I have taken every single part of this wrecked McLaren 600LT, and we are fitting all of those parts to this one.
Speaker A
So essentially, we're trying to build a complete McLaren out of spare parts. And by doing that, also saving us a fortune because these aren't just any spare parts. These are some of the best bits you can get for a 600LT because when
Speaker A
this car was ordered new, the owner ticked practically every single option box. Um, apart from the roof scoop. Now, in the last video, we started assembling all of the parts from that one onto this one, getting the rear frame on, the
Speaker A
wiring loom, and even the engine. And then we finally managed to get an ignition. And after hours of trying, we finally got it started.
Speaker A
Shut down. But there was a big problem. The car was pouring smoke out the tail lights, which is not a good sign for the engine. But we want to try and drive the car by the end of this video. So, not only have we
Speaker A
got to fix this issue, we've got so many other parts missing. I don't even know if this is going to be possible. So, getting this McLaren driving under its own power is not going to be a quick task. But, we have a deadline. We're
Speaker A
supposed to be displaying this car at Gravity Show for you guys to see in just one week's time. So, we have so much to fix in order to get this done and get this thing rolling.
Speaker A
We need to get to the bottom of what's causing this smoking issue. So, first thing, we drained the oil from the car and now we have refilled it. Hopefully this time with the correct amount. And fingers crossed that's going to fix our
Speaker A
mega mega smoke issue. So, let's see if she'll start any better this time or at all, for that matter of fact.
Speaker A
Is it smoky? Very smoky. Yeah. Can you not see in your rearview mirror?
Speaker A
Is it slowing down at all? Give it a rev. Oh, when you rev it, it's increasing quite drastically.
Speaker A
Now it stops. I give it a little bit more again. It'll probably spilled out into the intake or something.
Speaker A
You did spill oil on the exhaust. Yeah. Let me try and do an oil level measurement because if we overfilled it, it would carry on smoking like that.
Speaker A
Yeah. That's less a bit. Yeah. I just want to try and read the oil level.
Speaker A
Yeah. Okay, we're on. Now, to check the oil on a McLaren, you've got to start the car, which already is stupid. Then you've got to let it get up to temperature. Go into the menu, select oil level, and then
Speaker A
hold the brake and hold the throttle, which keeps the car at 2,000 RPM for 40 seconds. Then you finally get an oil reading. And if overfilled, these cars are known for smoking.
Speaker A
Now, we didn't put a ridiculous amount of oil in it, and it is saying it's overfilled, but we wanted to make sure it was right. So, we decided to check it a few more times. The car was still
Speaker A
reading overfilled, but we need to finish this service off, too, which means we can change the oil filter, which will remove a little amount of oil, which thankfully took it from overfilled to full result. I'm going to call that a win. Yeah, quite a win. So,
Speaker A
it stopped smoking. It starts on the button, and it sounds good. So, it looks like we've got to the bottom of the first problem for this video, but we want to get this car moving under its own power.
Speaker A
And for that, we are missing so many bits. At the moment, we have no suspension on the car because the suspension that came on it was ruined, but we'll come back to that in a little bit. We also have no brakes, no
Speaker A
steering. There is just so much stuff unplugged. This car is never going to be happy. And we need to try and get this as complete as possible. Maybe minus the body panels. So, here is what we've got.
Speaker A
Two brake discs. One, two. Anti-roll bar. This is kind of a subframe support. The spoiler we may as well put on 'cause it will look cool. Handbrake calipers.
Speaker A
Yeah, that's one, two, three, four things to plug in. Yep. We sent the suspension off because it was absolutely destroyed. Some of it was snapped, bent, broken, all these sorts of things. So, he sent it off to Fast MX and he has managed to refurbish,
Speaker A
repair, and even re-engineer some of these parts to be able to rebuild this suspension back to its former glory.
Speaker A
How impressive is that? You wouldn't even know they were snapped in half, would you?
Speaker A
They look brand new. They do, didn't they? Yeah, considering that bit was like bent and not even Yeah. was on the back, but it was just completely dismantled, weren't it?
