How to Live a Holy Life | Leviticus 19 Bible Class

Let's pull up my notes here.

Everybody go to Leviticus 19, we're going to start with a couple verses here.

We're going to break it down again, exgetically, right, exgesis, which means word for word, line for line, verse by verse, essentially.

The way that the Bible is supposed to be taught, right, God doesn't just put certain things in the Bible for no reason, everything he does is very calculative, you know, and very meticulous in everything.

So, let's kind of read here, all right.

And if you're typing, you're not reading, so let's go to Leviticus 19, verse 1 to 2.

Leviticus 19, verse 1 to 2, And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying.

Verse two, Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

You guys catch that, right?

So, when we read this scripture here, when we understand the Bible in its original language.

We need to know a couple things here.

Holy is a very important word to learn because when you say holy, holy three times.

It means it's complete holiness.

But what is holiness actually mean?

In English, it doesn't describe it as well as the original lexicon, the original Hebrew.

Kadosh, right, which means holy, is not just holy, right?

It's not just sanctified.

What it actually means is set apart, consecrated, distinct and purposeful for a divinity framework, right?

Meaning a divine purpose.

So you're set apart, not just from the world, you're set apart, not just from, you know, your family members.

You're set apart, not just in your workplace, but for divinity.

Let that sink in for a second.

God says I am holy, therefore you be holy.

Let me ask you guys something.

Do you guys think that you can be holy without God?

Let's think about that for a second.

Right?

Let me see the.

We got the answers here.

Do you guys think that you can manufacture holiness, you who are born unholy?

Of course not, right?

For example, Korea has no oil.

Do you think that they can somehow drill, even if they drill to the center of the earth, do you think that they'd be able to pull out any oil out of it?

No, because there's no oil in it.

Are you guys following me here?

Why am I saying this?

Human beings, when they read the Bible, they read it prescriptively, meaning take two every day and do this.

But actually what God is describing here descriptively is, you can't be holy.

That's why I have to provide it.

Are you guys following me here?

You can't do it, I need to do it.

Human beings read the Bible, however, oh, I now need to be more holier.

He doesn't say try to be holy, he says be holy, meaning do it.

Human beings have to recognize this and and it's a little bit of a Bible hack here.

That when you read things, you cannot read it as if it's you who's doing it.

That's why people face spiritual burnout, that's why people face this condemnation more than conviction.

Where they feel like, ah, I can't do anything.

Do you guys understand?

The difference here is God is saying, I'm going to do something.

I am the Lord.

Do you guys think that the Israelites don't know that he's God?

Of course the Israelites know that God is God.

Would you guys agree?

He knows.

Right, so why is he saying for I am the Lord?

What is he trying to say?

I am the one who has to provide, I am the master.

And if I'm the master, I have to do it.

Are you guys following me here?

But many people when they read the Bible, how do they read it?

No, I need to do something.

I need to be Christ-like.

I need to keep the commandments.

Even though Jesus says, don't think I come to abolish the law, I come to fulfill.

Who does the commandments?

Jesus.

But we think, yeah, yeah, we have to be just like you.

Without his holiness, without his Holy Spirit, without his blood, even if we're obedient.

Even if we try to keep the commandments and God knows our hearts, without the shedding of blood.

Can we get to heaven?

Absolutely not.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

But human beings have a thought process of, I need to do something, and that's why they're, as we say in prison, breaking their back.

Do you guys understand?

They're living this happy, sad, sin, repent, spiritual stagnancy lifestyle.

Why?

Because they're under the deception that, oh, now I need to step into the role of the master.

Step into the role of the savior and try to save myself now.

Save myself out of the world, save myself out of depression, save myself out of loneliness.

Save me something.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

And then when you do that, you break your back.

Because you're an imperfect person trying to produce perfection, you will always fail.

And the more you fail, that's when little Satan, the sly fox comes in.

Usually late at night, you'll be laying in your bed and one thought will enter you.

Ah, what's wrong with me?

Why am I like this?

Just simple one thought.

It then spirals into four, five, six, 10 different thoughts.

Why did I do this, oh, you start to have random flashbacks of your past.

Right, because he's cunning.

He wears your skin if you will, mimics your voice, makes it seem like it's you who's speaking, but it's actually him who's pouring into you.

And because we're so in tune with that voice and we don't understand that the Bible is more of a description than it is a prescription, a prescription.

Then we start to follow that voice and in the end, you'll actually manifest even into your own flesh.

The feelings and the work of Satan.

