It's been sitting here for 30 years because Don chose to put his kids first.

He never got the chance to finish his dream build. So, over the next few days, we are completely restoring this classic, giving Don the ride he's been waiting 30 years for.

Yeah, that's the way I remember it. But first, this is how it all started.
Speaker A
I'd imagine that's a hefty bill now. 30 years of storage. Yeah, you know, it was my baby, you know. So, yeah.
Speaker A
Wow. [laughter] Holy crap, Don. This car is amazing. Wow. This thing is incredible. And obviously, it's meant a lot to you.

And apparently your whole family, because they're here right to the right of us. I think this is the first time they've ever seen it, too.

Some of them I put it away and just ran out of time to do what I want to do with it.

One thing I'm realizing though is that this is a really big car and we have four flat tires. So, we're going to have to hopefully get air into these tires.

And then thankfully, we have a bunch of young men that can help us push because it's just Brent and me. So, we're going to need all the help that we can because these things are big and they weigh a lot.

And if these tires don't hold air, this is going to be a difficult ordeal.

And just to show you guys how massive this car is, look at this. How'd you park this in here?
Speaker A
I till I touched and then [laughter] Look at this. See, the thing is that you got to be careful with this car because the fins stick out 3 inches beyond the back bumper. So, you got to be careful.
Speaker A
Since these tires are completely flat, we're going to jack the car up so that way the weight of the car won't stop the air from filling up the tire and give us the best chance of getting these tires to fill up because otherwise this is going to be a nightmare to get out of here.

All right, fingers crossed. Here we go. Oh yeah, no problem.

All right, so I have to jack up the rear because we have these side skirts that are preventing me from getting to the tire stem.
Speaker A
So, unless this is it right down here. It is right down there. I think I have to take the hubcap off to get to it.
Speaker A
Wow, look at those. Those are nice. And now I can reach the stem. And hopefully she's going to hold. Slowly but surely, she's on her way up.
Speaker A
All right, so we looked out. All four tires are going to hold air. We'll go ahead and put that hubcap back on and then we'll push her out. We got people on every corner. Let's try and push her.
Speaker A
But even with the tires pumped up and extra hands pushing, it was no use. It is indeed in neutral. So now we have some locked [music] up wheels. Let me go get the truck and we're going to try and pull her forward.
Speaker A
At almost 19 feet long and nearly 5,000 pounds of pure American steel, pushing it was useless. We had to hook up the tow strap and let the truck do the heavy lifting.
Speaker A
All right, just look at how massive this is. You can even hear that locked wheel screeching as it drags. But wow, look at this thing in the sunlight. These fins are incredible. And I haven't seen the interior yet.
Speaker A
You weren't kidding. This thing really is luxury. Wow, look at that back seat. [music] It's like a couch. It's in perfect condition.
Speaker A
With the car finally out, it was time to get to work. Once we got it back to the shop, this build actually started off with a really good sign.
Speaker A
All right, we made it back to the shop with the Cadillac. And thankfully, when we were getting it out of the trailer, the wheels broke free.
Speaker A
So, this car now rolls, which is a relief because otherwise I would have had to take the wheels off and hit the drums with a hammer or pull it off with our 10-ton jaw puller. So, we kind of lucked out there.
Speaker A
But now we're going to detail the rear wheel.
Speaker A
But we have this fender skirt that covers half the tire as you can see. So there is this little pin that you twist and pull down and then it releases. Look how many rocks get caught up in there.
Speaker A
And then you just lift it up and out. And now you have full access to your wheel. Now moving on to the actual tire. We have this really weird browning and then this film on the inside of the tire and I'm really not sure what that's from.
Speaker A
But what I do know is how to clean it. And so we're going to be using our WD Osley tire cleaner, which is an alkaline cleaner that's going to help break down all that dirt, grime, and film.
Speaker A
And then we'll move on to the iron removing wheel cleaner that will help us clean up these hubcaps. And then the actual wheels underneath.
Speaker A
Behind the hubcap is this wheel that you're not going to actually see get cleaned up all that well, but the front wheel is painted white, which means that our Purple Rain wheel cleaner is going to make the wheel turn completely purple, and you'll see that chemical reaction.

So, we'll go ahead and clean this wheel and then we'll show you what our wheel cleaner does on that front wheel. These wheels are just the beginning, but Don already has big plans.

These kids were so involved in scouting and everything. They all went through all the scouting levels and we ran scouting.

That was really important to me, you know, that kind of stuff instead of this car. But it's really time-consuming.

