The Cruel Fate of Arknights' Main Heroine - Amiya

Imagine for a second yourself, young again, somewhere around the age of 14, and you've been entrusted a crown that holds powers beyond comprehension.

You're the new king of a people that aren't really your people yet. Oh, yeah, you're also the CEO of a pharmaceutical company that hires mercenaries, or rather operators, as you like to call them. And you go around the world of chaos hoping to make a difference.

We can't forget you also contracted oripathy, an incurable disease that, once again, is beyond this world. A disease fully capable of killing you in your early life if you're not careful. You're also in charge of an operation to secure the most important person on the planet, perhaps the entire universe. This individual has lost most of their memories, but that doesn't matter as they are the closest thing to family, something you once had.

Ladies and gentlemen, that is just the beginning of it. Amiya isn't the face of Arknights just because she's cute or talks the most. She's there because of the weight she carries around. She's been there from the start, and she's still around today.

Over six years of storytelling, 16 chapters later. We'll glaze over 15 of those chapters as that's what's been released in the global version so far, and the fact that chapter 15 is kind of the beginning of the end story. Amiya may not have the god-like legacy of the doctor, but as the wielder of the black crown, it's undeniable that her journey will dictate the future of life.

Amiya was born in Rim Billiton, a country known for its mighty capabilities of originium due to the gigantic Targangles prime vein, if that's how you say it. Tar- Tar- Targangles. Tar- Tar- Who cares? And heavy Cautus population, a race based on rabbits and hares. In the year of 1090, bandits attacked an unarmed convoy and killed the escorts, leaving only a small girl alive. That girl was Amiya, and the convoy's escorts were her parents. Presumably due to the convoy holding originium, the attack resulted in Amiya contracting oripathy, but thankfully someone was nearby to rescue her from the burning wreckage.

That someone was you, the doctor, and would later become her guardian as Rim Billiton was known for throwing infected orphans out to die. You having some spare room in your heart to care for this child could not let this happen.

So, you pick your ass up and carry her back to get treatment. This was during the doctor's pilgrimage across Terra, so for quite a while Amiya would travel with the doctor and see the world outside of Rim Billiton. She would watch and learn from him about the land and people, stories about his past, stories about the cosmos. She becomes fascinated by the doc's work, and the two eventually form a bond that carries forward for years to come. Like I said, the doctor is essentially a god, so anyone who knows what he's capable of would treat him with utmost importance. But at this point, Amiya doesn't know this. Yet, he's the most important person in her life. After the pilgrimage, Amiya and the doctor returned to Babel where they meet the other two most important people to Amiya, Theresa and Kal'tsit.

There really isn't too much explicitly said about Amiya's interaction with Kal'tsit, but Theresa pretty much becomes her foster mother. Amiya gets raised by her two guardians. They protect her, educate her, and most importantly, love her amidst the sorrow of losing her parents. Theresa is a special individual. She is the current king of Sarkaz, the rightful owner of the black crown. Her vision of the future is, let's say, a little different from the doctor's and her twin brother. The Sarkaz are a people of suffering, desperate to do anything to crawl out of their horrible fate, even betrayal. Theresa foresees a bloody resistance to Babel and her rule, and thus reluctantly makes a decision that would forever change the fate of one Cautus girl and the fate of an entire planet. We've covered the Babel incident in the doctor's video. So, without reiterating too much, basically Amiya is chosen by Theresa and the crown itself as the successor to the king of Sarkaz.

Not long after, Theresa is assassinated by her brother and the military commission of Kazdel, and Amiya fully transforms into the outblood king, a chimera composed mostly of Cautus blood, but also a little bit of Sarkaz due to the crown's influence. Still, to the Sarkaz people, she is not one of them, especially to the Revenants. And as far as they can tell, an outsider has stolen the crown to push her agenda. Of course, at the age of 11, Amiya barely understands what it means to bear the crown in any sense. Over time, she finds a way and must accept being their new ruler, carrying the heritage, power, knowledge, and potential doom of Sarkaz kings. And it's not like she can give the crown away. It's embedded into her consciousness.

Why don't we talk about the black crown for a moment because it's a very complex topic that even I'm not the most confident explaining. So, here it goes. The black crown, also known as Civilite Eterna, is no ordinary symbol of royalty. It's actually an ancient relic created long ago by the predecessors, the doctor's people, that was originally a tool to record history. And we're talking alien quantum technology, an instrument capable of recording trillions and trillions of terabytes of data. Obviously, the concept of a terabyte doesn't exist in Arknights, but, you know, you get what I mean. The appearance of the black crown itself was actually not intended by the predecessors. And because, for whatever reason, they like to create things that essentially become autonomous AI, the new look was equivalent to a bad omen. Meaning the original function became a subfunction. If that flew over your head, that's fine. Same here. I'm basically saying this thing is insane. It has the power to play god. And if Amiya isn't careful when she accesses its potential, it could kill her, or worse. Thing is, she uses its power all the time, like tapping into the emotions of others and invoking powers of previous kings. Thankfully, the rings on her fingers keep things in check, but as you'll see, sometimes she pushes herself, especially when it comes to saving the doctor. So, Amiya inherits a legacy she never asked for, a god-like superpower wrapped in symbolism.

