Speaker A
Ethan finally gave up. He figured he might as well let her lean on him. The two of them slept against each other the whole ride. When the subway arrived, the girl hurried to get up. Her shoulder bag accidentally hit Ethan in the face. They
Speaker A
also got off at the same station. Ethan thought this might finally give them a chance to meet, but the girl suddenly tripped and fell. Ethan quickly helped her up. He noticed that one of her heels had broken, so he immediately broke the
Speaker A
other one, too. Emma looked at the serious guy explaining himself. A smile appeared on her face. Later, on the campus shuttle, Emma purposely chose a two-seat row, but Ethan only cared about reading his comic book. Sometimes people
Speaker A
simply miss their chance with someone. As Ethan got off the bus, Emma kept watching him, but when Ethan turned around, she shyly put it away. Ethan was a doctoral student in mechanical engineering. He was also a 10-year survivor of bone cancer after losing a leg. He put all his energy into
Speaker A
research. His only goal was to develop a disability assistance robot named Danny. His classmates told him that besides building robots, he should also make a bucket list for his life. He should think about what else he wanted
Speaker A
to do besides research. Ethan did not take it seriously at the time, but when he was alone that night, he still wrote down six wishes. They ranged from eating fried chicken to traveling around the world. His last wish was to have a real
Speaker A
relationship. He already had someone in mind. It was the girl he had liked for a long time. Ethan asked Haley out to dinner. He planned to confess his feelings in person. The next
Speaker A
day, he dressed up especially carefully. He also walked into a flower shop for the first time. He picked out a bouquet of roses. On his way out, he happened to pass Emma. By the time Emma realized what happened and ran after him, Ethan was already gone. That night, Ethan
Speaker A
arrived at the restaurant early, but Haley was not alone. A male coworker was sitting beside her. Ethan had no choice but to pretend it was a reunion with an old classmate. When the coworker went to pay the bill, Haley told Ethan that
Speaker A
the man was someone she was seeing. She even asked Ethan for dating advice. Ethan had officially just been rejected. In a private room at the same restaurant, the fashion department was holding a graduation dinner for their professor.