But 10 years ago, I had to have a heart valve replaced. So, I got that all kind of fixed. And then, I thought, you know, this is the time I'm going to do it.

And lo and behold, I got a deadly virus in my heart and I had to go into a second heart operation, open heart surgery, and I spent 40 days in the Cleveland Clinic over there.

So, it really slowed me down here the last couple years.
Speaker A
What's the plan for it once it's all cleaned and looking good again? Take it back home and there's a better storage place by me for now. May put it in there till I get my garage built.
Speaker A
Do you plan on driving it? Oh, I'd love to take it for a ride, you know? I mean, it's nothing but luxury.
Speaker A
Hearing stories like that is exactly why we do what we do. We just want to make Don happy after all he's done for his kids and grandkids.

You can really tell how much this Cadillac means to him. He's literally building a brand new garage just so it has a proper home, even if he hasn't driven it in over 30 years.

But before it can go there, we tackled that locked up front wheel we were just talking about and hit it with some Purple Rain.
Speaker A
You can instantly see how crazy the results it gives are. And the Purple Rain is a direct chemical reaction breaking down 30 years of iron contamination. So, we can finally scrub it clean.

That's one of the craziest reactions I've ever seen. It's just pure satisfaction. After a quick scrub and rinse, you can finally see the real wheels hiding underneath.

But we were just getting started. Now, it's time to tackle the rest of this massive land yacht.

That's an insane before and after. All right, before we get into the actual wash of the car, we have Adam, our mechanic here, who's going to hopefully troubleshoot and diagnose this Cadillac and figure out what we're going to need to get it running again so that we can order in the parts and try and fix it later this week before we bring it back to the owner.

Let's dive right in. Man, it's a big motor. Yes, it is. And it is very clean in here. That's a really good sign. Let's take a look at the oil. We have fantastic looking oil and it's plenty full. That's a really good sign.

So, apparently this car only had a thousand miles driven on it under the new ownership, the owner that we picked it up from. So, we didn't drive it all that much.

Let's take a look under here and see what we got going on. Like the Office Max AC delete. [music] That's a cool panel cover.

Yes, it is full custom. So, in here, that's a really good sign. All the belts are on. All the plugs are in place. I don't see anything removed.

Doesn't look like any rodents have been in there either. No, the wiper motor.
Speaker A
Okay. Look at that. Turns over. Super easy. Next step, let's drain the fuel out of it. Let's get some fresh fuel in here. See if this thing's going to kick over and run.

All right. So, we're going to try and drain out the old fuel, but I can't seem to get into the the tank.

I'm not getting any resistance in this thing. Seems like there's like block age down here.
Speaker A
But sadly, no luck. Even with Adam giving it everything he had, reaching that fuel tank was just impossible. So, we were pretty unsuccessful at getting fuel out of this thing. Really couldn't get the hose down into the tank all that

well. And we tried sucking from up front. So, we're hoping this thing's dry. What we're going to do is we're going to fill the carb up and see if any fuel ends up pumping up into the fuel pump. So, go ahead and hit it.
Speaker A
Come on, baby. We got one little hit. H not much sense. Wa! What the heck was that? That flew out of there. Uh, let's take a look.
Speaker A
That's a gas. Looks like a piece of a belt. Oh, it started. Yeah, it sounds pretty cool, actually.

Yeah. Smells good, [music] too. I still don't see any fuel coming up to the end of the pump. And I'm out of fuel in my jug.

What do you say we just put 5 gallons in and take a rest? See what happens. Yeah.

Yeah. All right, let's do it. And with no other options, we decided to take a gamble. We went ahead and put 5 gallons in the tank. We're going to crank it over some. I just filled up the car. Let's see if we get fuel up here.

All right, let's do it. Here we go. Come on, baby. Whoa. Yeah. Look, it's filling up. This thing was empty ON GAS.

WOW. THAT'S A HEALTHY MOTOR. WELL, nicely done. Okay, so we know it will start and run, but now I want to see if it'll move under its own power, and then we can [music] figure out if it will

stop. So, let's go ahead and turn around. Oh, yeah. There we go. I'm going to go ahead and put her into neutral. You know what's weird about this car? It goes park, neutral, drive, reverse. Never seen that before.

Okay, so she'll move under her own power. Now, we need to make her stop.

And that means we have to check the brakes. And the brake pedal is stuck.

Stuck. Otherwise, meaning that if I kick it really hard, it's going to go straight to the floor.

