Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen wassalatu wassalamu ala Rasulillah wa ala alihi wasahbihi ajmain. All praise and thanks belongs to Allah Subhanallah wa Ta'ala, and may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon his servant and father messenger Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
00:34
Speaker A
As for all followers, my dear respected brothers and sisters in Islam, Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
00:40
Speaker A
Inshallah Ta'ala today we begin with Surah Al-Ghashiyah.
00:46
Speaker A
And to begin with this, we're going to continue our tradition and that is to connect the previous Surah with this Surah.
01:00
Speaker A
So in doing this, we say that in the previous Surah, which is Surah Al-A'la, Allah Azza wa Jall spoke about two groups.
01:18
Speaker A
One group that is headed towards the paradise, and if you can promise to do these three ways and three pathways to success, then Allah Azza wa Jall promises such people the paradise, that was the first group.
02:00
Speaker A
And the second group that was mentioned are people that are headed towards the hellfire, headed towards the wrong direction, Allah Azza wa Jall says, rather you give preference to the worldly life, and you prefer the worldly life over the hereafter.
02:39
Speaker A
So this sort of, it's a, it's, it's concentrating the fact that these, this group, this such group is headed towards the wrong direction, and that is the hellfire.
03:28
Speaker A
These are the people that are been addressed in the very beginning of this Surah.
04:02
Speaker A
So this Surah begins by addressing the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and we know this because of the attached pronoun.
04:44
Speaker A
Did the news of Al-Ghashiyah arrive or come to you? This here is the attached pronoun, and that refers to second person, in other words, the address is to the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
05:20
Speaker A
Did the news of Al-Ghashiyah arrive or come to you? Did the news of that come to you, meaning oh Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
05:57
Speaker A
And the benefit of knowing this is as follows, you see, in the previous Surah, it ended by Allah Subhanallah wa Ta'ala talking to the disbelievers directly in second person.
06:40
Speaker A
You, rather you give preference to worldly life, that's how it concluded, second person.
07:10
Speaker A
But now in Surah Al-Ghashiyah, there is another second person, and that is Allah Subhanallah wa Ta'ala speaking to his Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, saying to him, did the news of the overwhelming, the, the covering event, that's Al-Ghashiyah, we'll come to it.
08:00
Speaker A
Did the news of that come to you, meaning oh Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
08:25
Speaker A
So it is as though Allah Subhanallah wa Ta'ala has become angry from the Kuffar, from the disbelievers, now he has turned away from them, and now he's speaking to his Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and what he's talking to him is about these people here.
09:17
Speaker A
Now, let's just note some things about the format of this speech.
09:46
Speaker A
Did the news of Al-Ghashiyah? Now we find this style in other places in the Quran.
10:05
Speaker A
For example, it already came with us in Surah Al-Buruj, did the news of the troops, you know, we found, did the news of Musa, did the news of Dhaif Ibrahim Al-Mukarramin, and so on.
10:43
Speaker A
This is, it's common and it's a style that is always in the Quran.
11:08
Speaker A
And, the word, certainly it has two meanings, the scholars argue.
11:47
Speaker A
One meaning is that it could mean, in sort of the, the style of a question, did the news of Al-Ghashiyah come to you, did the news?
12:28
Speaker A
So in other words, we can understand as being a question posed to the Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
13:10
Speaker A
The other meaning of is, in other words, it doesn't mean a question, but would mean, the news of Al-Ghashiyah has in fact, indeed, it has received, it has come to you.
13:40
Speaker A
So now we're going to focus on as being a question and seeing exactly, you know, what kind of benefit can we get from this.
14:23
Speaker A
Now, the word comes from the word, which means to come and arrive.
15:07
Speaker A
And in the Arabic language, there is another word that means to come and arrive, and that is, you probably know the word, means to come and also means to come.
15:50
Speaker A
So if they both mean the same, why didn't Allah Subhanallah wa Ta'ala say, instead of, what's the difference if they both the same?
16:29
Speaker A
Well, there is a slight difference between the word and.
17:30
Speaker A
The word, when it's used in the Quran, then it is only used for something that's enormous and heavy, something grand, something huge that arrives.
18:27
Speaker A
For example, Allah Azza wa Jall says, when the command of Allah comes, it's something huge that will come, so he used the word.
19:08
Speaker A
We read already, when the drowning calamity, which is another name for the Day of Judgment, but in that Surah he's speaking about that event actually happening.
20:05
Speaker A
But in this ayah, he's not speaking about the Day of Judgment as it's happening, he's speaking about the news of it.
20:48
Speaker A
And the news that is delivered on Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is easier than the event itself happening.
21:19
Speaker A
So when Allah speaks about the event itself, he'll use, when the drowning calamity, which is another name for the Day of Judgment.
21:49
Speaker A
Once it reaches that point, once it's boiling, now it comes out, and when it comes out, it will come directly into their face, straight to their mouth.
22:19
Speaker A
Very boiling hot water, this is what they will have to drink.
22:49
Speaker A
And you know, when you drink something hot, what happens is as it goes in, the temperature drops.
23:20
Speaker A
So it can be level with your body and then it goes in, it drops, it doesn't remain boiling and boiling, whatever degree you drink it.
23:50
Speaker A
As a matter of fact, you feel in tea, 100 degrees of water here, as time goes by, it starts cooling down.
24:20
Speaker A
And when you start drinking, it's already cooling down.
24:50
Speaker A
But Allah says that when they drink it, it doesn't cool down.
25:20
Speaker A
He says, it boils, and where is it boiling? In the stomach, that's where it boils.
25:50
Speaker A
So it starts boiling in the stomach, and then it comes out of their bodies like froth.
26:20
Speaker A
Very boiling hot water, this is what they will have to drink.
