Speaker A
And Folarin says, "Yeah, all right. So, we'll we'll make a we'll make an adjustment. We'll put ourselves back in the back in the hideout." "What are you going to name it?" Uh Nev looks lost.
106:56
Speaker A
I wasn't expecting to name anything. Uh It's kind of a cool name. What? The hideout.
107:05
Speaker A
The hideout? We're just going to name it the hideout? Ouch. You're going to look at me all incredulous like that after spilling the beans?
107:13
Speaker A
than the warrens. I don't know I don't know if we want vague. I don't know I mean we might want the reputation. All I'm saying is that you were talking all high and mighty and getting all all, you know,
107:25
Speaker A
uh animated about the fact that you read about these traps in the story books and all that kind of stuff. They name their hideouts.
107:33
Speaker A
They do name their hideouts, but am I a name your hideout kind of person?
107:38
Speaker A
Come on. Not really. You name it. Are you sure? Sure. Punches his shoulder. You name it.
107:47
Speaker A
You sure? How? [snorts] Yeah, okay. going to name it something stupid? No. I know it's going to be really cool.
107:57
Speaker A
Hey kids. Hey kids. And like he turns around and he looks at the kids. He's like, "How do you feel about the sheath?" No.
108:06
Speaker A
Immediately. No. The kids The kids are all like, "Oh my god, the sheath? Like cuz Nev the knife The knife goes into the sheath? The sheath? Oh my god, the sheath? Yes.
108:16
Speaker A
That's so cool. That's the coolest name. Oh my goodness. Yeah. Scabbard would be cooler.
108:21
Speaker A
The scabbard? Can't be the scabbard. You're Nev the knife. Ah. I didn't pick that name.
108:30
Speaker A
Well, then I guess you're not picking this one either. Never mind. I want it to be the hideout.
108:37
Speaker A
[laughter] Uh Valerion laughs and the kids are like, "We're calling it the sheath." Oh, no.
108:47
Speaker A
All right. [laughter] Um Story of my life. So, the kids all say they're like, "Well, we've been moving our stuff out and all that. So, we're we're going to need some time to get it all back in." Take your time.
109:03
Speaker A
Uh we should probably I I I look to Valerion. We should probably scout it before anybody tries moving things back in.
109:12
Speaker A
We don't know what or who is down there. Like if anyone moved in. Yeah, okay. Yeah.
109:18
Speaker A
I I haven't been back. I'll scout it. Let me scout it. All right. It'll be fine.
109:24
Speaker A
I can handle it. Yeah. All right. Okay. So, the kids dissipate. Is there anything left that you want to speak to Florin about?
109:39
Speaker A
Mhm. Okay. Uh now I want to move into the other things that Nev is doing during this time.
109:45
Speaker A
Perfect. Perfect. Yeah. So, the next thing that you wanted to work on, Mhm. uh we'll hand wave that the that the uh the sheath um gets totally uh gets totally um uh cleared out. There's no There was no
110:06
Speaker A
ne'er-do-wells in there. There was no Nobody had moved in, but it's good to sweep it. Um Okay.
110:11
Speaker A
So, you're sitting within your new uh your new abode, your new old abode, uh which now has less horrendous lighting. It has less uh oppressive vibes. Um you know, the kids have like decorated. There's paint on the walls.
110:29
Speaker A
There's drawings on the walls and chalk and art. slashed paint. There's like sphere lamps that have had that are actually set up out of the some of the spheres that Nev's got. Uh the you know, it's you know, it looks homey almost. Um you
110:43
Speaker A
know, uh there's cloth walls that have been set up for you know, to people for people to have a little bit of privacy.
110:48
Speaker A
There's been some wooden doors that have been erected by some of the more clever kids, etc. etc.
110:53
Speaker A
Um there's a place to cook. There's shelves with like tchotchkes on them and trinkets and toys and things. There's things in this place.
111:01
Speaker A
foraged It's all like foraged and found things put together, too. it. Oh, yeah, big time. Big time. Oh my gosh. Scraped Scraped creme that's been put back into a bucket and and you know, and mushed onto the walls to make
111:14
Speaker A
handholds for like rock climbing uh practice within and like all that different kind of stuff. Um it really feels like home for perhaps the strangest and first time.
111:26
Speaker A
Yeah. It's a little It's a little weird, but uh I think Nev's thoughts on that are I'll I'll get used to it.
111:37
Speaker A
Uh as you're admiring this place, uh sort of looking across it and and checking things out, Faelan comes up to you, sneaks up behind you.
111:47
Speaker A
Just in like uh not trying to sneak up on you, just a big quiet guy coming up behind you in a moment of reverie.
111:56
Speaker A
Uh I will turn to look at him. What's up? [snorts] You ready? Ready for what?
112:06
Speaker A
You ready to get big? Oh, yes, right. Yeah, we're going to do that. Okay.
112:15
Speaker A
You have been more money into the food budget. Well, you have been a mentor to me for many, many things.
112:24
Speaker A
You've taught me how to sneak. You've taught me how to move. You've taught me how to fight.
112:30
Speaker A
You've taught me the subtle arts of intimidation. And then he ushers you over to a table where there is a large bowl of steaming stew, a a sort of crab meat jambalaya uh that has been uh arranged out of lavish
112:52
Speaker A
grain and spices and and uh and and chilled meat. And he sits you down. This bowl is massive. It is a huge portion.
113:02
Speaker A
Okay. You want me to eat all this? No. And then he pulls from a satchel several pieces of lavish bread and then a large glass of some sort of like fortifying beverage you know full of electrolytes and and
113:23
Speaker A
you know like minerals and such like that almost like a like a like a Roshan smoothie.
113:33
Speaker A
He's like no no I want you to eat that. Okay. I will sit down and attempt to eat all this food.
113:46
Speaker A
Um. Uh I feel like it's difficult for her to do this. There's one thing that you really notice while you eat.
113:56
Speaker A
And it's that it doesn't hurt to chew. For the first time you are eating a large meal.
114:08
Speaker A
A an abundance of of food you know a calorie dense hearty meal. And at the end of it you notice first of all a protrusion of the belly like you are full like you are stuffed.
114:26
Speaker A
Okay. And then you notice that your jaw doesn't hurt. There's no ache. There's no pain. There's no sharp stretching ache when you move it after eating.
114:47
Speaker A
Oh. Is that what that's supposed to feel like? Lauren looks at you. What do you mean?
114:55
Speaker A
Uh my jaw doesn't hurt. Did it used to? All the time, yeah. You didn't tell anyone?
115:10
Speaker A
Uh what's the point? Cutter did something to my face. Oh, you're such a martyr. God.
115:16
Speaker A
What? You could have had painkillers. That wouldn't fix anything. A couple of little bit of herbs. Yeah, but you could have eaten them. There's This is the real reason why you're so skinny. Okay. All right.
115:29
Speaker A
All right. Up. Up up up. Come on. Up up. Shh. She'll get up. Moving around. We're moving around.
115:37
Speaker A
Uh okay. Do some stretches while your food starts to digest. Then we're going to get into aerobics.
115:43
Speaker A
Then we're into calisthenics. Then we're into weight training. And then we do it again tomorrow.
115:51
Speaker A
Uh okay. Let's do this. Nev is determined. She's not going to complain. Now, we rolled we rolled some of these uh off screen uh some of the results for these for Nev.
116:10
Speaker A
Um Oh, you're having a tough time. Yeah. This is rough for you. The abundance of food leads to struggle.
116:25
Speaker A
You get stitches in your side. You you get cramps in your belly. You're you're you feel heavy so often. You feel like sleeping.
116:36
Speaker A
Uh uh when you know you know that you should be alert and awake, but like the sheer amount of calories and like the abundance of like warm filling food you like it's it's like a comfortable discomfort. You're like, "Ooh, this
116:50
Speaker A
feels so good. I'm eating. I feel so much energy. I have this abundance of energy. I would like to nap now." And that feels alien.
116:58
Speaker A
And you're having the hardest time with this but you're learning. You're putting on muscle. You're moving your body in ways that you haven't before. And by the end, near the end of this of this 10-day, you're lifting a little heavier.
117:17
Speaker A
You're running a little bit further. You can climb a little bit faster. And more importantly, you've been sparring with Folarin. Just, you know, light uh uh striking.
117:37
Speaker A
And he's a brick wall of a man. He is such a sincere fridge of an individual.
117:49
Speaker A
And you hit him with a punch that, well, you were pretty sure shouldn't have really hurt him.
118:00
Speaker A
And you blow the wind out of him. And it's at that point you're like, [cough and laughter] Oh, You um lucky.
118:24
Speaker A
I was lucky. And you know that that's not for a single second what it was.
118:32
Speaker A
Mhm. You getting stronger. You see a little bit in yourself. You catch yourself looking into [music] a pool of still water within the uh within the sheath.
118:52
Speaker A
Just a place where you're cleaning one day, helping take care of the place, getting rid of some standing water.
118:58
Speaker A
And in the sphere light, you catch a reflection of yourself. And you see like traps starting to define. You see, you know, uh your lats starting to, you know, bow out a little bit. And you see um you And And you take a moment
119:14
Speaker A
and you flex. You're like You look You're like uh a little bit of a Yeah, okay. Now you're like just to see. Just to know. You look strong. You're looking And then as you think that, you feel Jez right beside you. He says,
119:34
Speaker A
"Healthy." I I can't remember a time when I've felt this way. You looked a sickly Carbanthian medical ward child.