Speaker A
Snapped in half. Fell apart. Yeah. Yeah. So, shout out to Fast MX for refurbishing that. It can do all sorts of supercar suspension and I believe also Thorny Motorsport holds stock of the McLaren stuff in the UK if you are
Speaker A
interested. I will leave all the links and everything in the description. But an absolutely wonderful job. And now we can start fitting that back up. First, we could fit the rear brace and then we installed the anti-roll bar that wasn't damaged in the
Speaker A
crash. Once we have all this sorted, we can begin fitting the rear suspension. There's two bolts at the top mounting it to the rear frame and one at the bottom connecting it to the lower arm. Now the suspension's sorted. We can fit the rear
Speaker A
brake disc and the handbrake as this is going to make the car happier. And finally, this bit has to go on the carbon fiber spoiler.
Speaker A
Okay, back end. We're more or less buttoned up minus the panels. The next thing we want to do because we're still waiting on some stuff for the front is look at the interior and get this as complete as possible. Now, we've already
Speaker A
got the dash and the center console in, but there's so many other bits that need to go on there as well. For example, everything in this pile. We've got the roll cage, all of the carpets, trims, bits, bobs, things, and also those sexy
Speaker A
set of seats. So, I think we're just going to start by doing the side carpets first. And for that, I think I have an idea of how we're best to do it. Right. First thing we want to do before we go sticking the
Speaker A
carpet over this is get rid of the old glue and stuff because that might cause the new glue not to stick 'cause it's all fluffy and also it's nice to have things clean.
Speaker A
Okay, now we got that off. We're just going to run a bunch of very, very thin double-sided tape all over it. Is that going to let it stick?
Speaker A
It's now time to move on to the interior. This is one of my favorite parts of this car. It's so simplistic, and to me, simplistic is beautiful. So, first thing we can do is fit the roll cage. This bolts through to the rear
Speaker A
frame, which holds that in place as well. Then, we can start fitting the carpet and interior trim panels for the rear. And the final bit that holds all this in place is the net. This has four tiny little bolts on each corner. Right.
Speaker A
We are pushing on now. Pushing on. Seat belt through here. Like so. Buckle's got to go through as well.
Speaker A
Otherwise, you can't fasten the seat belt. What's the hack for that? Well, oh, there we go. I got it.
Speaker A
And piece by piece, the interior is slowly coming together. Mickey's just over here clipping the A-pillar trims.
Speaker A
Not going to bother with the headlining yet, are we, mate? No. But apart from that, well impressed.
Speaker A
It's actually very nice to do. Just out of simplicity. There's not a lot going on in here, is there?
Speaker A
Not really. Sort of like in my brain. You know, like when it's a spider, it's a headache to do the interior, but it's just nice being it a semi-convertible.
Speaker A
Yeah, semi-convertible is good. Yeah, maybe we should just suck off the roof. It's got a roll cage.
Speaker A
Exactly. Yeah, it means it's perfectly safe. So, you're on the A-pillar trims. I think what I'm going to do next is the steering wheel airbag. This is one of those things I was super duper happy about 'cause I bought a complete
Speaker A
replacement steering wheel for my 650S and the original steering wheel airbag didn't blow. So, this is actually a 650S steering wheel airbag. And I'm going to use it on this one. I can't see why it won't work. So, uh, let's get this in.
Speaker A
Right. Let's shut another fault up on this thing. So, we've got our yellow plug, w
Speaker A
you go. And then the final thing, click it in. needs a clean, but apart from that, she's good. And it is looking flipping glorious.
Speaker A
Wow. The only thing we're missing now is somewhere to sit. These are so nice, these seats, bro.
Speaker A
They are sensational. Now, did you know, I'm pretty sure when people bought these cars new, they spec the center seats depending on how big the person was, I think. I'm not sure if that's right, but I think it might be. So, you can get
Speaker A
like small, medium, and large. Don't know what they are, but So if you don't fit in it and I do, technically it's my car, I guess. So if I'm too fat, it's yours.
Speaker A
So we had a problem getting this out. We now don't have a problem getting it back in because we've got no roof, which will make life a lot easier.
Speaker A
Let's see how they go in then. Is that passenger side? Is it? No, she's driver side.