26:50
Speaker A
And Subhanallah, you read this is Surah Al-Ghashiyah, and Al-Ghashiyah it perfectly, perfect sense comes into this Surah.
27:20
Speaker A
They will be covered with the fire, and then they will be covered now with this boiling water.
27:50
Speaker A
Now we spoke about the drink, Allah speaks about the food.
28:20
Speaker A
We'll conclude inshallah with these two ayat.
28:50
Speaker A
So now that the drink is taken care of, and that's what it is, Allah addresses the type of food they'll have.
29:20
Speaker A
He says, no food for them, no food for them whatsoever.
29:50
Speaker A
And the word is to negate something, but you use this in the present, you negate now.
30:20
Speaker A
If you want to negate something now, you say, and it's not for the future.
30:50
Speaker A
In other words, Allah is showing his anger to these people, it's like they're being told all day.
31:20
Speaker A
Imagine now there is no food, right now, imagine this now.
31:50
Speaker A
Because it came straight after, whereas in normal Arabic it's delayed to the end.
32:20
Speaker A
But Allah said, and what that creates is especially, especially for them.
32:50
Speaker A
And what does that depict? If especially for them there is no food.
33:20
Speaker A
In other words, we're saying for others there will be food.
33:50
Speaker A
And what type of food is Allah speaking about? He says, except from.
34:20
Speaker A
And is this, now, it means like, you know, the raw seaweed.
34:50
Speaker A
This seaweed that washes up on the shore, even animals don't eat.
35:20
Speaker A
Sometimes human, if it's processed and so on, that's.
35:50
Speaker A
But the meaning of in the Arab time, in the Arab terrains, in the desert.
36:20
Speaker A
is actually, it's a thorny tree, it's there, it's, I'll tell you something about it.
36:50
Speaker A
It's a tree that is poisonous, it's thorny, it's itchy, it's nasty, it's spiky.
37:20
Speaker A
Even animals, they try to avoid eating from next to it, so it can't poke them and then all of a sudden they'll start bleeding.
37:50
Speaker A
They try to avoid it.
38:20
Speaker A
The only animal that eats is the camel.
38:50
Speaker A
And this is part of the amazing miraculous creation of the camel.
39:20
Speaker A
It's very important to note the camel, because towards the towards the end of the Surah.
39:50
Speaker A
We'll read, will tie up why does Allah Azza wa Jall mention about the camels.
40:20
Speaker A
And now here he's speaking about the food of the camels.
40:50
Speaker A
And so he says, except from.
41:20
Speaker A
It's very important this word, Allah doesn't say, he says from.
41:50
Speaker A
And what this depicts is that they are looking for it.
42:20
Speaker A
They're in the hellfire, and they have to look at where this tree is, this is what implies.
42:50
Speaker A
They have to search for it, and you know, this adds more to the horror.
43:50
Speaker A
And not only you have to find it, you need to pick up from this tree and start eating from this tree.
44:20
Speaker A
This is, and Subhanallah, look what happened.
44:50
Speaker A
The disbelievers, they heard this ayah, so of course, you got to imagine as all Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam reciting these ayat.
45:20
Speaker A
And the Kafir, he heard this, and so some of them, they didn't take the message serious.
45:50
Speaker A
Of course, we know that, and they made fun of this.
46:20
Speaker A
And what did they say? They said, that's not so bad.
46:50
Speaker A
Our camels survive on, and our camels are healthy and become fat from.
47:20
Speaker A
It's not so bad, we'll try, it's all right.
47:50
Speaker A
Now Allah responds to them in the next ayah, this is the final ayah.
48:20
Speaker A
He says, they're thinking that okay, is all right.
48:50
Speaker A
If our camels survive on it, we'll survive on it as well.
49:20
Speaker A
So Allah says, wait, hold on a second.
49:50
Speaker A
He adds, he says, it doesn't add to your fat.
50:20
Speaker A
It's non-nutritious, there's no nutrients in it, you know.
50:50
Speaker A
Nowadays we eat food that's not nutritious, no nutrition in the food.
51:20
Speaker A
And so the Kafir is thinking, all right, if Allah is saying, big deal.
51:50
Speaker A
We eat it here, they eat it there, then Allah adds one more thing, means what adds the horror.
52:20
Speaker A
He says, and it won't make them free of hunger.
52:50
Speaker A
In other words, they'll keep eating and eating and eating and not feel full.
53:20
Speaker A
And it doesn't fill him up, it doesn't make him fat, and at the same time, it doesn't free him from his hunger.
53:50
Speaker A
So what is he going to do? He's going to keep eating for Subhanallah, we ask Allah.
54:20
Speaker A
Not to make us from these people.
54:50
Speaker A
And Subhanallah, you know that this Surah, it's a bit harsh.
55:20
Speaker A
In the previous Surah, there was soft advice, there was soft warning.
55:50
Speaker A
You know, you know this message came in the previous prophets of yours, in previous scriptures, scrolls.
56:20
Speaker A
Go have a look at it, it was soft.
56:50
Speaker A
But now this, this advice here comes a bit more strong.
57:20
Speaker A
Because if the student doesn't respond, if he doesn't learn, what's the next thing you do?
57:50
Speaker A
You threaten him, you start shouting now, and so this is the theme of this Surah.
58:20
Speaker A
It's coming very strong, inshallah Ta'ala, next week.
58:50
Speaker A
We'll describe the other faces.
59:20
Speaker A
Allah Azza wa Jall says, inshallah Ta'ala, this discussion will come up next week.
59:50
Speaker A
We ask Allah Subhanallah wa Ta'ala to make us students of the Quran, people who benefit from the reminders of the Quran.
60:20
Speaker A
And Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam wa baraka ala Nabina Muhammad wa ala alihi wasahbihi ajmain.
