How to transcribe a YouTube video with the Chrome extension
In shortInstall the YouTube Transcript extension from the Chrome Web Store, open a video and click Transcribe & summarize: you get the text, a summary and chapters. No sign-in needed. It works only with videos that have subtitles.
How to transcribe a video
- Install "YouTube Transcript: Video to Text, AI Summary" from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open a video on youtube.com. A SozAI panel appears next to it.
- Click Transcribe & summarize. Or click the extension icon, then Transcribe this video.
- Switch between the Summary, Transcript and Chapters tabs.
- Save the result: Copy, TXT, SRT or MD (Markdown).
If the video has no subtitles
The extension reads YouTube's own subtitles, so with "This video has no subtitles" it cannot transcribe the video. Videos over three hours are not processed. You can transcribe the link in the SozAI app instead — that uses minutes (how).
Account and limit
You do not need to register: the browser gets an anonymous ID. The number of transcripts per month is limited — more about the limit.