Speaker A
Okay. He's going in through the roof. Is that driver's side? Yeah. Seat belt on hook on this side. Oh yeah, that was a lot easier, wasn't it? If you leave a lean forward cuz then I can bolt the seat belt in.
Speaker A
They look so sick. So nice in there, bro. They really make the interior. Wow.
Speaker A
Epic. I love those. They're so good. Bolts going in. Not that you guys can see, and neither can I. And the seat is in. Mickey, what do we say to that? I have a chip.
Speaker A
With one side now in, we can bolt in the passenger side too to complete the interior. Then it was time to test it out.
Speaker A
P yourself in there, mate. I'm getting in. Is it good? Oh, it's too good.
Speaker A
I'm not I'm just going full race mode at this point. Okay, you're going to hide yourself.
Speaker A
Let me just switch myself to race. It's so uncomfortable in there. It's got the old crown jaws on.
Speaker A
I know. It pinches them, doesn't it? Can I have a Yeah, she works. You know you Yeah.
Speaker A
Yeah. You know that's going to be solid. Oh mate, I feel I've done so well so far.
Speaker A
Mate, this car is like I've really I didn't really that enjoy the last one because it was such a basket case to say the least. But this is just like so McLaren have really nailed it.
Speaker A
Either that or we just bought a better car. Uh it's newer for a start. It's quite a few years, but from putting it together, we've noticed so many simplified things with them. Maybe making them more reliable, and I'm on board with that.
Speaker A
I do prefer reliable. Yeah, I do. I think it looks sick. I really like that interior cuz it's so simplistic.
Speaker A
And simplicity is beautiful, man. Simplicity is beautiful. Exactly. It's just carbon fiber monocott, some Alcantara, some seats, and a dashboard, and some pedals.
Speaker A
Well, sort of works. We'll take it. There we have it. The car now has a complete interior. Carpets, roll cage, steering wheel, dashboard, screens, controls, everything, even the seats.
Speaker A
Now, this car only has front seats, but sometimes when you're working on projects like this that keep you really busy, eating healthy, you can take the back seat, which is where HelloFresh comes in. HelloFresh is a really easy,
Speaker A
convenient way to have home-cooked food without all the stress that comes with it. It's the ultimate midweek hack. All you need to do is go online once a week and select which meals you want. Then, HelloFresh will post it out to you in

Speaker A
But for now, back to the Macka. So now, what have we got left to do? What do we need to do to get this car driving, and I think most of those problems come down to the front end. This is where most of
Speaker A
the damage was. So Mickey has just drained out the uh brake fluid. A little hack.
Speaker A
It worked a treat, didn't it? It worked. And we're going to actually keep these for future cuz like you know, sometimes you come up with an idea and it really works. So, we are moving this out the way. We've got to reposition the
Speaker A
brake servo. I keep getting that wrong. Yeah, I know. It's It's people call it weird things, but yeah, it's a servo.
Speaker A
Yeah. Uh, so we need to get the master cylinder positioned correctly. Um, and also we need to add in the column section which connects the rack to the steering wheel. So, we can do that whilst we're there and that's out the
Speaker A
way. We've also got to get this changed at some point when that arrives. We need to get our new power steering pump on.
Speaker A
But that's now if we get the steering connected and then we can move on to these sections here and get some arms and suspension on. So our mission now is to get this front end knitted up. So hopefully this car can drive. First
Speaker A
thing we want to do is take out the brake servo so we've got more room to fit the section that connects the steering rack to the steering column.
Speaker A
This was tight. It was fiddly, but eventually we got it in place. And once it was connected up top, we could tap it down onto the rack.
Speaker A
And finally, put the bolt in. Next up is the ABS module. This sits down on four rubber bungs. So, we can position this in place, push it in, reconnect the brake servo, and then run the lines from that to the ABS module.
Speaker A
Then, we can connect all the individual lines that run to each corner of the car. So, front left, right, and then the rear left and right, too. This means now we should be able to get brake fluid to
Speaker A
each corner of the car. Now that is sorted and buttoned up, we are just waiting for our calipers to come back and then we can get the braking system finished. But we need a few more bits on the car before we can
Speaker A
do that because if you have a look just down there, it is missing stuff kind of this here.
