What if I told you that Amazon allows Kindle ebooks as short as a single page long, and people are actually buying them? Crazy, right? Most people think that publishing on Amazon means writing a 300-page epic novel or an enormous nonfiction book, but that's simply not true. Amazon actually has an entire Kindle short read section dedicated to ebooks that people can finish in a single sitting. Today, I'm going to show you what Kindle short reads are, why readers love them, and, more importantly, how you can create short ebooks that people will actually want to buy. Now, when I first learned about Kindle short reads a couple of years ago, I'll admit it, I was skeptical. I remember thinking, "Who would actually pay money for a really short book?" But then I started digging into Amazon, and that's when I realized something that completely changed how I looked at publishing books. Readers don't buy page counts; they buy experiences. And once I understood that, then Kindle short reads suddenly made a lot more sense. So, what are Kindle short reads? Well, they're exactly what they sound like. They're ebooks designed to be read in a relatively short amount of time. They're perfect for someone on a lunch break, sitting in an airport, relaxing before bed, or anyone who wants to finish something today and not three weeks from now. But now, here's something that you need to remember. Short doesn't mean rushed, it doesn't mean incomplete, and it definitely doesn't mean low quality. It simply means delivering exactly what you promised without wasting the reader's time. Think about the last time you watched a movie. When it was over, did you judge it based on how many minutes it was or whether it was worth your time? Books work exactly the same way. Again, readers aren't buying pages; they're buying entertainment, education, inspiration, escape, or a solution to a problem. Okay, so here we are on Amazon. I'm going to show you the Kindle short read section, okay? So, people go into Amazon, they can go to Books, and then they go to Categories, and right here is Shorts and Short Reads. And the Kindle short read section is broken down based on estimated reading time. So, the shorter books, which can be as little as one page, will be in 15 minutes, and then 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour, 90 minutes, and 2 hours. So, I'm going to go into one of these categories. Let's just say 15 minutes. So, you can see these are all the subcategories. I'm just going to scroll through here. I mean, cookbooks, um, I mean, just a wide array. I mean, there's everything from romance and thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, nonfiction, poetry, you name it, and it's in here. Young adult novels, all of it. And these categories exist for each of the different reading time groups. I mean, almost every genre imaginable is here in Kindle Short Reads. And that's because Kindle Short Reads isn't a genre. It's a format. So, how do you make a Kindle Short Read? See, here's where many new publishers make their first mistake. They think that short reads means easier, and it doesn't necessarily. A great short read still has to accomplish something, whether it's explaining for nonfiction, solving a problem, making a transformation, or for fiction, keeping that promise. You know, having one complete story, one satisfying ending, one memorable experience, not 10 different ideas all crammed into 40 pages. If you remember nothing else from today's video, remember this. The length of the book should be determined by the promise you make to your reader, not some arbitrary page count. If you can completely deliver that promise in 20 pages, well, then fantastic. If it takes 60, well, then that's okay, too. Don't add fluff just because you think readers expect a longer book. Readers would much rather finish a fantastic 40-page book than struggle through 200 pages of filler. Now, let me save you from making a few mistakes. Things like trying to cover too much, writing without a specific audience in mind, having weak covers, having a generic title, adding filler to increase your page count, and publishing one book and then stopping. Because here's something I tell my students all the time. Don't think in terms of writing a book. Think in terms of building a catalog. One successful short read is exciting. Five related short reads become a product line. Ten, well, that becomes a brand. Twenty begins creating momentum where every new book helps sell the others. And that's when publishing starts feeling less like chasing one bestseller after the other and more like building a real business. Now, to be clear, I'm not against creating long books. I mean, I've got young adult novels that I've written that are over 74,000 words. But don't underestimate the power of good Kindle short reads. And one thing you should know about short reads is that you cannot request to be in a Kindle short read category. That is something that Amazon and KDP have to do for you based on your page count and where they think your book belongs. It also should be noted that children's picture books, by definition, are short. So, there is no children's picture book section within Kindle short reads. See, Kindle short reads aren't successful because they're short. They're successful because they respect the reader's time. They deliver exactly what they promise without any unnecessary filler. And if you can consistently do that, you'll already be ahead of most new publishers in the format. Now, if today's video opened your eyes to what's possible with Kindle short reads, then you're really just scratching the surface. I have an entire course called Short Read Domination where I walk you through my complete process from finding profitable ideas and planning your books to publishing them on Amazon and building a catalog that works together. Now, if that sounds like something you'd like to learn more about, I've included a link down in the description as well as in the first pinned comment. If you found this video helpful, it means the world to me if you hit that like button. It lets YouTube know to share this video with others.
