In 2016, anonymous users on 4chan decided to get involved in a global conflict. They saw a video on YouTube of a rebel training camp in the Middle East. Because the rebel group had associations with terrorists, 4chan was determined to find the coordinates of the secret base. The search was on. Users on 4chan were scanning everything in the videos until they found the one thing that could help: power grids. Bingo! Using the power grids along with a few other buildings as landmarks, 4chan could triangulate exactly where the camp was. Using the criteria to scour Google Maps, 4chan would look far and wide until they found something that matched. All they had to do now was verify. They cross-referenced different parts of the video with Google Maps, and after the analysis, it was clear that they found the rebel encampment. 4chan then reached out to a blogger on Twitter who had ties with the Russian military, and they supplied him with the coordinates of the rebel base. Within the next few days, the Russian military launched numerous airstrikes on the position using the information from 4chan. Full video in the comments.
