Speaker A
I've got to move out of my workshop, and today we need to find a new one. This is really, really nice.
Speaker A
But not only that, we need to build whatever we find into my dream car workshop. However, before we do any of that, let me explain how we got here in the first place.
Speaker A
The Toyota GR Yaris. All right. How does VTEC work? This is me almost six years ago now. I had just been sent home from my second year at university thanks to a pesky little virus, and I had nothing to
Speaker A
do. So, I started making videos in my bedroom on the topic of cars, something I had always been passionate about. What is the best car for a 17-year-old who has just passed his test? At this point, I didn't have a YouTube channel. All of
Speaker A
these videos were being posted to a brand new app called TikTok, and I actually managed to build a nice little following. How do cars spit flames?
Speaker A
Right, let's get into it. Time passed, and I was taking this TikTok thing more and more seriously. And that's when I decided to do something which genuinely changed my life. I bought a cheap and cheerful Nissan Micra. And most
Speaker A
importantly, I had an idea to do a video series with it. With this car, you are going to be deciding what mods I do to it. All right. Top comment of every video gets to decide what I do. I
Speaker A
decided I would give full control to my audience and let them choose each modification we do to this car. Whether it was pink wheels, a side exit exhaust, a huge spoiler, or a pink and black decal, I followed through and actually
Speaker A
did the suggestion that each top comment on each video said, and this simple concept went absolutely viral.
Speaker A
From this to this in literally less than a day, 200,000 followers. 300, 400. Thank you lot so much. The 20 videos I posted on this car gained a cumulative 48 million views.
Speaker A
And my account went from 80,000 followers to over 1 million in just over a month.
Speaker A
Thank you so much for 1 million. Overnight, I was catapulted from this small creator to something that was a completely different level. And everybody knew my Nissan Micra as Boris.
Speaker A
To be called Boris. Boris the Micra. Boris the Micra. Why Boris? I mean, this car is pretty much TikTok famous.
Speaker A
And this explosive growth opened so many doors for me. I was invited on a shoot with Car Throttle with a load of amazing people who you'll probably recognize.
Speaker A
Oh, I love it. What a car. I did collaborations. What car would probably break down first? But 9.46.
Speaker A
And not to mention the sponsorships, but luckily eBay's here to help. Download the G map app. This Valvetronic Designs.
Speaker A
Also, I got a little merch business up and running. Now, these are the designs that you have to pick from. And to my surprise, people were actually buying it.
Speaker A
Hoodies are going ham. The hoodies are what everyone's buying. However, whilst I was absolutely loving the feeling of growth on TikTok, it just wasn't my final goal. I wanted to be a YouTuber. The thought of creating videos I could truly be proud of all
Speaker A
whilst building cool cars was something 10-year-old me could have only dreamt of. So, I started a YouTube channel.
Speaker A
Now, initially, I found YouTube growth a lot harder than TikTok. Even getting just 10,000 views was extremely difficult, but I was loving it. Making these long-form videos was so much more fulfilling for me. And I knew that if I
Speaker A
could make it work, I could actually do this as a job. So, to help make this dream a reality, I also took the leap of moving into my first unit. So, this is the unit we've just moved in. And it
Speaker A
took me a while to learn how to actually make a good video, but eventually I found my feet on the platform. I had the idea to make content on building the performance versions of cars that never had one. And that all started with
Speaker A
turning a Honda Jazz into a Honda Jazz Type R. I absolutely loved this concept.
Speaker A
And on top of that, the videos were starting to do well. So, I kept at it all whilst throwing myself into the deep end, replacing engines and doing all sorts of mechanical work with absolutely zero experience or training. Over my
Speaker A
time on YouTube, we've built some truly unique projects. We've expanded the team, and pretty much everything has happened in this unit.
Speaker A
And that brings us to today. It is currently Thursday, the 9th of July, and our lease in this place ends on the 31st. Now, technically, we could renew our lease and stay here, but there is a big problem, and that's rising rent
Speaker A
prices. The guys that used to be in our neighboring unit had to leave because their rent was almost tripled. And if that was to happen to us, this unit would just become unfeasible. But there are other reasons that we want to move.
Speaker A
Firstly, it is the inside space. Now, this place is beyond what my wildest dreams were when we moved in, but now the projects have got bigger and more ambitious. It does feel very cramped in here, and I do think we need a bit more
Speaker A
inside space. And secondly, it's the outside space. Now, we absolutely love our neighbors. They are all amazing people, but there's a business there, a business over there, a business over there, and a business over there. And YouTube really works better when you're
Speaker A
sort of on your own on top of a mountain with absolute silence because we're filming videos. So the less noise and busyness, the better. And this business park does get quite busy, especially during the weekdays. So to summarize, we
Speaker A
want to find a place that's similar in price to our current unit that has a bit of an upgrade on the indoor space as well as more outdoor space. We want it to be quieter as well. And the location
Speaker A
is also really important. Right, so we are officially on a unit hunt. We need to try and find the next home for the channel, and it is a notoriously difficult job to find a unit, especially in the south. So that
Speaker A
is our task today. And we have booked in three different unit viewings to go and have a look at to see if we can find our perfect new home. And we are actually on the way now to the first unit. So let's
Speaker A
go and see it and see if it's any good. Here we are at the first unit. Take it all in. What do you think? What do you think?
Speaker A
Yeah, it's a nice color. The building's a nice color. What? Green. It's like a British racing green, isn't it?
Speaker A
Exactly. Yeah. One thing I do like about this unit, just from the outside, how it has two shutters.
Speaker A
Yeah. So, on the inside, we're going to have ramp ramp. That's really easy to get cars in and out. I do like that. Now, something to say about this unit is someone is already in here. Well, they're about to—they're about to end
Speaker A
their tenancy, so they haven't moved out yet. There's a lot of stuff in this unit. You're just going to have to use your imagination and see past it. So, here is the first unit. A double-shuttered warehouse-style building. Now,
Speaker A
I can already tell you that the price on this unit is good. It's around the same as what we pay for the current unit.
Speaker A
Now, on first impressions, the outside space feels a lot quieter and less busy than our old place, but there isn't that much of it. However, it's only a 20-minute drive from where I live, so it's a really good location.