119:53
Speaker A
Yeah, well. She shrugs. He's feeding you well. I'm Yeah, we'll figure it out. No, he knows how to cook for health.
120:07
Speaker A
to get I need to get stronger. Why do you need to be stronger? Apparently a lot of things are coming.
120:19
Speaker A
And if recent events are any hint, she will unsheathe one of her daggers and look at it.
120:32
Speaker A
Just kind of hold it in her palm. This isn't going to This isn't going to do it.
120:39
Speaker A
Yeah, but why do you need to get stronger Novali? You know why. Oh, I know why. I've been telling you why.
120:55
Speaker A
Now, it's not about being a hero. I I don't have such grand designs like you do.
121:08
Speaker A
And maybe you see something I don't, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to try.
121:21
Speaker A
Well, I I do have grand designs. I absolutely do. I'm I'm literally a a shard of honor himself. [music] Of course I have grand designs.
121:29
Speaker A
Ugh, here we go again. But uh again and again and again and you'll keep here. You have to listen to me. So, you I If you can't say it now, that's fine.
121:41
Speaker A
[music] I want you to think. I want you to think about this cuz it requires no real energy. I don't need you to write [music] it down. I don't need you to make a speech on it.
121:55
Speaker A
This is a very simple I'm I know I'm putting a lot of weight on your shoulders. I I understand that, but the world is heavy right now. So, what I want you to do is think.
122:08
Speaker A
Why do you want to be stronger? Truly. I think instead of saying anything, she just looks out into the common room where there are kids training and eating and hanging out and laughing and doing all of the things that kids do.
122:29
Speaker A
You know why. Yeah. I don't need to say it. He chuckles. No. [snorts] I actually really think you do.
122:43
Speaker A
But it's okay not to be there yet. Yeah. Who knows? So, what are you going to pick?
122:59
Speaker A
Huh? What are you going to pick? Like what? What kind of weapon? Yeah. Uh Do you even know what you're after?
123:08
Speaker A
No, just something bigger, more reach, uh You don't have time to learn how to use a sword. You don't. So, get that out of your head.
123:20
Speaker A
Oh, okay. Uh maybe Don't they give all the foot soldiers like spears and stuff?
123:29
Speaker A
Maybe one of those. There are two things, simply two things, that I think would suit you.
123:37
Speaker A
And both of them are a far cry from a knife. One, it's a great big hammer.
123:47
Speaker A
Uh I'm sorry. [laughter] Well, to be incredibly direct, even a common thief understands the practicality of swinging the heaviest end of something into the head of somebody else.
124:06
Speaker A
Yeah. I feels No, I want to be I want to be fast. Then it's the spear.
124:16
Speaker A
They are weapons of intricacy. They are easy to learn and near impossible to master. The adeptness that one can show with a spear sometimes will far outweigh anything that can be done with a sword. It's It's a tool as well. It can be used to
124:37
Speaker A
wedge things. It can be used to pry things open. It can push back an animal.
124:42
Speaker A
It's uh the the blunt end can be used to to bash and and and you know, to not slay someone. It's it is a multi-purpose tool. You can use it to vault over things. It's it is very you.
125:03
Speaker A
It sounds versatile. Though most soldiers I've seen don't quite use them right. Well, you know, guards and such.
125:19
Speaker A
I'm going to rant for a moment. Oh. I'm I mean, yeah okay. [laughter] I know that you have your own reasons for disliking the guards within Kholinar, but I will tell you this is the least effective guards regiment that
125:38
Speaker A
I have seen in a very very long time. They have grown lax. They are within their capital. Their queen is a lackadaisical nothing sandwich of a woman. There is absolutely no need for 90% of them to be milling about within the marketplace
125:55
Speaker A
drinking swill and acting like they are important. There is no remedy for this besides further discipline.
126:04
Speaker A
Your good friend, your best friend, the best of you, your group, Foraniel. She should be in charge.
126:17
Speaker A
A woman of discipline, self-determination, power, etiquette, actual functionality within a moving body of soldiers and guardsmen.
126:29
Speaker A
I've been watching her, too. I almost picked her. Oh, how sad for both of us.
126:38
Speaker A
She kind of rolls her eyes. Don't act. You're meant for the skies. And that's something that's very simple.
126:51
Speaker A
I already knew that. Yeah. Besides, the strength that she has seems to Oh, Frame's a Frame is an [music] interesting individual.
127:09
Speaker A
It's a Jack. No, I'm just kidding. [laughter] No insight check necessary. The look on his face.
127:15
Speaker A
[laughter] Oh. So, that's that's it, huh? Okay. All right. Well, we all seem to know each other.
127:25
Speaker A
Well, apparently you do. Uh I was thinking about I I agree that the spear is appropriate, but I was thinking about the sword and that Fira could probably teach me. I mean, you saw her the other day.
127:44
Speaker A
She is a wonder with a blade. It is true. Yeah. I didn't know she could do that.
127:51
Speaker A
I didn't know she could fight like that. I thought it was, you know, I thought it was, you know, Well, I Yeah, I had heard rumors of her being a logistician and uh a a rather tactical mind and and I had read reports. I can
128:05
Speaker A
read, but it's it was a shock. You say tactical mind, but she follows me around and tells me that I could do better, and that's weird.
128:17
Speaker A
Uh I don't know how tactical that is. that is actually a very sound tactical decision.
128:23
Speaker A
[laughter] Uh great. I love that you think that. You could listen to her more.
128:34
Speaker A
She's very intelligent. She is obsessed with Warrenism and I am not. Well, ignore those parts.
128:43
Speaker A
Honor's dead. She'll have to get over that hurdle. Yeah, I mean, you know, I already knew that part, so.
128:53
Speaker A
Didn't need a friend to tell me. They're being dramatic. Am I? Yes, you didn't know. You didn't know.
129:03
Speaker A
It It feels factual because you are a chill-headed, incredibly stubborn individual that believes what goes on in their own head more than what's actually written or observable out there.
129:17
Speaker A
I wish I could turn off the talking. The talking in your own mind? No, you.
129:26
Speaker A
You're driving me nuts. Well, that's just rude. [laughter] Think you're so clever. All right, I'm I'm going to go back to my training regimen now, and she'll do she'll do a salute at Jazz.
129:44
Speaker A
It's sandwich time. Uh not another sandwich. I'm so tired of sandwiches. I want curry.
129:53
Speaker A
[laughter] That's the last thing I want to hear. We'll hear. the other room. We'll zoom out from Nev there.
129:59
Speaker A
[laughter] Now, there's one last individual that has things to do within their down times.
130:16
Speaker A
So, Bertram, where do we find you? Um I think first first off you'd find Berdolac laying in his bed in his house for the first time in a long time actually being there, actually just like being at home.
130:39
Speaker A
Um enjoying the sound of all of his cousins going about the rest of their days where he takes in an actual day to to recharge.
130:50
Speaker A
Uh You're laying in bed. You're recharging. You're attempting to get a nap in. You're having a good time. Smell of food cooking.
130:58
Speaker A
Throwing a throwing a ball in the air. Yeah, just in the bed, yeah. Uh you hear the telltale sounds of a lock uh on your door being uh clicked open. And then a child walks in. Uh it is uh Trim.
131:14
Speaker A
Uh the one that had uh or no, sorry, Dervin. Uh the one that had uh uh subverted you all that time ago and given you the false identity.
131:24
Speaker A
Hey. Why are you here? I heard this is going to be my room. No, this is my room.
131:36
Speaker A
Your mom didn't say that. Why? No, okay. No, no, no. Hold on. Yeah. What Okay.
131:49
Speaker A
You are in my room. This is my room. It's mine. If you want to stay in my room, I you maybe work with that at some point.
132:01
Speaker A
Get out of my room. Yeah. Okay. What do you want? Nef sent me. And what does What What do they want?
132:21
Speaker A
Bears sits up now in bed, leans over. I um I'm here to stay. Actually.
132:34
Speaker A
Your mom really did say that this is this is the place where I'm going to stay. I don't I That is you know, if you want to me to throw a cot on the floor or whatever, I can do
132:45
Speaker A
that. So you're staying here full-time? All time? I've already been sleeping on your roof.
133:04
Speaker A
Okay. Now, you are welcome to stay um in my room. It is still my room. There are some things in here.
133:12
Speaker A
Okay, I mean we'll work on that. Um There are some things in this room that you should probably not touch.
133:37
Speaker A
I've been through your room. I mean you've been through my How What? I was sent to look after this building by um the network.
133:52
Speaker A
On the volley or somebody else in the Nev. Okay. And so looking after means going through my stuff.
134:02
Speaker A
I needed clues. Clues for what? Who's been following you? All right, people have been watching her.
134:16
Speaker A
have you found? What have you found? Two individuals between 5'9 and 5'11. They wear dark clothes.
134:31
Speaker A
One of them has a tattoo on his right hand. Neither of them carry spears.
134:35
Speaker A
tattoo? What kind of tattoo? I can't make it out. It's a bunch of symbols. Nothing I've ever seen before.
134:42
Speaker A
Uh Pedlar's going to throw up the He's going to throw the the Sons of Honor symbol up in his hand.