Speaker A
So at the front at the moment, we have no arms, no suspension, no anything really. And luckily right down here is everything we need to fix.
Speaker A
We've already covered off about the shock absorbers, but I now have our replacement arms for the front. Now, it's important with these to make sure you get the right ones because even though the part might have the right
Speaker A
part number on, it doesn't necessarily mean they're the right part because the 570S and 720S, I believe, share the same arms, but the 600LT has different bushes and also something else that I can't remember. Something to do with the drop
Speaker A
link. So, that's why I've gone and bought them brand new from McLaren. And we know they're going to be sweet and perfect and they're going to have the right bushes which isn't going to affect the handling on the front. So now we can
Speaker A
get these bolted to the car. We can get our suspension on, our anti-roll bar on, and then we're one step closer to getting this thing moving.
Speaker A
Lower arm is on. I'm going to pop this level sensor on. I'm going to pop this level sensor on.
Speaker A
What are you doing, Chris? Popping the level sensor on. It's got face shields. Wow.
Speaker A
Okay. Next piece is the hub, but it could not be the hub as well. Actually, um, I'm going to do the arm. Do you know what? I think you might be right.
Speaker A
That's fine. I've described that as ready. And here's one I made earlier. Right. What's next? I suppose shock absorber. Really? Now, normally these have got like a little insert in the arm. What that does is when you tighten
Speaker A
the shock bolt, it then squeezes the insert in. So, when an arm's had a shock in before, you got to push the insert back, slot the shock in, then you can bolt it back up. But because these are
Speaker A
new, they're ready to go. We like that. That is a wriggly gap to get through in.
Speaker A
Yeah, it is. But to be honest with you, I've done this in the wrong order, but hopefully it should still work.
Speaker A
No, you need the top to tilt. Can you get it all the way down first, then come back up?
Speaker A
Possible. I may have done this the most stupid way. That's okay cuz that's what I do.
Speaker A
Top arm's going to come out to get the shock in it, bud. I was just thinking that.
Speaker A
Yeah. And this has been one of the biggest complications with this build because the front end on the previous tub was so destroyed. We've got nothing to go off and no reference for how to make it go together. So, we'll have to remove or at
Speaker A
least undo some of the parts we've just put on to get this suspension in. Right, I completely mucked it up. Not completely, but I just got the order wrong. So, shock has to go in before the top arm. So, I can drop that in there.
Speaker A
Drop that back there like that. Push that roughly into its home. And I'm going to start with the top shock bolts, which go in there like that.
Speaker A
You'll go home. Something like that. Persuasion. Bit of persuasion needed. Then watch this insert here as I tighten it. You ready?
Speaker A
Mhm. See how it pinches onto the uh it just sandwiches everything. Can't quite see it from that angle, but yeah, I see what you mean.
Speaker A
It squeezed it. Now I've figured out how to actually do this correctly. I can now tighten the top arm back in. Get the rest of the shock bolts in and then get everything tightened. Then finally in with the drop link and all the
Speaker A
suspension is assembled. Now time for the anti-roll bar. Mickey, over to you on how we're going to do it whilst we do it.
Speaker A
Well, we're just going to hang it up there, mate. One bolt, two bolt, three bolt, fourbolt, five, six bolt. Thank you. How this didn't get damaged, I don't know. Bones pop out of head. Very tight.
Speaker A
Well, mechanically that should be the front end functional. We are missing pipe work. So, mechanically we're good.
Speaker A
Electronically, we're not so great cuz we're missing a few things. And then hydraulically, we're also not so great.
Speaker A
So, we need some more parts to finish this off to those parts. I hope so. What else have we got? Have we run out of parts now, Mickey? Pretty much. Yeah. Um, that's the problem. We don't know what we've got because this
Speaker A
car came with no front end. So, we're like, "Oh, yeah. We've got everything." Oh, no. We ain't. Where's that bit go?
Speaker A
Well, hopefully some stuff comes tomorrow. Yes. Because our 7-day counter is ticking. I think we now have everything we need to get this buttoned up. But in order to do that, we need to strip out a lot of
Speaker A
the stuff that we put in. the battery, the radiator that's here, the washer fluid bottle. Now, you've seen us put all this stuff in, so we're not going to mess around. We're going to get all this stuff out. Then, I'm going to show you
Speaker A
what we've got and how we're going to get this thing back together and hopefully driving.
