I lost 100 lb in 5 months last year, and then this year I went down from 14% body fat to 8% body fat. Number one question I always get asked is how the heck did I do that? Second question I always get asked is how come I don't have very much loose skin? And the third question I get asked is making me feel a lot better because I've been so self-conscious about it.

00:12

Speaker A

Lately, a lot of people have been asking me what the heck is going on with my hair, like as in how did it grow back so thick or at least appear thick? I think I just wanted to come clean today.

00:22

Speaker A

Yeah, I actually wear a toupee. Yeah, I'm just joking. [laughter] Imagine if I just took my hair off. To be honest, I think that my hair was always thinning. I started using Rogaine when I was 19 because I started noticing that it was getting thin at 19, which kind of sucks. And to be honest, it's even worse because my dad, who I think is like 70, maybe 71, has a full freaking head of hair. And then my older brother, who's like almost 7 years older than me, has a full head of hair. And not only that, he shaves his head like to the skin. He shaves his head. That's like so, I've always been jealous of my brother. And he's also like 4 inches just taller than me. I started thinning really young and then it got really bad in my 30s. That's when I got really, really, really unhealthy and out of shape. Like I've always been a big boy.

00:35

Speaker A

I think I kind of just chalked it up to like, "Oh, Filipino, we're all big, we're all pudgy, we're all round." Pretty much post-college, I was putting on like 10, 15 lb every single year to the point where last year I was at like 270, 275. I stopped looking at the scale because I got so scared. My hair was at its absolute worst. When I started getting healthy and I started dieting, my hair started growing back, which was so weirdly cool. I did not know that was possible because I think the Rogaine really stopped my hair from receding any further and thinning any further, or at least slowed it down, but I don't necessarily know if it helped regrow hair. I want to talk about what I know for sure was working. I also want to talk about all the things that I tried throughout the years that I don't think did anything. Then also, I want to talk about things that I don't know necessarily how much they added, but there was definitely correlation to when my hair started looking better to when I was using it. So, definitely correlation. Don't know if there was necessarily causation, but I do want to be honest and open with what the heck I was doing. Number one, the things that I know for sure were helping was, like I said, I started taking Rogaine, which the active ingredient is called minoxidil. I don't know how to pronounce it. Minoxidil, something like that. And I was using that at 19. I think it really did slow down the thinning because the years that I was like, "Ah, screw it. I don't think it's making a difference," and I stopped, my partner would be like, "Uh, yeah, your hair is getting thinner," and I'm like, "Oh, crap," because you just don't think about it. So, Rogaine, minoxidil, like that definitely helped. And then the second thing that I know for sure helped, I started taking it I think like 5 years ago, was finasteride, which was a little bit scary at first because I think there's like 20% of men who have a bit of negative side effects in terms of like libido and, you know, erectile dysfunction. Thankfully, I was in the boat that did not have that happen. I mean, to be—oh man, this might be TMI—I've always been a very excited boy.

00:52

Speaker A

[laughter] It was okay if I lost the little bit of excitement. To me in my head, it was worth the trade-off. The finasteride, I was taking it through the Hims brand. [music] Not sponsored. I'm such a freaking newbie at content creation. I want to be sponsored by people, but no.

01:08

Speaker A

I buy their product. I use their product. Initially, I was using Rogaine's foam, and then I was taking Hims pills for finasteride. Now, I use their topical spray that contains both.

01:24

Speaker A

I know those two things for sure were working in terms of slowing down. And I think the finasteride actually started helping grow hair, like little baby ones. But again, I started taking that like 5 years ago, and I didn't necessarily see like this huge difference in my hair. The things that I know for sure didn't do crap for me, but I tried. I was trying argan oil. I was trying castor oil, different shampoos that had those oils, essential oils. I was trying a microdermabrasion roller, like one of those needle rollers, and I was rolling it all over my head. Crap ton of biotin. On the bottle itself, it says like for hair, skin, and nails. So, I was taking a lot of that. I don't think those things were doing anything for me. Like I never really noticed a difference. And all of these things I would try for months, at least like 2 months before I would be like, "Nah, I don't know about that." So, those are the things that I know for sure were not doing anything for me. And then the two things that I will say I don't know, but there's definitely a little bit of correlation.

