Speaker A
Hello again, this is Preheat, welcome back to another World of Warcraft video.
00:03
Speaker A
Uh, so there has been a couple changes to Frost that have basically come in the form of hot fixes, not all of them have been reported, but uh, these have had a slight impact on the rotation.
00:15
Speaker A
Also, I just wanted to give an update to kind of give answers to some questions I saw in my previous video.
00:23
Speaker A
So this is just an update to the Frost guide and we're also going to include some tips and tricks that are going to help increase your damage even further.
00:30
Speaker A
But first, I want to show you my character because I just got my four piece, got done with my heroic raid and uh, this is what we ended up with.
00:36
Speaker A
And I want to clarify on the stats because in the previous video, a lot of people had a question about like critical strike mastery haste.
00:46
Speaker A
A lot of people saying that mastery is their highest stat in Sims and I just want to give you like additional context.
00:52
Speaker A
Um, that can definitely be the case, however, if you're not simming both potions, both flask and you're like right on the threshold, it can make a major difference.
00:59
Speaker A
So if you look at my critical strike here, you can see I have 740 and my mastery says 738.
01:05
Speaker A
And that two point difference is huge because this allows me to use my reckless potion.
01:12
Speaker A
Which is going to hit crit as opposed to hitting mastery.
01:18
Speaker A
And just to show you how big of a deal this is, right?
01:24
Speaker A
Um, this is older sim, so I have a little bit more damage now, but uh, okay, right here.
01:30
Speaker A
This is critical flask with the reckless potion.
01:34
Speaker A
This is with just those two points moved.
01:38
Speaker A
We have a damage increase of 1.3%.
01:41
Speaker A
Now, of course, I could just use the light potion, not have to worry about this.
01:45
Speaker A
It's within 0.1%, so who cares, right?
01:47
Speaker A
That's probably the easier answer, but I like to have it set up where I could use either one.
01:50
Speaker A
You got to sim all the different combinations because there might be one that uh, is better.
01:55
Speaker A
If it's in the sim default, it's just going to use like whatever that is, right?
02:00
Speaker A
So, um, that may not be what's best for you, depending on where your stats are.
02:03
Speaker A
Uh, so yeah, mastery, crit, haste, all three are good, mastery could probably be your best.
02:10
Speaker A
Uh, critical strike being slightly higher though, does give you access to reckless potion and might just be the difference.
02:16
Speaker A
Uh, I did go Panda as well, you'll probably notice that.
02:20
Speaker A
Uh, Panda was like a 1% damage increase for me, so I just went ahead and did it.
02:24
Speaker A
Uh, it seems like Pandas are just like really strong right now.
02:28
Speaker A
So if you're looking for like what the best race is and you care about that 1%, then obviously go Panda.
02:33
Speaker A
Next question was on the talents.
02:35
Speaker A
So people are saying like, oh, the talents are different.
02:40
Speaker A
Um, yeah, you're going to see some variations depending on the boss.
02:46
Speaker A
However, this talent set up that I'm at right now.
02:50
Speaker A
Actually, let's swap this one.
02:53
Speaker A
Um, this talent set up right here, uh, this is going to be useful on like every boss.
02:58
Speaker A
Like it's going to be generally good.
03:00
Speaker A
If you're looking for like very specific builds for like specific bosses, it might be worth it depending on the level of cleave to start moving towards single target, right?
03:07
Speaker A
So like the maximum cleave is this talent here, Splintering Ray.
03:11
Speaker A
This would be good on a fight like the Council boss, right?
03:15
Speaker A
Uh, three targets, as long as you're able to cleave those with Ray of Frost, this can perform well.
03:20
Speaker A
However, on most fights, you're probably going to want to go for Frigid Focus because you're not going to be able to cleave on your Ray of Frost too much.
03:26
Speaker A
Okay, and then this talent here, Splitting Ice, this is just like really, really strong.
03:30
Speaker A
If you're able to ever cleave your Frostbolt, but some mobs just don't let you free the uh, cleave to Frostbolt, right?
03:37
Speaker A
Like, for instance, Vexius, huge boss.
03:40
Speaker A
Doesn't really work with this too well.
