Learn how to optimize your Roblox game to succeed by mastering icons, titles, initial traffic, and mindset to beat the algorithm.

## Key Takeaways

- Focus on game packaging (icon and title) to capture player attention instantly.
- Drive initial traffic through social media, influencers, or ads to get algorithm traction.
- Improve player retention and monetization to boost your game's ranking.
- The algorithm rewards performance metrics, not just development effort.
- Mindset and persistence are critical; quitting guarantees failure.

## What the video covers

- Many Roblox developers blame the algorithm after their games fail, but the real issue is often poor packaging and marketing.
- The game icon is crucial; successful games use bold colors, clear focal points, and minimal text to attract clicks.
- Game titles with brackets and emojis signal freshness and updates, helping games stand out on the Roblox front page.
- The Roblox algorithm prioritizes game stats like retention, playtime, and spending, not the effort put into development.
- Initial traffic is essential and can be driven by TikTok, YouTube Shorts, influencer plays, or paid Roblox ads.
- Keeping players engaged and encouraging repeat visits is key to maintaining good stats and algorithm favor.
- The algorithm is not rigged; it rewards games that generate revenue and retain players effectively.
- Developers must overcome emotional challenges and maintain a strong mindset to succeed in the competitive Roblox market.
- Working smart by balancing game development with marketing and player retention strategies is vital.
- The video is part of a series aimed at helping developers stop blaming the algorithm and take control of their success.

There's something about the algorithm that Roblox developers learn too late, and they usually learn this after a big failure or they launch their biggest idea. When it fails, they just end up blaming the algorithm. Most devs learn it after they upload their best idea. They put work into it every single day, and their game flopped. After all that hardship, that's when they learn. I built a website that uses real Roblox data, so we can see what games are blowing up, and I'll be using it throughout the video. By the end, you will know the truth that separates the devs who make it versus the devs who quit, and I don't think you want to be a dev who quits. You will never ever blame the algorithm again. So, the first thing: you spent months on your game and gave zero thought to the packaging. The thing about Roblox is it's just like every other platform. Roblox will show your game to people for about a fraction of a second. They can either click or scroll past, and that right there puts all the power of your game's success into the hands of the player. That's the thing: a lot of devs will spend months coding, building, thinking that this is what's going to blow up their game, but they forget about one of the most important things to get your game to click. One of the most important things is the icon. It's so important, yet a lot of devs literally just scrap it together. They use AI, or even if they use AI, they don't even think twice about it, and they just upload it, right? So, if you want to see how to get a good icon, you have to see what the most popular games are doing. You can clearly see the Roblox page. You can see the front page, you can see what games are working, or you can check my website, and you can see which games right now are doing it right. As you can see, these games have very bold colors. You can see facial expressions, and they are very limited in words. A lot of these icons don't use words, and if they do, it adds to the icon, not distracts people from it. Another thing you have to keep in mind is that your icon has to have one clear focal point, so people know what to look at. For example, Steal an Egg: you clearly see that the focal point is the egg. The egg is as clear as day, and everything just pops. Everything is a color that's very easy to identify. Now, the next thing that you want to look at is the title. A lot of the most popular games, as you can see here, have brackets in the title. These brackets help people understand that the game is fresh, right? It will say update, or it will say season 1, or it will say something to make your game look like it's consistently being updated. A lot of the most popular games also put an emoji in their title just to break the mundane text. Having regular text is boring, but if you add an emoji to it, all of a sudden it adds a little pop of color and separates it from other games. If you want to see how your game will look, you could try the front page test, and you can clearly see here that if you put a game and you do it right, you absolutely destroy the competition. But if you put an icon and title here and it just gets swallowed by the page, that means you need to work on it. The next thing about your game is that the algorithm decides based on your stats and not the amount of effort you put into your game, right? Roblox will read your stats and look at retention, playtime, or how much players spend, and then based on this information, it will decide whether or not your game will blow up. If you have good stats, you'll get pushed to the front page, and if you have bad stats, well, you can kiss the money goodbye. So, what do you have to do? Roblox is not like YouTube. It won't just push your game out to random players. What you have to do is give it initial traffic. How can you do that? There are a few ways. You could do TikTok and YouTube Shorts about your game, or you can make a whole YouTube video showing off your game. After that, if you have a little bit of cash, another way of doing it is getting creators or YouTubers to play it. YouTubers are kind of expensive, but if you get TikTok creators to play it, that would be nice. The third way is Roblox ads that you spend money on. Paying for ads will give Roblox initial traffic to rank your game based on stats, people staying, people coming back. There are also a bunch of ways to get people to stay in your game and a bunch of ways to get people to come back as well that I will discuss in another video. But the thing is, developers don't think about this at first. You have to think about a way to keep your players and keep them addicted. Not addicted in a bad way, but unfortunately, that's how the algorithm is, and you can't really argue against that fact. Now, the last truth I want to talk about is saying that it's rigged or I got unlucky or whatever. The thing is, the algorithm isn't punishing you; it's just picking which game makes the most money and gets people to stay. You're going to feel like giving up. You're going to feel like, "Oh my God, Roblox is rigged, the algorithm is trash." Sometimes you have to play the game, whether you like it or not. But if you have a bad mindset, you're never going to make it. This is hard; this is not easy. Nothing in life that's worthwhile is easy. You're going to fail, but I'm here trying to teach you all the ways that I've learned from doing research—hours and hours of research—on how other games are blowing up so you can get your game to blow up. A lot of people quit, and that kills the dream. When you quit, you can finally say, "Oh, at least I tried." But the thing is, you didn't try hard enough. Making a game will make you feel like you're fighting something every day. Some days you want to, some days you don't want to make a game. Same as making a video. Right now, today, I don't even want to make this video. I don't even want to be sitting here, right? I've got things to do tomorrow. I'm tired; I want to watch Fullmetal Alchemist, but I'm here. So, the lesson I want to give you guys is to fight against your emotions. Fight against your nafs and do it anyway, even if you don't want to do it. Work hard, find ways, work smart. Don't just work hard by itself. Don't spend too much time on the game when there are other things that you have to focus on as well. By the time you guys get to the end of this video, you will learn a lot of things, and you will not only improve as a Roblox developer but improve as a human being as well and apply this to other parts of your life. One thing I want to say, and I want to close this video by saying, is that the algorithm didn't skip your game. It was the people who scrolled past without wondering what this game is about, and they didn't have that strong curiosity feeling. Do not blame the game, do not blame the algorithm, blame yourself because then you can put the power back in your hands. Guys, I just want to say episode one was a success of my series, Stop Blaming the Algorithm. Episode two is coming out; it's in development. These videos take a very long time to make, and especially, I've gotten really busy. If you guys enjoyed this video, check out Reblox in the description down below.