Speaker A
Ah, so all of that stuff is now out of the way. Let me show you what we need to squeeze into this space because it's tight and not the good sort of tight.
Speaker A
So, we have our second external heater matrix box thing, which now this time is undamaged. New radiator, fresh filter, everything's gravy there. We also have power steering and nose lift pump to fit. But we were looking at this and we
Speaker A
couldn't quite figure out where everything went and then discovered we were missing something. And that something is this. It's a distributor block. So, it runs off the power steering fluid, but also supplies hydraulic fluid to the nose lift in the
Speaker A
front suspension. So, we have now figured out that we're missing this, and now we have it, which means all of this stuff can go in. And we kick off with this.
Speaker A
The hydraulic system on this front end powers two different things. You've got the power steering and also the nose lift, which enables the front end of the car to lift to get over speed bumps. It starts from the hydraulic reservoir
Speaker A
which then runs down into the pump. This will pressurize it. Then it goes from there into the distributor block which then sends it either to the power steering which is going to make the steering easier to turn or to the nose
Speaker A
lift which is going to lift that front end up. First step lube. This is going to make it easier to push into the rubbers.
Speaker A
Not very easy to get to. But no matter what we did, we couldn't quite get this distributor block into place. I think that this goes in before the steering rack. So, let's back the steering rack off and then we'll get
Speaker A
this in. Nothing. Half the problem is these pipes here. They're just I'm fighting all of them.
Speaker A
There's a little one there. Yeah, it's got to go way up, which should enable more pry. No hydraulic hose. No pry.
Speaker A
No hydraulic holes. No pry. Did you hear that? I did. Nice. Oh, I did some moving down here.
Speaker A
I also did some moving. That, ladies and gentlemen, is not how you do it. But it is done.
Speaker A
It is done. Box next, I think. So, okay. This is not going to make a mess.
Speaker A
The reason being is because we didn't turn the heaters on when we bled the coolant. So, really, we were very smart without an by accident. Yeah.
Speaker A
Right. That's out the way. That's just the scrap one that came with the car.
Speaker A
Luckily, did hold pressure, which was fine. But, we've got a whole new replacement box, which is going to go in. This space is getting tighter and tighter by the minute, which is going to make life harder and harder.
Speaker A
Um, there's a question. Does the massive bit of that go that side of the dash or this?
Speaker A
Really? That's worse. This side's not finger tight. Yeah. And there's a seat. There's a what?
Speaker A
A seat. Oh. So, this box allows heat from the coolant system to get transferred into the cabin, which is going to warm it up.
Speaker A
So, once we've got that bolted in and plumbed in, then it was time for the pump. Interesting.
Speaker A
Do it. The pump is in. Now we need to plum that battery back in. Anything else? Ah, yeah. We need to get in that pipe for the nose lift, which is extra extra compact. And the final piece to our
Speaker A
hydraulic puzzle leon, which I'm going to put there. That is going to go there. But I'm going to plug that in first because it's going to make my life easier.
Speaker A
Right, everything's fastened up there as you've just seen and looking brilliant. That is now ready for body panels, frunk, under tray, finding where the last plugs go. But now is the time that we've been waiting for because we have
Speaker A
had no brakes for a long time and that is actually stopping us starting the car right now. To start it previously, we had to do a bodgege. So, we want to get brakes on this and that. We have had to
Speaker A
do something because the calipers that were on the car, they were okay, but they had got a bit hot, a bit melty, a little bit crisp. So, we sent them off for reverb and we sent them to Brake Caliber Ref.
Speaker A
Where else are you going to send them? They've come back and they are looking absolutely brand spanking new. Thank you so much to those guys. They do a spectacular job not only making them look nice, but also function like new as
Speaker A
well. So, we can get these fitted, but we did also have a problem with the discs and the pads. I don't know about you guys, but these look like they've got a bit melty, melty, hotty, hotty.
