**How To Use The Economic Calendar For Trading — Transcript & Summary | SozAI**
Source: https://sozai.app/transcript/economic-calendar-trading-guide/

A trader explains how to filter the Forex Factory economic calendar for US dollar news, sort events by impact, set trading rules around releases, and use them within a weekly profile.

## Key Takeaways

- Filtering the economic calendar by currency and impact helps focus on news that matters for a given asset.
- Predefined rules for each impact tier help avoid volatile periods and structure trade timing.
- Combining news timing with weekly profile analysis (manipulation then distribution) guides directional bias.
- Post-release price action around high-impact events such as NFP and FOMC is the trader's primary focus.

## What the video covers

- The economic calendar is used to identify news events that could cause market volatility.
- Filtering on forexfactory.com by currency (US dollar for NASDAQ/S&P futures) isolates relevant events.
- High-impact (red folder) news is sorted into high, medium, and low impact subcategories, each with its own trading rules.
- High-impact news: avoid the day prior and the release, then watch price action after.
- Medium-impact news: avoid the session prior and the release, then watch after; no need to avoid the day prior.
- Low-impact news carries no trading restrictions.
- The trader avoids Mondays as a personal rule and focuses trading on post-NFP and post-FOMC price action.
- Weekly example walkthrough: CPI, PPI, FOMC and NFP are analyzed for trade avoidance and entry windows.
- Price behavior around the week's high and low is used to identify manipulation and distribution, such as a midweek reversal.
- Weekly profile projection uses the low or high of the week, sometimes via a failure swing aligned to standard deviations.

Answers

## Questions about this video

How does the presenter filter the economic calendar?

On forexfactory.com, they open the calendar's filter, select the currency for the traded asset (US dollar for NASDAQ or S&P futures), and then focus only on high-impact red-folder events.

What rules apply to high-impact news events?

The presenter avoids trading the day before and during the release, then watches price action after the event. Medium-impact news only requires avoiding the session before and the release itself.

Why does the trader avoid Mondays?

The transcript states it is a personal rule, and the trader generally skips Mondays while focusing on post-news trades later in the week.

how's it going everyone? This video is going to be over the economic calendar. We'll talk about filtering it and then how to use it in terms of the weekly profile. Let's get into it.

00:24

Speaker A

that could possibly cause volatility in the market now each asset will have a different news event or schedule and we will go over how to filter and see that now the general rule I use for myself is that I avoid trading prior to the first

00:38

Speaker A

The economic calendar is used to identify news events that could possibly cause volatility in the market.

00:52

Speaker A

including the medium low impact news so what I'll do is go ahead and select the currency for the asset that I'm Trading since I am trading NASDAQ or S&P futures I will just select the US dollar and then I want to focus just on

01:08

Speaker A

Now, each asset will have a different news event or schedule, and we will go over how to filter and see that.

01:22

Speaker A

sort the high impact news into subcategories so you can see separating the red folder into high impact medium impact and then low impact by doing so I give myself rules for each news event and shout out to am trades for this you

01:38

Speaker A

The general rule I use for myself is that I avoid trading prior to the first high-impact news event of the week, as well as skipping Mondays.

01:51

Speaker A

low impact I have no restrictions and you can see they are listed here so taking a look at this example here you can see we have CPI of Bond auction PPI retail sales and other various news events if you look back on our last

02:06

Speaker A

So for filtering, what I do is go to forexfactory.com, then I go to the calendar and click on filter. You can see here everything is selected, including the medium and low-impact news. So what I'll do is go ahead and select the currency for the asset that I'm trading. Since I am trading NASDAQ or S&P futures, I will just select the US dollar. Then I want to focus just on the red folder, or high-impact news. By applying this filter, you can see how the news events or schedule for this week gets sorted into what I am actually focused on.