03:43
Speaker A
Uh, so I just put this over here into Rimecaster.
03:46
Speaker A
Obviously, you could also go into Piercing Cold.
03:48
Speaker A
Yeah, if you care about this like enough where you're like min-maxing every percent, probably just sim your own character.
03:53
Speaker A
But yeah, Fractured Frost, I don't think I would ever talent out of this, it's just like way too strong.
04:00
Speaker A
Um, as long as there's like any other target within 40 yards throughout the fight, this gets you insane value.
04:07
Speaker A
Because any Finger of Frost you get, it's going to uh, basically give you like a ton of extra freeze damage.
04:12
Speaker A
Um, oh, and the pet.
04:14
Speaker A
So you can play the pet, the pet is fine.
04:17
Speaker A
But there are a lot of fights where the pet's going to be worse though.
04:20
Speaker A
Like anytime you're doing like more cleave damage, Lonely Winter is going to be ahead.
04:25
Speaker A
And you also have to deal with the pet, you have to remember to summon the pet.
04:29
Speaker A
But if you swap to this talent, make sure that you also swap to attuned familiar, okay?
04:35
Speaker A
I've seen a lot of people doing this wrong.
04:37
Speaker A
Uh, so you're either pet and pet or you are Lonely Winter and Shifting Sands.
04:43
Speaker A
And I actually made this mistake in the video.
04:47
Speaker A
I had it correct in the the string, but um, yeah, this is the correct talent here.
04:50
Speaker A
But anyways, uh, when it comes to like the Frost side and the Spellslinger side, this is basically the set up that you want to go with.
04:56
Speaker A
Just lock this in if you don't really care to min-max every last percentage.
05:01
Speaker A
Uh, moving on.
05:03
Speaker A
So there were some optimizations that were made by Gusto and uh, these are following a change that Blizzard made.
05:09
Speaker A
So in my previous video, I talked about how uh, Glacial Spike can like be queued into an Ice Lance and it doesn't eat the Fingers of Frost.
05:18
Speaker A
They have fixed that.
05:20
Speaker A
That was a bug.
05:21
Speaker A
So now if you do a Glacial Spike and Ice Lance, you'll notice that the Fingers of Frost appears instantly and disappears.
05:27
Speaker A
Essentially, what this means is that when you're pre-cast, you're like Glacial Spike as you start the pull, you can queue the Ice Lance and just get a little extra damage there, right?
05:33
Speaker A
But this also means that if you're going to be casting Glacial Spike, you need to have room for a Fingers of Frost.
05:39
Speaker A
So don't cast Glacial Spike if you have a Fingers of Frost capped, right?
05:43
Speaker A
If both Fingers of Frost are there, you can't hold another, obviously.
05:45
Speaker A
All right, so with that change, the opener has also slightly adjusted.
05:49
Speaker A
So what we're going to do now, and this is going to be like just the single target one.
05:55
Speaker A
So in AoE, just follow the same opener as my previous video, which is the uh, you know, like ripping the Frozen Orb right away into the Ray of Frost.
06:00
Speaker A
That's still fine, AoE.
06:01
Speaker A
But here, since it's more single target, uh, we're going to do a Glacial Spike into an Ice Lance.
06:06
Speaker A
During the Ice Lance GCD, we're going to use potion and trinket.
06:12
Speaker A
And then I already queued up the Ray of Frost, but technically I could use like another Ice Lance.
06:17
Speaker A
I'm just going to use my Ray of Frost here though.
06:19
Speaker A
Ray of Frost, right?
06:21
Speaker A
And then one Ice Lance to clear it out and now we're going to Frozen Orb.
06:27
Speaker A
Oh, uh, I do sequence my opener a little bit differently on this fight just because there's a knockback.
06:32
Speaker A
But normally it would just be uh, a Frozen Orb right away.
06:36
Speaker A
I throw out one extra Flurry just so that I have like one global of uh, wiggle room on this knockback.
06:40
Speaker A
You'll see why in just a little bit.
06:42
Speaker A
But anyways, after you do the Ray of Frost, you're just like working through all of your freeze and your freeze is going to go through really, really fast.
06:48
Speaker A
If you notice there, I got knocked back like right as I was about to run out of the freeze.