01:36

Speaker A

I started taking this supplement from Do Not Age, and they don't pay me. I've never been paid by them to promote their product. They have given me products to test, and some of them I've made videos on because I absolutely love them, like Sure Sleep. Their magnesium powder, I love it. It helped me sleep a lot better. And sometimes I've gotten products from them where I was like, "Yeah, I don't feel anything different." But I've never been paid by them to talk about their product. If I use their product and I love it, then I talk about it, and then if you guys buy it, then I get a little kickback from the affiliates. This product that they made, this is their most recent thing. It's oh my gosh, so freaking cool because it contains 15 clinically proven clinical dosages as well. It contains 15 different anti-aging and longevity supplements all in one little sachet. So, you put this thing in a bottle of water, you shake it, you drink it, and you're good to go. And the thing is that it contains so many of the things that I already was taking, so it kind of simplified a lot of my supplement routine. If I look at the ingredient list, I was already taking glycine, I was already taking sirtuin 6, which I'll talk about in another video. The first product that I bought, like I bought like a year supply of it, was NMN. I was already taking betaine, calcium, vitamin D3, K2, and magnesium I was already taking. I started taking Nitroless, which is their nitric oxide product. So, I was taking like basically six or seven of their products already. Maybe not their specific products, but like a product of that. Now that I take this, I basically don't have to take those six other powders or pills because I just take it all right here, which is so cool. And then, of course, the other nine anti-aging and longevity supplements that are in this thing, I'm like I'm getting basically for free because all of those six that I was already taking, it cost me more to buy those six individually than to get this that has all six plus 15 others. I started taking this I think like 3 months ago or so. I also started using this infrared infrared mask. I started using this because I started watching videos on infrared technology and all that stuff, and at least for me, the science was showing that it was legit. It actually showed that people's skin was getting better and their hair was getting better. What I would do is I would basically wear this on my face [laughter] for 10 minutes every night. And this one also came with a neck and chest piece. [music] I would wear these for 10 minutes on my chest and on my face for 10 minutes. And then I would wear it for 10 minutes literally on my head. They make specific ones for your actual scalp, but I'm a cheapo. Like I've got—

270, 275. I stopped looking at the scale cuz I got so scared. My hair was at its absolute worst. When I started getting healthy and I started dieting, my hair started growing back, which was so weirdly cool. I did not know that was

08:02

Speaker A

ones for your actual like scalp, but I'm a cheapo. Like I've gotten so many compliments on my skin and on my hair in the 3 months that I've been using these things. I'm not wearing like makeup. I'm not using beauty filters or anything

08:16

Speaker A

like that. I'm just like Uh I mean, I got healthier. I I lift weights. I drink a lot of water.

08:23

Speaker A

I take 15 anti-aging and longevity supplements and I use red light therapy on my face and on my scalp. Correlation, I started doing these two things 3 months ago. If you watch my videos even from 3 months ago, my hair was starting

08:37

Speaker A

to grow back then. It still was pretty thin. And now I think it looks a lot thicker, which is cool because I have so much body dysmorphia that I think I look bald. It's been nice. A lot of people

08:49

Speaker A

have been like, "Yo, your your hair looks good." Like my parents' anniversary was this past Sunday and we went out to Cheesecake Factory. My mom was literally like "Trish, what's going on with your hair?

09:02

Speaker A

It looks so much thicker." And I'm like, "Oh man." Like if my mom says it cuz she is traditional Filipino mom. They are ruthless. They will be like, "You got fat. What's going on?" Or like, "You got too tan. What's going on?" She has never

09:16

Speaker A

been not honest with me. So when she was telling me my hair is looking better, I was like maybe it's looking better.

09:24

Speaker A

But also like I kind of want to talk about maybe like styling, too, cuz I do think that adds to the overall like volume and thickness. I have straight hair, so um [music] I started I watched a random YouTuber who recommended these

09:36

Speaker A

products, so that's why I'm using them. This Viking sea salt spray, that actually added some texture, like made it look a little wavy, and I think made it to look a little thicker, as well as this The Man Code Hair Styling Powder.

09:49

Speaker A

Sometimes I'll use one or the other or both. My particular hair seems to do a little bit cooler things when I use the styling powder versus the sea salt spray. I basically will put both of those or one of those into my hair. I'll

10:02

Speaker A

mush it around, and then once my hair is dry and I like what it looks like, I'll spray this Oh, jeez. This Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray, so that it basically stays in place. I don't know exactly what I'm doing with my hair

10:17

Speaker A

right now. Like I'm I'm kind of just like Robert Pattinson-ing it. I'm letting it grow out. I'm mushing it around, and then when I think it looks kind of cool, I spray it [laughter] in place. I wear a lot of mask, a lot of

10:28

Speaker A

hats, a lot of random things throughout the day, so it kind of just mushes into a different shape by the end of the day, and as long I think it looks kind of cool. I think those are also kind of

10:37

Speaker A

adding to the illusion that my hair is thicker, on top of the fact that I think my hair actually is thicker. At least anecdotally, it's possible for your hair to grow back in your late 30s, and yeah, I don't exactly know what's causing the

10:54

Speaker A

most benefits. That's basically the full story on my hair. No surgery. Although, I really really really want to go fly out to Turkey and like get a hair transplant, maybe like in a year or two, cuz I just I For me, it's not fully just

11:10

Speaker A

like I'm not comfortable with my own skin. Like I love fashion, to be honest.

11:15

Speaker A

I like expressing myself through my clothes and my hair, and I really kind of realized I don't have a lot of hair options in terms of style when there's not a lot up there. I think maybe in a

11:26

Speaker A

year or two, I might do like a hair transplant, and maybe I'll like vlog that series of and document that journey, cuz I think it might be cool. I mean, at least I've seen a lot of awesome stories. I also seen kind of a

11:37

Speaker A

lot of horror stories, which is kind of scary. For now, I think it's looking pretty decent and that is what I was doing with my hair. Otherwise, I'll catch you guys in the next one. Peace and love.
