How it works
Fill in the Blank Generator in three steps
Paste a text
Or add a lesson as a source, or pick a deck.
Choose the blanks
Click words, pick key terms, or blank every nth word.
Print the exercise and the key
A word bank if you want one; the key on its own page.
What you get
A fill in the blank (cloze) exercise made from any text. Click the words to blank, ask for key terms, or blank every 5th, 7th or 10th word. Add a word bank, make all blanks the same length, print the exercise with name, date and class lines, and print the answer key as a separate page. You can also solve it on screen.

Word bank: Tennessee Valley Authority, Social Security Act, Keynesian.
Answer key. 1. Social Security Act 2. Tennessee Valley Authority 3. Keynesian
Who picks the words
There are three ways, and the page tells you which one was used. You click the words yourself. The AI picks them: from a source, the terms the study guide call returns are blanked in the text. Or a simple rule picks them: longer words that come back in the text, minus a short list of long function words. The rule is not AI and does not understand meaning, and it is weaker for Vietnamese, which writes one syllable per word. Always read the picks.
Limits, from the code
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Passage | Up to 2,500 characters; a longer text is cut at a sentence, and a long AI source uses the sentences that carry its key terms |
| Blank selection | Clicked words, or every 5th, 7th or 10th word |
| Scripts | Words are found with the browser's own word segmentation, so Japanese, Chinese and Thai work without spaces; Arabic and Hebrew print right to left |
| Source with AI | 200 to 60,000 characters, up to 24,000 read by the model; 10 uses per device per day |
| Paper | A4 or US Letter, black and white |
What is sent where
The deck, typed-list and text options run entirely in your browser; nothing is sent. The source option sends the text of your source (the PDF text, the transcript of the video, the words of the recording, or what you pasted) to an AI model service to write the sheet. We keep the finished result for up to 30 days under a hash of the source, so the same source is not written twice; we do not store the source text itself. Your decks and anything you save stay in this browser.
How teachers use it

- Press Pick key terms, then click words to add or remove blanks.
- Choose a word bank for a lighter exercise, none for a harder one.

Answers
Fill in the blank generator: frequently asked questions
How do I make a fill in the blank worksheet from a text?
Paste the text in the Type or paste tab, press the button, then click the words to blank. Print the exercise and, separately, the key.
Can I blank every nth word?
Yes: choose every 5th, 7th or 10th word. The first few words stay visible so the reader has some context.
Can it pick the words for me?
Yes. Pick key terms uses the AI terms when you started from a source, otherwise a simple rule that is not AI. Check the picks.
Does it work for Japanese, Chinese or Arabic?
Yes. Words are split with the browser's segmentation, which handles scripts without spaces, and right-to-left text prints right to left.
Does the answer key print with the exercise?
No. It has its own button and its own page.
Is it free?
Yes, without an account. Only the AI source option has a daily limit.