And what I mean by that is the emptiness that you feel.

The pressure in your chest.

The tears on your face.

And then ultimately you have this vicious cycle of, why am I here?

How come everybody in the world or who I see, whether it's my mom, my uncle, my family members, why is it that they're doing so much better than me?

What is the sauce?

What is it that they're doing that they're so obedient and yet I can't stick to a prayer life?

I can't journal correctly.

I can't read the Bible correctly.

What is, why are they getting unlocks, why is God edifying them?

Is it because I'm so disobedient?

Is it because I'm so bad?

And this is that vicious cycle that Satan has tried to entrap the world in.

He never tells you to do bad.

He says you who are bad, born evil and imperfect, try to be perfect.

So that when you fail, he can drag you.

Do you understand?

Notice how we never say, why Satan?

Notice whenever we mess up, it's always, why God?

God, why did you allow this?

God, why, God, why, God, why?

That is the slithering Satan and what he's really good at is hiding behind that.

And going, amen.

Why God?

God controls everything.

Why would he allow that?

And we agree with that voice.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

It's very dangerous in this way.

Just from that one verse, God is trying to explain to us here.

Right, and he and Peter in First Peter reiterates this.

Be holy, for I am holy.

People think I need to be holy.

Right, guys?

Holiness, however, is not self-improvement.

It is identity transformation.

Do you guys got that?

It's not my behavior changes, no, no, no, my identity has fully changed.

God has chose us and consecrated us, separated us.

Set us apart essentially, Kadosh, as it says in Hebrew.

And you have to recognize that holiness is who you are before it's what you do.

If you tie your actions to holiness, then you will continuously live this roller coaster.

Because you'll feel great when you feel holy.

But when you feel unholy, what happens?

Crash and burn.

Happy, sad, happy, sad, or what I call sin, repent, sin, repent.

Up and down, up and down.

Until you're fully empty.

Understand what I'm saying?

Right, guys?

So Jesus made you holy.

That's what God is trying to set up here.

Right?

And we have to understand that.

Okay?

You have to recognize, guys, that you're already made holy through the blood.

How?

Sanctification is holiness.

Right, well, let's keep a bookmark here and we'll Bible jump a little bit.

Let's go to Hebrews 10:10 and let's look at it in the present tense.

What it's actually explaining here.

I want to show you guys why your brain or your thoughts, if you will.

Is the biggest enemy.

Okay?

I'll show you guys right now.

There's the gospel.

People say the gospel started in Matthew.

The gospel started in Genesis, by the way.

And it bleeds all the way through.

All right.

To the Bible.

Let's highlight this.

This is a very, very pivotal verse for a lot of Christians.

Right, who've never discovered this.

It says, by the which will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Hebrews 10:10.

So, let's break this down, right?

Let's exegite the scripture.

By the which will, so we see a will pop up here.

Whose will is it when you read Hebrews in context, contextually?

It is Jesus and God's will.

For I come to do thy will, oh God, he says, right?

So God's will.

Is what, us being sanctified.

Now, let me ask you guys a question.

Zoom, you guys can answer it as well.

Sanctified.

What tense is this?

Past, present, future.

Past tense.

So when someone says sanctified or completed.

Does it mean like, let's say you have children.

Hey, son, did you complete your homework?

Yes, mom, I completed it.

What does that mean?

They already did it.

Understand?

So sanctified means already holy.

Are you guys following me?

Why though, let's continue to exegite the scripture here.

Let's not add to the word, let's break the word down.

Through the offering, so why are you sanctified?

Because you act holy?

There's no behavior here.

Are you sanctified because of your good works?

There's no good works here.

It says through the offering.

Which offering?

Of the body, body, physical body, of Jesus Christ, one time for all.

That's powerful when you read it.

Jesus, when he died on the cross.

Was it only one time?

Yes.

And when he died one time.

Who did he die for?

For all of us.

Not only that, he consecrated.

And he murdered our sin essentially on the cross.

Right?

Which sins though?

Past, present, and future.

Meaning all of our sins.

There's no debate here.

From the church fathers to Orthodox to everybody understands one thing, Jesus died for our sins and all of our sins.

We understand this.

So if Jesus died for your past, present, and future sins, right?

That means all sin has been washed.

The debt is paid in full.

That is why he says, right, Telestai, right?

Which means it is finished.

Right?

He doesn't say, it's a debt.

Pay me back.

He doesn't say, it's a deposit.

Are you guys following me here?

He is saying, it is finished.

