Speaker A
[музика] EPE 32. Point condition sent. Привіт! Це Анна Огойко і подкаст "5 хвилин української". And today we special grar point conditionalent aboutup Nat. Чим ти займаєшся? What do you do? Пам'ятаєте, чим займається Андрій? Він працює фрілансером. Він пише статті, робить переклади і веде свій блог і канал на Ютубі. You can listen to that conversation and my explanation in prev EPE number 31, and now I would like to do the last of it. Слухайте. А уроки англійської ти не думав проводити? Було б класно, але поки що я не знайшов собі учнів. А я б хотіла потренувати розмовну англійську. Можливо, ти зможеш позайматися зі мною? Можемо спробувати. Наталка питає: "А уроки англійської ти не думав проводити?" Didn't you think about giving English classes? Андрій каже: "Було б класно." It would be great. Було б класно. This is not action in the past present a condition, но it would be great. In English, we use would to make conditions. I would like or I'd like. In Ukrainian, there is only one letter. Sometimes we also say "b" usually after consonants like в, but лаб. Plus, we always have to use the verb in the past with було. Ласно, b було. Plus було. This is the conditional sentence. Another example from the dialog is: "Я б хотіла потренувати розмовну англійську." I would like to practice my spoken English. Я б хотіла — a is the verb in the past plus b. Я б хотіла. Андрій said: "Було б класно." Verb plus b. But Nat said: "Я б хотіла." This is plus verb. In fact, you can actually use any word order here. You can put before or after the verb, but in the case of bu, ноно doesn't sound right. There is just too much b there. No, we just say "Було б класно." Conditionals arebs in use condition sent hypoetic situ. Це було б весело. It would be fun. Це було б весело. Я була б рада. I would be glad. Я була б рада. Also, we use it with wishes. I'd like to. Я б хотіла потренувати розмовну англійську. Він хотів би викладати англійську. He would like to teach English. Він хотів би викладати англійську. Ви хотіли б добре знати українську мову, правда? You would like to inian well. Ви хотіли б or can also ви б хотіли. Another use of conditional is to make a polite request. Ви могли б мені допомогти? Could you help me? Ви могли б мені допомогти. Ти змогла б позичити мені гроші? One. Ти змогла б чити мені гроші? As a rule of thumb, use conditional when they use would or could in English. Of course, there are exceptions. For example, in English we would say: "I'd like a bch please." In Ukrainian, we don't really use that structure. We just say: "Я буду борщ" or "Можна, будь ласка, борщ." So we don't use conditional to make a request about things like a meal or an object. We say Mo ad. How would you say it would be great? You use бу and чудово. Було б чудово. Чудово. Why було? Because this is a form for це було. Це було б чудово. It would be great or just було б чудово. It would be nice. Було б добре. Було б добре. Next: She would like to learn Polish. Would like. We say in Ukrainian want, would want. Вона хотіла б вивчити польську. Вона хотіла б вивчити польську. He would like to learn Ukrainian. Він хотів би вивчити українську. Хотів би. We use би because it's after consonant. Він хотів би вивчати українську. They would like to learn Slavic languages. Вони хотіли б вивчити слов'янські мови. And that was it for today. Remember, you don't have to master the conditional right away, but do. Було б добре. It would be nice if you just knew about this. Maybe this way you slowly get used to that and know what it means and then slowly start using it. As always, more exercises for practice and short summary of this grammar rule can be found in the premium lesson notes that are available by subscription. And come back next time for a vocabulary episode. Бажаю вам гарного дня чи вечора. До [музика]. Побачення. Comfmu. На все добре.