134:50
Speaker A
They look like this. Yeah, that's the one. How do you know it? I've been working this case for a long time.
135:01
Speaker A
Okay. They go back to Rave's gambling hall. Oh, this is not good. No, what's not good? What's not good is what you should ask your sister.
135:26
Speaker A
She's been Miyola, can What? Get this center away quick. Talk to her later. This isn't something you're going to want to ask her right now.
135:42
Speaker A
Trust me. Yeah, Bear, I'm coming. No, it's okay. I I I found somebody else who can help me read.
135:51
Speaker A
What you mean? Oh, yeah, all right. So And then And then Dervan looks to you.
135:56
Speaker A
She's been paying them. Yeah, I know. That's why I gave her the spears spears to pay them.
136:06
Speaker A
No, no, no. These aren't the you're Your mom pays Raven. And your sister gave spheres to pay Raven. She's paying these two people that have been standing outside of your windows.
136:26
Speaker A
They're watching your family. Paying them off. I I couldn't tell you. Spheres change hands and I don't know why.
136:36
Speaker A
I don't think they've seen me. I'm good at hiding. I'm very good at hiding.
136:46
Speaker A
I'm good at disguises. Okay. Can you read? I can't read. I'm not even really good with glyphs.
137:03
Speaker A
Okay. Well, we can both I can work you through the glyphs. There's some things you're going to need to learn pretty quick.
137:10
Speaker A
And Bear is going to pull out the dossiers on each of them that he pulled off of uh uh uh uh Tasmir's corpse. Is that who it was?
137:22
Speaker A
Yeah. Uh yeah. Pulls out the documents uh the dossiers. Hands them to Dervan. Okay. So, there's a lot of information in there regarding me, Fronio, Alstrom, and Nev.
137:42
Speaker A
Okay. I can work you through the glyphs, but I do think there's also some you know, script in there that I don't know what's I I can't make heads or tails of it, so.
138:02
Speaker A
So, I got to learn to read? Is that what you're telling me? Wave, got to learn to read.
138:09
Speaker A
Who's going to teach us? Well, I was really hoping my sister would, but apparently she's been paying.
138:18
Speaker A
I've got to figure that out. Yeah, okay. Yeah um these two guys really only go two places.
138:29
Speaker A
As far as I've followed them. Who followed them? From Raves to here and then then back.
138:38
Speaker A
Well, I followed them from Raves to Well, no, I don't follow them from Raves. I let them Wherever they go after that, I have no idea. I I'm not going anywhere near that place.
138:47
Speaker A
But, they go from here They go from here to Raves and some days they'll go from here to Honor's Hold.
138:57
Speaker A
And when they are they just watch our house? Yeah. It's like they're waiting for something.
139:10
Speaker A
I've seen the look. I've scouted more than enough locations. I've seen Nev do the exact same thing.
139:16
Speaker A
I've seen Faelan less successfully do the exact same thing. Okay. So, I take it you've seen the board in the uh the wardrobe there where I keep Yeah, you're insane.
139:36
Speaker A
No, I'm not. well you are, but I made heads and tails of it. I know what's up.
139:43
Speaker A
That's good. You've been hunting these people for a long time. This kid is like 13 years old.
139:50
Speaker A
Mhm. But, whip smart. And Bear Bear remembers from a few years back and is already like it. This This kid's a kindred spirit. I I like him as much as I hate him.
140:02
Speaker A
If not more. Okay. So, there's more stuff that's going on the board after today.
140:10
Speaker A
Yeah. Some of it on there. Yeah. Um and Baird does pull out the board and instead of using instead of using string and whatever Tiano and you know, like taking little portraits that he's he's drawn up himself glyphs of names. He just starts
140:26
Speaker A
light weaving images of the faces and and linking them up to where they should be on the board, you know, connecting them with different lines of light and different lines of light meet like different colors represent different possible relationships.
140:39
Speaker A
Durbin's like, "What is what in damnation are you doing? What is this? What is all of this? What is all of this?" "What are you doing? What is this?" Can you see a pattern in all of this?
140:56
Speaker A
It's glowing. Now, look at it. Oh. Yeah, it looks like Yeah, it looks like Rave's a problem.
141:17
Speaker A
I think a lot of it comes back to him. I think I think also is he I mean I know light eyes.
141:27
Speaker A
I guess that Rave has some sort of connection to the palace and the palace is connected to Sons of Honor.
141:33
Speaker A
Probably has a lot to do with why Ace Sedans going absolutely damnation crazy. And why?
141:44
Speaker A
Why do the Sons of Honor have anything to do with the palace or Queen Ace Sedan?
141:54
Speaker A
Well, there's got to be somebody outside of the city city. I mean, like that's There's an agenda going on, obviously, but I don't think it's anybody from here.
142:04
Speaker A
It's been the same factions you know, they're hammering on each other for as far as I knew, decades.
142:11
Speaker A
And the Sons of Honor are new. They're probably from someone out of the city.
142:17
Speaker A
Okay. So, let's look at who's connected then. We've got Azedan being Ferry. chopping some chopping an Alden's head off in the middle of the day.
142:29
Speaker A
Yeah. Azedan, Colin, I don't know. I've heard the weird things about Dalanar. I don't know if what that all means, but we've also got this freaking Tasmir Mook who I have, on good authority, is a Son of Honor.
142:49
Speaker A
If he's here on his lord's behalf, Amaram, that means that means we're in trouble.
142:58
Speaker A
Yeah. How does it go? If it's Azedan, and it's Tasmir, and if What if it is Amaram? What if it's Sadeas? What if it's Dalanar storming Colin?
143:14
Speaker A
Well, it's probably not Dalanar. What if it's What if it's Elacar? Maybe. That's his wife.
143:35
Speaker A
I'm going to the palace. You're going to the palace? And then the next few days we're going into the palace.
143:43
Speaker A
I'm going to spend some time scoping it out. Yeah, okay. What do you want?
143:50
Speaker A
First I need to talk to my sister. You should. You should talk to your sister.
143:56
Speaker A
And you shouldn't be here. No, I'll get up on the roof. I won't even listen. I I I I'm I promise.
144:07
Speaker A
No. Listen. I'll listen. I promise. Good. Yeah. Um Yeah. Um [sighs] A couple of the other kids are um probably going to stay here, too.
144:34
Speaker A
It's okay. We'll find a room. Yeah. Yeah. They aren't allowed in our room. No. It's my room, and you're lucky you're allowed to.
144:47
Speaker A
It's our room. It was my room first. No, it was my room first, and you are staying in it. It is my room.
144:53
Speaker A
Uh okay, well, and then he's like climbing out of the of the window. He's like, "Shh." He's like pushing the the window up. He's like, "I think you might have forgot the part where I'm a thief." And then like mantles up onto the roof.
145:10
Speaker A
How could I forget? Okay, Naco, can you could you come here? Are you busy?
145:22
Speaker A
Yeah, what, Bear? What do you What do you want? Come here. Yeah, all right. I'm I'm coming.
145:28
Speaker A
She comes into the room. She's got flour all over the front of her. I am going to need those spheres back that I left with you.
145:41
Speaker A
What do you mean? I need them back. Remember I left you a bunch of spheres in case of emergencies.
145:48
Speaker A
I need them back. I don't have them. What was the emergency? It was a the family was needing them.
146:03
Speaker A
I left you hundreds of spheres. And kids are hungry. There's things to there's you know, there's there was an emergency. Whatever. I spent it on the family. I don't got them anymore. That's all you need to know.
146:20
Speaker A
My sister. I need those spheres back. That's all you need to know. Don't pull this silent guy thing with me. What do you want?
147:17
Speaker A
What do you need them for? I maybe I was going to go and pay off Rave the rest of what we owe him.
147:28
Speaker A
Maybe that's what I need them for. If you was going to do that, you would have done that already.
147:37
Speaker A
And now I've got more spheres than I did when I left them with you.
147:41
Speaker A
So, I need what what is left to go and pay him off. Well, I ain't got them.
147:48
Speaker A
Where are they? I spent them. That's it. On what? Protecting the family, Bear. That's what I spent them on. It It was important.
148:11
Speaker A
Why are you giving me the third degree now? Never ask me about this So.
148:16
Speaker A
Uh You We can hear like the sounds, right? Of like little herd as you know, of people all around.
148:24
Speaker A
Uh Bear is going to fully put up a sphere of silence around the two of them. So, no sound in or out.
148:32
Speaker A
She like jumps a little bit. She's like, "Oh." What's this about? How'd you do that?
148:41
Speaker A
Me alone. Who did you give these spheres to? Okay. I had to pay some people off. You have to pay some people off. I I owed maybe I owed people money.
148:58
Speaker A
Uh You owe people money? Who do you owe money to? Quintus Vent. Bear law. Quintus Quintus Storming Vent.
149:07
Speaker A
Do I know who that is? Uh you do not know who that is. Okay. And who is Quintus Storming Vent?
149:19
Speaker A
I used Why he's guy. You know you know he [gasps] Knocker. This isn't a joke.
149:30
Speaker A
You think I'm joking? Do you know how many spheres I left you? This is not This is not a paltry sum, okay? This is a life-changing amount of spheres for everyone for anyone who is not beyond rich. Do you understand that?