02:19

Speaker A

avoid prior to 8:30 on Tuesday now with PPI since that is under a medium impact I'm just going to avoid prior to 8:30 and I don't need to avoid the day prior and Friday I have no restrictions once

02:32

Speaker A

Now, how do I actually use the economic calendar? What I do is sort the high-impact news into subcategories. You can see, separating the red folder into high-impact, medium-impact, and low-impact, I give myself rules for each news event. Shout out to am trades for this. With high-impact news, I'm going to avoid the day prior, avoid the release, and then watch after. With medium-impact, I don't need to avoid the day prior, but I'm going to avoid the session prior, avoid the release, and then watch after. With low-impact, I have no restrictions. You can see they are listed here.

02:47

Speaker A

release here however I will also watch Tuesday and Wednesday but avoid Thursday because it is the day prior to the high impact news let's go take a look at a few examples so with my first example I'm going going to be taking a look at

03:01

Speaker A

Taking a look at this example, you can see we have CPI, bond auction, PPI, retail sales, and other various news events. If you look back at our last slide, CPI and PPI are the two we are focused on. CPI is high-impact news, so I'm going to avoid the day prior and the session prior. Since I'm already avoiding Monday, I will just avoid prior to 8:30 on Tuesday. PPI is under medium-impact, so I'm just going to avoid prior to 8:30, and I don't need to avoid the day prior. Friday I have no restrictions, once again, because this is not high- or medium-impact news.

03:15

Speaker A

and then non-farm which is high impact so looking at this I want to avoid Monday because of my personal Rule and then Tuesday I want to avoid because of fomc I'll watch fomc post relase and then Thursday I want to avoid because

03:30

Speaker A

The last thing we're going to touch on before getting into some examples is NFP protocol. Once again, thank you am trades. My interest lies mainly on Friday, post news release. However, I will also watch Tuesday and Wednesday, but avoid Thursday because it is the day prior to the high-impact news.

03:41

Speaker A

post NFP let's hop into the chart and take a look at this here we are in the chart and you can see we'll let Monday play out and once again we'll let Tuesday play out as well now with fomc

03:55

Speaker A

Let's go take a look at a few examples. For my first example, I'm going to be taking a look at NASDAQ, or NQ. Here is the economic calendar for the week. When I'm taking a look at this, what catches my eye? This is not high-impact news. Here we have FOMC, which is high-impact, and then non-farm, which is high-impact. Looking at this, I want to avoid Monday because of my personal rule. Then Tuesday I want to avoid because of FOMC. I'll watch FOMC post-release. Thursday I want to avoid because it's the day prior to non-farm. So then I'll look at Friday post-release. My trading days for this week that I can see at the beginning of the week are: I will be looking to trade post-FOMC and post-NFP.

04:08

Speaker A

say this low let's see what happens so here we go we do take this low now if we have accumulation we're in an uptrend and we take out a low I'm ideally seen as manipulation to trade higher the letting

04:23

Speaker A

Let's hop into the chart and take a look. Here we are in the chart, and we'll let Monday play out, and once again we'll let Tuesday play out as well. Now, with FOMC on Wednesday, I'd ideally like to see FOMC take out one side of this range we are trading in. Since we are right here, is it more likely that price reaches for this low or for this high? I would say this low. Let's see what happens. Here we go, we do take this low. Now, if we have accumulation, we're in an uptrend, and we take out a low, I'm ideally seeing that as manipulation to trade higher. I'm letting Thursday trade because my focus is mainly on post-NFP release. What do we see here? We get an aggressive move out and then back into the range, as well as an inverse of this volume in balance. Where do my eyes draw to? Ideally, I'd like to see price reach over this Tuesday high, as that is our current high of the week, and possibly reach for this buy-side liquidity resting here.

04:39

Speaker A

I'd like to see price reach over this Tuesday high as that is our current high of the week and possibly reach for this buy side liquidity resting here let's drop down to the 1H hour time frame to take another look at this so here we are

04:52

Speaker A

Let's drop down to the 1-hour time frame to take another look. Here we are on the 1-hour time frame, and what do we notice? Monday down, Tuesday down, Wednesday we form a low, and Thursday we get a move higher. So what is this? It's a midweek reversal. We have our change in the state of delivery right here. If we have a low on Wednesday or a reversal continuation on Thursday, I'd like to see a continuation on Friday as well.