Speaker A
Here we go. So, yes, it is currently full of stuff. Look at that. What do you reckon in terms of size? You reckon it's bigger or smaller than our current space?
Speaker A
Uh, I actually can't. What's the square foot on this? Do you know? I have to double check it.
Speaker A
Double check. But it just on initial, like, thoughts, it looks, feels longer but thinner.
Speaker A
Yeah, it does feel thinner. I actually think it might be smaller though. I think it is slightly smaller.
Speaker A
I think this might be like 1 and a half thousand ft. We'll put on the screen now the actual size of this unit so you can compare it to our current unit. But yeah, I don't know. The inside space
Speaker A
isn't as much of an upgrade as I was hoping to, honest. It looked bigger in the pictures. Yeah, there's also not a lot in terms of amenities. That's the, uh, the catchphrase of the day.
Speaker A
Basically, amenities are like your kitchens, your toilets. I don't know anyt
Speaker A
Toilets outside. Yeah, the outside space is really nice and I like the two shutters.
Speaker A
I like the location as well. The location's really good, but I'm not sure about the that inside space.
Speaker A
There's not a lot in there. But if we wanted to go to the toilet, this is what we'd have to do in this unit.
Speaker A
Um, which one is the toilet? Is it this one or this one? I'm not sure. No, it's that one.
Speaker A
So, with this unit, I wasn't a huge fan of the indoor space. It just didn't really seem like much of an upgrade. And on top of that, the lack of a small kitchenet and an outdoor toilet that we
Speaker A
couldn't find makes me think this isn't really the place for us. But let's put it in the maybe pile and go to our next unit.
Speaker A
We have arrived here at the second unit. Now, I didn't know this, but this unit actually has two in one. So, if we wanted to take one here, there's actually two to choose from, not just one unit. Now, straight off the bat, I
Speaker A
can confirm that these units are really well priced and they're actually considerably cheaper than what we pay at the current unit. But let's have a look around and see what they're like. Look at how beautiful it is here. It is
Speaker A
gorgeous. We got all the trees. It is so quiet. Look at this out outside space.
Speaker A
This is the sort of stuff that like we really need because we can film intros out here if we were to take it. We could get the cars out here. I'm sure we could park the cars out here. This is really I
Speaker A
really like this so far. I really like this. So, let's have a look at unit number one.
Speaker A
In off initial impressions, it looks pretty much the same size, if not a little bit smaller than our current unit. But I think the big thing about this place, you got a huge mezzanine. And technically, this unit is
Speaker A
2,100 ft². So, it's it's technically a lot bigger than our current place at 1,600, but I think it it's because it counts the mezzanine up there. Probably the building itself is probably the same sort of floor square footage.
Speaker A
So, this is an office. This has this gives us a lot of options for storage.
Speaker A
Like, look at this. This is great. The only thing that that I'm sort of not 100% on is is how much floor space there is. Realistically, this is not it's not like a massive upgrade at all.
Speaker A
Really, the indoor space I would say is probably down a downgrade on total floor space.
Speaker A
Yeah. So, whilst this unit technically has 2,100 ft of space, that's divided up between a huge mezzanine offices, a kitchen, a store cupboard, a toilet, and the floor space. So, where we would actually be doing the work on the cars
Speaker A
is probably a bit of a downgrade. But, let's go and have a look at the other unit. I do know I just love I love this outside space, man. Honestly, I really like it.
Speaker A
And also something else which really annoyed me about the the old unit, right, is that the sun would beam into the to the this is a really niche point, but like in in the morning the sun would like beam into the the main shutter
Speaker A
door. This one is facing away from the sun, which is great. Instantly more space on the ground floor, isn't there?
Speaker A
Yeah. So immediately, even though this space is technically smaller at 1,700 ft², it does actually feel bigger. So this one is 1,00 So the previous unit was 2,100 ft because it included that mezzanine. This one is 1,700 ft, but it
Speaker A
feels bigger. Yeah, it does. Like this feels way bigger. So our current unit, again to remind everyone, 1,600. This is 1,700. So, it is a tiny upgrade on floor space, but our current unit doesn't have this. Oh, mate. Imagine that,
Speaker A
bro. We could make an edit. We could make like a a full-on editing suite.
Speaker A
Oh, mate. And you could look out over the cars. Yeah. Yeah, mate. I see. I think this one's better.
Speaker A
The only thing actually I'm worried about in this place, but this is for both units, ceiling height.
Speaker A
Yeah. Can we I think we we could get away with a ramp in it.
Speaker A
Yeah. And location. So, whilst this unit genuinely seems way more promising, this whole site is quite a far drive from where both Toby and I live. So, it doesn't quite tick the location box. But this unit we've just
Speaker A
seen is a definite contender. And remember, if you are enjoying this video and you're looking forward to see what unit we end up in, make sure to subscribe. My analytics have told me that most of you watching this video
Speaker A
right now are currently not subscribed to the channel. So, if you haven't got round to it yet, make sure to do so because it's completely free and you can always change your mind later on. Right, we have one more unit to go and look at.
Speaker A
So, let's get on the road and go and have a look at it. And it is a bit bigger.
Speaker A
So, here is the third and final unit. And straight off the rip, it's quite clearly a huge upgrade on indoor space.
Speaker A
This thing is just under 4,000 square ft. And on top of that, it's really close to where I live. So, it has a great location. This is massive.
Speaker A
This This is This is absolutely huge. Ceilings are really high in this as well, aren't they?
Speaker A
You could stack like 10 cars up in this unit. But it is m like it is massive cuz it's so such high ceilings. You could definitely like build a mezzanine here, couldn't you?
Speaker A
Yeah. Like you could build like that's the thing with this because you haven't just got ground space. You've got upward space as well. So you could literally build like a double-decker mezzanine part storage if you really wanted to. I
Speaker A
wonder how how many steps is it? So this place is giant. And I'm starting to think at this point, is this too big?
Speaker A
22 big steps. Do you be long if you left best tool in the world over there?
Speaker A
I know. over here. I think this is a bit too big. Yeah. Wait. Do you think Do you think bigger is always better though?