So, we popped the cap off the master cylinder to see if there was any brake fluid left. And it turned out that Oh, we got gunk. Little schmutz. Well, that's not a good sign. Go ahead and see if you can get that brake pedal to move.

Well, I can try my best, but should I just donkey kick it? You can start, but maybe you need these bad rides to take a shot. Has anyone ever seen Adam's calves? Look at these things. Show me calves. Look at these [laughter]

stopping it is a whole different story. Especially when you look at the size of this thing. I mean, just look at it. It is an endless sea of heavy sheet metal.

To put that into perspective, this car is heavier and longer than most modern pickup trucks you see on the road today.

And back in 1960, they were stopping all that weight with standard drum brakes on all four corners. So, having those brake lines bled perfectly is absolutely crucial. We're going to let Adam do his thing and make sure the brakes are

researcher, who's done some research on this Cadillac. Mike, what have you found out? Well, this is a 1960 CL series 62.

This thing is actually really cool. They made these from 1940 up to 1964. So, this is actually the sixth generation of this car. I think it's the best looking generation of this car, personally, cuz it looks crazy. And then after this car,

they kind of got away from the big fins and the the interesting look of these cars and kind of made up, you know, the 70s big body when everything became square. That's what happened to this car. One interesting thing about this

car is it was featured in a movie called Pink Cadillac with Clint Eastwood in it.
Speaker A
And the main thing of the movie was a pink hat. It was a 59, not a 60, but looked pretty close to this car and had a lot of street presence, too. Another movie was Deer Hunter. That that movie

had this car as well. They'll probably be cut out cuz I never seen it either.

No. Pink Cadillac Eastwood. That's actually a really really big movie. I you know how I am with movies actually. Yeah. I don't even know why I question that for one thing.

I don't watch movies. [laughter] But like you were saying that is the end of the era of these fins. And the whole design feature of this car was to actually tone down the fins cuz they were much bigger on their earlier cars.

But I still think it's like the best of both worlds. They're a little bit subdued but they still look wild in today's date. Like it looks like nothing else. Crazy how big this car is yet how [music] sleek it is. Like it feels like

it's cutting through the air when it drives. 100%. For you guys that are at home, this thing is massive. Like absolutely huge. This car could be had in a four-door as well. Also a drop top, but one of the rare versions is this

coupe version. And obviously because it's a coupe and it's just so big. Two door, hard top or bus, baby.

I think it's the best version of this car. When when researching them, that's kind of what I came up with. What do you think this car cost when it was new?

In 1960, uh $6,800. About 5 grand. Top of the line was $5,500. Adjusted to today's money, that's about like $55,000.

Wow. But for what you're getting, like I think [music] today's Cadillac would be over 100 grand. So this was like a deal.

We grabbed the cannon and covered this entire 19 ft land yacht in a thick layer of bubblegum suds. There is just nothing more satisfying than watching this giant disappear under a blanket of white. Once the foam did its magic, it was time for

the contact wash. And let me tell you, washing a 19 ft long car is a literal workout. You need about three times the amount of soap and a lot of stamina because washing the hood alone feels like washing an entire normalsiz car.

But the best part of scrubbing this Giant has to be the chrome. These 60s Cadillacs have more chrome on one bumper than most modern cars have in total. And seeing that mirror finish slowly come back to life along with those iconic

rear fins, it just makes you realize why people love these cars so much. [music] Now it's time to move on to the engine bay detail. And we are going to cover the carburetor to make sure that no water gets inside because this motor

runs really strong and we don't want to cause any issues for when we try and start it later for the big reveal. But I am curious, Mike, what size is this engine? So this is a 390 cubic in 6.4 L

V8 made by Cadillac. It's quite special. So, these were known to be very, very robust, but also quite powerful. How much horsepower do you think this car has?

420. Okay, I shouldn't ask him that. That's unrealistic. This car from 1960. Sorry. All right. 1960.

Okay. I'm sorry. Uh, 225. It has 325. But back in 1960, like if you look up the highest horsepower American cars, top was like 400. That's top top. Like everything was 350 was like a really fast car. So, this thing was considered

to be extremely powerful [music] for back in the day. I mean, it needed to be because it you're pulling a yacht behind you. It was a really reliable, really robust motor, and it got terrible gas mileage. Absolutely awful.

Yeah. Don't say. I do say. Would you rather have a yacht or this? Well, do I have to maintain the yacht?
Speaker A
Yes. I I'll take the car. [laughter] All right, let's get into the engine. Hearing Mike drop those stats really makes you respect this Cadillac. 325 horsepower in 1960 was huge, but right now this V8 looks like it hasn't seen

soap in decades. We have to degrease this entire engine block without ruining the fact that it actually runs. We bagged the carburetor to keep the water out because hydrolocking this thing today is not on the agenda.

