Speaker A
Hey guys, it's Wizard.
00:01
Speaker A
It's been almost a year since my last YouTube video.
00:05
Speaker A
For pretty much all of 2025, I've been buried finishing a book about one big question.
00:10
Speaker A
How do you actually get better at ANY video game?
00:14
Speaker A
The book is actually coming out soon, but before I publish it,
00:17
Speaker A
I had one nagging thought: Okay, I know these ideas work for my students, but do they still work on me?
00:23
Speaker A
A washed coach who barely plays anymore.
00:26
Speaker A
I've seen these concepts work for a lot of players already, just this year alone, my students went from Silver to Grandmaster and Masters to Champion.
00:34
Speaker A
So, I decided to turn it into a simple experiment.
00:37
Speaker A
Boot up Overwatch again after a long break, queue Tank, and play while only focusing on one concept, the Chill Pill.
00:44
Speaker A
And here's the result.
00:46
Speaker A
I got placed in Diamond and went from Diamond to Grandmaster in just eight days.
00:51
Speaker A
So in this video, I'm going to break down what Chill Pill actually is and how you can use it to climb.
00:56
Speaker A
But first, let me be really honest here.
00:59
Speaker A
When I first started playing again, I was in full blame mode.
01:03
Speaker A
I was in Diamond lobbies watching my teammates play super passive even when we have advantage.
01:10
Speaker A
Waste ultimate for no reason when we're already up three.
01:14
Speaker A
And I was getting really tilted.
01:16
Speaker A
In my head, it sounded like, why are they so scared?
01:20
Speaker A
And passive, why are they wasting ults here?
01:23
Speaker A
If my team played just properly, these games will be so free.
01:27
Speaker A
And most importantly, how the fuck am I the same rank as these guys?
01:34
Speaker A
Because in my head, I was the guy who was top 500 multiple seasons.
01:40
Speaker A
And even peaked around top 30 back in the day.
01:44
Speaker A
I was sitting in that familiar swamp of blaming my team.
01:48
Speaker A
Looking back, obviously a big part of it was just my ego.
01:52
Speaker A
Maybe I didn't want to admit to myself that I've gotten this bad.
01:56
Speaker A
So, in frustration, I called some pro players I know and asked them to watch me live.
02:02
Speaker A
And all three of them said the same thing.
02:05
Speaker A
Whiz, your resource management is awful.
02:10
Speaker A
Your HP, your cooldown, your distancing, your cover, you're just dumping everything for no reason.
02:15
Speaker A
And the funny part is, these are the exact basics I've been teaching my students for years.
02:20
Speaker A
And yet, when I looked at my own gameplay, I realized I wasn't doing any of it.
02:24
Speaker A
So from that moment on, I made a decision: Okay, for this experiment, I'm going to only focus on one concept only.
02:30
Speaker A
Managing and stacking resources before the fight so I can finally use it when the opportunity arrives.
02:36
Speaker A
Uh, the one idea I call taking the Chill Pill.
02:39
Speaker A
So what exactly is Chill Pill?
02:41
Speaker A
Look at this clip from two weeks ago before I took the Chill Pill.
02:45
Speaker A
As you can see, as soon as the game starts, I'm using my bubble, using all my resources.
02:53
Speaker A
And yet, I'm not keeping more distance, I'm not getting into the safety.
02:59
Speaker A
And I use another bubble on the Soldier who actually didn't even need the bubble.
03:04
Speaker A
And I take the one-v-one against the Baptiste, and Baptiste had a better resources with the Immortality Field.
03:10
Speaker A
So I was absolutely bankrupt on my resources and I lose the fight.
03:14
Speaker A
I had this ego in my head thinking, I used to be top 50, I can beam them down with high energy.
03:19
Speaker A
And I can just carry them.
03:21
Speaker A
But the reality, I was just feeding.
03:24
Speaker A
And I was just donating my resources.
03:27
Speaker A
I essentially became an ELO Philanthropist.
03:30
Speaker A
So basically, most gamers are busy shooting themselves in the foot, just like myself in this footage.
03:35
Speaker A
It's not the enemy, it's not your teammate, it's us.
03:39
Speaker A
And here are three major problems if you keep playing like this.
03:43
Speaker A
Problem number one, you die because you are bankrupt on resources.
03:47
Speaker A
It's obvious, if you play like this, you die.
03:50
Speaker A
I'm wasting my resources when I just need to chill out.