Speaker A
No. I think it's a perfect size. We don't want it, you know, this is like like Goldilocks where porridge. We don't want it too cold, not too hot. We want it just right.
Speaker A
Now, this unit is fantastic. It is amazing. But it has a couple of problems. Firstly, take a look at all of the surrounding businesses. This is why I wanted to come and see this place in person because there is a lot of noise,
Speaker A
a lot of business going on here, which isn't good for us as YouTubers, as I've mentioned. And after confirming with the agent the business rates and the service charge and all those sorts of expenses, this place is probably out of our
Speaker A
budget. And we really do have to think about these monthly expenses because we want to put as much money as possible into the builds. Now, many of you might have monthly expenses on your house or your car, but did you know that if you
Speaker A
took car finance out in this time period, you could be owed compensation? The FCA confirmed that 14 million people were missold car finance and 8.2 billion pounds is owed to members of the British public. And as a result of this, you
Speaker A
could be owed thousands. And that's where the sponsor of today's video, Refund Club, can really help. Now, I haven't taken out Car Finance in this time range, but my dad actually has. So, using Refund Club's 60-cond check, all I
Speaker A
had to do was insert my dad's basic details into the checker, and a few seconds later, I found that he was owed over £4,000. Now, you can go through and do this process yourself. You can check over your agreements, contact the
Speaker A
lenders, and manage that ongoing communication. But if you've lost your paperwork or you've moved house or you don't know who your lender was, this can be a very timeconsuming and difficult process. And remember, this check is completely free to do with the link in
Speaker A
the description or the QR code on the screen right now. And it only takes 60 seconds to do this check. So why not do it? You could be owed thousands. So thank you to Refund Club for sponsoring this video. So what do we do? We've seen
Speaker A
three promising units throughout this video, all with different pros and cons. Now, I was really leaning towards the second unit we saw at the second unit.
Speaker A
That really doesn't make sense, but you know what I mean. And we were going to go for that one until we got a phone call from an agent who had this other unit that I'd saw online that looked
Speaker A
absolutely perfect. So, Toby and I went to have a look around it, and it was even better than it looked in the pictures. Every single one of our criteria boxes was ticked, and it really felt like the place we wanted to move
Speaker A
into. So, I'm glad to say we took the plunge and signed all the paperwork, did all the boring stuff, and we now have a new home for the channel.
Speaker A
So, here we are. This is the new unit. Now, we've been to a few places in this in this video, and this one is by far the best unit we've seen. And we've actually already done the paperwork on
Speaker A
this unit, and it is officially our new unit. So, I think we should go inside and have a look around. First thing to say, look at our shutter. It is a wham shutter. It's a lot bigger than our
Speaker A
previous one. And we have a a door. This is it, ladies and gentlemen. It's very echoey in here right now. But this is the new space.
Speaker A
This is where all of the future builds are going to be happening. I am so excited. Now, we should say that the price on this unit is really, really good. Like, we got it a tiny bit more expensive than our old unit and it has
Speaker A
way more space. On the listing, it says it's 2,800 ft. So, basically, it's almost double the size. As you can see, it's not quite as polished or as like clean as our old unit. It's a bit of a
Speaker A
fixer uper. We've got to do a lot of work in here to make it the place I want to build the best projects in the world, but it is really cool. I absolutely love this space. It is just the perfect the
Speaker A
perfect unit. So, let's have a look around. I mean, there's not really much to say about this unit except for the fact it has more space. I mean, that is the main thing. We have a little office in here. We can do lots of this. It is
Speaker A
The audio in here is terrible. It's very echoing, but we I don't know. I was thinking possibly like a little desk in here. Um, some soundproofing definitely and like some nice ambient lighting. I don't know what we're going to do. We've
Speaker A
also got We'll go up there in a sec. Toilets. Where are the lights, Toby?
Speaker A
Just there. Ah, look at that. We have a little sink. We could put a microwave in there. We could put a fridge in there. We have a male toilet. I mean this is I mean this is very fancy and a female toilet. I
Speaker A
mean I think that is wishful thinking. And in here we have is there lights in it? Oh there is storage compartment.
Speaker A
I have no idea what we are putting in here. This could be I don't know torture chamber or something. That's wicked though. Look at Oh man. This is so cool.
Speaker A
Stairs. Yeah it's it's very dusty up here is all I'll say. But look up here is a mezzanine.
Speaker A
mezzanine. I am thinking I don't know whether to put the desk cuz we could have a desk up here overlooking the minions the workshop and well the we don't have any minions.
Speaker A
It's just you and me. I don't know desk or is this car part storage? I don't know. Something a lot of you guys might something a lot of you might notice is there is sort of this section. Now we technically aren't
Speaker A
allowed to use that section. So the odd bumper might find its way up there but we we don't want to get you know like the landlord said we're not allowed to do that.
Speaker A
So what I'm saying before we No idea I don't know what I'm saying. Now there is something to say about this roof. It's it's not very insulating. So we are going to be addressing that. We are going to be doing a whole build on
Speaker A
this place. I think we should show everyone the outside space because that was a massive selling point on this unit was just how much outdoor space we have.
Speaker A
You can see look at how much just space there is everywhere. There's just so much so much space. I mean, look, even even like down here, like I'm sure if we wanted to store a couple projects down there, if we could ask the landlord
Speaker A
nicely and he wouldn't mind. And the good thing about this place as well is that the landlord is not a big corporation. The landlord is just a really nice guy and we can talk to him rather than going through a million
Speaker A
different emails to talk to a big corporation. So, we've got a lot more outdoor space. We've got a really nice landlord. We've got a really good price per square foot. We've got a massive unit in there with all the amenities. I
Speaker A
think that's called amenities, isn't it? And yeah, we are ready to start fixing this unit up. It's a little bit rough around the edges, but we are ready to start fixing it up. So, that is the new unit and we now have a lot of work to
Speaker A
get on with to get it up to scratch. We want this unit looking absolutely mint.