06:53
Speaker A
That's why I did the extra Flurry.
06:56
Speaker A
So this is like a boss specific thing.
06:58
Speaker A
But anyways, um, I'm going to hit this Glacial Spike right away.
07:02
Speaker A
And then I'm going to go for my Ray of Frost here.
07:09
Speaker A
And so you saw that I did it like right, pretty much like right after I did my Glacial Spike.
07:15
Speaker A
Um, yeah, the idea is like you're just trying to like waste the the least amount of procs possible.
07:19
Speaker A
There's going to be like little things I do with sequencing here just for movement.
07:23
Speaker A
That's going to be a little bit different than like what I recommend for the rotation, but for the most part.
07:27
Speaker A
Um, the new thing is just you're doing this slightly different opener, right?
07:30
Speaker A
Let's just recap it.
07:32
Speaker A
Um, Glacial Spike and Ice Lance, potion trinket.
07:37
Speaker A
And then during this, you're going to Ray of Frost right afterwards.
07:45
Speaker A
And then you're going to make room for the Fingers of Frost with one Ice Lance.
07:50
Speaker A
And then you're going to normally use a Frozen Orb afterwards.
07:52
Speaker A
I throw on that extra Flurry again because the fight, uh, I know I'm going to get knocked back.
07:56
Speaker A
I just want to have a little bit more padding here.
07:58
Speaker A
But anyways, Frozen Orb into Flurry into Ice Lance.
08:05
Speaker A
And work through your freeze.
08:08
Speaker A
I'm basically just going to wait for this Glacial Spike.
08:12
Speaker A
And I'm out of freeze here with the Glacial Spike.
08:15
Speaker A
I use the Fingers of Frost there.
08:17
Speaker A
And then I'm going to Ray of Frost again.
08:24
Speaker A
Boom.
08:26
Speaker A
All right, and that puts us through here.
08:30
Speaker A
I do one extra Frostbolt there just to kind of sequence my uh, rotation so I can make this movement during the global cooldown.
08:36
Speaker A
Right, just little things that I do to try and maximize the movement so I don't have to use Shimmer.
08:42
Speaker A
Kind of fishing for a proc there too.
08:43
Speaker A
You'll see me do that.
08:44
Speaker A
Like whenever it's like right about for a circle that I hit, um, I'm going to do like extra Frostbolt sometimes just to give myself more wiggle room on the movement.
08:53
Speaker A
Okay, and then you can also hold your Ray of Frost for like certain things.
08:55
Speaker A
Like certain mechanics, right?
08:57
Speaker A
Because you have charges, so you're not like wasting Ray of Frost by holding it just a little bit.
09:00
Speaker A
So if you know the AoE is like happening soon.
09:04
Speaker A
For instance, right here, right?
09:05
Speaker A
The ads come out.
09:07
Speaker A
Um, you can hold your Ray just a little bit and then hopefully you can have like the increased Splinter Gen and Fingers of Frost and all that good stuff for when the ads come out.
09:14
Speaker A
This is actually a little bit too early, I would say.
09:16
Speaker A
Uh, but uh, yeah, you'll see as the fight moves on, I kind of delay the Ray of Frost just a little bit.
09:20
Speaker A
I try to get it lined up with the ads essentially.
09:24
Speaker A
In this case, since the ads aren't like super grouped and we actually don't want to kill them until they reach the walls.
09:30
Speaker A
I'm not going to do any sort of like uh, like mouse over Ice Lance stuff.
09:35
Speaker A
But you'll see that later in the video.
09:38
Speaker A
And as you can see, I don't even like target the ads, I just let my Ice Lances do their thing, right?
09:43
Speaker A
They're just going to like seek out the ads.
09:46
Speaker A
Um, I could probably do like a mouse over on this right side and that'd be good.
09:50
Speaker A
But I just turn my character instead.
09:53
Speaker A
Doesn't really change much.
09:54
Speaker A
Oh, and then so the trinket's back up and the Ray of Frost is back up.
09:57
Speaker A
But I need to get to this Glacial Spike first, so you know this.
10:00
Speaker A
This is what I was talking about before with Ice Skulls, right?
