The browser will not let me record sound

Updated 6 October 2026 · 2 min read
In shortThe browser asks for microphone permission itself. If you refused, allow the microphone in the site settings and click Try again. Tab audio (for calls) works only in Chrome and Edge.

How to allow recording

Web

  1. Allow the microphone for web.sozai.app in the browser’s site settings: in Chrome and Edge, click the icon left of the address in the address bar; in Safari, open the Safari menu → “Settings for web.sozai.app…”. The recording screen itself shows the steps for your browser.
  2. Go back to SozAI and click Try again.
  3. For a call in the browser, in the Audio source block choose Tab audio (or Both to record yourself too) and click Start recording.
  4. In the browser window pick the call’s tab and turn on “Also share tab audio”.

If "Tab audio" is unavailable

Safari and Firefox do not pass tab audio, so there you can only record from the microphone; phones have no such source. If the meeting runs in the Zoom app, open it in the browser or record from the microphone. For calls on a phone, see a separate article.

If the microphone is still blocked

Check in the system settings that the browser itself may use the microphone: on a Mac, “Privacy & Security → Microphone”; on Windows, “Privacy → Microphone”. “No microphone found” means none is connected. “The microphone is in use by another program” means that program has to be closed first.

If the tab was shared without sound

Click Start recording again and, in the window where you pick the tab, turn on “Also share tab audio”.

If the sound is lost during recording

If you revoke microphone access, the recording stops and what was recorded is saved. If you stop sharing the tab, recording continues from the microphone when it was on, otherwise it stops and is saved.