Speaker A
So, let's get started. So, where do you even start on a project this big? And what is our end goal for this unit? Well, we want to redo the floor, the lighting. We want to paint the walls alongside a whole host of
Speaker A
other things to try and make this space look as clean and as professional as possible. And the first thing to get on with to achieve this is to get all of our wires for our lighting ran from the
Speaker A
mains to wherever we want the lighting to go. And the guys from Inphase Electrical are giving us a hand.
Speaker A
Okay, so that is step one sort of complete. Now, these are our wires for our lights. And we're going to have some lights over here on on sort of this section. And then we've also got some wires higher up in the ceiling for the
Speaker A
main lights over the ramps and things. We're planning for the ramps to be down here in the middle. The next job is the insulation. So all of this roof that you see needs to be insulated because we don't want to be freezing in the winter.
Speaker A
So we're going to get that insulation sorted now. And that's quite a big job.
Speaker A
It's not a 5minute job. It might take a week or two. So that's exactly what the guys from PJs Limited came down to do next. Now the landlord didn't want us drilling into the roof. So these guys came up with a really clever solution
Speaker A
using these lightweight metal beams and industrial spec cable ties to secure the insulation to the roof.
Speaker A
And they were here for a week or two doing this job because it was a mammoth task.
Speaker A
But after days and days of grueling work, they eventually got all of the insulation up. But they weren't done there because they also had the job of erecting a new wall on the right hand side of the unit. And this, I think, is
Speaker A
going to make the whole space look a lot cleaner. And that is the insulation and our new wall done. Look at how well that has been installed. I am so pleased with it.
Speaker A
And that wall looks absolutely epic. I wasn't originally planning to put that wall in there, but I think it's really cool. It's going to allow us to put some banners up. It's going to it's like a good sort of place to put our tool
Speaker A
chests up against when we get those in. So that was the logic behind the wall.
Speaker A
But on to the next thing. So we need to install some ramps. And that is the next thing we need to focus on because it needs to be done really before we do the flooring. So to get a ramp installed,
Speaker A
it's not as simple as just bringing in the ramp and bolting it down. We actually need to dig a big hole here and then fill it with 4,000 PSI concrete because the ramp needs like strong concrete to be mounted into so it
Speaker A
doesn't fall over basically cuz obviously big heavy cars are going up on it. So that's what we got to do now.
Speaker A
We've got to dig holes, pour concrete in said holes, right? So to dig these holes, Brad has come down to give us a hand. You might have seen Brad's channel. You've done a high booster swapped Peugeot and a SA swapped MR2. He also does car
Speaker A
builds on YouTube. And you've done this before. I have done this before. Yeah. So, what the plan is is we're going to do two 1 m squared holes 2T deep over there somewhere. We've still got to mark it
Speaker A
out yet. And then Yeah. Just dig. Get digging. Just get digging. Let's go. Now, Brad has done this once before, and I've done it zero times before, but neither of us are professionals. We're just giving it a go because I don't
Speaker A
really want to pay someone to do this. How hard can it be? So, after we've marked out where we want to dig the holes, the first step is to cut out the outline of the holes with a concrete
Speaker A
saw. And as you can see, this is the messiest job in the world. There is so much dust that gets kicked up from the concrete saw.
Speaker A
And once that was done, the next step was to go at this concrete with a concrete breaker or any other power tool we could get our hands on. And this was genuinely the most backbreaking work I have ever done. This concrete was
Speaker A
extremely stubborn and it literally took us hours to get what looked like a tiny bit of progress.
Speaker A
But it was at this point that my landlord Rich came to the rescue because he had a load of heavy machinery that he could use to help us dig these holes so much easier. He started with this massive concrete breaker attachment on
Speaker A
the end of his digger which got rid of the top layer of concrete in literally minutes. And then he could take the shovel attachment on the digger to dig the holes down to 2 feet deep, which is exactly what we needed.
Speaker A
And because he made such light work of doing that, I could get back out the concrete saw and cut out the outline for two more holes, which would allow us in the future to install another ramp in this unit if we need to.
Speaker A
And then again, Rich could use his heavy machinery to dig these holes out in no time.
Speaker A
Right. So, our hole digging has now been completed. We have hole number one. Again, these are about 2T deep. Hole number two, hole number three, and hole number four. Honestly, we would have been absolutely buggered if uh Richard, our landlord,
Speaker A
hadn't come and helped us out there. It took us about it generally took to get 20% of the way done with that one. Took us all morning.
Speaker A
Yeah, literally. So, now the holes have been dug, Brad and I could take a bit of time to clean them up manually with the shovels. And then we could line the bottom with plastic sheeting and put in some random
Speaker A
pieces of rebar. The plastic is just to help reduce the moisture ingress and the rebar is for strength. Once that was done, a concrete lorry then turned up and could start pouring some really strong C40 concrete into our holes.
Speaker A
It was extremely satisfying to see all of this come together. And of course, we had to do this for all four holes.
Speaker A
And after grafting for two solid days, that was our concrete foundations now finished. Also, it goes without saying, but a huge thank you goes to Brad for helping me out with this. If you haven't seen his YouTube channel already, go and
Speaker A
check it out. Okay, it's been a few days and the concrete has dried. Wow, doesn't that look good? It's turned to this lovely light gray color. Jack's left me in the unit with a bunch of paint stuff, painting equipment, and a large pink
Speaker A
wall to paint. So, thanks for that, Jack. I'm going to get on with it. So, as Toby said, I gave him a bit of a job of getting some of the wall painting done. So, the main thing to tackle is
Speaker A
our large pink wall on the right hand side. And all Toby's doing here is using a roller and some white paint. And this is a very satisfying job.
Speaker A
And he also got on with painting the walls up on the mezzanine. But just as Toby was getting this section of painting done, something very exciting arrived.
Speaker A
In these boxes are hex lights from Garage Style. I'm sure many of you have heard of Garage Style and I've seen these lights before because a load of other YouTubers have used them and I am jumping on the bandwagon because I think
Speaker A
they're going to be the best lighting solution for our unit. Now, to get these installed, the guys from Inphase Electrical have come back to help us out with this. And installing these lights is not a small task. hanging and fixing
Speaker A
them into place is going to be an absolute mission. But before we start installing them, we firstly got to start building the lights up on the floor.