149:44
Speaker A
And it is gone. So, where did it go? I um He works for Rive.
149:58
Speaker A
He's one of the sons. And you didn't think you would tell me? Also, what what we're paying double duty now? Why are we paying him? We pay Rive.
150:13
Speaker A
That's what That's the agreement we have. So, why are you paying him? You think a guy like Rive isn't going to change the arrangement after everything goes completely [music] to the winds?
150:26
Speaker A
Why are you not telling me? Actually, Bernice. That's what you haven't been telling me.
150:37
Speaker A
Never Nighf, right? What about her? Yeah, now. What? Apparently, someone that she put off ordered very large chunk of spheres to Rive.
150:56
Speaker A
You're besties with him now. Ain't you? We've worked together. You robbed the Davitari of him to work together.
151:08
Speaker A
Is what you did. Yeah, you knew that. I told you that. It's a little more than working together.
151:15
Speaker A
Working for a guy named Tonovair, right? Right? Who told you this name? Who told you that? Why we Quintus Vent?
151:23
Speaker A
I'd say. And who is Quintus Vent? Who is Quintus Storming Vent? He's a son of honor and he works for Rave.
151:32
Speaker A
And he said that you've been working with Nev the Knife. And Nev the Knife is on the ultimate list of damnation with Rave right now.
151:45
Speaker A
And that means he's going to take his pound of flesh from all of friends.
151:50
Speaker A
And that's just the way it's going to be. And we're his number one cuz we already owe Rave money.
152:00
Speaker A
So he said pay up. Instead of letting him nickel-and-dime me, I just gave him the whole big pouch.
152:06
Speaker A
And he said he'd leave us alone. He said all he was going to do was go back to watching us.
152:12
Speaker A
And so he did. You believe that? Well, I mean, it was that or I keep meeting his eye line from my window when I'm going to sleep every night better.
152:27
Speaker A
You like being watched? While you're standing there getting ready for bed. You pull down the blinds.
152:37
Speaker A
You don't matter cuz you know they're still out there watching. Right. So what would you have me do?
152:48
Speaker A
I could come and tell you. Then what are you going to do? You're going to kill him?
152:53
Speaker A
Is that what you're going to do? You're going to make things even worse for the family?
152:58
Speaker A
Our solution so far has been paying people. So I paid him. So. Sound comes back.
153:18
Speaker A
Okay. Dervan, come in. He pops his head down. He was like literally hanging upside down and he like pulls himself in with this like flourishing somersault into the window.
153:41
Speaker A
Yes. May, mate, this young lad is going to be staying here for a little while.
153:49
Speaker A
I'm your new brother. I need you to teach him how to read. I need to teach this little ragamuffin how to read now cuz all that is all that is that what [music] you're saying?
154:04
Speaker A
Yes. Who is this kid? You know what? It doesn't matter. That's fine. Yes, I'll teach him how to read.
154:13
Speaker A
That's all right to me. And I think Beryl Art just takes his sister in a big hug.
154:28
Speaker A
Oh, she quietly starts to like shake and cry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry about it.
154:38
Speaker A
I didn't mean I didn't mean Just tell me. Yeah. What you did wasn't wrong. Just storm in. Tell me.
154:52
Speaker A
I didn't feel like I could. You've been so busy, Beryl. I didn't want to give you another reason to go hunting sons.
155:11
Speaker A
So, I didn't say nothing. There's some important things in these documents that I want you to tell Dervan.
155:32
Speaker A
Get him right up on all of this. Yeah. I'm going to take a walk.
155:40
Speaker A
Oh, yeah. All right. You go on walk. I'll Just real quickly, is this This man-child how to read and write?
155:50
Speaker A
I mean, you can start with reading it to him, but yeah, no. Man-child is in like, he's a man and also a child, not like he's a man-child as in he's childish. That's what I mean.
155:59
Speaker A
No, I'm a man-child. He's a man-child. He's a child who's a man. You're a man-child. Yeah, that's right.
156:05
Speaker A
Yeah. No, I'll speak You know what you should do before you go on your walk?
156:12
Speaker A
Should have a shower. Uh You should wash off all the dirt. when I get home.
156:18
Speaker A
You can shower when you get home. when I get when I get home. You said that for like 3 days.
156:29
Speaker A
Well, I was going to have a shower today and then bath or like storming sky fell on my head.
156:35
Speaker A
Right. Well, it's just, you know, it's fine. Mom uh Mom's making curry wraps [music] tonight.
156:48
Speaker A
Spicy as all get out. No, that's great. That's good. Yeah, she bought some fresh chill.
156:57
Speaker A
Uh she chopped it up and marinating it for about a day. Uh She bought some peppers uh from down at the market. She bought them back and one of the kids got into them. Bad luck.
157:13
Speaker A
Yeah. Hey, have you ever seen Have you ever seen a little Hadassian sprinting to the local water and well and dipping the bum in it?
157:24
Speaker A
You ever seen that? I've seen you do that. You like Hey, Durvin, shut up.
157:32
Speaker A
You didn't hear that. You remember when I used to do that. The pepper's hot like that.
157:41
Speaker A
Yeah. It's going to suck. But it's going to taste real good. Crank. So, go for your walk and then the wrap should be ready by the time you're back.
157:49
Speaker A
Okay. Okay. All right, Durvin. It's time. You got a pen? No, I don't have a pen. Why would I have a pen?
158:04
Speaker A
Durvin. Do you have my pen? I have your pen. [laughter] And then you That's the last thing you hear as you walk out of the door.
158:17
Speaker A
The name was Quintus Vent, right? Quintus Venth. Vent, with a th. Great. Um this has derailed all my plans. Bedlam are is walking to raves.
158:32
Speaker A
Ah okay. All right. Yeah. Sorry. Yeah, uh we derailed everything. rolls and everything. [laughter] Yeah, all right. Okay.
158:44
Speaker A
Yeah. Certainly. Certainly. Certainly. So. Rave runs a business. A three-story tall uh octagonal gambling house. It's one of the more ostentatious uh buildings within the lower, uh quadrants of uh of Kholinar.
159:13
Speaker A
Now, Kholinar is, uh a city of, you know, pretty hard-pressed, uh uh devotion to Vorinism. Now, this means that gambling gambling halls are looked down upon, illegal in some capacities, and so as you look, you understand that everything that happens within
159:42
Speaker A
those walls is surreptitious. It is on the down low. Now, you look at the gaudy portraits that are painted on the outside, liberally applied after every high storm, different painted scenes of ridiculous, uh uh acts of, uh you know, hedonism and
160:09
Speaker A
debauchery. The fact that it works so openly has been sort of a, uh an open secret. So, there is, as always, the large, uh um vomitorium that's this open archway breezeway, uh that leads to the inside of this
160:36
Speaker A
octagonal building. Um there's a set of two guards. Uh tall, Alethi, strapping individuals. "What do you want, Bear?" says one of them.
160:54
Speaker A
You recognize him, never having bothered to learn his name, unless you say you wanted to.
160:59
Speaker A
"I've got business." "Uh no, you had business. And what is that supposed to mean?
161:16
Speaker A
Make your payments. Stop hanging out with Nev the knife. And don't come back. Rave doesn't want to see you.
161:31
Speaker A
That is completely understandable. Why do I get the feeling you're not going away? Tell him to stay away from my family.
161:48
Speaker A
I will pay him what I owe him. And that is it. You know, he said that you might say something like that.
162:08
Speaker A
And he has a uh he has a message for you. Great. He does. It goes something like this.
162:20
Speaker A
Never in the entire time that you or your sad excuse of a family have done dealings with me, have you been the one to arrange what our dealings are.
162:37
Speaker A
Your father dug your family's graves. Pay the money or get buried with him. You are an absolute fool.
163:05
Speaker A
What is your name? My name? Yeah. If you ever need [music] to know my name, I'm sure Rave will give you it.
163:26
Speaker A
Okay, great. Then I'll just go ask him. [sighs] You think so? You're going to get through us. You understand that?
163:41
Speaker A
Okay. All right. The tough guy act is really impressive and it is fooling absolutely nobody.
163:48
Speaker A
We both know that you can't stop me. Uh um what um Oh, this is going to be really bad. What color are their eyes?
163:58
Speaker A
Oh, both dark-eyed. I mean, let's be real. You're beneath me. Couple of dark-eyed stooges thinking you're going to tell me how to do what I'm supposed to do.
164:09
Speaker A
I'm better than you inside and out, top to bottom. And you know that, and that's why you're so angry.
164:19
Speaker A
You hear in the back of your ear. Do you know what you're doing? Did you know what you're doing right now?
164:28
Speaker A
Is this fight Is this you're going to you're going to fight these guys? Yeah, I'm picking a fight.
164:33
Speaker A
I need them really mad. Okay, yeah. All right. Yeah, no. Okay, yes. Okay. Ha. Okay, fight. Fight. We're fighting. Okay, yes. Truth Watchers are fighters. We're fighting. It's fight time.
164:42
Speaker A
going to fight. We're not going to fight. Right, like just calm down, okay? You You hear her like hyperventilating in a body that does not require breath.
164:51
Speaker A
Uh Neither. We are picking a fight. We are not fighting. Okay. Just trust me.