03:53
Speaker A
If you are the guy who's just always dying first or always getting cut out.
03:58
Speaker A
You aren't getting outplayed by the opponent, you are probably just sabotaging yourself.
04:02
Speaker A
You need the Chill Pill to just survive and start actually playing the game.
04:06
Speaker A
Problem number two, you can't afford the kill.
04:08
Speaker A
Remember, every kill carries a price tag.
04:11
Speaker A
If that Baptiste didn't have Immortality Field or if he was maybe lower than 50 HP, he wouldn't have been able to kill me there.
04:19
Speaker A
Because he wouldn't have enough resources to kill me.
04:21
Speaker A
So if you save enough money, in this case, your resources, you can use it to buy kills.
04:27
Speaker A
Or you can use it to help the mid-fight, which I call the spike.
04:30
Speaker A
So if you actually want to kill someone, you need to have enough resources to punish them.
04:34
Speaker A
The thing is, enemy team is making so many mistakes.
04:37
Speaker A
In my experience playing in Diamond to Grandmaster, everyone is making so many mistakes.
04:42
Speaker A
I was missing out so many free kills that was literally handed to me.
04:46
Speaker A
The kills were literally delivered straight to my door wrapped in like the gift packs.
04:51
Speaker A
So, even if you play safe and don't die, you still have a problem.
04:56
Speaker A
If you waste your cooldown early, for example, if you're playing Ana versus Roadhog, and finally when the Roadhog makes a mistake.
05:05
Speaker A
If you don't have your Nade or Sleep Darts ready, he might just get away with it.
05:10
Speaker A
Problem number three, mental capacity.
05:13
Speaker A
This is the essence of this concept.
05:16
Speaker A
When you are spamming buttons, your brain is at 100% usage at all time.
05:22
Speaker A
Just trying to aim and just trying to play the game.
05:25
Speaker A
But when you take the Chill Pill, you get more mental capacity.
05:29
Speaker A
Kind of like having a more brain bandwidth.
05:32
Speaker A
You stop taking random fights, shooting quivers in front of you.
05:36
Speaker A
And suddenly, you can see the game.
05:39
Speaker A
Oh, my Ana is very far back.
05:41
Speaker A
Actually, this fight, we have a severe ultimate disadvantage.
05:44
Speaker A
Well, I don't have any bubble.
05:46
Speaker A
I should probably back away.
05:47
Speaker A
Chill Pill isn't just about saving skills.
05:50
Speaker A
It is buying yourself the time to gather information and process the information.
05:55
Speaker A
So you can make the right decision.
05:58
Speaker A
Instead of just making a random play again and again.
06:00
Speaker A
So, the downtime, or the chill time, is not necessarily a bad thing.
06:04
Speaker A
In fact, it's a crucial part of playing the game.
06:08
Speaker A
Some of my newer students who come to me say they heard from other coaches that uptime is important.
06:14
Speaker A
They tell you to always do damage, always be shooting, always be active.
06:18
Speaker A
So you go into your rank game and try to force those high uptime plays.
06:21
Speaker A
And that's exactly what I was doing here.
06:24
Speaker A
I felt like I had to do something.
06:28
Speaker A
I had to be the guy pumping out big damage and carrying my entire team.
06:33
Speaker A
So I traded my precious cooldown for trash damage and stood in horrible positions just to feel active.
06:39
Speaker A
But the truth is, real high uptime is one of the last puzzle pieces.
06:43
Speaker A
Not the first one.
06:44
Speaker A
When you first learn martial arts, you don't start with 560 spin kicks.
06:49
Speaker A
You start with boring and mundane stuff, stands, foot, like wax on, wax off basics.
06:54
Speaker A
Uptime exists on top of high-level fundamentals.
06:58
Speaker A
You need to be able to stay active without feeding.
07:02
Speaker A
Exactly knowing where the enemy team is and what cooldowns they have and knowing where supports are, managing your distance, using cover, spam angles and dodging mechanics.
07:11
Speaker A
Timing your trade precisely using the tank's aggro, and yes, even tracking ultimates.
07:16
Speaker A
Without these, uptime is just a fancy word for dying faster.
07:19
Speaker A
Let me give you a real story about this.
07:21
Speaker A
I had a Tracer student who was hard stuck in GM5 for years.
07:26
Speaker A
He also thought he needed to fix his uptime when he was bleeding his resources every fight trying to be active.