Speaker A
And all whilst this is being done, Toby can continue painting the walls. Good boy.
Speaker A
Once the hex lights were built up, we could start installing the first set of them on the left side of the roof.
Speaker A
And as you can see, this hex lighting looks absolutely phenomenal. I'm so glad we went for this, but we have got a long way to go so we could continue smashing out getting all of this installed.
Speaker A
The next one just going to do me worse. So if they all no good, I'll just be back with you.
Speaker A
So with the left bank of hex lights now fully installed, another little job I needed to crack on with was to just finish off the painting on the main pink wall because there was a bit at the top
Speaker A
that Toby couldn't get to originally so I could quickly finish this off and get it painted in white. This is hard for me to learn. Like good boys don't play with bad girls.
Speaker A
Good boys. And once that was done, it was then time to get our main lights hung from the roof.
Speaker A
And whilst the lads were getting on with this, there were still some other walls that needed to be painted.
Speaker A
And getting all of this installed was days of work because the lads had to make sure they were wired up correctly.
Speaker A
They had to make sure the lights were evenly spaced out. They had to make sure they were all level. There was just so much to do to make these lights perfect.
Speaker A
But they smashed it out of the park. So after an absolute massive graft from all of the lads, the lights are now completely finished. And here is what it looks like when all the lights are on.
Speaker A
That is just absolutely crazy. I mean, just look at the light. It's so even. There's barely any shadows.
Speaker A
This is what the videos are going to look like in the future. It just it has such a great vibe. These hex lights have such an amazing vibe. So, that is a job well done. But next, there is a bit of a
Speaker A
bit of a gaping sort of issue with this unit still, and that is of course the flooring. So, that is what we're going to crack on with next. Now, there are lots of different ways you can address flooring in a workshop like this, but
Speaker A
the way we're going to address it is probably a method that you have seen before, and it is these sort of black puzzle pieces. And they are supplied by none other than garage style. And the guys are going to install it today. How
Speaker A
exactly do these pieces install? You just sort of hit them down. So, they're solid PVC tiles and we're going to lay them. Um, they're all interlocking.
Speaker A
Yeah. And then we leave an expansion gap around the edge cut to size and everything, but they're fully 7 mil thick. Uh, chemical resistant and everything.
Speaker A
So, oil will be fine on it. Oil, chemicals, anything you can jack up on them, car ramps, all that sort of stuff. It's all good.
Speaker A
Wicked. Well, I can't wait to get down. And this is going to be an awesome visual transformation. So, let's get started. So, this old concrete flooring is about to go through a crazy transformation thanks to this flooring solution from Garage Style. So, the guys
Speaker A
could go ahead and get started with getting all of these tiles installed to the floor. And whilst it is a pretty simple process, it would take hours and hours if you're trying to do this by yourself. So, Garage Style brought a
Speaker A
whole team in to come and get this done as fast as possible. Now, the most timeconuming part of doing this was actually cutting the tiles around to perfectly fit the edges. But on top of the main floor space, the guys
Speaker A
also tiled inside the kitchenet and the toilets. And once they were done, the unit was just looking unbelievable. The combination of this flooring with the hex lighting was such a good decision, and I couldn't be happier with how this
Speaker A
turned out. Well, the floor has completely transformed this place. It looks so good. I am over the moon with it. It is quite dirty right now because we have some more stuff going on, which I'll explain. Um, but if any of you guys want
Speaker A
to check out Garage Style, I will leave all of their information in the description of this video. They are absolute legends. But for now, what are we doing today? Well, in the back of this van, you can see we have some
Speaker A
carpet tiles. And you might have noticed when we were doing the garage style flooring, we left out the office and the mezzanine at the top. And that is because those two areas are going to be carpeted. So, we want both the office
Speaker A
and the mezzanine floor to get these carpet tiles fitted. And all Warren has to do to get this done is to firstly apply a layer of tacky glue to the floor and then place the carpet tiles down.
Speaker A
And he can also cut them to size if he needs to. Something else that was really small that was bugging me were these lights in the office. They just didn't look very nice in my opinion. So, we upgraded them
Speaker A
to these lights which look a lot more modern and just fit the bill a bit nicer. I think the flooring in the office has been put down. That lovely carpet. And we now have these fresh new lights which look so much better than
Speaker A
the old ones. Up here on the mezzanine, the carpet is now done as well. It looks so good. And I'll I'm sort of going to keep it as a surprise as to what we've got planned up here. You'll see as we
Speaker A
put the furniture up. It's going to be very nice. But the next thing I want to do is this pipe. If you have a look at this pipe and these wires, it just looks really ugly having this up here. So,
Speaker A
what I want to do is get some plywood, which we've already bought, and we're going to like box this off and paint it paint the wood white so it matches in with the wall. And I think that is going
Speaker A
to really make this look a lot nicer. And also, there's like this horrible sort of I don't know, dusty just we're going to do we're going to put wood on top of that as well. It doesn't look great.
Speaker A
Oh, that's that's terribly wrong. Wa. So, to build the box over the pipe and to get this woodwork done, we could take the plywood upstairs and make some measurements, let's say. Yeah, just like 23 cm. 23 cm.
Speaker A
Okay. Then we could take the wood back down and make the cuts into it that we needed to. Now, whilst we were in this initial planning stage, I had a bit of a brain wave. Why don't we turn this wooden box
Speaker A
into a sort of standing table where you can put drinks and those sorts of things on it? So, to make this happen, we decided to make this wooden box go up a lot higher on the wall than we initially
Speaker A
thought. Now, whilst I was getting on with making my wooden box, we also decided that we wanted the office to be painted in black to give it a really nice vibe for editing. And we also wanted to completely remove the current
Speaker A
window for reasons that you'll see later. So, this was Toby's attempt at removing said window.
Speaker A
No such thing as unfixable. Meanwhile, all I had to do was make a few more cuts to complete this section of the wooden box. And then I could get these pieces of wood painted.
Speaker A
And as you can see, I actually changed my mind on painting them white and I went for black instead.
Speaker A
And whilst I was doing this, Toby was cracking on with painting the office. Once he was done with that, Toby could come up to the mezzanine and give me a hand with putting together my new box that I'd made, which I was very proud
Speaker A
of. Yeah, perfect. But just as we were making really good progress, something else really exciting turned up.