I finished it on the cross.

The issue here, however, is where is our belief system?

Do we trust God?

Or do we confirm our own holiness, our own Kadosh?

Our own sanctification amongst our eyes and what we see.

That's the deception of Satan.

What does God call us to do?

Walk by what?

Sight?

Absolutely not.

Walk by faith.

Right?

Understand, Pistis, as they say in Coney Greek.

Walk by faith.

But human beings, even Christians, I'm sorry to say.

Love to walk by sight.

Well, I don't feel like I'm holy.

I don't see that I'm holy, so therefore I'm not holy.

That is blasphemous in that God cannot say, you are sanctified and holy.

And I made you holy.

If it's not true.

That would make him a liar.

See, God can do many things.

But there's one thing God cannot do.

He cannot lie.

Are you guys following me here?

He cannot lie.

He cannot sit here and say, you are perfected forever.

You are Kadosh, set apart, holy because of the son.

When you are not.

That would make him a liar.

So he set the whole boundary.

And he provided the requirements, he took on the responsibility and laid it onto Jesus Christ.

Who took the sin of the world and died on the cross and rose again for our justification.

It's very simple, elementary here.

But human beings make it complicated because of their thought process.

No, I am not holy because I don't feel holy.

So if that's the case, who then assumes the position of the judge?

We do.

We are not the judge.

It doesn't matter if you think you're holy.

I'll give you an example, when I did my crime of assault with deadly weapon.

And I went to a judge, would it matter if I said, hey judge, I'm a pretty good person in my opinion.

I feel like and I think in my perspective, although I did this, I didn't hit anybody.

So you should give me a slap on the wrist and let me leave.

Do you think my word or my judgment carries any weight in the courtroom?

Of course not.

The judge said, because you have done this, Mr. Chang, you know, appellant, penal code violation.

Whatever, whatever, you are to serve 14 years concurrent.

I'll give you two years of good time.

And you're to serve the rest.

Right, at a California Department of Corrections.

Right, he gave the judgment.

Even if I begged, even if I said, no, I don't agree with that.

It doesn't matter.

The judgment came down already and I had to serve my time, which I did.

Right?

Likewise, God is the judge.

He has given you the judgment statement.

For by one offering, Jesus Christ, he has perfected forever them that are sanctified.

For by his will, he has given us sanctification.

Once for all, he says.

Now it's up to us to believe.

Right?

God has given us all plane tickets to board the flight.

757 or 777 to heaven.

However, it is your choice to choose to board the plane.

Are you guys following me here?

He has made it open for everybody.

The issue is, because of human beings' thoughts and their logical rationalizations, conceptualizations.

Right, they start to think.

Well, it doesn't make sense to me.

Without recognizing it, there's an undertone of rejection there, well, if it doesn't make sense to me, who I am God.

Then I'm going to reject even the very God that makes sense.

And that is a Pharisaical mindset.

Do you guys understand?

The Pharisees did the same thing.

You are but 33 years old, how can you say you knew Abraham?

Logically that did not make sense to them.

But did Jesus know Abraham?

Of course.

He saw him.

Understand what I'm saying?

In Genesis, right?

So they could not understand it because when logic begins, faith ends.

Are you guys following me here?

But when faith begins, logic ends.

You guys got that?

So this one verse, I know it's a lot of exegesis here.

It explains the depth of God's heart just from these two verses.

Understand what I'm saying, guys?

Right?

Okay, let's go back to Leviticus.

Chapter 19.

So we've established a couple things here, that holiness and sanctification is done once for all.

But it's assuming that identity, which is our responsibility.

You guys understand?

That's that's essentially what we're talking about here.

God already claims that you are already holy.

And remember, he cannot make false claims.

He is a true living God and a man of his word.

So live freely in that.

No, I am not being sanctified.

God says I am sanctified.

And it's something about when you assume that position that, wow, God, the holy one.

Has called me to be holy.

It's a powerful thing.

You actually don't feel tired, but you feel liberated.

You feel happy and peaceful.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

Holiness is not religious behavior, guys.

It is living in the true identity that God has called you through, which is Christ.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

Jesus is the holy one.

And he gave you his holiness.

That's what I'm trying to say.

You are Kadosh, set apart now.

Not later.

You don't earn his love, he gave you his love freely.

You know why?

Because you already have it.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

Right, guys?

So don't strive to be accepted.

Believe that you're already accepted.

You need to start living in acceptance.

Rather than trying to earn his acceptance.