Speaker A
Um, and I don't really want to run these, and I don't want to run the discs that were on the car either. They they looked okay. But in the deal, when we bought the 600LT, the original owner actually had two brand new front discs,
Speaker A
so we piled that in with the deal. And also, I've just gone and bought some new front brake pads. So, the front brakes will be brand new. The rears are absolutely fine cuz obviously I haven't got as hot, but the fronts were cooked.
Speaker A
So now we have everything to build up a complete braking system. Mean we can get that fitted, have a brake pedal again, and we should be close to driving this thing. So here are our new brake discs.
Speaker A
And I've just found out our cameraman hates polyyrene. So ah, you're up. Sweet. All right, let's get this on.
Speaker A
Let's do this. I've never had absolutely brand new ceramics before. Oh, these are brand spanky.
Speaker A
Yes, discs are on. So, now I can bolt the caliper onto the hub, slot in the brake pads, and then also fit these backing plates that go behind the pads, too. We can then put the retaining clips in.
Speaker A
Bolt that down. And that's one corner done. I can repeat it again on the front left.
Speaker A
And then onto the backs again. Bolting the caliper on with the pads. Tapping in the retaining pins. And that is the brake calipers on. We got to bleed them.
Speaker A
Let's talk brake bleeding. We are going to pressure bleed this. So that means using this bad boy, but it actually broke on us previously. So we have our own top that up first.
Speaker A
Yeah, absolutely. That would be lovely. Um, so we have attached a coolant pressure testing adapter onto this one.
Speaker A
And then we can use the pump from that to put pressure into it, which will then put pressure into there. It works the same. Before we do that, Mickey's going to top this up. So then when we put it
Speaker A
on and in, it's already got some fluid in. I am currently testing the brakes, which as you can see, it goes straight to the four.
Speaker A
So that's good. They need more bleeding, but now it's starting. We've got just enough brake pressure. Turn the steering wheel side to side to try and feed the hydraulics to steering.
Speaker A
The brakes are now on and looking glorious and functioning. It starts loads better than before cuz we've got proper brake pressure. But there's one more thing we want to do before we get this car loaded up on a trailer and get
Speaker A
it to gravity because it's cleish. It doesn't look pristine though because obviously it went off. It made a lot of mess when it did that on the track. And there's only one way to sort this properly. So, the ice blasters have come
Speaker A
and they're going to start from the bottom and work their way up and absolutely transform this and make it look like it's been basically zero miles, which is what she deserves.
Speaker A
Well, as always, thank you to the Ice Blasters for doing a sensational job and making the underskin of this car look like it's new. What other things you do bar ice blasting? Cuz I know there's lots of things you've added to your
Speaker A
repertoire. They've evolved. Yeah. So, normal thing for us now is to dry ice blast and go on to some sort of rust remediation preservation. So dealing with corrosion, putting coatings on from simple coatings, lanolins to your unders seals
Speaker A
all the way through to industrial ceramics. So catering for all types of cars and laser and laser. Now laser hair removal.
Speaker A
If anyone wants to get in touch with you, how are they best to do so?
Speaker A
The Ice Blasters on Instagram. The easiest way. Yeah. WW. Blasters.co.uk. Well, we'll also leave their links in the description to make them easier to find. Thank you as always. Been working together for ages now and I love it.
Speaker A
Car's looking brand new. There's one more thing we need to do. But we are missing one crucial ingredient, and it's wheels. Because the wheels that came on the car looked like this. They were curbed damaged bent broken black.
Speaker A
Pretty damn disgusting. Now, we sent these off quietly to the wheelman who has just returned with them. And I've done something which isn't to factory spec because we've changed the color of them and gone to silver. I really like
Speaker A
those a lot more. I think that's gonna look better with everything as a whole package.
Speaker A
I black wheels just get lost. Yeah. Now, one of the wheels was Yeah. pretty mullled.
Speaker A
So, it was bent a bit sideways, a bit up and down and had a dent in it.
Speaker A
And a dent in the bowl as well. Yeah. To fix the problem with that wheel, we had to just replace the wheel. I managed to find one on eBay for about 700 quid.
Speaker A
And to make a nice set for that, I think is And it's bang on as well. Well, I'm well happy with these. If you need your wheels refurbished, make sure to go to the Wheel Man. is located in Langley
Speaker A
Mill just near the IKEA in Nottingham. Is that right? Y perfect. His Instagram be on screen right now in the description. Let's get these bad boys fitted.