Speaker A
The eagle-eyed ones among you may have noticed that this is our ramp. We have partnered up with Twin Bush for this video to get one of their top-of-the-line ramps installed. And the guys down at Eric Ramps have come to fit
Speaker A
this for us so I could show them exactly where we've done the concrete foundations. And with that, they could then start to get the ramp installed.
Speaker A
Now, this is the part where they have to drill into the floor. And of course, with our concrete being super strong, it's going to hold the ramp in place. No problems whatsoever.
Speaker A
The next thing they need to do is apply this chemical anchor resin into the holes. And basically, this is going to bond the studs that are going in next to our super strong concrete.
Speaker A
Now, one of the cool things about this ramp is that it actually connects the two posts at the top. And this means there's no need for a speed bump on the floor. If you remember in the old unit,
Speaker A
our old ramp had a speed bump in the middle, which isn't good for low cars, and it's generally just pretty annoying.
Speaker A
But this ramp does away with that entirely. So, it's a really good upgrade. There were some final steps for these guys to get on with, one of which was getting the ramp arms on.
Speaker A
And it wasn't long before our brand new ramp was fitted. Okay. Well, that is probably the coolest thing we're going to get in this unit.
Speaker A
That is epic. I mean, what an upgrade from our ramp that's in the previous unit. It looks so good in here with like that dark gray. It's just so sick. We're going to spend so many hours under this
Speaker A
ramp. And the best thing about it is, well, one of the best things about it, we have lights on the side. And not only do we have white light, we have red, green, blue. We can change the lights to
Speaker A
whatever we want. Although, it's definitely just going to stay on white. But that was that's really going to help us with the filming, you know, so you guys can see what's under the car that's on the ramp. But more than that, it's a
Speaker A
3.6 ton ramp. It has all the bells and whistles. This is a proper piece of kit.
Speaker A
So, a massive thank you goes to Eric Ramps for installing it for us. and also for Twin Bush for supplying us with this awesome ramp.
Speaker A
This ramp really is awesome and it's just getting me so excited for the future. There's going to be so many projects that we're going to work on on this ramp and as we're getting all the work done in this unit, I just can't
Speaker A
believe my eyes with how well it's turning out. It really is turning into my dream workshop. But we still have a lot of work to crack on with. So, let's continue with making my wooden box on the mezzanine.
Speaker A
So, the next pieces of wood I needed to cut out needed a lot more measuring to get it right. So, I could firstly get that measuring done and then I needed to get all the cutting done.
Speaker A
Now, a lot of this process was just getting the wood roughly in the right shape and then mocking it up to see if it fits and then going back to adjust it again with the cutting disc.
Speaker A
And after a lot of trial and error, I got all of the wood finished. Oh, when that's all painted, it's going to look bad boy.
Speaker A
Yes. So, getting all the wood painted was the next job, which was a pretty easy one.
Speaker A
And then all that was left to do was to get the pieces of wood fitted into place and screwed down.
Speaker A
And after quickly painting all of the metal brackets to hide them, that was the wooden box finally complete.
Speaker A
That is all of our woodwork up here on the mezzanine now done. This is like a perfect sort of shelf. We can put your drinks on there if you got a drink or whatever. It's absolutely solid. like that could take my body weight. The uh
Speaker A
the little brackets have been color matched so you can't really see them. I think it looks good. And I am particularly proud with this bit around here because getting it past all the bars and there's a lot of measuring
Speaker A
needed to get this right. And we've also covered up sort of all the dusty stuff that was there with some white panels.
Speaker A
Again, carpenters could have done a far better job than me, but I think that looks way better than it did, which is all that matters. Also, Toby has completed the painting in the office. It looks great in here. Now, obviously,
Speaker A
there are some brush strokes on the wall, but you're going to see why in a second, why that doesn't matter. We just wanted to get that base black down to give this from sort of a dark vibe, but
Speaker A
we're going to This is going to be like an editing study, we think. Um, so the next things to do are all over here. So, we have these special things. Now, if you ever if you've ever been to B and Q,
Speaker A
you will know what these are. These are basically acoustic panels and they're going to go on the wall and they basically cancel out all the echo and the reverb in a room. So, it's really good for our editing, for our
Speaker A
voiceovers. Also, we have a big pane of glass. This glass has been custom sort of made for our space here. So, we can get that in that hole, which I think will look way better than the old windows. It will look really clean and
Speaker A
we'll be able to see out way better into the workshop. So, there's a lot we've got to do. We've got to cut out sort of a frame with these pieces of wood that we've got. There's a lot to do. We've
Speaker A
also got some furniture that's slightly later. There's lots going on. We still have loads to do. So, let's keep cracking on. So, to start off with, we want to build one big glass pane window in this hole in the wall. Now, I've
Speaker A
never built a window in my life, but again, how hard could it be? So to do this, the first step was to measure out the exact dimensions of our window frame. And then we can cut these white beams to those dimensions.
Speaker A
And once that's done, the next step is to use this special tool and this saw to cut a 45° angle into the beams.
Speaker A
Nobody going to know me. Once all of the 45° cuts had been made into the beams, I could then start to build up the window frame.
Speaker A
Oh my lord, look at that. Are we carpenters or what? Look at that window frame.
Speaker A
Next, we could screw the window frame into place. All right. Okay, we've got all of them to do now. Time lapse.
Speaker A
After getting all the screws in, we then had to apply this special window sealer to the inside of the window frame.
Speaker A
Then it was just a case of lifting our big pane of glass into place.
Speaker A
And then to finish off the window, we had to get some more sealant on. And we could also get the inside frame fitted.
Speaker A
And that is our window fully fitted. And I have to say, I don't think it looks too bad for a first ever window. But something else I wanted to do to this window was to actually tint the outside
Speaker A
with a one-way film. What this is going to do is it will create like a mirror effect from the outside as well as making it look a bit darker on the inside.
Speaker A
So, the next thing to crack on with is to install our acoustic panels into the office. What's the strap for this thing?