05:05

Speaker A

the state of delivery right here if we have a low on Wednesday or a reversal continuation on Thursday I'd like to see a continuation on Friday as well now another thing I do within the weekly profile is Project out the low or high

05:19

Speaker A

Another thing I do within the weekly profile is project out the low or high of the week. Normally I would take it from the low to the high of the manipulation move. You can see that doesn't really make sense in terms of the weekly profile. We do have a negative one right here, but what I'll do is look to use a failure swing in this case, and you can see how that makes a lot more sense. You can see how our 4 and -4.5 line up right here. So ideally, with our fourth standard deviation right here, I'd be looking for this high as a target.

05:31

Speaker A

to use a failure swing in this case and you can see how that makes a lot more sense you can see how our 4 and -4.5 line up right here so ideally with our fourth standard deviation right here I'd

05:42

Speaker A

Now, for a continuation higher, or distribution higher, which way would I like to see news manipulate? Down, right? Because we'd have manipulation, then distribution. So as we move forward to NFP here, what do we notice? We get a move down, so manipulation down. I'd like to see distribution higher to this high right here, our fourth standard deviation. You can see we reach into that inverted volume and balance. Do we form an order block right here? Yes, we do. So now I'd like to see this level held, this low stay intact, and trade to this high. And there we go, we trade to this high, hit our fourth standard deviation, and we'll see if we trade to this buy-side liquidity. We do not, and we leave it for another day. You can see how using these standard deviation projections, added to the confluence, gives me reason to look to take profit here or right here.

05:57

Speaker A

NFP here what do we notice we get a move move down right so manipulation down I'd like to see what distribution higher to where this high right here in our fourth standard deviation you can see we reach into that inverted volume and balance do

06:14

Speaker A

So just to review: if we go back to our example here, the economic calendar, we could tell at the beginning of our week that our focus would lie post-FOMC or post-NFP. Ideally, I don't want to look at Monday or Tuesday. Tuesday because it's before FOMC, Monday because it's generally the accumulation for the weekly profile. And I don't want to look at Thursday either, because it's before NFP. Knowing that my focus is on post-NFP release, I can use the price action from the week to define a weekly profile and then trade off of that. Taking one more look at the example, you can see Monday we got a move higher, the Judas swing. We make a low on Wednesday, forming a midweek reversal, so Thursday continuation higher, Friday continuation higher, and we get the news release in the opposite direction of order flow. So we get accumulation, manipulation, distribution, and you can see we get the same thing on the daily: accumulation, manipulation, distribution.

06:27

Speaker A

deviation and we'll see if we trade to this by side liquidity we do not and we leave it for another day you can see how using these standard deviation projections added to the Confluence to be looking to take profit here or right

06:41

Speaker A

With our second example, go ahead and take a look at the economic calendar. On what days am I looking to trade? If you take a look, we don't have any high-impact or medium-impact news until Thursday, where we have the core PCE price index. So ideally I'm looking to trade either Thursday post-news release or the day following the news release. Let's hop into the charts. Taking a look at the daily chart here, you can see we swept out a low and then traded to this previous high, having a few days of expansion in here. Generally, large range candles lead to small range candles. Now pairing that with the economic calendar, what day am I focused on? Thursday or Friday. So letting that trade to here, what do we see? We see that price trades into the fair value gap here, and we fail to change the state of delivery or form an order block right here. So then Wednesday we trade lower, so now my eye

06:55

Speaker A

Tuesday because it's before fomc Monday because it's generally the accumulation for the weekly profile and then I don't want to look at Thursday either because it's before NFP knowing that my focus is on post NFP release I can use the price

07:10

Speaker A

action from the week to define a weekly profile and then trade off of that and taking one more look at the example you can see Monday we got a move higher or the Judas swing we make a low on

07:22

Speaker A

Wednesday forming a midweek reversal so Thursday continuation higher Friday continuation higher and we get the news release in the opposite direction of order flow so we get accumulation manipulation distribution and you can see we get the same thing on the daily

07:40

Speaker A

accumulation manipulation distribution so with our second example here go ahead and take a look at the economic calendar in what days am I looking to trade well if you take a look we don't have any high impact news or medium impact News