164:56
Speaker A
Uh, the man walks up to you. less than you. Yeah. [sighs] I know that we all pretend, you know, when it we pretend not to bring it up and we just understand that it's true, but nobody ever really says it and I
165:27
Speaker A
just needed you to hear it. I've been hearing it for a long time. And he goes to headbutt you.
165:40
Speaker A
Yeah, I let him. Uh, he blows your uh, nose open. Uh, there's a crunch of cartilage.
166:00
Speaker A
I let the blood run down into my mouth and I spit on his face.
166:09
Speaker A
[snorts] You going to walk away? No. Not unless he chase me. He's going to try to grab you. Yeah.
166:34
Speaker A
Okay, now I'm going to try and dance away from this guy. Sure. Uh, we can we can hand wave a little bit of this.
166:42
Speaker A
There's not really a demonstrable way that they're going to be able to hold you down. Uh, you have access to stormlight and they Yeah. they don't.
166:51
Speaker A
Uh and you have access to progression and light weaving and all sorts of different tricks and and and trappings.
166:58
Speaker A
And I would like you to describe to me [music] how you get away or what you are what what you're after here.
167:07
Speaker A
I am trying to goad them away from their spots guarding the door. Okay. You pretty successfully accomplish that.
167:15
Speaker A
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I'll I'll keep them coming down the street down the street.
167:21
Speaker A
[music] And then I'd like to duck into an alley. Yeah. Uh and hopefully I'd like to duck into an alley and create an illusion of myself walking down a different alley. A light weaving of myself walking down a different
167:38
Speaker A
alley. Taunting them still. Yeah. Absolutely. And then I am going to book it back towards Rave's building.
167:49
Speaker A
You sprint in through this large open air archway. Making your way inside. Uh before I get there, I did want to say before I get there, I would like to light weave myself into the one guard who hit me in the face.
168:05
Speaker A
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. You make your way inside. And where do you go? I presume Rave's office?
168:16
Speaker A
Yeah. Okay. Sitting inside on the third floor of a gigantic opulent office is Rave. You see a bedecked bespoke ridiculous opulent office space.
168:39
Speaker A
Uh high vaulted ceiling. Chandelier filled with spheres. Cascading glow all the way throughout the room.
168:49
Speaker A
Bookshelves covered in books. An attendant reading one aloud as you enter the office. Rave sitting there.
168:59
Speaker A
That needling Weasley man. The greasy, slicked-back hair. And the almost too-long fingers. What do you want?
169:16
Speaker A
Um Hey, boss. Uh Barty Crouch was here. And? He said he has something you want.
169:33
Speaker A
What could he possibly have that I want? I don't know if this is true. I don't think it's true, but he said he has a shardblade.
169:43
Speaker A
No, he doesn't. And he'd be willing to trade. No. That he took off Tasmir's body.
169:51
Speaker A
That he what? That he took off Tasmir's dead body, sir. After he killed him.
170:05
Speaker A
Okay. All right. And he said he's willing to make a trade for the shardblade, but he wants you out. All the way out.
170:19
Speaker A
Well, he's not going to get that, but I'll take the shardblade. He also said he'd only give it to you in person.
170:28
Speaker A
Well, where is he? I don't know. Okay, well, arrange the meeting. Find him. If he has a shardblade, and that's true Well, if that if it if he has a shard blade and it's true, yes, idiot.
170:43
Speaker A
Arrange the meeting. sorry. So, I just I thought you said that you he you set the terms, not him.
170:47
Speaker A
So, that's what I told him, and then he told me that, and then he stormed off.
170:51
Speaker A
After after I hit him in the face, too. I head-butted him right in the nose, and he fell down. I do set the terms.
170:57
Speaker A
But now you're saying that he won it. So, I don't understand, sir. I'm going to steal it from him, you idiot.
171:05
Speaker A
Oh. He doesn't get to just own a shard blade. I doubt that he even has one. It's probably just another scheme.
171:16
Speaker A
Yeah, that makes sense. So, you want me to set up the you want me to go?
171:24
Speaker A
To his house? What did I say? Well, I was just wondering if you wanted me to go by myself, or if you wanted me to bring back up, or anything.
171:34
Speaker A
Have you forgotten how we operate? Are you Pairs. Pairs. Your pair. Sorry, sorry. I'm I'm panicking. I'm freaking out. He said he has a shard blade. I'm freaking out.
171:45
Speaker A
And you believe him? You believe Bear Lord Juror. Bear Lord Juror. Sir, what if he stabs him with a shard blade?
171:55
Speaker A
Then you die to a shard blade. What if he stabs you with a shard blade?
172:06
Speaker A
In what place in all of the Cosmere do you think that Bear Lord Juror pulls his before I pull mine?
172:15
Speaker A
In what [music] The light weaving failed. The what the light weaving fades away. What if Bear Lord Juror stabs you with a shard blade?
172:32
Speaker A
Stay away from my family, Rafe. I would like you to roll the most important intimidation check of the entire series.
172:41
Speaker A
Yeah. Uh eyes are fully glowing red. The stakes are raised. Yeah. That's good. That's good.
172:59
Speaker A
You need to beat a 24. Intimidation. Well, that's not good enough. I'm going to Cuz I can do something, I think, probably.
173:10
Speaker A
I would like You can give yourself advantage, can you not? I would like to use Teela Mhm.
173:20
Speaker A
Okay. to help me with this. Okay. I would like to use two focus to have Teela help me with this.
173:31
Speaker A
Yes. Okay. Um there's a certain amount of emotion that is transferred between the Nahel bond of a Night Radiant and their spren.
173:53
Speaker A
Teela recognizing the stakes, realizing the gravity of this situation, feeling the intensity that is pumping through you right now.
174:17
Speaker A
Teela appears before both of the individuals inside this room. Her lower half is a crystalline crisscrossing brilliant red [music] dripping icicle.
174:39
Speaker A
And her top half is a brilliant crimson smoking feminine figure. Rave, I have seen your death.
174:58
Speaker A
I've seen the many furtive futures of Bert L'Orangeur. I have looked into [music] the spiritual realm and I have been touched.
175:08
Speaker A
I am an enlightened advanced creature of the cognitive realm. I am a spren. Spren of mist, of truth.
175:25
Speaker A
Cognizance precognizance. And I've seen every single future of this man and none of them not one do you live.
175:45
Speaker A
You can die tonight or you can die in a soft bed far away from Kholinar.
176:00
Speaker A
And you can reroll that. With the raised Holy okay. Okay. Okay, so that's an 18 on the die.
176:11
Speaker A
Okay. Plus two. You need to be 24, remember. Uh-huh. Raise the stakes. Come on, baby.
176:23
Speaker A
That's a blank. I am going to use opportunist. That's what it's called, right? Yeah.
176:30
Speaker A
Once per round, you can reroll the plot dice. Yep. Yeah, you can. It's a two, which brings you to 20.
176:43
Speaker A
a Two is a Two is a What's a on the The one is a two, the two is a four, the five and the six are opportunities.
176:50
Speaker A
Yes. So, that makes it a 24, but there's a complication. But, there is a complication.
176:58
Speaker A
what that could be. Okay. Am I going to die? Is that the complication? [laughter] Rave looks to you.
177:12
Speaker A
His eyes full of fury, indignance, imperious, self-assurance, and superiority. I think that there is only one miscalculation that you've made by coming here.
177:42
Speaker A
And I understand it. So, the plan is to give me death. And you have seen it. You You You're You're spren.
177:59
Speaker A
I can accept that. I'm going to make my last days solely devoted to tearing down the Juror family.
178:14
Speaker A
Going to see your spren laid low. Going to slowly peel apart the rotten onion that is your little community.
178:24
Speaker A
Going to crush little herdaz under my feet. And when and well, if I guess, you do stab me with that Pilfered Shardblade.
178:35
Speaker A
There's not going to be joy or revenge or anything like that cuz you'll have nothing left.
178:43
Speaker A
You're dancing with the wrong one. You could have just paid me. You made bad friends and worse decisions.
178:50
Speaker A
And now you're going to pay for it. And then he draws from a sheath at his side a materializing 10 heartbeats Shardblade.
179:12
Speaker A
Long thin needle-pointed at the very end, dripping bits and drips of mist. You have a chance right now.
179:27
Speaker A
It's a chance to be miserable. But it's your chance. Run. What do I see in the room really quick?
179:51
Speaker A
Uh the walls are covered in uh bookshelves. Uh the desk that he is uh sitting at is has little trinkets and chachkies on it. Um you know, a little a little globe of uh Roshar.
180:03
Speaker A
Um a uh another set of books. There's a paperweight. Um a an ashtray for the pipe that sits uh still slightly smoldering. Um there is a dresser uh um behind the desk uh filled probably with documents, etc., etc. You can tell
180:19
Speaker A
by looking at it. There's the chandelier full of uh spheres sitting in the uh set into the ceiling. Um the a big set of wooden doors uh in behind you, thick carpets on the floor. Uh That's about it. Seating. There are also
180:38
Speaker A
chairs. Guys, I don't want to die. Okay. Ah, sorry. I'm panicking. Cuz this shardblade is not my my shardblade. I cannot summon this shardblade. That is not a thing I can do. That is not a thing I can do. So, I
181:44
Speaker A
have to fight this guy. I almost died already. To a guy WITH A FREAKING SHARDBLADE.
