A Windows tweak guide covering 10 settings that supposedly hurt FPS and input latency, including audio enhancements, telemetry, Xbox Game Bar, HAGS, and mouse acceleration, with step-by-step fixes.
Key Takeaways
- Several default Windows audio and background services can add latency and consume resources that affect gaming performance.
- Enabling HAGS via the registry is presented as beneficial for frame time consistency, based on the presenter's own benchmarks.
- Disabling Xbox Game Bar and telemetry services is recommended to reduce background overhead.
- Mouse acceleration should be disabled for consistent, one-to-one aim.
What the video covers
- Disabling audio enhancements on output and microphone devices is presented as a way to reduce audio latency and processing delay.
- Adjusting audio formats to 24-bit, 48,000 Hz and disabling exclusive mode are recommended for headphones, speakers, and microphones.
- Setting communications activity to 'do nothing' prevents Windows from altering audio when calls occur.
- Disabling the Connected User Experiences and Telemetry service via services.msc is suggested to free resources and limit data collection.
- Xbox Game Bar and its background recording/capture features are said to consume resources and add input delay, so the presenter recommends turning them off.
- Game Mode is recommended to remain enabled on Windows 11.
- OBS Replay Buffer is suggested as a less resource-demanding alternative for clipping gameplay.
- Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (HAGS) is said to improve frame time consistency and reduce input delay; the presenter shows enabling it via the registry value HwSchMode set to 2.
- Windows mouse acceleration is criticized as causing inconsistent aim because cursor movement is not one-to-one with physical mouse movement.
- The video follows a numbered, step-by-step format with the presenter asking viewers to like, subscribe, and comment for future video ideas.

Windows automatically applies settings to your PC that are actively killing your FPS and adding a ton of input delay to everything you do.
Speaker A
Today, I'm going over 10 settings and showing you exactly how to fix them, all step by step.

Speaker A
Now, let's get into it.
Speaker A
Starting off with setting number one, audio enhancements.
Speaker A
Windows applies audio processing effects to your sounds, which add latency to everything you hear, as well as a delay because it takes much longer to process the audio.
Speaker A
So disabling these eliminates both of those factors.
Speaker A
To do this, open your Windows settings, system, sound, and then we're going to scroll down to more sound settings.
Speaker A
And right here, the first thing we're going to be doing, just to make this cleaner and easier to view, is right-clicking and unchecking "show disabled devices."
Speaker A
Now go in here to any device that you don't use the audio for. We're going to disable this.
Speaker A
And once you've done that for all of them, find your headphones and then double-click on them.
Speaker A
Press advanced and make sure both of these boxes are unchecked.
Speaker A
And this is set to 24-bit, 48,000 Hz, and press apply and okay.
Speaker A
And then any other output audio devices you use, like your speakers or your monitor, do the same exact thing.
Speaker A
You're going to check "disable all enhancements" right here.
Speaker A
And then uncheck these as well, and press apply and okay.
Speaker A
And then head over to recordings, and we're going to do the same exact thing but for your microphone.
Speaker A
So double-click, head over to levels, and you can adjust this here if you need to.
Speaker A
Head over to listen and make sure it's set to continue running when it's on battery power, and head over to advanced and do the same exact thing.
Speaker A
Uncheck both of these exclusive modes and set it to 24-bit, 48,000 Hz.
Speaker A
And finally, head over to communications and set it to do nothing.
Speaker A
Then we're good for here.
Speaker A
Number two, Windows telemetry.
Speaker A
Microsoft runs a data collection service 24/7 in the background, reporting what you're doing on your PC back to their servers.
Speaker A
So disabling this service frees up a bunch of resources and also stops Microsoft from collecting what you're doing on your computer.
Speaker A
Press your Windows key plus R, type services.msc, and then find "Connected User Experiences and Telemetry," right-click, properties, disabled, and press apply and okay.
Speaker A
Moving on to number three, Xbox Game Bar.
Speaker A
This feature runs in the background of every game you play, recording and monitoring everything, even if you don't even use Xbox Game Bar.
Speaker A
And just this setting here is a huge, huge setting that impacts both your gaming performance and FPS, as well as your latency to everything you do.
Speaker A
So, head back over to your Windows settings again.
Speaker A
Gaming, Game Bar, make sure both of these are unchecked.
Speaker A
Captures, everything here is unchecked, like this.
Speaker A
And then Game Mode, if you're on Windows 11, make sure this is checked.
Speaker A
And now, just a tip, because I know some of you guys are going to comment, "Well, what if I use Xbox Game Bar? What am I going to use to clip my games?"
Speaker A
I would highly recommend every single one of you switch over to OBS Replay Buffer, since it's less resource-demanding and just better to use overall.
Speaker A
Now, setting number four, hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling.
Speaker A
Despite what most people think about this setting, which is HAGS, disabling it will cause inconsistent frame times and add a bunch of input delay, because now your CPU is trying to process everything instead of offloading it onto your GPU.
Speaker A
Now, some of you guys have this setting inside your Windows, like this, but as you can see, for me, it's not here.
Speaker A
So, I'm going to be walking everyone through how to change the setting inside your Windows registry.
Speaker A
So, now open up the Registry Editor, and I'm going to have this path shown on the screen.
Speaker A
Now, just make sure to type it in, and then go here and find HwSchMode and set the value to 2 to enable the setting.
Speaker A
Or if you want to disable it, which I wouldn't recommend, set the value to 1.
Speaker A
But for the sake of this video and my benchmarks, enabling this setting is much better.
Speaker A
So, that's what I'll be doing.
Speaker A
Moving on to number five, mouse acceleration.
Speaker A
This setting is enabled by default, which adjusts your cursor speed based on how fast you're actually moving your mouse.
Speaker A
And this is probably one of the worst settings that Windows has, because it always results in inconsistent aim, since your mouse movements aren't one-to-one, and everything you do with your mouse is not going to be reputable or consistent.
Speaker A
Let's head back to our Windows settings, and at the very top, search "mouse settings," just like this.