Speaker A
Right, that is wheels on and looking sensational. So, you'll have to let me know what you think to the silver versus the black in the comments, but at the end of the day, I think it looks a lot
Speaker A
better. And when it comes to painting it against a vibrant color, I think the silver is going to look a lot smarter.
Speaker A
But now, McLaren's are a very fussy car. And to get the most out of this first drive with this, we want to make sure is as happy as it can possibly be. That means all the calibrations are done,
Speaker A
which is not a simple or straightforward task, which is why Dips is here. Yes.
Speaker A
Long time no see. Welcome back. Thank you. We haven't fell out. No, far from it.
Speaker A
Far from it, he says. Yeah. Um, so first thing I'd like to clarify is why do we have so much trouble trying to read these cars and what is the situation with that? And so McLaren have obviously got their kind
Speaker A
of proprietary software um over certain modules. So you'll be able to read certain things but not everything. Um whereas we use um diet code which goes through and talks to all the modules, can do all the programming, the coding,
Speaker A
flashing and all the rest of it. To give you an example of how fussy these are to read, we scanned it with we've got multiple scan tools here and it actually showed up as a VWTrock 19 plate. It only scanned the engine and
Speaker A
the gearbox and when you tried to go in to see what the faults were.
Speaker A
Yeah. It wouldn't let you in. Okay. So, that's how much data we get off it.
Speaker A
So, we are just really winging it up to this point to try and see what's going on with the car. Um, so we're going to plug in with that. We've also got some other little jobs to do, but there's
Speaker A
going to be loads of calibrations to try and get this thing as happy as possible.
Speaker A
So hopefully we can get those rear wheels spinning and let's see what magic you can work.
Speaker A
Yeah. Where do you want to start off with? We'll just connect to it first. See what's going on.
Speaker A
Sounds like a plan. I was just about to say, you ready for the noise that haunts me but that now?
Speaker A
Yeah. So, what's it showing on the dash? We've got power steering fault, TPMS fault, ESC. There's all sorts of stuff. And all the power steering is now plumbed in, but we've not even when we full locked it side to side, didn't make a
Speaker A
difference to how it bled. So, I think it needs something activating in that distributor block, I'm guessing. Right.
Speaker A
So if we look here, the ones that are ghostrited, like for example 2 3 4, these are all modules that the car can't communicate with. But have a look at this number six power steering. The car definitely has it. So why can't it talk
Speaker A
to it? A lot of the fault codes on these will potentially be fault codes because it can't talk to something that's not on the car. Now, it's possible our pump is at fault, but we do have a spare. Don't
Speaker A
ask me why. So, we tried that on and miraculously we got communication. So, this is the pump that wasn't on the car that we plugged in, but it did give us communication. We've now just double checking ourselves cuz we've already
Speaker A
filled this with hydraulic fluid. We want to see if now we plug this back in if this is going to work for us.
Speaker A
Right. It is grayed out. It's grayed out, which means no coms. Can you just point it out on there for us D?
Speaker A
It is this one here. Number six. Number six. And it is gray, which means no coms, which means pump's useless. Right, pump swap. Mickey has done a stellar job of getting the other pump in. Now we're just topping it up with some hydraulic
Speaker A
fluid. And now we can try and bleed it again. Hopefully this time we've got communication and this time we should be able to bleed that up, which then should also allow our nose lift to bleed. And then we should have got to the bottom of
Speaker A
one problem and hopefully dips can then go through it better. So now we've got the new pump fitted. Let's check to see if that's going to fix our problem and bleed the system. We lock the wheel left and right multiple times and it's slowly
Speaker A
getting better. By doing this, it works all the air out of the system and allows the hydraulics to function properly. And now we also have operational nose lift. And now we want to see how happy we can make
Speaker A
it. There's a few faults still on there. One, well, the ones I'm concerned about, got an ESC fault, which I want to get to the bottom of, and also a electronic suspension fault as well. that electronic suspension fault could be
Speaker A
caused by the car being in the air. So, we're going to bring it down now and see if we can fix that and get to the bottom of the SC fault. So, this is the first time this car has ever been on the floor
Speaker A
on all four wheels in my ownership. The car's now down, but it didn't fix the fault I was hoping it to. The clock's ticking and we've got to get this car to the show tomorrow. And we were working
Speaker A
late into the night to try and get this car as close to perfectly driving as possible. But there was still something it wasn't happy about. We have managed to fix some stuff. Power steering now works. Nose lift now works. But there is
Speaker A
two faults stuck in the car that we are struggling to get to the bottom of or figure out what they are. One of them is to do with a front vacuum line for something which is front chamber vacuum
Speaker A
line. In theory, you'd expect that to be this, but there's no sensor on it.
