Lecture on "Dhruv Maharaj goes back to Godhead" by HH Gopal krishna Gosawami Maharaj on 05-06-2014.

[Music] Krishna, hey Krishna, Krishna Pranad. [Music] Is Mad in the audience? Mad? Okay, we'll talk book distribution. [Music] So, we've been reading about D Maraj for the past several chapters, and what is this chapter called? Goes back to Godhead. So, D's history is of great interest to devotees, and in the concluding verses of this chapter, it is explained that anybody who hears this narration of D Maraj going back to Godhead will get pure devotional service, will get purity. So, D Maraj is one of our heroes in material life. People have heroes in spiritual life also. We have heroes, but our heroes are devotees like D M, devotees like Prad Mahaj, these exalted devotees. So, we have read how Mahaj, when he was just young, he was insulted by his stepmother through a 5-year-old child trying to sit on his father's lap. His father, King With Anad, had two wives, Sunti and Sui, and he was more attached to Sui, and Dua was the son of Sunti. So, when he tried to sit on his father's lap, the innocent boy—actually, his stepbrother was already sitting on one lap, so he tried to sit on the other lap. When his stepmother pulled him down, she said, "You go and worship the Supreme Lord first, and after you worship the Supreme Lord, by the Lord's mercy, you will take birth from my womb, and when you take birth from my womb, then you'll be able to sit on your father's lap." In a way, what she said was true—that only when you have the mercy of the Lord can you be put in a very fortunate position. And the father saw his wife, heard his wife chastise his innocent son, and he didn't say a word. In English, they call this a henpecked husband. Have you heard of that? Henpecked husband? No? Anyway, there's an English phrase, henpecked husband. It means the husband who dances to the wife's melodies. So, King, so D's father tolerated everything, and D went crying to his mother, but even before he could reach his mother's room, she had already heard what transpired because the stepmother spoke so loudly that everyone, all the servants in the palace, also heard the chastisement that was received. So, Dua went to his mother. The mother said, "Son, I can't help you. Your father treats me like a servant, but only God can help you." And decided, "I should go and look for God." Dua was determined to find God, but of course, in the beginning, his worship was sakhyan and sakh. In the beginning, he was highly motivated. He was motivated to get a very opulent kingdom, more opulent than anyone who has realized, even more opulent than Brahma's, who is the Creator. So, he had this—I just want them to hear—switch over to Hindi, they can hear. So, in the beginning, he was motivated. So, he wanted to have a very opulent kingdom. And as he was leaving home, who appeared over there? Explains that. He was just talking to his mother, and now the mother wasn't even there. So, N always shows up at the right time, right place. In his—so now the said, "Why are you taking the words of your stepmother so seriously? This is not the age to look for God. This is the age to go and play. You're a Shria, you're just 5 years old. You have shut your blood, so you're feeling very insulted, but don't take the words of your stepmother so seriously." So, actually, was testing towards determination, just like in our Krishna conscious movement, when somebody becomes a devotee, he does not get initiated right away. Of course, there are many spiritual movements where you have what you call instant di. Like you have instant tea, instant coffee, you have instant di. You walk in with one name, and you walk out with another name, and you have thousands taking at the same time. But in proper, establish a process where the candidate understands what's the meaning of dsha, and the candidate is observed by the team of vnas who see how serious the candidate is about spiritual life. So, now the Mone was also testing through was determination. He said, "This is the age to play. Why are you looking for God?" They say, but when he saw he was determined, then what did say? One, you can associate with those who are more advanced. Two, you can associate with those who are equally advanced. Three, you can associate with those who are less advanced. Now, how do we behave in these situations? The behavior varies. For example, if you meet somebody who is more advanced, now the says you should become joyful. Why? Because by associating with those who are more advanced, you're going to get some spiritual wisdom that will inspire you to also make efforts to advance spiritually. When you meet somebody equally advanced, then we should make friendship. And when you meet somebody less advanced, then you should display compassion. In the purple, says generally when you meet somebody more advanced or more successful than you, then you try to pull him down. "Oh, he cheated and became big." So, what you know PR when and established a Krishna conscious movement in the West. So, some of his God brothers were very happy, but some of them said, "What made Hipp into Dev? We noted making Hipp into Deves." So, what did is nothing. So, but in spiritual life, when you meet somebody more advanced, you should become joyful. What do you do when you meet equally advanced? Now the said, "Make friendship." But in material life, when you meet somebody equally advanced, you try to brag. You try to show, "I'm better off than you are. I have a better car than you. I have latest fashionable clothes, better watch than you have." But in spiritual life, when you meet somebody equally advanced, make friendship. What does it mean? Make friendship means working together to spread Krishna consciousness, just like we together do japa, together we attend the bhajan class, together we go preaching, together we go on book distribution. Together, this is what it means to make friendship. And when you meet somebody less advanced, the said, "Then you display compassion." But in material life, when you meet somebody less advanced, what do you do? Try to exploit. The rich nations are famous for exploiting the poor nations. The rich people are famous for exploiting the poor people. So, anyway, so now explains how you relate to different levels of association and practice extreme charity. First month, every 3 days, fruits and berries meant for monkeys. Second month, every 6 days, what? Dry grass. Third month, water once in 12 days, once in 9 days, that's all. The fourth month is still on one leg like a column. In the fifth month, with his toes, he was able to press the earth, and all the demigods fell suffocated, and he started meditating on the Lord, and he got such great ecstasy in meditating on the form of the Lord. So, Dua practiced austerities, and as Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita, 18th chapter, should not be given up by anyone. Posterity is one of the wealth of the brahmanas. It's one of the ornaments with which you decorate yourself, just like in material life, people decorate themselves with ornaments, jewelry. So, devotee decorates himself by practicing the principles of austerity, and Krishna gives the devotee the ability to practice austerity when he sees the devotee is making a sincere effort. austerity so without aity you cannot attract the Lord that is why in very difficult to understand very difficult to conquer but through the medium of theia you can capture the Lord so through performed the extreme austerities and he was

they should be very exemplary Exemplar in their behavior exemplary in following spiritual standards humble in their dealings with others very polite in their dealings with others and if that is the mood then Krishna will help us develop these

qualities we read about these 26 qualities we read about the importance of humility we chant every day the prayers every day we CH so every day we chant so this has put into practice soaj had all these qualities he was very kind to the poor

and the innocent and he considered to be the father of all the citizens the king or the head of state must consider entire population to be like his family PR Lord Ram as you know would go in Disguise in the night isn't it he go in

Disguise in the night to find out if the citizens were facing any problems and if they were facing any problems he would take action so the king must be like a father to all the citizens not that I only care for my

children no the king must care for the entire family for the entire citizenship so that is the idol behavior of a king soaj was an idol King and what we need today an idle form of government so in the vas we read about so many

examples so by preaching this knowledge can be made available to to everyone in the Vic system they also had taxation like these days they have taxation these days the governments are always thinking how toce some new tax is it

as taxes would be used for what for the welfare of the people therefore nobody cheated they didn't have a black economy because because everybody had full faith in their rulers because they would not spend one penny for themselves all the tax

money would be spent for the welfare of the people and what happens if one gets elected to a position of responsibility president prime minister King and he doesn't use that position for guiding Society on the path of God