07:55

Speaker A

until Thursday where we have core pce price index so ideally I'm looking to trade either Thursday post news release or the day following the news release let's hop into the charts but taking a look at the daily chart here you can see we swept

08:11

Speaker A

out a low and then traded to this previous High having a few days of expansion in here so generally large range candles lead to small range Candles now pairing that with the economic calendar what day am I focused

08:24

Speaker A

on Thursday or Friday so letting that trade to here what do we see well we see that price trades into the fair value Gap here and we fail to change the state of delivery or form an order block right here right so then

08:38

Speaker A

Wednesday we trade lower so now my eyes are focused on the down Clos candle into the fair value Gap here now I personally like to trade after the reversal so I'm going to let Thursday trade and so here

08:49

Speaker A

we get a consolidation reversal profile we have a consolidation Thursday takes out the low and then we close over here now I'm anticipating Friday continuation once again I can drop down to the hourly time frame and what do I

09:05

Speaker A

notice down here on the hourly time frame well we have a series of down Clos candles sweeping this low before getting closed over so that is an order block or the change in the state of delivery for the weekly profile anticipating a

09:19

Speaker A

consolidation reversal or since this Thursday made a low Friday continuation I can project out this manipulation here and if you see we have a 2 to 2.5 that lines up with this high and then our 4 to 4.5 right there now if you see again

09:35

Speaker A

down close candles into an order block this is now a propulsion block and what do I know about propulsion blocks well ideally I wouldn't like to see price trade or close below the mean threshold here so half of the bodies ideally I

09:50

Speaker A

like to see us trade into the opening price here and then trade away so let's see what happens on Friday here we get the closure over we retest that order block now we get a continuation through this High We retrace to where back to

10:05

Speaker A

this propulsion block you can see how the upper half respects and then we trade to the max expansion for the weekly profile to pulling up the Open high low close of the weekly candle you can see we have consolidation through

10:19

Speaker A

Wednesday Thursday manipulates forming the low of the week and then I can use the change in the state of delivery as well as projections to anticipate where that Friday continuation goes to let's hop into our last example so with our

10:34

Speaker A

last example here you can see we're looking at AUD CAD so that means when filtering I'm looking at the Australian dollar and Canadian dollar so you can see with this week fairly straightforward what am I looking to do

10:47

Speaker A

avoid Monday and then watch Tuesday post CPI let's hop into the charts so here we are on AUD Cad and what do we notice we just ran out all these lows here and what do we have resting so that is

11:00

Speaker A

external liquidity do we see any internal liquidity we do right here and what else do we notice we notice we have previous days highs stacked up right here right so that will be low resistance liquidity on a lower time

11:13

Speaker A

frame and if we added another Confluence here using discount and premium we can look for price to trade back to equilibrium of the range here so with the context and then pairing it with the economic calendar what do we do we let

11:27

Speaker A

Monday trade now we have CP on Tuesday but down here on the hourly chart you can see that low resistance liquidity or those previous days highs lined up and then our daily fair value Gap here we have the series of down Clos candles

11:40

Speaker A

into an important level which was then closed over validating that as the change in the state of delivery or using that as a market structure shift now what do we have well we have a fair value Gap right here in this range let's

11:53

Speaker A

see let's wait for Tuesday currently on Monday so moving forward ahead what do we notice we have midnight here we make a move lower into London we have a series of down Clos candles here we close over them so now this is a change

12:08

Speaker A

in the state of delivery on The Daily profile so if I'm looking to take a trade could take a trade on the retest of that or just enter if I'm targeting the fair value Gap it doesn't really make sense to just enter for 1.19 R

12:21

Speaker A

let's see here now we form a fair value Gap so I can move my entry up a little it's right about to r or I can Target equilibrium of the range for a little over 2 R now we get tagged in and there

12:33

Speaker A

we go you can see we get a move higher to our drawn liquidity and we waited post CPI that is how you can frame it from the daily chart using the economic calendar and then all the way to the

12:44

Speaker A

lower time frames for an entry I hope you found this video helpful if you did please consider liking and subscribing and I hope you guys have a great rest of your day see you