Speaker A
Oh, I've just Googled the hell out of it and I can't find it. just pump, pipe, brake booster.
Speaker A
Anyway, so there is a fault there somewhere and it's got to be an electrical one because it comes back when you've not even started the car back up. Um, and just comes back instantly like that. So, there's something not very happy there. And
Speaker A
there was another one to do with I can't remember what the other one was.
Speaker A
Oh, one didn't have a description. Oh, no description at all. But it had a fault.
Speaker A
So, God knows what they are, but we are one step closer. But we do still have a limp mode. But unfortunately now, even though Dips and myself have tried our best, we have run out of time.
Speaker A
We haven't quit, but we've just run out of time. Ran out of time. So now we need to get this thing loaded up and on to gravity. And by the way, as always, Dips, we appreciate your help endlessly. Everyone,
Speaker A
any time. That felt a bit breaky. Weak bones. Um, if you everyone who's watching at home who isn't subscribed to Dips's channel, Dips, what is it? It's P1 Auto Keys on YouTube. And I really appreciate that.
Speaker A
That's okay, mate. Our timer has officially run out. It's time to get this car loaded and get it to gravity. And after all this hard work, we're finally here. It's time to drive this McLaren for the first time.
Speaker A
Well, this is a strange feeling. It's literally just started raining as well, which is not great.
Speaker A
We should have brought an umbrella as well. We should. Yeah, let's do this. Okay, we have no windscreen, no roof, no doors.
Speaker A
It's moving. It is moving. We've only drove it on and off the trailer and it seems okay so far. There is a million lights on the dash. There's a lot of lights on that dash.
Speaker A
But there's going to be there. It's got some P. It works. I can't believe we've gone from a bear tub and managed to build it up to something that vaguely drives.
Speaker A
Yeah, it's And I can We can touch the floor. Yeah. Or the wheel. Yeah. Don't put your finger out.
Speaker A
I was thinking about it. This is literally just a big go-kart in there. Big sense.
Speaker A
That was first. That was first. I like your go-kart. You all right? I wish I could drive this like this all the time. This is way more fun.
Speaker A
I said we don't need wind screens or roof. Oh, that was a stone. So, what should you take?
Speaker A
Verdict is it's better without panels. Yeah, just not very road legal. That looks so cool.
Speaker A
Hey, Mickey. How good is that? be a real shame for Oh no, I slipped.
Speaker A
Oh no, do mate. That's a success. Made it in. It is. Should we get everything looking nice and then we're going to jump into the cinematic segment, be really proud about how we managed to get this car driving and then explain what happens
Speaker A
next. I think that's the best way of doing that. Yeah. Should I do a I'm going to do a noise transition to go into it.
Speaker A
Okay. I am so proud of how far me and Mickey have got with this in such a short space of time. This is one of the biggest jobs we've ever tackled. And to get it to the point now where it starts and drives
Speaker A
under its own power is such a big achievement. And also getting to share this project with you guys at Gravity has been the icing on the cake.
Speaker A
We made it. The car now finally drives for the first time and we have driven.
Speaker A
might not be very far, but it worked and it didn't break, which is good. And we've completed the show. Next thing though, this car now needs to go to the body shop. They've already sent all the panels there, so they're already working
Speaker A
on those. The tub itself needs to be painted, so it's going to be a little while there. And whilst it's being painted, we're going to go off and film something else in another country. So, for the finale of the McLaren, you have
Speaker A
to wait a few weeks. But for now, thank you for watching this video. Make sure to like, make sure to subscribe, and we'll catch you next