Now, with explaining the black crown out of the way, we can jump back to how she essentially became the CEO of Rhodes Island. Following the devastating Babel incident, Amiya, Kal'tsit, the unconscious doctor, and other remaining survivors of Babel flew Kazdel.

new organization called Rhodes Island. [music] Ever heard of that name? Not knowing what else to do with a comatose doctor, they decide to place him in a sarcophagus in Chernobog [music] where they hoped he would sleep, recover, and,

you know, stay safe. For 3 years, he would remain in stasis. [music] Thus, 3 years pass with Amiya growing up as the king of Sarkaz. At the age of 14, or earlier, doesn't really matter, she becomes appointed as the nominal leader

of Rhodes Island, the CEO. Rumors of a group called Reunion start to emerge, [music] a radicalist movement composed of infected led by the one and only Talulah. Skipping over a lot of detail, they basically target Chernobog hoping to capture the mobile city to be used as

[music] a weapon, literally. Rhodes Island being nearby start to panic as not only Reunion is planning [music] some crazy [ __ ] but a catastrophe is marching its way directly towards the doctor's [music] resting place.

Catastrophes are originium mega storms, let's say. Not good. Not good at all. So, Amiya leads a team of Rhodes Islanders to [music] infiltrate the now Reunion-infested Chernobog. And this is fundamentally where the game's story begins. After the successful rescue operation of the doc,

the trio of Rhodes Island is completed. With the inhuman commandeering capabilities of the doc, the operation to save the city from the conflict begins. [music] It is the Chernobog crisis where Amiya's resolve is tested. Nearly 2/3 of the

city's population perish. [music] Devastating losses from all sides are numbered, but Amiya presses on.

Eventually, this leads to the incident in which Amiya nearly breaks down. A little girl around the same age as her gets caught up in the Reunion movement.

Most notably, her brother being a ringleader. Misha wants nothing to do with Reunion and just wishes her brother would return to her side safely. Long story short, Amiya ends up killing both of them as Misha would eventually side

with Reunion shortly after her brother's inevitable passing. This act alone destroys Amiya. Misha was just an infected little girl with similar ideals to Amiya, but because of the radicalization of Reunion's movement, she would end up dead just like all the

others. Amiya understandably asks herself if any of this matters. She feels completely powerless despite having the king's powers and the doctor at her side. [music] Questions constantly linger in her mind. Was there a better way? Does [music] death have to

be the end all of conflicts? This incident solidifies what Amiya is to the story [music] of Arknights. A leader with a style defined by empathy. She cares and refuses [music] to see people as expendable despite wearing the heavy

crown. A crown with a history of untold destruction worn upon the heads of kings leading their people to war.

Amiya's lineage and black crown tie her directly to Sarcaz eschatology, to the legend of the Lord of Fiends. A [music] prophesied figure said to herald the end of the world. During the Chernobog incident, Amiya [music] and company come

face-to-face with Reunion's legendary ringleader, Patriot, aka Boldrakaste. The last pureblood Wendigo left on [music] Terra. Rhodes Island attempts to reason with the towering Wendigo, but it goes [music] nowhere. Which is understandable considering we had just killed his adopted daughter, something even the

community still feels awful about to this [music] day. And so, a clash of ideals begins. Through the black crown, Amiya peers into the long centuries of [music] Patriot's life. The family he lost, his son's death in the Great

Rebellion, and the choices that slowly [music] stripped away his humanity and honor. The Wendigo stands tall, but the battle takes its [music] toll. In his final moments, Amiya feels pity and weaves visions of his lost family to comfort him. Suddenly, Patriot snaps

back to reality and fixes his gaze on the one standing before him. The young cautus girl, the black crown hovering above her head, is the Lord of Fiends.

The ancient prophecy spoke of a Sarcaz king who would slay the last Wendigo and usher in the apocalypse. Realizing the supposed [music] bringer of the end stands before him, Patriot charges forward [music] in a final rage-filled attempt to destroy

her. Rosmontis and Kal'tsit throw everything they have into stopping him, but even then, he pushes through until he doesn't. The old warrior finally succumbs to his wounds and infection.

Yet more importantly, he hesitates. Amiya stands right [music] before him unmoving. Seeing her now more clearly than ever, he rejects [music] fate at the very last moment. How could someone so young, so small, truly be the harbinger of destruction?