Speaker A
You reckon Big Wiggles? Yeah, Big Wiggles. So, to get these panels on, all we're going to do is apply some adhesive to the back of them.
Speaker A
Then, we can get them up onto the wall. And then to finish off, we can screw in each of the corners.
Speaker A
And then we just have to copy and paste that exact technique a few more times.
Speaker A
Once all the panels were fitted, I was really happy with how this turned out.
Speaker A
We are most of the way through the acoustic panels. have this wall completely done, the back wall completely done, and we have this wall started. Now, we need three more. 1 2 three to complete that wall. But we've
Speaker A
run out, so we're going to have to go to BNQ tomorrow and get some more. Um, but we now need to furnish this room. So, I'm talking about desks, chairs, cabinets, that sort of thing. And it is all over here. So, we have a cabinet, a
Speaker A
fridge. That's not for the office, obviously. That's for the kitchen. We're just going to get it all out of the boxes and start building it up. So, that is exactly what Toby and I started doing. We could put together all of the
Speaker A
desks, the chairs, the cabinets, and all of the furniture that I'd bought for the office.
Speaker A
So, I'd bought chairs, a desk, lamps, a big bench, and a few other bits to decorate this office to make it feel like the place I want to edit videos.
Speaker A
And once it was all built up, Toby and I could get it in the office.
Speaker A
That's good. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Is it? Yeah. Bro. Yeah. This is hard.
Speaker A
This is sick, mate. This is This is the coolest thing ever. And the acoustics have improved so much as well.
Speaker A
We need to shut. We just need to get that acoustic the acoustic panel finished on that side.
Speaker A
Yeah. The world's coolest office. This is actually bad boy. I genuinely feel like a bit of a a bit of a builder.
Speaker A
Yeah. name. Okay, so now the office downstairs is done and looking unreal. I want to sort out this space up here on the mezzanine and I've been racking my brain as to what to do with this. And I am thinking
Speaker A
we turn this into the ultimate chill out zone. I'm thinking sofas, coffee table, couple other things which going to make it cool up here. And we've actually already bought all the furniture. So we're going to bring everything up and
Speaker A
show you what we've got. Me to you. Made to you. Me too. So the first things that Toby and I can bring up to our mezzanine chill out zone is the armchair and the sofa.
Speaker A
And then next we could bring up a really cool engine coffee table. And if any of you in the comments can guess what car this engine's come out of, I'll like your comment. And then next to come up
Speaker A
was a whole pool table. I have always wanted one of these in my unit, and the fact we actually have the space for this blows my mind. So, after doing a few adjustments to make sure the table was
Speaker A
sat flat, Toby and I could test it out. Oh, that is well done. Well done.
Speaker A
The last thing to add up in this chill out zone was this lamp and this cool artwork of Boris.
Speaker A
And that is our chill out zone mostly finished. We do have some finishing touches coming later, but generally this is what it's going to look like.
Speaker A
We are getting so close now to finishing all the work I want to do in this workshop. But we still have a few jobs left. Something small I want to do is to paint the doors.
Speaker A
Oh yeah, by the way, next thing we want to do is remove the door so that we can paint it black. So to do this properly, we have to remove them.
Speaker A
Whoa. Door. Mr. Door is off. And it's not just the office door. It's also the door that goes into the kitchenet and the toilets as well. Also, the stairs that lead up to the mezzanine are not in great condition. So, we can go ahead and
Speaker A
remove these as well because we are also going to get these painted. Now, as for the doors, these were pretty easy to paint. We just used the exact same technique that we've been using throughout this video with the brushes.
Speaker A
And once that was done, we could get the doors refitted. And without a doubt, this is a big improvement.
Speaker A
Now, as for painting the stairs, I took them to 360 Alloys and Body Shop. Now, these guys are my go-to for anything wheel refurb or body shop related, but they were a bit surprised when I bought them a set of stairs. But either way,
Speaker A
Mike from 360 absolutely smashed out painting these stairs, and they look so much better after this refresh. Is this not the shiniest, most beautifully finished set of stairs you've ever seen in your life? A big shout out again as
Speaker A
always to 360 Alloys for smashing this out of the park for us and particularly to Mike for just getting such a cool finish on these stairs. They look so good and it is going to make a massive difference. It is these little details
Speaker A
that just make the whole space look better. So, let's get them on. And it wasn't just the stairs we could refit. We could also get the banister rails on as well.
Speaker A
So, something else I thought would be quite a nice finishing touch is to put all of these pictures of basically a lot of cars I've had in the past, all of the builds on the channel, just some good
Speaker A
memories, people I've met, blah blah blah, all that sort of stuff. We've even got the YouTube plaque that's been framed and the channel banner. Um, so yeah, all of this stuff is going to we're going to sort of fit it up on the
Speaker A
mezzanine at the top and also some of it's going to go in the office. So, let's do it. Now, I take a load of pride in all the builds we've done in the past. So, even if I don't have some of
Speaker A
these cars anymore, I thought it was a really nice touch to get these pictures of them up on the wall.
Speaker A
Finishing touch. Oh, yeah. It's just the little things. And on top of that, so many amazing people have helped me out on this incredible journey we've been on, and I've had some great memories. So, it's good to get all of these pictures of the
Speaker A
best bits up on display. But I'll keep you close and tell you all my secrets that only you will ever know.
Speaker A
Oh, so ride with me cuz Oh, I love the open road and see you in the cross.
Speaker A
Right, so the next thing we want to address is this concrete ramp. Now, basically, we need to dig this up and redo a ramp because our floor here sits about 15 cm higher than the floor here.
Speaker A
And that ramp is very steep. Here's a video of me trying to get in with a Sarah. It does just about get in, but it is very close. And if we have any cars that are lower than that, they're going
Speaker A
to scrape on this. So, we need a solution. And the guys down at Danmach have come down to put some tarmac on the ground to make a nice ramp. So the first thing they have to do is remove our old
Speaker A
ramp. So we want to build a nice shallow ramp for cars to get into the unit because going forward we'll definitely have some really low cars that will need to get in. So as I said, the first job
Speaker A
is to dig up the old ramp. And once that's done, the lads from Danmach can go ahead and get all of the tarmac laid down. And this new ramp is going to come out by around 2 m. And
Speaker A
this means it's going to have a really nice steady incline. Well, that is our tarmac ramp finished.
