his presence in this broken, dark, cruel, corrupt world full of evil, full of darkness. And yet somehow, somehow there is so much light and life and love and joy and peace and comfort when number one we don't deserve it, and

This is a note I wrote a long time ago, and it was something the Lord revealed to me out of these two verses. And I had never seen it that way before because really those two verses are kind

of intimidating. But fundamentally what he's saying is he's not looking for employees. He doesn't need us for anything. He's God. He wants us, but he doesn't need us.

Does he work through people? Yes, because he's love, but he doesn't need us for that, nor does it give us extra points with him. It doesn't save us. It doesn't secure our salvation. Because if our heart isn't right in those moments,

if we're not doing it from a place of love, if it's from a place of self-seeking, if we're chasing power, if we're trying to make a name for ourselves and the motive isn't right, it doesn't mean anything to him.

And it doesn't mean anything for you either or for me. It doesn't mean anything. First Corinthians 13 is a chapter that defines love.

And here's verse one. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not love, I am become as a sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries

and all knowledge, and though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be

burned, and have not charity, love, it profits me nothing. Without love, without being motivated by love, anything we do, anything we say, anything we give means nothing because it's self-righteousness.

credit for wisdom, for making good decisions. Or when we make a poor decision, we say, "Oh, I knew I should have done the other thing." No, you didn't. Or you would have done it. You're either following him or you're not following him. You're

It's a choice. And the reason I'm sharing this today is because I had a dream this morning. I was renting a house with three other people and I realized that there's stuff in the room. There's stuffed animals all

over the room. And I'm looking along the back wall and I'm trying to figure it out and I'm thinking to myself, someone's squatting here. And I look all the way back to the back corner and I see a futon. And I see these giant

stuffed animals among the others on the wall. And I look closer and one of them is alive. It's a dog. And he jumps down. He comes by me and then he runs out to the living room. And I go out to the living

room to follow him. And as I go out there, the people who are living in the house come back inside. Excuse me. Come back to the house. Knock on the door.

And I open the door and there's these three guys and a little boy. And I said, "Have you guys been living here?" And they point to the one guy with the kid.

And I'm like waiting for him to say there's been some kind of mixup or misunderstanding with the rental office, but he doesn't. And I I'm just looking at them. I'm hugging the little boy. I don't want him to feel

uncomfortable. And I look back at his dad and and we're talking and he starts telling me how he's done deliverance in that back bedroom and I'm thinking to myself, "Okay, you know the Lord. That's a start." And so we're sitting there

talking and I don't remember what I said, but I said something and he stops me and he goes, "Wait, you hear his voice?" And I thought to myself, how are you doing deliverance if you don't know his voice? And I'm

realizing I'm like, you don't know him at all. And I woke up and I sat with the Lord. I'm like, what does this mean?

What was this dream for? He said, stuffed animals, false sense of security. A false sense of of security in the Lord.

All of his employees. thinking they have job security because of their performances. And that's when he pointed me to Matthew 7:22 and 23. And he said, "The secret place, the secret place is where relationship is built.

That's where a desire to know me is birthed. That's where one tastes and see that the Lord is good and where a hunger and a thirst for him is developed.

And I'm just going to read to you the process of revelation the Lord took me through as I was reading this scripture years ago.

What is the will of the father? In Matthew 17:5, he says, "This is my beloved son. Hear him.

When he's saying hear him in that verse, he's saying consider, comprehend, understand. Take the time.

Take the time. Go looking. Ask, seek, knock wait ponder explore listen. What does that look like?

Speaker A

that's revealed in Luke 9:23. It says, "Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow me." Do you know that when you go, as much as you tell yourself, "I want to do the right thing.

I really should read my Bible." Do you know that you're probably not going to feel like it most of the time because the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak? Do you know that your flesh and your spirit actually oppose

one another? They're completely contradictory to one another. And that's why fasting is so important because it's how we put our flesh in check.

It's how we stop allowing our flesh to rule us and surrender to the Holy Spirit.

That's why it says deny yourself. Deny your own tendencies. Deny your urges. Deny your impure motives.

Surrender. Take up your cross. Be willing to endure a little bit suffer of suffering. Be willing to be a little bit uncomfortable. be willing to be inconvenienced to follow me because that's what it requires.

John 1:14 reveals that Jesus is the word. And if he is the word, then the word is how we hear him. It's how we know him.

It's how we see him. It's how we study him. It's how we'll hear from him.

The Bible tells us that faith comes by hearing. Therefore, if we haven't heard from God, we're not going to have faith.

And that verse continues and says, "And hearing comes by the word of God." You learn to hear through the word. You learn to recognize his voice. You learn to recognize his voice based on what he'll sound like, the types of things

that he'll be saying. And you'll also learn to recognize his voice through your encounters with him in those moments. When he speaks to you through the word, when he speaks to your heart, when he enlightens the word to you, when

he breathes life into it and he and he inserts it into your heart and you know that you know that you've heard from God, you start to recognize his voice so that even when he's not speaking to you

through the word or in your time of study, when you hear his voice, you'll begin to recognize it and you'll be able to discern it separate from the stranger's voice. The word says his sheep know his voice and the stranger's

voice they will not follow. But the enemy also disguises himself as an angel of light when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness. He was quoting scripture, but he was twisting scripture. And if you don't know the voice of your father,

and if you don't know scripture, you're going to be deceived. And it won't even be that hard to do it. John 6:63 says that the word is spirit and John 14:26 says that the spirit teaches us all things. Our relationship with God on the

read it. And don't read it to check it off the box. I used to do that. I I wanted to be in God's good graces, and I would pick it up and I'm like, I did the thing, now reward me. I had to grow out

of that. I've matured out of that, thank God. Now I now I literally do it to spend time with him and knowing that I need him, wanting to be filled by him.

Knowing I need to be fed because I'm hungry. Knowing that when I don't do it, my life looks a mess. I feel a mess. I have a terrible attitude. I'm impatient.

I'm unkind. I'm exhausted. And then I get a glimpse of him. And it's like I can see again. And I can hear again. And I can taste again. and I can my my life is brighter and my soul is at rest

because I've given place to his spirit. But it doesn't take long for me to come out of that place. This is daily bread.