Now, we're moving on to the iron removing process and the clay bar process or in this case clay mitt process. What this product does is it chemically reacts with iron particulate in the paint. And that's why you see it

all turning purple right now because it's removing all of that iron, which allows me to make sure the paint's [music] fully clean before I go on to polish later. And then our claim will actually agitate this product as well as
Speaker A
remove any other contamination that might be in the clear coat. That way when I am polishing, I'm not picking up bits and pieces of [music] particulate and further scratching the paint during polishing. Moving on to the interior of

this Cadillac. It oozes class. The design is so classic [music] Americana, but you can really tell that they put some quality materials in here, and it's just a level above. It's just like Mercedes was in the '60s. They did such

good interiors, but also it had a lot of technology for back in the day. This is again from 1960. It had power windows.

It's got heater cooler. Like, it [music] sounds pedestrian now that a car should have this, but back then these were like big ticket options that you couldn't just get in every single car. Not just that, this thing is super comfortable.

Has a beautiful display on this instrument cluster. It kind of feels like a cockpit here with this clock on this side, keyhole. You have the lights here. And then this is just a Cadillac logo on this side, which it looks really

good. Something cool is that they kept their tassel from graduating high school. That's 1973 right there. And when I was in high school, once everybody got these, they all hung them up. So to actually keep it for that long

is actually pretty cool cuz I don't know where mine's at. Now I'm kind of questioning myself. You notice it is still pretty dirty in here, but that doesn't stop you from seeing how gorgeous the backseat of this car is.

It's just a couch back here. It's a couch with all of the astrays you would ever want to smoke as many cigarettes as you would want back here [music] because that's what they did in the '60s. With all that being said, we got to get this

big old heavy seat out of here and see what the condition of the carpet is and get that cleaned up.

we would use our drill brush to agitate our cleaning solution into the fabric. But in this case, I'm going to avoid using the drill brush and just use our extractor to suck the cleaner out. That way, we don't cause any more damage. cuz

I can't imagine that you can order these seats from the dealership anymore. But honestly, even with a few rips and tears, these seats are unbelievable.

Sitting in them doesn't even feel like being in a car. It literally feels like you're sinking into a massive plush living room sofa. They just do not make seats this comfortable anymore. Which actually makes me wonder, what is the

most comfortable car you have ever sat in? I really want to know if anything modern even comes close to this.

Cleaning up the steering wheel and instrument cluster gives you a great look at mid-century design. Look at this layout. Between the thin steering wheel, the round clock, and that massive horizontal speedometer, it's like sitting in a time capsule. Back in 1960,

they styled these things like aircraft cockpits. Wiping down all these textured plastics takes some patience, but knowing how long Don has waited to drive this thing again makes every minute of detail work totally [music] worth it.

After 30 years of sitting, these massive bumpers and trim pieces were completely oxidized. But with a little bit of polish, some elbow grease, and Joey back in action, we started bringing back that blinding mirror-l like finish. Seeing these giant pieces of chrome shine again

after all that time, man, it just ties this whole car together. All right. Now, peel the tape. Let's see how it looks.

recharged and hungry to work. With his help, we powered through the endless chrome, buffing out 30 years of oxidation until these bumpers looked like actual mirrors. Seeing that heavy metal shine again is unreal, but we can't celebrate just yet. With the

detailing finally behind us, we can now move on to the final stage of the build and get this legend back out on the road. Now, it's time for the final touches. Polishing, dressing the tires, and making sure every single inch of

this paint is completely glowing. We put hours of heavy work into this massive cruiser, but seeing it sit here fully restored in the shop is just unmatched.

And now, let's see the result of our hard work. All right. Now that the car is completely detailed, I want to drive this one time before we load it up in the trailer and take it [music] back to the owner.

Yeah, nice day to do it, you know, and everything, but [music] uh yeah, I've been kind of excited to see what's all, you know, done on it.

We're hoping that we did right by it, and we're really excited for you to see it. Let's go ahead and show you the car.

All right. All right. We told him the engine was still dead and wouldn't even turn over. Let's just say he was in for a serious surprise.

That's the way I remember it. There you go. Wow. Yeah. Nice. Wow. What do you think?

Fantastic. Yeah. Did you expect it to run and drive? No. No, I didn't. It was a great job.
