I understand. And dear friends, good day. We are beginning our event, which is dedicated to a topic that is very interesting, useful, and relevant for Ukraine today. So, the topic of our project and our meeting today is the project "Ukrainians We Are Proud Of." A digital library of stories about prominent Ukrainians. This project was implemented by the Association of Innovative and Digital Education of Ukraine with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, and with the assistance of both the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and, directly, the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Administration. So, let me introduce the participants. Thank you. Good day. I am glad to be here today at this press conference dedicated to such an important topic: the presentation of the project "Ukrainians We Are Proud Of." A digital video library of stories about prominent Ukrainians. In April of this year, the Ministry of Youth and Sports supported the project implemented by the NGO "Association of Innovative and Digital Education." It is aimed specifically at this topic. And this non-governmental organization has carried out the project with financial support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which we will be presenting together today. For the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, supporting civil society institutions is one of our top priorities. Joint, effective, and focused work with public associations yields excellent results and wonderful products that we can promote within Ukraine and, furthermore, abroad as well. Especially when it comes to creating a digital product, as such digital content is extremely important today, and because it is the most accessible for consumers, for young people, for students, and it can be shared with a large circle of our stakeholders and, consequently, consumers of such a product. Regarding the project itself, we understand that throughout the existence of Ukrainian statehood, Russians have constantly falsified and rewritten the history of Ukrainian state-building. Many of our scholars, doctors, scientists, and cultural figures were appropriated first by the Russian Empire, then by the Soviet Union, and now by the Russian Federation. The names of some Ukrainian figures were erased from history because they consistently defended the sovereignty and cultural identity of the Ukrainian people, which contradicts the narratives of Soviet-Russian propaganda. At the same time, the idea of a great "Russian world" was quite often fueled and asserted through deception and half-truths at the expense of the achievements, ideas, and contributions of the Ukrainian intelligentsia. That is why, especially now during the war for Ukraine's independence, it is extremely important to create videos, informational materials, and content in general that will debunk Soviet-Russian myths, counter historical disinformation, and help popularize the history of Ukraine, as well as the work of Ukrainian figures in science, culture, and education. All these issues are extremely important because they are matters of our country's national security. And we must bring the names of our figures back from oblivion and talk more about their achievements, creative work, and activities within Ukrainian society. In the digital library we are presenting today, we feature figures who endured the trials of the Soviet regime, made extremely important discoveries for global science and Ukrainian state-building, as well as those who, through their works and paintings, celebrate the values, freedom, identity, and unity of the Ukrainian people. We understand that the project we are presenting today is a very important initiative, as the consumers of this digital content will be young people, children aged 9 to 17. And this project will convey the historical truth about Ukrainian history, about our figures who made a significant contribution to global science and, accordingly, a contribution to the creation of our Ukrainian state. It is also worth adding that before we selected these 20 figures, a vote was held in the Diia app, and 134,000 Ukrainians participated to choose these 20 figures whose activities and historical truth had not been fully revealed. And that is why these projects and these videos take on even greater significance. The Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to support such important initiatives from civil society institutions, especially those aimed at digital products and the popularization of Ukrainian history. Thank you.

I am very grateful to you. And so, for my part, I also want to express gratitude on behalf of the public and our organization, in particular, to thank the ministry and Ms. Natalia personally. Indeed, both the ministry and your department and office are doing a great deal. Your focus is very important, and it is very good that it falls under the Ministry of Youth, because when we talk about national identity, it is essential to convey this to young people first and foremost, both those in Ukraine and those abroad, to keep them connected to Ukraine. Therefore, I think these projects and others you are working on are a great cause, and we are truly sincerely grateful to you on behalf of the public. With your permission, I will now pass the floor to our next speaker, a colleague who is also, well, a patriot with a capital letter, and a person who doesn't just work, he lives—believe me, I know what I'm talking about—for this issue of national identity, preserving and supporting famous Ukrainians so that more people learn about them. Mr. Oleh Paska is with us, director of the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Regional Administration. Mr. Oleh, pleased to welcome you. The floor is yours, please.

Good day. This is a truly incredible project. We have been, uh, working on it quite seriously. I want to thank today, uh, the rector of the Ivan Franko University, Academician Roman Hladyshevskyi, the dean of the Faculty of Philology, and the entire faculty team for helping us work on these texts and improve them. And, of course, the most important thing, which has been a dream for many years, perhaps even six or seven years, is for these portraits of the most famous Ukrainians to appear in every single Ukrainian school. We had an agreement with the previous leadership of the Ministry of Education, with the Minister of Education and Deputy Minister Kozmichova, that this project would be implemented starting January 1st in all schools across Ukraine. In the Lviv region, we will, of course, implement it as quickly as possible, and we also hope that the current Ministry of Education and the current minister, Mr. Andriy, will support this project, and that starting next year, these portraits of the most famous Ukrainians, along with QR codes linking to sho

