#1 DIALux evo – Beginner´s Guide — Transcript

I welcome you to this first video clip on Dialux Evo. This is the beginning of a comprehensive sequence of videos which will be published by DIAL. My name is Michael IM. I'm a trainer with DIAL in Germany. Today, we'll start with something very basic. In just five minutes, I will show you how to work with Dialux Evo. We will be building just a simple room, we'll be integrating luminaires, start the calculation, and have a look at the predefined outputs. Well, let's

start. The easiest way to create a new project is by clicking on the empty rectangular room symbol. Our exemplary project is a manufacture of leather goods. We'll specify the assessment zone and the application in these two rows. These inputs have an effect on the

requirements for this room. The room size shall be 9 m in length, 11 m wide, and the height 3 m. The wall thickness is not important in our case, so I can confirm this by clicking okay. This is our room. You can see it

either on a floor plan, a side view, or the perspective view. Those can be turned by keeping the left mouse button clicked. Movements are able by keeping the mouse wheel pressed. At the moment, we have no intention to include windows or other

building elements. Therefore, we can proceed to the light section. On the top line, this topic is indicated by the yellow symbol of a casted light. You have to choose the luminaire for your project. Next, you can click on the select button and have

three options: either use a luminaire from the history section, one of your favorites, or a catalog. The catalogs listed first are those which are installed onto your computer. Further catalogs are accessible through the additional catalogs button at the bottom. For our

case, I can launch the catalog by double-clicking the name indicated here. To select the luminaire, I can use the filters indicated within the plug-in or catalog. I'm searching for suspended luminaire, therefore I have to click ceiling pendant with direct indirect light

distribution, fluorescent light lamp. After this filtering, I can select from those products. I'm going to use this one. From the next selection, I'm choosing the dimmable item. I get shown an image, a light distribution curve, curve description of the luminaire, its

technical data. By clicking onto add to project, the item is getting transferred to Evo. The catalog may be closed. I want to keep things easy and therefore I rely on the automatic arrangement of luminaires for my room. Within this luminaire arrangement

sector, I can choose to optimize uniformity or illuminance for the room. The calculation is always based on the default maintenance factor 0.8 and the working height of 0.8 m. Step three means moving on to the calculation part. Within the top line of

commands, I can start the calculation now. The calculation can be started with a single click and we can watch the result as an image. After just a few seconds, we may still turn and move the image and we can even move into it by

zooming with the mouse wheel to get an overview or detail view into the results. We use documentation commands on the top of our page. The fastest way to present the results is to select one of the templates that are to

be found behind the select button. Compact shall be enough for this exemplary project. This includes a luminaire parts list, a room summary, and a result summary of surfaces, for example for the work plane, which is automatically generated within

this room. Now please switch on the printer button on the left side to generate the output, which then can be printed as a PDF or printed with your printer. I hope that you enjoyed this fast tour through the Dialux Evo