181:57
Speaker A
Shallan looks over to you nervous. All right, well, time to go. [laughter] Uh good job, Rafe. So good so good to see you again. Oh, yeah, I'm Seems I have to run.
182:25
Speaker A
Yeah. And Berdolais is going to close the door. And as he walks away, he's going to take out the bottle of oil in his pack.
182:47
Speaker A
He's going to drip it along the floor. And then he's going to light it with his spark flicker.
183:01
Speaker A
And go home. Okay. And he's going to look at Tila and go, "We are stormed right to damnation. We are in so much trouble. Why do you let me do these things?
183:18
Speaker A
Why did you let me do that?" Because I wasn't lying. It's good. That's really good to know.
183:32
Speaker A
Okay. Okay. Now, that is good. We beat him. We did? You have an else caller, a light weaver, and a wind runner at your back.
183:59
Speaker A
He's a petty crime lord with a dead man for a sword. We win. We just need to make sure that he doesn't hurt too many of us.
184:16
Speaker A
Yeah. And you need to learn how to fight. I do know how to fight.
184:22
Speaker A
No, you don't. But that's okay. Fear does. Why does everybody think I don't know how to fight?
184:31
Speaker A
Cuz I've seen you. I'm good at it. You're You can fight people that don't know how to fight.
184:44
Speaker A
Yeah, okay. I could get better. No, you're right. I could get better. But I think we're going to have to go to Vadana and let her know things are about to get real messy.
184:56
Speaker A
Yeah. Yeah, I think so. I think we should also get everyone together. Yeah. It was a nice break while it lasted.
185:08
Speaker A
That was horrifying. Yeah. I like that Dervan kid though. Yeah, he's crying. Yeah, he's nice.
185:23
Speaker A
He's a good guy. I just Why they got to mess with us? I'm already paying them. I don't get it. I don't understand. Why do they have to put more pressure where there's already pressure? I was paying them. I was doing
185:38
Speaker A
what I'm supposed to. Why? [snorts] I am I don't I don't think um I don't know if you're Dad was the only member of your family in the Sons.
186:08
Speaker A
What did you just say to me? It's just I'm You connect dots. I I connect dots and I mean If there's still a connection there, it would make sense that they're trying to push.
186:30
Speaker A
Maybe one of them left or they they know something they shouldn't. Maybe they weren't a member. Maybe they just know something.
186:42
Speaker A
But I think that there's a little bit I think I think your family's hiding things there.
186:50
Speaker A
I mean, your sister kind of proved that tonight. I don't want to believe that.
187:00
Speaker A
I don't either. It's just How could your dad move throughout the city like that?
187:14
Speaker A
Your family don't know nothing. They know nothing. Her dad seems are thickest thieves. Share everything. Community is everything and you're saying that he is part of some secret organization and didn't come home and say nothing to his wife or kids or nothing. I don't know. I
187:38
Speaker A
just I'm I don't know. I hope I'm wrong. And if I am, then it's something even worse.
188:03
Speaker A
Let's Let's Let's get the gang together, hey? Yeah. Okay. Let's do it. Let's do that.
188:13
Speaker A
We're going to zoom out from Bear. For the record, I'm so sorry. [snorts and laughter] Hey, everybody.
188:26
Speaker A
All improv. Not a single bit of that could be planned. No, it sure couldn't cuz somebody would have said that's really dumb. Don't do that.
188:39
Speaker A
[clears throat] Yeah. Yeah. So, my question to the get to the group is for Well, first of all, the predication for you all getting together is absolutely that the next day. Nine days have passed Sorry, eight days have
188:56
Speaker A
passed. For the ninth, you get together. The predication is that you have the ball the next day.
189:09
Speaker A
You are receiving a dossier. You were told to meet somewhere and that you would be contacted. Where do you meet?
189:23
Speaker A
It shouldn't be the Sheath. No. No. I'm going to keep calling it the Come on, we got to be at the Spark Flicker, of course.
189:33
Speaker A
Okay. going to go to the same place we always go to where people have seen us go before?
189:38
Speaker A
Yeah. They got good food there. Hey. They got [laughter] If you have another idea, I'm all ears.
189:46
Speaker A
no, I'm just I'm just being mean. Yeah, I would have said my house but you all don't know about it Yeah [laughter] Fresh appearance yeah Cool okay You arrive at the spark flicker Verdana has the customary full plate of chowder wraps and bowls of
190:09
Speaker A
spicy curry with lava grain and you know Flatbreads etc etc And Drinks and all of that You [music] gather in downstairs Say her your hellos And you guys want to chat before Getting into it Hey Neve, has Van always been a little
190:52
Speaker A
Uh Yeah A little bit Okay Just wanted to make sure that wasn't some new thing Are they hazing you already?
191:04
Speaker A
He tried to kick me piling food onto her plate like an absurd amount of food He tried to fight me like right away Yeah I thought I warned you about that did I did I not take bite Yeah but like
191:24
Speaker A
It happened so fast I mean mine's been spying on me for apparently like actually days I told you I was sending my people to watch your house I didn't think you that you meant inside my house Oh Durbin already knows where you live.
191:48
Speaker A
Yeah, no. Hey, sure. I I got a new place. But I don't know if you know that or any probably do if I'm being followed, too.
192:03
Speaker A
Uh What? Congratulations. That's awesome. Yeah, like where? I describe where it is. [laughter] Have you Have you had a housewarming party yet?
192:17
Speaker A
Is that a thing? [laughter] Yeah. No, I've been working. Well, then sounds like we're going to have to have one soon.
192:35
Speaker A
What does that entail? Well, just invite all of your friends over and you know, we have drinks and uh hang out.
192:48
Speaker A
When are we are we going to have time time for that? I mean later, like week from now?
192:56
Speaker A
Wait do from today sounds perfect, yeah. Wait, do people do gifts at these things?
193:03
Speaker A
Ooh, good idea. Yeah. Jez pipes up immediately. Yes. Yes, you get gifts. Good ones, ones that they would like. Be smart about it.
193:18
Speaker A
Nev We don't have to go through all that, yeah. He's never bought a present for anyone ever.
193:22
Speaker A
Well, well, well, he's appearing to the whole room, so Oh, no. Yeah, he's like, "No, no, no, a proper present a for anyone know, but please, please Nev Nev needs to learn proper protocol when it comes to acquisitions and such."
193:37
Speaker A
I do. Yes, you do. What happens when you stand in front of a high lord, huh?
193:46
Speaker A
Why would I be standing in front of a high lord? Well, maybe because you're serving in the grand army of Knights Radiant when all the things have gone have gone well.
193:54
Speaker A
Maybe you're sitting in a Maybe you're at a at statesman dinner and you don't know which spoon is for soup and which fork is for salad.
194:01
Speaker A
Ah! No, I don't I don't I don't I'm not going to do that. I eat with my hands.
194:06
Speaker A
That's how people eat. That's crazy. Forks and spoons. Forks and spoons. [laughter] Literally eating with her hands. That's actually above table. On Roshar, a lot of people do eat with their hands.
194:23
Speaker A
That's normal. That is very normal, yeah. Yeah, that's why a lot of foods are handheld, yeah.
194:29
Speaker A
Mhm. And I'm not standing in front of any high lords [music] or eating with forks.
194:34
Speaker A
That's barbaric. No, thank you. I'll get you a present, I guess, if you want one. I can't [music] No, we don't we don't have to do that.
194:48
Speaker A
Great. No, there will absolutely be presents. You don't have to get [clears throat] Work on the gets you something nice.
194:55
Speaker A
I got a new place. Do I get presents? Is that how that works? Yes.
194:59
Speaker A
You took over your old place. Shh, they don't need to know that. Yeah, but it's it's so that's the now. It wasn't mine before.
195:09
Speaker A
Exactly. Are you decorating it the way you want to? I'll say you all notice that Nav is louder, more animated, and eating more than like a couple bites of food right now.
195:22
Speaker A
None of you have ever seen that. Ferdinand is drinking. [laughter] Drink, too. Nav has a drink.
195:37
Speaker A
[laughter] Um you hear Frame in the back of your ear, uh Fira. Take the presents. What are you doing?
195:46
Speaker A
Take the presents. Any advantage. Any advantage. Then they're going to think they're going to think No, they're going to think. They're going to think that you Oh, yes, I've ingratiated myself uh to this to this powerful else caller, and
195:59
Speaker A
you use that you use that because you don't owe them anything. You know he can hear you, right?
196:04
Speaker A
What? [laughter] I think spren can't hide themselves like other spren. Nope. Nope. He is just on the back of her ear, though.
196:20
Speaker A
Tiny. Actually, we should be a little careful. Um I was told not to spend time with you all.
196:33
Speaker A
Um and we've been seen spending time together. Told you so. Takes bite of chouta wrap.
196:45
Speaker A
[laughter] Yeah, actually, along those lines, um I had a bit of a run-in with Rave.
196:58
Speaker A
And he didn't like that I was spending time mostly with Nav. And um things did not end well.
197:14
Speaker A
Are you okay? Yeah, no, good. I'm good. Just wanted to let you know that he's probably going to be a little aggressive.
197:35
Speaker A
I mean, he was already going to kill Nerf. That part I know. He was also going to kill me eventually, you know, after he milked me some more. He was definitely going to do away with me, which means
197:47
Speaker A
Fiora and Alstrom were probably next eventually, you know. Maybe not Alstrom. But um [clears throat] What did you do?