07:32
Speaker A
But once we fixed this issue with the Chill Pill concept, teaching him how to stack his resources, respecting the distance more and actually start gathering information.
07:40
Speaker A
He went all the way to rank 10, top 10 on NA server as DPS.
07:44
Speaker A
And he told me later, I realized uptime isn't the starting point.
07:49
Speaker A
Uptime is the reward for good basics.
07:52
Speaker A
It's the last card you play, not the first one.
07:55
Speaker A
So this is a common uptime myth that my students have.
07:59
Speaker A
Don't get me wrong, uptime is really important.
08:02
Speaker A
Especially in the pro level.
08:04
Speaker A
But uptime and pushing your limits are concepts that I teach to students around Grandmaster and above.
08:12
Speaker A
But if you're below that level and you try to force the plays with bad awareness and your shaky mechanic, it's a recipe for disaster.
08:19
Speaker A
So, unless you're pro level or around Champion tier, I would highly advise you to just gather more information.
08:25
Speaker A
And make the right decision rather than seeing no information and making random decisions.
08:30
Speaker A
Now, let's take a look at how pro players are using Chill Pill.
08:33
Speaker A
This is Proper's Tracer.
08:35
Speaker A
And as you can see, going into the fight, he almost always has three blinks and recall available.
08:40
Speaker A
He's stacking resources before the fight.
08:42
Speaker A
And look at this moment against Ramattra.
08:45
Speaker A
On average, Masters or even most Grandmasters players would blink immediately to the cover.
08:50
Speaker A
But Proper just goes back to the cover, knowing he has a Lucio heal behind him.
08:56
Speaker A
He uses natural cover and stacks his blinks.
08:58
Speaker A
And now, as soon as he sees the tiny moment that Ramattra is not looking at him, he just walks to the next cover.
09:05
Speaker A
When again, most GM players would just use their blink to just get there.
09:09
Speaker A
Now, he took the space and he's already in a perfect position.
09:12
Speaker A
And he has three blinks stacked up.
09:15
Speaker A
This man is a con artist.
09:16
Speaker A
Here, instead of going all the way into Kiriko, he just goes for a quick jab.
09:21
Speaker A
Then he waits for the perfect moment, gathering information, waiting for his team to actually walk in.
09:29
Speaker A
And finally, when his tank is engaging towards the point, he sees that enemy Lucio's movement is very predictable in the Ramattra tornado.
09:36
Speaker A
So he goes for a disgusting clean kill.
09:39
Speaker A
It's crazy how he's maintaining almost full resources, three blinks and full HP and a recall in the middle of the fight.
09:45
Speaker A
I guarantee most GM players would just go all in on Kiriko much earlier, blowing all their resources.
09:53
Speaker A
Quickly getting cleared out while doing two-v-one against Lucio Kiriko.
09:56
Speaker A
Okay, back to my example.
09:58
Speaker A
The reform Wizard Hyeong.
10:00
Speaker A
As you can see, I'm maintaining high HP and generally above 60% of Matrix.
10:04
Speaker A
And I'm also looking back at my team to update the information.
10:07
Speaker A
I'm not literally AFK doing nothing.
10:10
Speaker A
I'm constantly making few enemies look at me using Matrix and cover.
10:14
Speaker A
Even when I engage, I don't go all the way in.
10:18
Speaker A
Because I don't see a big green light yet.
10:21
Speaker A
Going in and out very quick.
10:22
Speaker A
And as you can see, the enemy Juno is critical.
10:26
Speaker A
And I finally have my resources to punish her.
10:29
Speaker A
And of course, I was still making tons of mistakes because I'm still going through the gaming rehab phase.
10:34
Speaker A
But I was able to capitalize much more on the enemy mistakes.
10:40
Speaker A
And more importantly, I had more clarity on why I'm going in or why I'm taking the fight.
10:45
Speaker A
Instead of just auto-piloting.
10:47
Speaker A
So in summary, manage and stack your resources.
10:50
Speaker A
Wait for your opportunity.
10:52
Speaker A
There's many resource donators in rank game.
10:56
Speaker A
Just like myself two weeks ago.
10:58
Speaker A
And finally, use the downtime to think and gather information.
11:02
Speaker A
If you thought, wow, Wizard Hyeong looks really bad in these clips.
11:06
Speaker A
Well, yes, that is very true.
11:09
Speaker A
So, you can probably do it.
11:10
Speaker A
Thank you, and see you next time.