10:22

Speaker A

about—for this issue of national identity, preserving and supporting famous Ukrainians so that more people learn about them. Mr. Oleh Paska is with us, director of the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Regional Administration. Mr. Oleh, pleased to welcome you. The floor is

10:40

Speaker A

yours, please. Good day. This is a truly incredible project. We have been, uh, working on it quite seriously. I want to thank today, uh, the rector of the Ivan Franko University, Academician Roman Hladyshevskyi, the dean of the Faculty

10:58

Speaker A

of Philology, and the entire faculty team for helping us work on these texts and improve them. And, of course, the most important thing, which has been a dream for many years, perhaps even six or seven years, is for these portraits

11:15

Speaker A

of the most famous Ukrainians to appear in every single Ukrainian school. We had an agreement with the previous leadership of the Ministry of Education , with the Minister of Education and Deputy Minister Kozmichova, that this project would be implemented starting

11:29

Speaker A

January 1st in all schools across Ukraine. In the Lviv region, we will, of course, implement it as quickly as possible, and we also hope that the current Ministry of Education and the current minister, Mr. Andriy, will support this project, and that starting

11:47

Speaker A

next year, these portraits of the most famous Ukrainians, along with QR codes linking to short videos about these prominent figures, will appear in every Ukrainian school. And this project fully aligns with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's decree on the strategy for

12:06

Speaker A

affirming national identity and the Law of Ukraine on national identity. Therefore, uh, I think this is another very important step in the actual formation of national identity. Because when a student sees not only a portrait in a very modern style but can also see

12:28

Speaker A

and listen to a video about this person via a QR code, they understand how strong, how powerful the Ukrainian nation and people are, what strong representatives we have had, and that means we have them now and will continue to have them in the future.

12:48

Speaker A

And this is an example. All these people are an example for every student to learn, develop, reach new heights, and influence the development of not only domestic but also global science and technology. Therefore, uh, this project fosters pride in one’s

13:07

Speaker A

country and love for Ukraine. Essentially, it is very practical, and in my conviction, it is one of the elements of that vast system of national-patriotic education that is being formed, despite the fact that there are no corresponding norms

13:28

Speaker A

regarding upbringing in educational legislation. Fortunately, they are in the president's decree. I hope that legislators will also join in and finally understand—perhaps this project will become a catalyst for our lawmakers to turn their attention and realize that education is not only

13:45

Speaker A

about skills and knowledge, but also about upbringing, pride in one's country, and love for one's country.

13:52

Speaker A

Therefore, I am very glad that this project is being implemented and that the Lviv Regional State Administration, in the person of its head Maksym Kozytskyi, supports it greatly. And we hope that in the near future, portraits of the most famous Ukrainians will be

14:07

Speaker A

in all our schools. Thank you, Mr. Oleh. I am sincerely grateful to you for such words and for the fact that you are acting—not just in word, but in deed—in this sphere, and not only in this one. I know this for a

14:20

Speaker A

fact. Therefore, I am sincerely grateful to you. So, dear colleagues, let us move directly to the presentation of our project. I will briefly tell you what has already been done, what is planned for the near future, and what will, I hope, be done

14:37

Speaker A

over many years, because I hope this project will not stop at the results it has already achieved. So, starting with this, I will note that the mission of this project is to help the young generation of Ukrainians to truly see

14:55

Speaker A

how people who became world-famous and who influenced the course of global events—in the world, in Ukraine, and in Europe—lived, who they were, that they were first and foremost people, how they grew up, why they achieved such results, and what really happened

15:17

Speaker A

to them during their lives and how they achieved these results, very often not because of, but in spite of everything.

15:28

Speaker A

We have already said that our main goal is to promote the self-assertion of Ukrainian national identity. You remember when, in our schools, in our childhood, there were posters, when we sat in class and saw Pascals, Newtons, Mendeleevs, and others, but there were

15:46

Speaker A

no Ukrainians among them. But we have a very powerful nation and very many people who were undeservedly unknown to the general public. And today, it is very important to ensure that the youth know about this, are proud of it, and

16:02

Speaker A

want to emulate them. Once again, I emphasize that our partners, first of all, are the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, for which we are again sincerely grateful, who helped us create this project, implement it together, guided us, helped us, and

16:15

Speaker A

advised us. This is the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Regional Administration, and our organization, the Association of Innovative Education, which is implementing all of this. Our target audience, as we have already noted, is

16:28

Speaker A

first and foremost the youth. We are focusing on school students specifically because it is very easy and centralized to reach them, so that they not only learn about these people but also understand that the school subjects they are studying can allow

16:45

Speaker A

them to achieve similar results in their later lives and perhaps even stand alongside the people we are introducing today. So, how did we make our choices? The selection process was very rigorous. First of all, as Mr.