198:01
Speaker A
He also might know that he might know that I killed Tezamir. At least he thinks I did it.
198:13
Speaker A
Why? I lost my temper. Our story was that Tezamir ran away. Yeah. Do you think he believed you?
198:47
Speaker A
I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. I don't know. 50 50 on that one. I'm sorry.
199:04
Speaker A
He went to my sister. He sent one of the Sons of Honor to my sister.
199:11
Speaker A
And has been watching her and she said some things that I don't think I would like to repeat.
199:24
Speaker A
And I lost it. And I'm sorry. What do we do? I mean we break into a palace, I guess.
199:52
Speaker A
Oh, yeah, that. Tomorrow. What I need to get an outfit. Also What? Yeah. You can make an outfit.
200:12
Speaker A
Oh, that's right. Yeah. You can make a whole new person if you want. Yeah.
200:21
Speaker A
Yeah. I mean, if we have to go [music] in as servants instead of guests, they might give us uniforms.
200:29
Speaker A
But we don't know yet. Cuz we haven't received above table, we haven't received the dossier, correct?
200:34
Speaker A
No. That was supposed to happen uh today. Okay. Yes. We'll know more when we get that dossier from Ton of Air.
200:52
Speaker A
How does one buy a suit? I can You want to go shopping? take you You're a tailor?
201:00
Speaker A
yeah. No, I don't want to go shopping. These are my clothes. This is what I wear.
201:05
Speaker A
Gestures, too. Same outfit that they wear every day. Do you have like 10 of those and you just wash them and change into a new one? The same one?
201:16
Speaker A
I've got I've got a couple. I just got the one. The other ones aren't in very good shape though.
201:30
Speaker A
I got to sew all the anyway, it doesn't matter. Um I know a tailor we can take you.
201:39
Speaker A
Never looks uncomfortable. Never mind, maybe I can just get up on the roof and wait until things happen and then jump in.
201:46
Speaker A
You can steal the suit. If that makes you feel better about it. Nope. Feels like a lot.
202:06
Speaker A
It does. But the money is good and I need it. Uh you hear coming down the stairs um um Verdana.
202:29
Speaker A
Uh I'm supposed to let somebody down here. You're supposed to let somebody down here.
202:36
Speaker A
There's there's somebody down there's somebody up there and they're they're looking looking for y'all.
202:44
Speaker A
Yeah, okay. Come on in. It's a it's a it's a with a big old shin fella.
202:56
Speaker A
Is that normal? Shin? Yeah. Uh He's got big old eyes. Is that normal? All right.
203:06
Speaker A
You know him? Uh we are expecting someone, but I'm really sure who. Yeah. All right. All right. All right.
203:17
Speaker A
Uh he's armed. So am I. Yeah, but like usually you guys say Armed with what?
203:26
Speaker A
He's got a big sword. How big? Like, you know, like normal gets up. Normal length kind of thing. Like Yeah, no.
203:38
Speaker A
If it's just a regular sword, I mean, I think I'd be a little bit more stressed if it wasn't a sword, you know? If he didn't If he wasn't armed then he probably has a shard blade cuz everybody's got a freaking shard blade
203:47
Speaker A
in this town apparently. You've been running into lots of shard blades Belor? A poor Belor?
203:57
Speaker A
Hey Belor, shut up. Is that something you've been running into? Just the once. Okay.
204:10
Speaker A
By the way and she points to the back wall. I did what I said I was going to do.
204:23
Speaker A
Uh smile ear to ear for the first time in, you know, a day. Just like big dumb grin.
204:28
Speaker A
Nev- Nev looks like a kid in a candy store. And immediately gets up. [laughter] I'm going to keep him up here for like about 15 minutes and then y'all can check out your new digs down there.
204:43
Speaker A
And then you know, I'll send him down. How's that sound? That sounds great. Um Thank you.
204:53
Speaker A
Nev opens the door in the background while this is happening. you all. It's good to see you all as well. It's good. It's nice.
204:58
Speaker A
In case In case this, whatever it's going to be, goes to complete and we got to run you just need to know things are going to get really really bad really soon.
205:10
Speaker A
How bad? It's probably really the worst ever. You know there's like an apocalypse happening right?
205:20
Speaker A
And it's coming here. Yeah, so like I don't know how bad it's really going to be compared to that.
205:28
Speaker A
Okay, let me put it like this. If you know Bear the Large Aura, it's worse than the apocalypse.
205:39
Speaker A
Well, that's just Thursday, right? Like I'm glad everybody else is comfy, okay. Well, when you're just going to spew out vagaries and and and act like it's going to be the end of the world for knowing you. Yeah, I'm not going to treat you as
205:53
Speaker A
serious as you want. We can have a serious conversation about how absolutely horrible you've sent me and mine to damnation in a while, but until that time, you got a cool secret room in behind there with a tunnel leading out
206:05
Speaker A
of here. So, go and look at it. That's already gone. Yeah. [laughter] Uh it's a sliding it's it's a sliding rock door. Like it's it's like a legitimate it's like a work of engineering like a 100% you know, it slides out it sets into the
206:22
Speaker A
wall. It's not a perfect seal, you know, it's a bit noticeable if you know what you're looking for, but like it is hidden for the most part. Um and yeah, it leads into a room. The room has weapons along one side uh spears and
206:37
Speaker A
shields and uh daggers. Um the uh uh the other side has uh emergency food and emergency water and you know, uh extra pairs of clothing and it's like a real hideout. It's a like somebody spent a decent amount of money on this.
206:58
Speaker A
And then there's also a tunnel. A metal grate that is locked that leads down.
207:09
Speaker A
Nevis just grinning ear to ear. Uh Jez Jez Jez whispers into into Nev's into Nev's ear.
207:19
Speaker A
Sheath doesn't have this. You can take notes. I mean Never mind. Do you You clearly don't understand the concept of money.
207:38
Speaker A
Um of which I don't have that much. Don't ruin this for me. Yeah, it's really neat.
207:54
Speaker A
Uh Wave shoots off of Alister. "The room The room is a lie. Oh, the whole room is a secret secret lie room.
208:07
Speaker A
OH, IT'S A LIE. It's a lie." And he's like thrumming and spinning and twirling. And he like shoots down into the hole and then pops back out. He's like, "Mhm, the whole room secret secret room." It's pretty cool. They did a good job
208:27
Speaker A
hiding the door. It's good. It's fancy. Now, Wave, are there any secret rooms in this secret room?
208:37
Speaker A
Maybe. Mhm, and then just zooms around. Going in cracks, out of cracks. No. I don't think Wave likes this room at all.
208:52
Speaker A
What's that? What did What did you say, Bear? Sorry, I missed that up. Oh, I said I don't think Wave likes this room at all.
209:01
Speaker A
Mhm. No. Bad lie. He loves it. Love it. We could make our house like this.
209:16
Speaker A
Secret doors. Mhm. Make a fabrial. A fabrial that hides doors. Mhm. Above table where where located like there's this there's this tunnel that goes down, right?
209:34
Speaker A
Yeah, yeah, for sure, yeah. Do I know what it connects to? Stands to reason that it connects to the sewer system.
209:40
Speaker A
Okay. Like the water supply. roughly like what section of the sewers? I mean, it's the it's the mercantile district. It's like Central City.
209:48
Speaker A
Okay. Yeah. But it's not Nev is It'd be tough to say that Nev's like, I know the exact sewer. Like, if you get if you got down there, you could navigate out easily enough. But like, to know right now, you could become
210:03
Speaker A
familiar with it super easily. But like, in the moment, probably not. Yeah, I think that's what Nev's paying attention to is oh, there's a tunnel here. That's very useful.
210:14
Speaker A
Mhm. Yeras going to briefly glance around the room, but not really be excited. And she's going to breathe in stormlight.
210:24
Speaker A
Ooh. Ouch. And she's going to wait until she hears somebody coming down the stairs.
210:32
Speaker A
Okay. Oh, yeah. Bear Delar's going to sit down and like have like his have his dagger out and like look like look really cool like twirling it on like the table.
210:42
Speaker A
Everything we just heard. Yeah. Okay. Do I look cool? Alstrom, do I look cool?
210:52
Speaker A
Are you trying to look Yeah, does it does it working? Yeah, it's working. Yes.
210:57
Speaker A
Okay. What you need to do is like can you lean back in the chair a little bit so you're just on two legs?
211:02
Speaker A
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Don't fall back. DON'T FALL BACK. DON'T fall back. I'm good. I'm good. I'm good.
211:07
Speaker A
Okay. Uh Frame in the back of Fira's ear whispering this time after being called out for having no cognizance of volume.
211:18
Speaker A
Your friends are stupid. Fira just shake her head. You hear the click-clack of boots coming down the staircase.
211:32
Speaker A
The second she hears that, she's going to um activate transportation surge to try to learn emotions and motives of the person coming down the stairs. So, she's going to reach out Yep.
211:47
Speaker A
her safe hand arm [music] and Starlight's going to not really like blaze or fill in her eyes. It's going to look like ink soaking paper and like fill into her eyes.
212:00
Speaker A
Oh. going to um snap in to Chase March to see if she could learn this person's motives.