You need to live in validation, being validated already.

Rather than striving for validation.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

Amen.

Hallelujah.

Okay, let's keep reading here.

We're going to do two more verses and then we'll we'll we'll hop off.

And we'll exegite everything else, okay?

You guys can join.

All right, so Leviticus 19, if you're there, verse 3 to 4, I will read.

You shall fear every man his mother and his father and keep my Sabbaths, I am the Lord your God.

Verse 4, Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods.

I am the Lord your God.

Notice what God is doing here.

He keeps telling people, I am the Lord your God.

Why does he say treat your mothers and fathers with respect?

Don't make idols and molten gods.

Why, guys?

Because he understands what's going to happen with human beings.

You know, when he was up in Mount Sinai, Har Sinai, says in Hebrew.

He was teaching Moses, right, for 40 days and 40 nights.

Just the 10 Commandments?

If you read into scripture, lexically, and if you read it contextually.

He was showing Moses to create what, guys?

The Tabernacle.

Do you guys understand?

That's why it took so long.

Now, if God writes with his fingers, which he does, the 10 Commandments would take him 10 minutes.

Max, probably, probably a second if he really does it.

Why was he up there for 40 days and 40 nights?

Think about it.

He was telling them, you guys will do everything, right, all of the commandments.

And they answered God, yes, we will do them all.

But what's so funny is when he's up there.

40 days and 40 nights, Aaron creates the golden calf.

He sins.

So God, he's very omniscient, he's very smart.

He understands that I'm going to give them these commandments.

They think that they're good and they think they can keep it.

No one can show them.

These commandments are going to reveal sin, but not heal sin.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

Commandments reveal sin, guys.

It doesn't heal sin.

Are you guys following me here?

Because every human being thinks to some extent in their standard and according to their standard that they're good people.

Every human being thinks that.

They don't think they're 100% evil.

Do you understand, even though the Bible says we are 100% born sinners, evil.

Without good.

We don't think like that.

Because we don't agree with God.

Right, we think we have good thoughts, loving thoughts, caring thoughts, compassionate thoughts, empathetic thoughts.

Of course.

Practically speaking.

However, spiritually, we've been crooked, corrupted because of Satan.

So, he created these commandments and then he was showing him the Tabernacle.

What happens at the Tabernacle?

Sin offering.

What does that tell us about our father's mindset and his heart?

He knew, he knew that they're going to break these commandments.

That's why he needed a place to, right, offer up these commandments.

And these sin sacrifices for breaking the commandments.

God is very meticulous and in the same way he's moving this way.

I am the Lord your God represents, I'm going to handle it for you.

You're, yes, you're going to disrespect your mothers.

You're going to disrespect your fathers.

Anybody here not never disrespect their parents?

So awfully quiet in here all of a sudden.

Oh man, crickets, huh?

Wow.

You guys are very, very.

No one amen in that, huh?

Why?

Because we've all done it.

It's a natural thing.

It's actually biblical.

That the children will go against the parents.

And the parents will also despise the children.

It goes back and forth.

Right?

This is biblical.

So God understood.

He's not trying to teach you guys some, you know.

Surface level, superficial, treat your parents well.

Understand what I'm saying?

Right?

Every man fear his mother and father.

Yare, right, which in Hebrew.

Uh, means an honor, a respect.

Not actually fear.

Understand what I'm saying?

Not terror.

Okay, because fear is not from God.

Right, so this is why you got to read lexically too.

So, what is God actually saying here?

When you honor your parents, right?

There's a balance between relational honor and spiritual honor.

So the way that Satan tricks people.

And I'll teach this is really good for parents here.

Those who are parents here.

Do you know how Satan cons your children?

Very simple.

He makes the children first disrespect the first leaders at the forefront, which is the parents.

Disrespect you.

He puts thoughts in them.

They're lame.

They're uncultured.

They're biased.

They're narrow-minded.

Just these little things.

And you'll notice, kids who don't listen to their parents, it's a trickle-down effect.

They'll then not listen to their teachers, so they won't do good in school because they start to look down on their teachers.

And then they won't listen to law enforcement.

And ultimately, you know who they don't listen to?

God.

See, Satan, he's very meticulous also in the way that he works.

He doesn't just make you not listen to God.

He starts at a very young age and he grooms people.

Yeah, don't listen to your parents, they're stupid, they don't know anything.

See, they did that.

All they do is hit you.

All they do is chastise you.

All they do is rebuke you.

They make you wash dishes because they're lazy.