10:03
Speaker A
So here I cleared my Fingers of Frost.
10:06
Speaker A
Cleared my freeze.
10:09
Speaker A
And then trinket and Ray of Frost.
10:16
Speaker A
That was the only cast I canceled the entire fight just then.
10:21
Speaker A
Uh, anyways.
10:22
Speaker A
So we're going to just let this play out, but I'm just going to talk about other stuff as it goes.
10:26
Speaker A
Um, so yeah, here again, I have the ads up and as you can see, I'm like kind of like holding the Ray of Frost just a little bit here.
10:32
Speaker A
And now I'm going to go for it.
10:35
Speaker A
That way I get the increased Splinter Gen, it's 10 seconds and I get two Fingers of Frost.
10:40
Speaker A
You can see it popping the ads there.
10:42
Speaker A
See that Ice Lance that just hit that ad?
10:44
Speaker A
That was 32K over there.
10:46
Speaker A
Right?
10:47
Speaker A
That's what we're kind of doing this for.
10:48
Speaker A
I would like to use the trinket before that, but I think it just came up.
10:53
Speaker A
Uh, yeah.
10:55
Speaker A
Okay, yeah, so any Fingers of Frost you're like, Fingers of Frost are like really what you're looking for.
11:01
Speaker A
All right, so next tip, whenever you have ads that are spawning.
11:06
Speaker A
Um, it's really useful to have a macro that does a mouse over Fingers of Frost.
11:13
Speaker A
So you notice here, I'm going to put my mouse on top of this Void Orb, right?
11:19
Speaker A
Kind of a central one.
11:21
Speaker A
So they all kind of like jump together.
11:23
Speaker A
And from the Glacial Spike, I'm going to queue an Ice Lance, but it's not my target Ice Lance, it's going to be a focus Ice Lance right here.
11:31
Speaker A
So it's going to go off on my ad.
11:33
Speaker A
Boom, you see that, right?
11:35
Speaker A
Little pop.
11:37
Speaker A
I'm going to do it again.
11:39
Speaker A
Going for a Ray of Frost just to get some Fingers of Frost here.
11:42
Speaker A
And then I'm targeting the ad with my mouse over.
11:45
Speaker A
And I'm hitting the ads with my Ice Lances there.
11:49
Speaker A
All right.
11:50
Speaker A
So the idea with this is that if your target has high freeze, right?
11:56
Speaker A
The Ice Lance is always going to hit the target even if you put the Ice Lance somewhere else.
12:00
Speaker A
So like I can do an Ice Lance on these guys while I hit this guy as my main target.
12:06
Speaker A
And that's totally chill.
12:12
Speaker A
All right, so like every time I Ice Lance, see how it's going to the left there?
12:17
Speaker A
It's hitting those targets instead, right?
12:20
Speaker A
And it's totally fine if I use the uh, like the mouse over Ice Lance.
12:24
Speaker A
Even though I'm like looking at this guy, right?
12:27
Speaker A
These guys go, these Ice Lances are going on the target on the left.
12:31
Speaker A
Anytime you have Fingers of Frost, you can just send the Ice Lances elsewhere.
12:35
Speaker A
And if you only have one target with freeze, you can actually just full send the mouse over Ice Lance on like whatever you want, right?
12:40
Speaker A
So like right here, I can target this guy.
12:43
Speaker A
I can Ice Lance.
12:45
Speaker A
Notice how the Ice Lance still hits my main target.
12:49
Speaker A
So it's not like I'm padding, it's not like I'm like losing potential damage here because I'm like hitting something that doesn't have freeze.
12:55
Speaker A
Like that Ice Lance, as long as there's only one, it's always going to hit that other target.
12:59
Speaker A
So just to show it again, right?
13:01
Speaker A
Like I'm targeting the Dungeonier one, as you can see.
13:06
Speaker A
But I'm sending my Ice Lances on the other target.
13:11
Speaker A
Even the ones that don't have Fingers of Frost, you can send as long as you just have the one target.
13:18
Speaker A
Right, and it's still hitting my main target over here.
13:20
Speaker A
Doesn't matter where I send the Ice Lance.