Speaker A
Looks amazing. I mean, that is a huge upgrade. We're now going to be able to get all of our low cars in the unit, which is a really big win. But now we can move on to one of the final jobs.
Speaker A
Not the final job, one of the final jobs, which is sorting out our tools.
Speaker A
And I have a lot of stuff to show you. Right. So, these are all of the tools from the old unit. We've just sort of dumped them in. And we've already moved out of the old unit now. It is empty.
Speaker A
This is what it looked like when we gave it back to the landlord. Completely clean. Did the floors and everything.
Speaker A
So, it is now gone by unit. Um, we now have the exciting job of organizing all of these tools. But we don't just have our old tools. We have teamed up with Machine to basically kit out this whole
Speaker A
workshop. And as you can see behind me, we have some very big pallets of cool stuff. Now, these are modular toolboxes.
Speaker A
These tool boxes where you sort of put them together and they make like one massive workbench. These are really cool. They're the Clark brand from Machine and they have supplied us with all this stuff which is really cool. And
Speaker A
Machine is a genuinely great website. It's why we partnered with them. They have so much variety. If you need any mechanical tool that you need for a car, they will have it. They have so much stuff on their website from compressors
Speaker A
to these modular tool boxes to hand tools to power tools, literally everything. So, make sure to go and check them out with the link in the description of this video. Now, not only do we have these awesome modular tool
Speaker A
boxes to build up thanks to Machine, but we also have a bit of work to do on this back wall. As you can see, the wall itself is in pretty bad condition. So, we organized for some amazing plasterers
Speaker A
to come and completely replaster this wall for us. And whilst they're doing that, Toby and I can build up these toolboxes.
Speaker A
Now, because these are so big and because we have two of them, it did take a while to build them up, but I just think these things look so damn cool and it's going to make a huge difference
Speaker A
because we're going to be able to store every single one of our tools inside a cabinet or a drawer, which we definitely couldn't do in the previous unit.
Speaker A
And here is what it looked like when they were both built up. If this isn't the dream setup, I don't know what is.
Speaker A
These modular toolboxes are genuinely a game changer for how we're going to work in this unit. And it really is a major step in the right direction. Well, that is our modular toolboxes now fully built up and in their places. I am so excited.
Speaker A
Look how good this looks. Now, one of the benefits about these modular storage units, whatever you want to call them, is that you can sort of mix and match them. So, on this one, we decided to go on the double doors for each on each
Speaker A
side, but on this one, we decided to go with single doors on each side because there's a little bit less space on this side. And I think it fits in so well.
Speaker A
And we did actually measure all of this out before doing the concrete foundations for the ramp. So, that's how long we've been thinking about getting these in here. And it looks amazing. So over the next couple days, we repainted
Speaker A
the back wall. We made the plugs in the office black. We also finished off the acoustic paneling. And we had our big haul of tools from Machine arrive. Well, it feels like Christmas. And that's because all of our tools from Machine
Speaker A
Mart have arrived, which is very exciting. Look at all the stuff we've got down here. We've got ratchets, mallets, copper or copper hammers, I think, bolts, screwdrivers, jump packs, we've got Torx bits, multicolored sockets. There's everything here.
Speaker A
Everything that we could possibly need, and it is very exciting. But all we've got left to do now is get these away, then get the cars in. So, that's what Toby and I spent some time doing next.
Speaker A
We found homes for absolutely every single one of the tools, thanks to all the storage we have. We built up this bearing press, which is something I have always wanted in my workshop. And we also had the world's biggest compressor
Speaker A
arrive as well. Once that was done, as I said, the only job left to do is to bring all the cars in. And that is everything done.
Speaker A
I can't believe I'm saying this because there was a point where I thought it would never be done, but we are now completely finished the unit. After months of work, it is now done. So, let's go inside and have a little look
Speaker A
around. So, here we are. If you'd shown me this when we got this place, I just wouldn't have believed that it could have been this good. This is honestly a dream come true. Oh, we've been we've been chatting about it,
Speaker A
haven't we, Toby, how just unreal it is that this place is like at this level.
Speaker A
And we only have you guys to thank for for all of this crazy stuff. If you didn't watch the videos, this simply wouldn't be possible. It literally wouldn't be possible. So, thank you everyone for watching. But let's have a
Speaker A
look around. So, we've got Boris parked in the uh the maze spot. Obviously, he's not going to stay there forever.
Speaker A
Just looking so good, isn't it? Everything from the lights to the floors. Obviously, I know a lot of you will be wanting an update on this. And I promise you, we are getting back to the one series very soon. This whole video and
Speaker A
this time we've spent off YouTube not posting is a complete one-off. We only get to do this once and I wanted to do it properly and I think we've done that.
Speaker A
And we've got the office as well with doors. I mean the amount of work we put into this place is you wouldn't believe.
Speaker A
Just look at this office. I never thought it could be this good. We have put in an absolute grass.
Speaker A
What a 16-hour day, isn't it? Yeah. Literally 16our days. Like literally in here all the time perfecting it. Oh man. I mean, this this chill out zone. We have to be careful not to spend too much time up here cuz
Speaker A
we do need to get working. But I mean, what an epic place to just have a break.
Speaker A
Oh man, it's I'm lost for words how this place has turned out. We've got the Nissan Micro Hanes manual on the coffee table. Arguably the most important book invented by mankind. But more importantly, we have our pull score. And
Speaker A
as you can see, I'm winning, which is very good. It's got to be AI. Sure. AI and we've turned this place into a store cupboard. So all of the ugly stuff that we don't want to show out in the
Speaker A
workshop is here, which is really useful. So that is a big success. This is a complete dream come true. So as I've said, thank you lot so much for staying with us, being patient for this video, and I promise we have a lot more
Speaker A
videos to come. It is full steam ahead now. We have no excuses. We're just going to absolutely smash out videos.
Speaker A
So, if you did go on to enjoy this video and this whole build and you're excited for the future, make sure to like, subscribe if you haven't already, and I'll catch you in the next one.