Right?

He plants these thoughts inside of kids.

Understand what I'm saying?

And then little by little, he show, he plants the seed of distrust, disrespect, dishonor.

You know, dis like, you know, not being loyal.

All these things.

And little by little, he just pulls the children away.

But when you honor your parents, guys.

It reflects the respect you have for the one who gave us life, which is God.

If you can honor your worldly parents, right, who don't deserve love.

Let's say.

Because they're flawed, they've did maybe some compounded trauma and things like that.

Sure, then you can love God more, who deserves actual love.

Do you do you guys understand what I'm saying?

And notice how he says keep my Sabbaths, right?

This is not about keeping the law.

Because you guys know who the Sabbath is, right?

If you've learned from me.

Matthew 11:28 is very clear, those of you who are heavy laden and burdened.

Come unto me and I shall give you what?

Rest.

What is the Sabbath, Shabbat?

What does it mean?

It means to rest.

Well, when you're a dirty evil sinner and you stand in front of Jesus.

And he washes all of your sins and pays your debt.

You are then now able to rest.

People argue about which day it is.

It is a Saturday, by the way.

Yes.

However.

They're missing the forest for the trees.

Do you guys understand what I'm saying?

You rest when you become sanctified through Jesus.

And you don't have to work anymore because your identity has shifted.

You are reborn.

You're now in agreement and reconciled with God.

And now you can rest, you don't have to follow your thoughts.

You don't have to follow your feelings.

You can follow God now, you can rest in God now.

Are you guys following me here?

Colossians 2:16-17, if you need the scriptures, the same.

Let no man judge you in meat and drink or even of the Sabbath day.

So don't let them judge you because of a day.

He says, for I am the Lord of the Sabbath.

Who is speaking here?

Yeshua Messiah.

He's saying, I am the Lord.

I am the creator of the Sabbath.

That's why there's biblical scripture that says, Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

Jesus was made.

So we can rest.

Not we try to obtain our rest through Jesus.

No.

It's salvation, guys, anything salvific and God's gospel centric.

Is never achieved.

It's always received.

Understand what I'm saying?

Right?

You don't strive to rest.

Right?

You just accept the rest.

Right?

So through these scriptures, God is teaching us.

That it's not just about honoring your parents.

It's talking about.

Resting in worship.

Resting in all things.

You were created to walk in three things.

To walk in honor, to walk in rest, and to walk in truth.

This is what the scripture is speaking about.

Just in these four verses.

You can Google and chat GPT that.

I'm just kidding.

You probably can't.

Okay?

Because I'm sure you guys have read this and it's it's not as deep as it is.

So when you exegite the scripture, one thing you guys have to understand is God's heart in everything.

You can see God's heart in these words.

Right?

He wants to make you guys rest, walk in truth, and be holy.

And he's giving you the actual blueprint here.

But we have to piece it together, cross-reference scripture.

Because everybody, including Jesus, quotes scripture, as it is written.

It is written, right?

So our job is to connect scriptures.

The way that it explains it in the Bible is mate scriptures.

So just like a male and a female meet together, mate and have a baby.

A one scripture can never explain itself.

There's always scriptures that are backing up these scriptures to then produce a baby.

That is what you call exegesis.

If people ask one and they try to preach one thing or a sermon on one line.

It's actually not biblical.

Paul from all the people, you know, he wrote a 14 epistles from Peter to everyone.

They all quoted scripture, whether it's Old Testament or even other scriptures in the New Testament.

It is written, for God has said, these are all quoting scripture.

This is what a Bible class looks like.

Bible studies are more isogesis.

Well, what this means to me is this.

Well, what did that mean to you?

This stuff is kind of subjective and very a little bit dangerous, I would say.

Only because you may not actually be interpreting it correctly.

Would you guys agree?

So it's important to know what the original lexicon is speaking about.

Not add your thoughts or your feelings into it, but shepherd and steward the word exactly how it's supposed to be.

Okay, guys?

Is the application part.

Okay, so what does this mean to me?

I'm not understanding.

Yeah, that's great and all, but how do I apply this to my life?

That's what we do here.

Application is important.

It's spent, it took me 10 years to learn this type of stuff.

To read the Bible front to back 25 times to be able to pull the extract out of it.

Right, God tells us in Second Timothy chapter 2:15, study to show yourself approved.

Rightfully dividing the truth.

We must divide the truth rightfully.

Without our feelings, without our interpretations, obviously through the Holy Spirit.

But through the word itself, right?