13:23
Speaker A
It's always going to go on the target with the freeze.
13:26
Speaker A
So, yeah, the macro will be in the description.
13:30
Speaker A
Uh, but essentially it is just a mouse over Ice Lance macro.
13:34
Speaker A
Another macro that's useful that I'm going to include is a stop macro channeling Ray of Frost.
13:40
Speaker A
Because that way you can't accidentally use two Ray of Frost in a row.
13:43
Speaker A
Kind of annoying when that happens.
13:46
Speaker A
So you can mash this macro and uh, it's not going to use the second one because you're currently channeling.
13:50
Speaker A
All right, so let's look at another boss.
13:52
Speaker A
So this is like a three target cleave fight, another tip for you is going to be in cleave, just kind of like try to shuffle between your different targets.
13:59
Speaker A
Uh, so because of how freeze works, right, like you're cleaving random enemies, you're applying freeze to random enemies, if you just like cycle constantly through the targets, it's going to help you overflow less on your shatter stacks throughout the fight.
14:09
Speaker A
So like anytime you're about to do really like any targeted spell, if you just like tab to a new target.
14:17
Speaker A
As long as they're all available, as long as they're all going to, you know, be able to be hit the whole time.
14:22
Speaker A
Um, you can just gain like a little extra damage.
14:24
Speaker A
So how the sim does this is it just like constantly shuffles through different targets.
14:28
Speaker A
Obviously, don't have to do that because you can just be smart about it by looking at the freeze stacks.
14:33
Speaker A
But as you can see, it's a pretty considerable damage increase and this is just like a two target sim.
14:38
Speaker A
Um, but just to show like what it's actually doing, uh, I'm not going to read off the API.
14:43
Speaker A
I just want to like demonstrate this by showing you like one search.
14:46
Speaker A
Keyword here.
14:48
Speaker A
We're going to look for the keyword of it swapping targets.
14:53
Speaker A
Boom.
14:54
Speaker A
So you can see Flurry, Glacial Spike, Ice Lance, Ray of Frost, Flurry, Frostbolt.
15:00
Speaker A
These are all just constantly shuffling through whatever target has the lowest freezing stacks.
15:06
Speaker A
So, yeah, if if you have, you know, a cleave boss, just like try to always target the one with the least freezing.
15:12
Speaker A
Just cycle through targets constantly, um, that's going to be a damage increase for you as a Frost Mage.
15:17
Speaker A
All right, so yeah, that is your Frost update for now.
15:20
Speaker A
Uh, so let me know in the comments if you have any other questions.
15:23
Speaker A
And unless something else changes, this is probably going to be just like how things go for uh, the rest of this raid.
15:31
Speaker A
Until the next raid releases.
15:33
Speaker A
Um, I want to just kind of give you like one last update.
15:37
Speaker A
I think Frost is like really strong after doing the raid as Frost through and through and seeing like how it has all this potential with additional targets and spread cleave.
15:47
Speaker A
Um, honestly, I think it's just like a Frost tier.
15:50
Speaker A
I'm kind of Frost pilled at this point.
15:52
Speaker A
Yeah, and honestly, I don't mind it, like Frost has been really fun.
15:55
Speaker A
I've been enjoying it.
15:56
Speaker A
So anyways, um, that's going to be it for today.
16:00
Speaker A
So thank you all for watching and hopefully we see you in the next one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended stat priority for Frost Mage in patch 12.0?

Critical strike should be slightly higher than mastery to enable the use of reckless potion, which can increase damage by about 1.3%. Mastery, crit, and haste are all good stats, but crit being highest offers better potion synergy.

What talents are best for Frost Mage single target and cleave fights?

For single target, Frigid Focus is generally the best choice, while Splintering Ray is better for cleave fights with multiple targets. Splitting Ice is strong if you can cleave Frostbolt, but it depends on the boss mechanics.

How has Blizzard fixed the interaction between Glacial Spike and Ice Lance?

Blizzard fixed a bug where Glacial Spike queued into Ice Lance did not consume Fingers of Frost properly. Now, casting Glacial Spike followed by Ice Lance causes the Fingers of Frost proc to appear and disappear instantly, allowing better proc management.