212:09
Speaker A
You are on that roiling sea. And you see this flame starting to approach you.
212:30
Speaker A
And you reach out spirit to spirit to try to connect and understand and feel emotion.
212:39
Speaker A
And give me an insight. Yeah. I'm good with that. 16 A 16, okay. So, you get emotions of confidence, of secrecy, placidity, a calm.
213:16
Speaker A
A lot of people's flames are wild gusts, dancing. This is steady. It comes down, comes down as it gets a little closer.
213:30
Speaker A
You don't feel any danger. But you do feel almost a little bit of otherworldliness.
213:39
Speaker A
Mhm. Like something that feels like it's educated about all things. You get the same kind of vibes when you look at your companions within this space.
213:54
Speaker A
A kind of like higher learning, higher knowledge. And you snap back. Yep. Quickly as she snapped in, she's going to snap back.
214:05
Speaker A
She drops her arm. And she's going to turn to her that look cool. I She's going to whisper, "I don't think they're here to hurt us." I like Maybe not yet.
214:23
Speaker A
You hear Frame. I mean, when you say it out loud that you're unsure whether they're here to hurt you, you kind of give it away, don't you?
214:39
Speaker A
And walking in past that door is someone that you recognize. It is Clem. The owner of Honor's Hold.
215:00
Speaker A
Wait. Clem was Shin the whole time? The Shin man isn't who walked downstairs. [sighs] Hey, monster.
215:26
Speaker A
Hey folks. I'm going to guess you have a few questions, and I won't be answering any of them.
215:41
Speaker A
You've met my associate, Tanvir? Your associate? Yeah. Yes, one of my peers. Okay, great. Do you have the package?
215:56
Speaker A
I do. Mhm. He pulls out from a side pouch uh a folder uh that contains a sheaf of papers.
216:07
Speaker A
Some of them containing portraits, maps, uh some of them uh containing write-ups. One of them being a portrait of Lady Azure.
216:22
Speaker A
I am going to be your correspondent for this portion of your operations underneath the uh our organization.
216:33
Speaker A
And you notice that he's lost any accent that he might have had before. He speaks with a very strange bit of clarity.
216:45
Speaker A
Okay. Who are you? I am Clem. No. Yes. I grew up with Clem. You did?
217:00
Speaker A
Since we were kids. Yes. Same one. Who are you? I am Clem. The same Clem who works for the Sons of Honor?
217:17
Speaker A
Yeah, you're allowed to make any assumptions that you'd like. At this point, it doesn't make much of a difference.
217:24
Speaker A
I've been assigned to you. Of course. have you How long have you been working for these people?
217:36
Speaker A
A very short time after you and I uh went our separate ways. Are you really shocked that he's a double agent?
218:05
Speaker A
Yeah. No, yeah, I am. I mean, I also wasn't expecting it, but Nev Nev looks up from the dossier at Clem.
218:19
Speaker A
Takes one to know one. Well, that was really suspicious. I'm here to drop off a dossier and I'm here to deliver a little bit of a message.
218:39
Speaker A
I'd like to do that and then leave. I've been given dispensation to discuss a few things about who I am and what I've been doing and that is simply to clarify so that there's not going to be any
218:55
Speaker A
if further worries about the Honor's Hold. Uh my name is Clem. It is. I am the same Clem that you grew up with. We were friends.
219:07
Speaker A
Uh we had a falling out. I started working for anyone that was going to be able to get me out of the situation that would well essentially we put ourselves in.
219:22
Speaker A
You remember. So, I was given one method out. It's because I was good at what I did.
219:31
Speaker A
Just as good as you. So, I did a collection of jobs. I worked my way up.
219:42
Speaker A
I'm a salary man now, it would seem. But, I collect information. Just like I did then.
219:53
Speaker A
I do the same thing now. Now, I need to answer a few things because I know these questions are coming because I know you, Bear.
220:03
Speaker A
No, I'm not helping you against the Sons of Honor. No, I can't give you any information on them.
220:09
Speaker A
No, I'm not shutting down the operations of Honor's Hold. No, I am not going to stop you from operating against them.
220:18
Speaker A
They're going to be operating out of my establishment. You use that information as you wish. It has very little to do with me.
220:28
Speaker A
This dossier contains all the information that you're going to need on Lady Azure, her appearance, her mannerisms, and roughly where she's going to be located. It also has a collection of a few people of interest that are going to be at the uh at the
220:42
Speaker A
event. You're going to want to avoid those people. [sighs] I am aware that you are Knights Radiant.
220:50
Speaker A
That does not surprise me. It does not matter to me. I've been given a rough lowdown on what your powers are to be.
220:57
Speaker A
The surges that you hold. That is not a tool in your pocket that you can use besides the ways that you can actually use them.
221:11
Speaker A
Is there any questions that you have for me? About the job ahead. What are our roles?
221:25
Speaker A
Are we to attend as guests or are we servants or what? That has been left to your discretion.
221:31
Speaker A
You have been hired as full-blown contractors. You can accomplish this mission however you would like.
221:36
Speaker A
Uh there are suggestions, uh methods of egress, or sorry, ingress uh into the into the palace itself. You can make your way in through the uh the the receiving docks.
221:46
Speaker A
You will be able to get in through the front gate if you dress the part. You have been given invitations. Uh these invitations are attached to persona. You can use them if you wish. If not, it will not be suspicious. There are many
221:58
Speaker A
people that are going to be in attendance. Uh it has been suggested that the uh feminine, uh that being Navani and Shallan, uh dress the part. Uh there are uh in incredible uh ways to go unnoticed if you dress the part and head inside.
222:17
Speaker A
Uh the masculine have been uh encouraged to either keep completely to the shadows and go uh as unnoticed as you possibly can, or you should go in as servants.
222:29
Speaker A
Berdelar, you in specific. There is an opportunity. You are a light eyes. If you change your appearances to the to a certain point, you may be able to get inside and act the part of the persona that has been giving to you given to
222:44
Speaker A
you. It'll give you access to certain areas within the palace that the dark eyed ones among you will not. This does not mean that you should be using the the the powers of illumination.
222:54
Speaker A
That will run out. You aren't going to be able to hold enough spheres. And I also can't promise that there aren't going to be people on the premises that'd be able to recognize what you're doing.
223:05
Speaker A
But, that being said, anything else? I look to the rest of the crew. Anything else?
223:22
Speaker A
I I've put the dossier on the table, so anyone can look at the everything.
223:28
Speaker A
Heras looking at it. I can give you a full rundown on exactly everything that's in it between sessions, for sure.
223:39
Speaker A
But, yeah, just to not go over it, but it does contain what I described.
223:43
Speaker A
That's what I was going to ask. I'm good. So, you're out or you're not out?
223:59
Speaker A
Nev's asking claim this. I'm out. Clarify. The Sons of Honor. Oh, I was never in the Sons of Honor.
224:13
Speaker A
Oh. But, I think you are. They do. Okay. I suggest that you don't go and blow that cover. I can't stop you from doing it. It would be a complication for us, but not one that would be unaccounted
224:33
Speaker A
for. No, it's better for you to be exactly where you are. We know. Yeah, messed up enough. So.
224:53
Speaker A
Well, if no one else has any questions, then I guess we won't take up any more of your time.
225:02
Speaker A
Time is the one luxury that I actually have at the moment, so that doesn't worry me. But, if you are finished with your questioning, I could simply go back to my bar.
225:16
Speaker A
But, Lar stands up, walks up to him. And then, probably for the first time, the rest of you get put on the outside of a bubble.
225:34
Speaker A
I'm going to ask that you don't hit me. I'm not going to hit you.
225:44
Speaker A
I am sorry about the way things went. I'm sorry I didn't try harder to fix things.
225:53
Speaker A
I am learning very slowly that I am an I don't think that at all.
226:05
Speaker A
Well, I'm glad you're not a part of the Sons, and I don't know exactly what all this is. I know Ten of these is a piece of work. I don't know if everything is.
226:13
Speaker A
So. Uh We operate on a very strange basis. Tonneville is eccentric even among us.
226:22
Speaker A
Uh He's effective and so they keep him around. Uh he's operated with us for as far as I know many many years. So, he carries a certain amount of weight, but uh If you didn't do what you did
226:44
Speaker A
all that time ago, I wouldn't be who I am now. I have power. Bare.
226:52
Speaker A
Real power. Authority. Influence. My life is self-determined. I don't I don't I'm not afraid anymore.
227:08
Speaker A
I have purpose. Look, I'm not sorry that you went and made something of yourself. That's not what I'm getting at. I'm just I'm sorry the way it went and I'm sorry I don't see you anymore.
227:22
Speaker A

Speaker A
So. Would you do me a favor and just punch me in the face? No.
228:15
Speaker A
Come on, please. No. Come on. [clears throat] The very thing that put me on this path and the reason why we get to be back together again is because I stopped listening to you.

Speaker A
He says nothing and his face is a stone mask. Yeah. Well, I'll take my leave.
229:49
Speaker A

230:25
Speaker A
Then how can you know? I don't like the way they look, and they look hard to move in.
230:31
Speaker A
I want to try on a dress now. Jazz nods at that. They are notoriously hard to fight in.
230:37
Speaker A
You've never worn a dress. No. I mean, we've all tried on our moms' dresses, right? That's just normal thing.