17:01

Speaker A

Paska already mentioned, we engaged Ukrainian scientists who created comprehensive lists. The lists were broad, and not just generally; there were two categories: humanities, concerning figures in those fields, and natural sciences, including physics and mathematics. Once these lists were

17:23

Speaker A

created, there was a vote in Diia, as Ms. Natalia mentioned; 134,000 people voted in just one week. And we ended up with a very good result. Why did we choose this approach? Because all these figures are interesting, and it wasn't

17:39

Speaker A

possible for us to choose "more" or " less" on our own. And that would have been wrong. Even for the scientific community, it would have been wrong.

17:45

Speaker A

That is why it was proposed that the general public should vote. And the result of 134,000 people voting is proof that, surely, people find this interesting and useful, and they participated with pleasure. And so, the final 20 figures, 10 in each category,

18:02

Speaker A

are here today. I can briefly name them , and then in the videos, information about these figures can be directly narrated and seen by the people who will watch them. So, in the field of science and technology: Oleksandr

18:24

Speaker A

Bohomolets, Sofia Konevska-Morachevska, Stepan Rudnytskyi, Kateryna Yushchenko, Lubomyr Romankiw, Mykhailo Kravchuk, Ivan Horbachevskyi, Anatoliy Skorokhod, George Kistiakowsky, Mykola Pylchykov; and for society and culture, the humanitarian field: Olena Teliha, Petro Mohyla, Ihor Yukhnovskyi, Olena Stepaniv, Arkhip Kuindzhi, Milena Rudnytska, Sofia Rusova, Ahatanhel

18:50

Speaker A

Krymskyi, Heorhiy Narbut, Mykola Lukash . These people made it into the top twenty. I hope that the next stages of the project will continue to expand this list. I will also briefly mention that these videos were not created just

19:05

Speaker A

formally; they were made using the latest technologies, combining live-action, archival materials, and artificial intelligence, so that it would be not only informative but also engaging. These are not just clips, but mini-documentaries produced at the highest quality that modern technology

19:24

Speaker A

allows, and we certainly won't be ashamed of them. Furthermore, after this, these videos will move into an offline format. Right now, very serious , professional designers are working on creating posters. And I think they will be created and printed in the near

19:39

Speaker A

future. And as Mr. Paska said, this pilot project will be launched in the Lviv region this year, and then these posters will spread throughout Ukraine and the entire world, I believe, because we will also offer them to Ukrainian schools abroad. There are a

19:56

Speaker A

great many of them. And they also have a demand for this, so that all Ukrainians can learn about it by using a QR code to access these videos. As I already said, our results are already quite significant. And we will continue

20:12

Speaker A

to develop this content on the platform . We hope that tens of thousands, or maybe even hundreds of thousands of people, will watch these videos in the coming months. We will be working on this now. And one last thing I’ll say

20:24

Speaker A

is that the next stage of this project, as we see it, is the creation—and we will be working on this—of an entire ecosystem for discovering Ukraine and Ukrainian identity through famous figures. Because, as you know, over the last few decades, for example, a great

20:41

Speaker A

many streets in cities have been renamed in honor of famous Ukrainians —those of global significance, as well as those who achieved success at the national, regional, or even city level. But, unfortunately, local citizens know very little, even those

20:56

Speaker A

who live on these specific streets. And so that people can learn, we want to create an entire system where a person can enter the name of their street. And find information about the person after whom that street is named in that

21:09

Speaker A

specific place. I think it will be very interesting and useful to then watch videos about them and read their biography. To understand the street on which one lives. That is why I think such a project will be popular in the

21:22

Speaker A

future. And again, when people or deputies vote on renaming more streets in various cities, it will be very interesting and useful to choose specifically those people who will be on the lists we are preparing, so that these names are truly known, written

21:40

Speaker A

about, and kept in the public consciousness. That is the interesting project we have ended up with, I hope.

21:48

Speaker A

And it will continue. I am grateful to everyone for their attention. Moving forward, we are starting to work online with our YouTube channel Gocd.ua, where all these videos are located, and we are moving offline into schools. And so

22:02

Speaker A

, I think we will meet directly in educational institutions with those who are interested in this project and those to whom it will be available to the general public on YouTube. Uh, dear colleagues, thank you all for your

22:14

Speaker A

attention, and see you later. I hope that in a year we can meet again in this hall and say that we have not 20, but 40 or 140 figures or more. I hope this project will continue to develop.

22:28

Speaker A

Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Dmytro, for the invitation, thank you for the cooperation, and for our powerful project that was born from the results of the competition to identify projects for strengthening Ukrainian national and civic identity. And I hope that we

22:45

Speaker A

will truly scale the screening of these videos across the entire country, not just abroad, specifically in youth centers, educational institutions, and cultural institutions. And we will continue our cooperation further. Thank you.