Amiya's path continues to be defined by difficult choices. [music] When to rescue, when to risk everything, when mercy must give away to survival.

[music] Across Chernobog, Lungmen, and the crises that follow, she learns to be better at making those calls. Her negotiations sharpen, her resolve [music] hardens, and she learns when to comfort, when to heal, and when to confront those who stand against her.

Each decision carves her philosophy a little deeper. Loss becomes a constant companion. [music] Guilt follows close behind, especially in the case of Misha, along with doubt as [music] countless lives fall by her hand. And yet, she endures, shaping

Rhodes Island into something [music] far larger than herself. Over time, Amiya's arts evolve both visually and symbolically. [music] Taking powers from Clelon, a Sarcaz king from over 6,000 years ago, she manifests her own version of the wrathful cerulean flame to

[music] bring an end to Talulah's reign over Reunion. The result is a pitch-black sword forged from [music] an unknown material. Its demonic design eerily echoing the prophecy Patriot once spoke of. However, with the involvement of a special individual in chapter 14,

Amiya's appearance shifts. The harsh blacks [music] and reds give away to far lighter hues, closely mirroring that person's gentle [music] presence. This change reflects Amiya's evolving view of the world. Alongside the doctor, her resolve is reforged, and Rhodes Island's

ideals begin to manifest in tangible victories. She still carries [music] the weight of war's death toll, but she takes solace in knowing that without their intervention, the outcome would have been way worse. One thing remains unchanged though [music]

and that is her undeniable bond with Civilight Eternia. She's grown way more adept at wielding its power. But as chapter 15 shows, [music] with the return of one of the most important figures in all of Arknights, that connection demands five packs of

Red Bull and an undisputed, unwavering commitment. Like I said before, chapter 15 is the Arknights chapter. Nothing showcases or defines the game's vision more clearly than the sacred text of dissociative recombination. I wish I could tell newcomers to just read this chapter

alone, but honestly, without context, it's kind of a bunch of gibberish. I've already glazed this chapter plenty, so let's talk [music] specifically about Amiya's involvement and finish off with a bang. It's been 3 years since the war of Londinium, and Amiya has fully

[music] stepped into adulthood, carrying the weight of Rhodes Island as its leader. Peace, if it can be called that, doesn't last long. One day, PRTS, Rhodes Island's terminal system, begins behaving erratically. Events that should be impossible start bleeding into daily

operations, and Kal'tsit quickly identifies the likely cause. [music] One of the three great originium seeds was tampered with during the war.

Priestess has awakened. Seeing as [music] this is equivalent to facing the queen of catastrophes, doctor devises a plan. If they're going to confront a predecessor, they need predecessor big boy knowledge. Civilight Eternia still holds vast amounts of sealed

information, and there may be just enough left [music] inside to give them a fighting chance. Huge problem, though.

The risk [music] is extreme. If something goes wrong, their consciousness could be trapped or altered [music] beyond recognition. No one truly understands the consequences, and [music] that uncertainty alone makes the decision terrifying. Amiya doesn't hesitate. She and the doctor take the

dive together, entering the sealed domain of Civilight Eternia. [music] The system resists her presence as it was designed to deny beings like her access to knowledge that would disrupt [music] the natural course of the world. The strain is overwhelming, pushing her to

the brink almost immediately. Civilight Eternia says, [music] "Okay, that's enough, you two." And they are ejected from the system, returning with their minds intact. The information they recovered later proves vital in holding Priestess [music] at bay. But victory

comes at a cost. After Kal'tsit gets snapped [music] out of existence, Amiya is pushed beyond her limits once more, channeling the data through the black crown [music] with her arts. The results are super effective, but as you might

have guessed, her body shares the damage. When the battle ends, Amiya collapses. As she loses consciousness, the doctor and the remaining members of Rhodes Island watch their home slip into the abyss, unsure of what awaits them next.

Amiya carries more than anyone her age ever should. A crown that was never meant for a child. Power borrowed from ancient kings. A prophecy that refuses to stay buried. [music] No matter how far she's come, there's always the same

shadow following her. The Lord of Fiends. The end of suffering [music] taken too far. The version of herself that chooses control over compassion, silence over pain. We've already seen how that story could end, a world [music] sealed away in Aorzea, frozen in

false peace, all so no one, especially the doctor, ever has to suffer again. Whether that future is canon or not doesn't really matter. What matters is that the possibility exists. Amiya fights every [music] day to prove she's more than a prophecy, to prove she won't

become what history [music] expects of her, but nothing guarantees she'll succeed. Oripathy could [music] claim her, the doctor could disappear. One bad choice could push her past the [music] line she can't return from, and that's what makes her story so cruel. [music]

Amiya doesn't get the luxury of knowing how it ends. She only gets to keep moving forward, carrying [music] the weight of the world and hoping that when the time comes, she'll still recognize herself.
